The "I Play/Manage Football For A Team" Thread

So who do you play for?
Are you a star player, bench warmer, or the token fat lad?
Tell us about your most recent game, and where that leaves you in the league!

    Looking forward to the tales..

Started off as a striker but then ended up LB when I was in a kids team
At 5 a side (which I don't play much now) I make cameo appearances in CM like Jan Molby. Fitness is gash
Have been known to make the odd 'clumsy' tackle if the other team are wankers or hammering us.
Was decent at set pieces and dead ball striking - terrible at heading and poor timing tackles (see above!)

Not played competitively for well over 10 years+ as had a bad accident and would fuck myself up if banged in same place again (which also put pay to egg chasing!)

Since moving to Sydney in January I now play for "Newington Gunners", we have the worst kit...

We have a squad on 16 players, this includes 12 Turks, 2 Italians, 1 Korean (South), and 1 Englishman; being me!

I currently play centre forward and sadly have been given the nickname "Giroud"...FML!! (Hopefully this is more to do with my hair than my playing ability).

We have played 6 games, I currently have 2 goals, and 9 assists.

The league table is as below:

Big game at the weekend as we take on Winston Hills at home (Wilson Park).

Not too bad in a CM01/02 stand point

What formation do you guys play then?

Still better than Torres i might add

    we play 4-4-1-1, switching to a 4-3-3.

Although we played bottom of the league Greystanes last weekend and stormed into a 5-0 lead after 20mins, and the manager was away so the formation switched to a 3-1-6 formation, i shit you not. I decided to play centre mid. We won 7-1.

You have to win the league with a goal difference like that

Haven't played myself for two full seasons now.

Think I noted down somewhere before that I was player/manager of Rainham Eagles Men's Team.

If you click on Manager's in the link, there is a familiar face managing the Under 8's kids team. Anyone know who he is?

When I left we finished fifth.
Since I went, the new manager has overseen back to back relegations!

I am hoping to get back into playing this coming season but we'll see how the old legs cope with a pre season first!

I play occasionally as a slightly overweight centre-half in a supporters' team, usually summer 6-a-side tournaments. Got a decent ability to read the game and good positional sense so I cut out a lot of through-balls or long punts but I'm shafted if somebody even moderately quick is running at me. I specialise in scoring own goals.

Only two games got played this weekend, one being Newington against Winston Hills, who apparently (along with Kellyville BLK) were tipped to win the league this year. It was a scrappy game with few chances but we prevailed and won 3-2. With the majority of the team being rather young and naive they wanted to continue attacking in the final 10 minutes when under pressure. However, you're truly was in fine form running the ball to the corner flag, holding off the challenges, walking for throw ins etc. I really feel I have perfected the art of time wasting in these situations!

So that leaves the league table looking like below:

Next week we are away to Auburn FC.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS!

Did you purposley sign up to a team that plays in probably some of the roughest suburbs of Sydney

    Auburn???!!!!!??

Just let them win for Allahs sake, that way you shouldn't get knifed or shot.

And don't take your car, get a lift with someone else, unless you want it broken into/stolen/set on fire/etc.

Good kebabs/adana's on the main street though.

Updated league now all results are in:

Looks like something happened and Kellyville (WHT) forfeited their game to Toongabbie so automatically lose 3-0!

I havent played for a few years 11 aside anyway, dont some 6 a side which was good fun. Ive been saying for last 3 years I will get fit and give it a go again.

Used to be a decent striker/attacking midfielder. Played Semi-Pro for Lincoln United up to about 19, played for Grantham Town and was on the books of Mansfield Town and Lincoln City as a kid. Was that confident of my ability I even wrote to Man United for a trial at 15/16. (Was youngest ever player at 9 years old to sign schoolboy forms for Mansfield - thats my claim to fame) That and handing Becks a ball when I was ball boy for Lincoln City when he was on loan at PNE

Pic of me playing for Lincoln United below
