When setting up a tactic, you don't touch the wib-wob screens. As a result you don't get the highlighted halos around any of the players. Fiddling with arrows and player instructions only makes a non-wibwob tactic.

Sorry, but I don't see how that is an answer to my question.

"No wib/wob" simply means that you haven't edited them yourself.

I usually go by the 4-3-1-2 formation. I've noticed that the centre midfielder scores a lot of goals. At my first season in Man Utd, Carrick scored 14 goals in 31 matches and the next one I replaces him with Khedira who scored 13 times in 38 matches.

Yeah, central midfielder of a 3 does seem to score a lot. I reckon the optimal instructions are forward runs and no marking, then look for a player with good off the ball.

    attacking/short OR normal/Direct OR defensive/long
    pressing/hard tacking
no offside trap (hate it, the lack of full backs leaves this open to sudden attacks enough as it is)

man marking, two central defenders, two central midfielders
    wide players crossing
forward runs, run with ball to all attacking players

when my players were less talented this worked best with normal/direct (sometimes defensive/long) but as I signed better players and became more equal to the opposition this no longer worked and I changed to the default attacking/short

the AMC/FC position is depending on player, I often move it back to MC/AMC if the player is such a position, the best player here is an MC with high dribbling
    works ok.

No, but if I give you the individual instructions you have everything you need to know to set it up yourself:

    GK: default
DL/DR: no press, normal tackling, set pieces all back, fwd runs, cross ball, zonal)
DC: normal, no press, fwd attacking set pieces, back on defensive, zonal
DMC: set pieces all back, fwd runs, try through balls, zonal
MC: set pieces normal, fwd runs, long shots, zonal
ML: attacking set pieces normal, defensive set pieces forward, fwd runs, cross ball, zonal
AMR: as ML exept also run with ball
AMC: set pieces normal, fwd runs, run with ball, no marking
FC: set pieces attacking forward defensive back, fwd runs, no marking

    That's it

Changed the default 352 attacking into a 343 without touching anything else, that can work as a 'realistic' tactic, when you have the better players you win more than you do with lesser players

Giving this a little shot now.

Running through some different tactics so I have options during a game, or during different periods of the season. Will let you know how I get on

I posted this somewhere else, here would have made more sense, so copy and paste it is!

I have invented a new tactic, and it seems to be doing quite well! hooray!
I took fodfod2CF as a template and tried to see how close I could get not using wib-wob.
(I presume this has been done many times before, right?)
technically, you can use the "with ball" and "without ball" screens without "wib-wob" because the basic positions are where they are in the "without ball" screen and if you add arrows it's where they are in the "with ball" screens (unless the arrows go backwards, when it's the other way around)

obviously I couldn't the actual wib-wobness of wib-wob, which is to have the players in different positions in every box, so I focused on the opposition half, I am pleased with the result

I also changed all the player instructions to match, which was a fair change too, because there are a lot of them.

    so here it is,

obviously I'm not going to go through every box, so this is a balance of more than one, and although I am sure the first reaction from everybody will be ITS NOTHING LIKE IT. I think the closer you look, the more you see I didn't do too badly.
THe two MCs are out a bit but this is to balance some other boxes out a bit

    Zé,

That Benfica starting eleven was frighteningly poor! Suddenly all those repressed memories of Paulo Madeira and Ronaldo paving the way for Mario Jardel to score have came back to me... the horror, the horror...
