The tide has certainly turned for Feyenoord, the same could be said of yourself too, but in the opposite direction from the looks of things.

    Epilogue (1)

Just a few months after Feyenoord had been struggling to avoid relegation they ended the season in 8th position. A remarkable recovery! And winning the Dutch Cup meant qualification for European football.

With Jansen as manager Feyenoord won the Dutch Cup again in the next year and they ended in 3rd position in the Dutch League. Jansen even took them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup that year.

The following year Jansen's old teammate, Willem van Hanegem, became Feyenoord manager with Jansen staying on as Technical Director. In Van Hanegem's first year Feyenoord won the Dutch Championship and in 1994 and 1995 they won the Dutch Cup again.

The dark years had finally ended.

    Epilogue (2)

Obviously Wim Jansen's impact on Feyenoord - and especially the contrast between his approach and that of Gunder Bengtsson - had a massive influence on me. It seemed obvious to me how crucial the role of a manager is and how important good football strategy is.

The rest, as they say, is history. I continued to play football for a few more years, and I even picked up my old hobby again. After all, chess like football is all about tactics and strategy.

Finally, it should hardly come as a surprise that after having finished my training to become a football manager and having coached several youth teams and lower league teams, I ended up where I did!

Shame it's over now. Perhaps a story of Samsami in the Zeister Woods?

Great job man. Brilliantly done. Also no idea how you ended up with the same scores as in real life.

Wich Madeira club ?! Nacional ? Maritimo ?! União da Madeira ?! Great story by the way

Bengtsson started his career as assistant coach under Sven-Göran Eriksson at IFK Göteborg. In 1982, after Eriksson won the UEFA Cup and left the club for Benfica, Bengtsson became head coach for a few months. After that he went to Norwegian club Vålerenga, with which he became champion in 1983 and 1984.

After a short time at Portuguese club Madeira, where he was fired after a few months, and a short return at Vålerenga, he became head coach of IFK Göteborg from 1985 to 1987. In his last year, Göteborg again won the UEFA Cup. After this Bengtsson left the club for Panathinaikos FC, where he worked for the season 1988–1989.

As a manager who had won the UEFA Cup with IFK Göteborg Bengtsson had a more than decent reputation so once again in South Rotterdam the fans' hopes were raised!

An ant with five balls would've raised our hopes.

I really enjoy your story, and i will now see what happened since you became a manager.

    - Mourinho was indeed a weak goalkeeper ( his father also a goalkeeper was much better).
    - Romário...I remember perfectly being a young kid and watching this incredibly talented player destroying defenses after defenses. That one year in Barcelona...great memories of a very special striker.
    - Gaston Taument As portuguese i do not really followed the Eredivisie...but i remember of watching some highlights and Taument along with Regi Blinker and Henrik Larsson were very well regarded players. Unfortunately he came to play but had no impact on my Benfica

I still wake up screaming in the middle of the night thinking about Blinker and Taument.
