Your form is actually now better than AJ and Janis so you'd be starting either way

I might as well get a season ticket to the games, as I'm always in the stands anyway.

My 'calculations' show that you've only attended 19 games so far, of which you've played 10. Not a bad record overall, to be fair.

As The Gaffer named a starting eleven that contained four players who he'd prefer to have rested, along with an additional two on the bench, he cast a longing eye on the calendar at the date marked 5th May. That was the day which would be the last game of the season which would give the Vipers manager the opportunity to bring new players into the club as well as allowing players to switch positions if they wished to do so. The last 6 months of the season had showed that the squad was in desperate need of more competition in certain positions, even more so since Jesus and Papalzru had effectively gone missing, meaning there were no right wingers nor natural centre midfielders.

Still, the Vipers made the most of what they had and they'd done just that in securing the title with four games left to play. It's an almighty achievement for a club in their first ever season in League Two and had formed only three years ago.

Back to the team, the Vipers had six changes from their last match with a completely different backline. In came felixsjo, Baz, merkezekrem and vinjwoods with ebfatz, trunky, Dermotron and BobMem not fit enough to start. Leading the line was Fodster in place of Janis89 while Bevchenko was handed a start with both pyromyst and Redknapp69 unfit although the latter was forced to start on the right wing, as were batman, gazzas1uk and evesham.

It's highly likely that those on the bench will come in for gazzas1uk, Redknapp69 and either batman or evesham to preserve their fitness.

Meanwhile, merkezekrem stepped out as the captain with Dermotron being rested.

With gazzas1uk, batman and Redknapp69 all in need of a rest and tiring almost immediately, it's probably no surprise to see the Vipers below their best in the first half.

Even in front of their fans, they struggled to get going with Northampton having the first attempt into the penalty area which Erkifino comfortably caught a cross in the box although O'Toole had strayed offside anyway.

Minutes later, Fodster had been stopped in his tracks by a crude Tozer tackle which saw the defender booked. Bevchenko's curved free-kick over the wall was punched away by Jalal which was the only Vipers effort on goal in the first half.

Northampton then had their first official chance as Zibaka played a one-two with D'Ath before blasting the ball over the bar. merkezekrem had done well to close down the space before the shot was fired.

The away team were clearly the fitter and more energetic team as Bevchenko was then booked for clattering into O'Toole. The Vipers were able to withhold the pressure after the free-kick was taken though.

A cross for D'Ath in the area by Holmes was brought down for Zibaka soon afterwards. As Zibaka then tried to set up Holmes, vinjwoods got a foot in to concede a corner. Moloney drilled it into the box and beating evesham in the air was a header by D'Ath that went into the net.

The Vipers continued to look labourious and each time they looked dangerous, they were stopped by Northampton. This time, Holmes was booked for tripping batman. The free-kick whipped in by Bevchenko was set up for gazzas1uk by vinjwoods but Moloney was able to block the ball.

CM Vipers then tried to hit back straight away but as felixsjo played the ball long to Bevchenko, Cresswell tripped him. The resulting free-kick was headed away by D'Ath in the last incidence of note before the break.

It was no surprise then to see Redknapp69, gazzas1uk and batman fail to come back out on the pitch for the second half. In their place were samsami, pyromyst and AJ. It appears that AJ was tasked with playing behind Fodster in an advanced midfield position with Bevchenko moved to the right wing and pyromyst deployed on the left. Meanwhile, evesham moved into central midfield with samsami set up as a defensive midfielder.

Although there were five players out there who weren't in their natural positions, The Gaffer hoped that the changes would trigger a response from his team.

That wasn't quite the case as the Vipers went on to picking up three bookings in the next 10 minutes! After vinjwoods was the first to be cautioned, Baz followed suit three minutes later after pushing Holmes. Then, after Northampton's De Girolamo had headed over the bar, merkezekrem gave away a free kick and was booked in the process. From that free-kick, Marrs was able to line it up and beat Erkifino at the far post to make it 2:0.

The game was effectively over by after point despite there being 34 minutes left to play. The Vipers did come close with Bevchenko seeing a low drive pushed away by Jalal and cleared by Tozer before a cross by felixsjo was met with a volley from Fodster which went over the bar.

All in all, a day to forget for the Vipers!

    Previous Results
    Season 3 - League Two - H - Wycombe - 4:1 (Redknapp69, Janis89 x3)

With the subdued Northampton fixture taking place on a Monday night, the next fixture is away at 2nd placed Wycombe six days later which has allowed the entire squad to fully recover from a busy week for the Vipers, all but Baz (89%) and Kaneman (injured).

Perhaps the players had taken their foot off the gas after securing the title? That'd be a harsh suggestion as there were genuinely some exhausted players out there that had featured against Northampton as a long season comes towards a close. This fixture will be a whopping 56th game of the season if you count all the league games, cup games and friendlies together. It's not easy to keep everyone fit when you consider that there is probably only a core of 20 players that turn up on a regular basis.

Nevertheless, the team selection for the trip to Wycombe will be the strongest one possible based on form as usual. That should see the likes of Goofy, trunky, Dermotron, vinjwoods, ebfatz, pyromyst and Janis89 recalled to the team and there may be others coming in if there is no sign of Jesus or Shermaldo.

    Probable Starting XI

    Goofy

    ebfatz - vinjwoods - Dermotron - trunky

    evesham

    Jesus

    Shermaldo - pyromyst - batman

    Janis89

Bench: Erkifino, BobMem, Redknapp69, Robaldo1, AJ.
