The Gaffer was shocked to see that he just about had a team for the visit of Mansfield after totting up the names that'd showed up at training. 18 players had made their presence known but two were injured, meaning that the Vipers only just filled their bench for the game. The bad news though was that he hadn't been able to rest AJ as intended while there was no sign of any right winger or centre midfielder in the squad which meant that two players were forced out of position.

As expected, there were some players being rotated for the game but while Erkifino, trunky, merkezekrem and samsami (handed a debut) came straight in at the back five, there was no sign of Craig Forrest nor felixsjo which meant that ebfatz made a 30th league start of the season.

In midfield, gazzas1uk sits in front of the defence but with the trio of Jesus, Robaldo1 and loyal_royal1 all missing, evesham was asked to start ahead of him and it was the same story on the right wing as Shermaldo, Papalzru and ZanSnake were all AWOL which saw Bevchenko start out of position on the right wing.

The struggle to put a team together was so bad that there were both Fodster and AJ named on the bench!

As samsami was handed the number 20 shirt at long last, merkezekrem was chosen as captain to lead the team out in the hope of recording a third win of the season over Mansfield.

If there were any worries about having two players out of position, it was put straight out of the mind as the Vipers took a lead virtually straight away. It was Bevchenko, out on the right, who gave the Vipers a lead for his 6th goal of the season which equals his goal tally from his first year as a Viper. There were few incidents in the first half overall but another key goal was scored as Janis89 scored with a delightful curved shot, putting the Vipers two goals up by half-time without really breaking a sweat. The game continued in the same vein after the restart as Janis89 did well to turn away from his marker before converting his 25th goal of the season, all in the league. Fresh faces were then put on to the pitch with Fodster and Baz getting a run out but it was pyromyst who was next to be highlighted after being pushed inside the area to win a penalty. That saw Erkifino make the trip from one box to the other and convert from the spot for his first ever Vipers goal. With the Vipers 4:0 up and 8 minutes left on the clock, it should have been easy to see the game out with a clean sheet but Mansfield scored twice in injury time, presumably because Erkifino had remained in the other penalty area.

Good win that. Apart from the 2 goals we let in in the last minute! (Boss...seeing as it was 3-0 when I was subbed, do I get a clean sheet bonus??)

    Previous Results
    Season 3 - League Two - H - Stevenage - 4:0 (Janis89 x2, loyal_royal1, gazzas1uk)

Barring the last few minutes of the game against Mansfield, the 'fringe' side had played very well indeed to help the Vipers to keep their 15 point gap over Accrington and Southend. Lying in 14th place, Stevenage represent a tougher challenge but The Gaffer continues with the policy of playing those next-in-line to start given that the opposition currently reside in the bottom half of the table.

It doesn't change much in terms of the probable line-up although we will see AJ start at the top following Janis89's performance. Elsewhere, there should be starts for Craig Forrest, Robaldo1, Liam and ZanSnake but will they turn up?

    Probable Starting XI

    Erkifino

Craig Forrest - samsami - merkezekrem - trunky

    gazzas1uk

    Robaldo1

    ZanSnake - pyromyst - Liam

    AJ

Bench: Goofy, felixsjo, Kaneman, loyal_royal1, Fodster.

I did post in the opening sentence what the date of the game would be. Nobody noticed which makes me wonder if all the pre-match text information is worth it?

And no, you don't get a bonus.

Surprised to be named in favor of Janis who has been outstanding this season and especially last match. Well done, Jan.

    Next in line?

I now have the better last 5 games average score than my mate, Big Baz.

    Honestly...I ask you...pffft...

*Hold on, if I have a better last 5 game score than Baz then he technically is 'Next in Line' and therefore deserves a place in the main team...I'll shut up.*

Next in Line left back ready to play Boss!

Not the last few minutes I didn't. My shoelaces had come undone so that's why Heslop could jink past me and score that goal!

I hope there's some video footage of my tackles? I did not even know I could do that! Never tried it before, actually! But that's why my shoelaces came undone, see?
