The glory of the FA Cup was over after just one game as the Vipers must turn their focus to facing Northampton for their third consecutive away game. This one is a rarity for this season as the Vipers have come across Northampton before when playing in League One last season, drawing the first game 1:1 with a Janis89 goal before losing 2:0 at home. Isn't it time that the Vipers beat them for the first time?

On the back of a poor 4:1 beating at Vale Park, The Gaffer has decisions to make. Kowalinho, GFRay86, Baz, PedroM, evesham and drkshadow1 had all registered a 6 or less in their rating which means changes although of course, Kowalinho remains in the sticks.

That means recalls for ebfatz, trunky, BobMem, gazzas1uk and Felix whilst three players unfortunately miss out on the squad itself - GFRay86, drkshadow1 and evesham. Bevchenko had missed out on the squad last time and so comes onto the bench along with Craig Forrest and London35.

The home side, who are 16th in the table with 7 wins and 7 defeats, employ an interesting version of 4-4-2 which involves a narrow midfield. How would it match up to the Vipers traditional 4-5-1?

The Vipers made the perfect start tot he game as Redknapp69 moved upfield with the ball after six minutes, finding Felix with a low forward pass. The left winger turned nicely on the ball, looked for Janis89 who had stretch to reach the pass. Janis89 then lost his man, found himself with plenty of room and calmly scored beyond Paddy Kenny. The delight on his face was clear for all to see as he scored only his 4th goal of the season.

Unfortunately for The Gaffer, celebrations were muted when BobMem pulled up with an apparent injury. The Cyprus Under 21 defender had hurt his foot and was forced off the pitch, allowing PedroM to join the play after just 7 minutes.

The injury didn't disrupt the momentum that the Vipers had established straight after kick-off. Northampton had tried to attack the Vipers with Eardley trying his luck but the ball took a deflection off PedroM and fell for Janis89 who lobbed it right to hornbloweroafc. The winger nodded the ball on for Janis89 to retrieve it and advance further down the right flank before putting a low cross into the far post. Felix came running in for it and found himself in space to be left with a simple finish and make it 2:0. It's only his second goal of the season and already doubles his tally from last season!

Janis89 headed clean over the bar, Kowalinho beat away a Revell header before tipping wide a half-volley from the same player, hornbloweroafc skimmed one wide, Kenny tipped away a left footed attempt from Janis89 and then got his body behind a Janis89 drive, hornbloweroafc headed over from a corner, Kowalinho couldn't keep hold of a header from Revell with PedroM clearing it from danger and hornbloweroafc saw a shot parried away by Kenny to cap a busy first half for both teams!

The second half started quietly and it was five minutes old when the first change of the game was made as Hanley replaced McCourt for Northampton. The quietness continued until the 64th minute when another substitution was made as London35 replaced Felix who had a potential thigh injury.

The game finally sparked into life again a minute later as trunky took control of a loose ball after O'Toole had headed upfield. He'd played it on to hornbloweroafc who embarked on a run up the right, continuing his run before putting in a low cross to the near post. Redknapp69 had made a run into space and smashed the ball into the net at the top corner!

The assist was hornbloweroafc's final contribution as he'd tired himself out after that run! On came samsami in his place and Revell was also taken off by Northampton with Richards coming on in the 71st minute.

The Vipers were simply seeing the game out now although Janis89 was denied when Kenny got himself behind the ball after another shot. He got his goal as the game went into injury time though when trunky picked up another loose ball from a Zakuani header and his cross low from the left was received by pyromyst who couldn't shot and so fed in Janis89 to rocket the ball home and make it 4:0 with his 5th goal of the season!

The whistle blew and the Vipers had just what they needed to recover from the FA Cup elimination. Sheff Utd had won too and had also played their game in hand now which leaves them 6 points ahead of the Vipers who had established a five point gap over Charlton themselves.

Great result lads, but gutted to be injured again

7 minutes and didn't even touch the ball. Must have tripped over the penalty spot or something.

That was the first thing I noticed as well.

It appears I was too busy laughing at your misfortune to actually concentrate on my performance. Do I keep my spot for a six or am I bumped again?

IIRC a six means you keep your spot. Only below a six you get subbed.

I am a bit disappointed in your performance ebfatz.. as the natural leader of the RBU I expected more from you! Maybe this whole LBU vs RBU thing is distracting you too much, that's why I'm pleaing for a FBU (Fullback Union) so we can focus on more important stuff.

Always enjoy reading this. Its as much fun as the Dream team league. However i am glad to get the win even if I was not on the team bus. Felix showing us AML how to do it, hopefully the injury is nothing drastic and you win us some more games by feeding our special attacking group
