    The comeback of Samsami

Oh no - limping your way to the end of the season

1 more effort needed to get that top 4.

It's a very disappointing end when the prize was there to try and grasp but being a realist, IMO, Top 4 and CL would still be a huge success

You have to send them out to win, a point may not be good enough if Spurs win

    Good luck!

I miss a couple of games and it all goes tits up. I guess that the defence couldn't save you for ever. You don't need me to tell you what the problem is. Lets hope that you can hold on to secure a Champion's League qualification. Even that is starting to look a bit dodgy.

Rovers qualify for Champions League football!

On 17th May we played Bolton Wanderers and a refreshed Rovers side ended all doubts over who will play Champions League football next season!!

We talked and talked this week and our lads realised that this was the match of the year. More important even than winning the EFL Cup at Wembley. Nothing else mattered now. And they did exactly what they had to do!

Within ten minutes Duelund (!) had already scored the opener. He hit a ferocious left-footed strike and found the net to the delight all of our staff who have sometimes had their doubts about "the young striker of dubious quality and temperament".

And just before the break Mahrez scored the 100th league goal of his career. It was the goal which virtually decided the match and secured Champions League football for us. It also was the goal which Mahrez very much needed as his first year at the club has not been what we had all been hoping for.

The second half was a formality. Mahrez continued to play well with five shots on goal and we were never in any danger.

So yes, we did it!! Duelund was named Man of the Match and Steele ended the season in style by keeping a clean sheet again.
    Spoiler!

And it's a very good thing we won, because so did Spurs and Liverpool!

So this has been our best season so far. And there is no need to say that we need more goals. But what's more, Mahrez will have to deliver next year or we will have to sell him.

Just five points behind the champions. Nothing to be ashamed of!

The target has been met and the League Cup a bonus on the way. 5 points behind the winners is nothing, so if you can sort out the goals scored column, you can easily move on next year. First target has to be getting to the Champion's League group stages.

And five points above 7th place. So next year with the new formation (and hopefully with Mahrez playing well!) will be an interesting season!

    Finances

After ending in fourth spot in the Premier League our financial status has significantly improved but there is still very little money available for transfers. However, we know that the Board will soon make more money available for that purpose.

One of the problems this past season were the high wages of Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez is being paid far more than any other first squad player. This is also the reason why the Board has decided that Mahrez will need to deliver next season or we shall have to sell him to any club which might be interested, simply because we cannot afford such high wages unless in exceptional cases.

The current wages listed below are the monthly wages for our first team players and for our subs (so not weekly wages).

So money is an issue. But at least we will get 3.8M from Arsenal for Jon Flanagan. And to our surprise Man Utd suddenly wanted to buy Jeremain Lens! He is getting older so we are happy to sell him for 1.6M.

    Shortlist

We currently have 24 players on our shortlist, 18 of whom are interested in joining Rovers. Now our priority right now is actually not a striker, but a quality defender because Ak left the club in January and Flanagan will leave the club in July. So our defence needs strengthening. In fact, we are already talking with OGC Nice about Jemerson.

As attacking players we already have Fekir, Duelund and Vera (as well as Mahrez) but we do need one additional quality striker as well.

Some interesting names in that list, although I expect that some will be getting into their twilight years. Good deal for Lens. He has served the club well, but his usefulness is reaching it's end, so time to move on.

Yes, players like Matic (who will join Rovers on a free transfer) and perhaps others from the shortlist will raise the level but don't have a future. However, Chirivella, Duelund and Vera do! And also defenders like Nyambe, Wahlqvist and Akpoguma. So hopefully our talented young players will keep maturing while one or two older new players, like Matic, will help us be successful next season. They are more for the immediate future.

Mahrez in crazy wages and dies indeed need to perform next year - maybe CL will make him shine

Good deal on Lens - did well for you early doors

Ranieri is a BEAST (had him in my Swans team and brilliant at DM or LB. could also cover DC

Some cracking names there in Aguero, VVD, Keita (another BEAST in the last update).
Jonathan Tah very promising IRL but didn't do great for me at Swans.
Emre Can is cracking but expensive and you have Besic

I'd focus on Aguero/VVD/Keita and especially Ranieri

    Mahrez on 250K, wtf!!

Good to see you qualify for CL in the end, made hard work of it though! Great to see you've kept progressing though and silverware too this season.

Interested to see who you bring in now, not a lot of money to work with.

For monthly wages that seems normal compared to what other teams play for their star players.

For Rovers it's too much right now.

    Remarkable double signing for Rovers

On 1st July Nemanja Matic joined Rovers on a free transfer from Man City. However, Matic is not the only player to join the club. In fact, we added not one but two additional major signings in this first two weeks of the new transfer window!

The first player we signed was none other than Man City's Sergio Agero who chose for Rovers even though Real Madrid were also interested in the 33-year-old striker. And that choice of Rovers over Real Madrid immediately made Agero the fans' favourite!

    Spoiler!

Now hopefully Agero can be a mentor for Duelund and for Vera who both have so much potential but who don't deliver consistently and therefore cannot be relied upon yet.

And it did not stop there. We needed a world-class striker, but perhaps more importantly we need a quality defender - and yes, we have found what we are looking for!

Van Dijk is the experienced quality defender we need right now since this season we will be playing Champions League football. Nyambe, Wahlqvist and Akpoguma have all played quite well last season, but they are relatively young and they still lack the necessary experience. Van Dijk will be the one to set an example and show them the way!

So this means that in the first half of July we have already spent 14M on new players, but then again we have also received 5.25M from the sale of Flanagan and Lens.

Therefore, our financial status is secure now. In fact, we could even afford to sign an additional quality player if that is what our staff decide we need. As it is, we now have a very good mixture of experienced players and young, talented players all eager to prove themselves.
    Spoiler!

    Rovers' new two-striker formation

So this is what our new two-striker formation looks like with our current squad! Of course we might yet sign an additional player or two in this July/August transfer window, but for now this will be the formation which we will present to our fans as we play our three pre-season friendlies.

And it's the formation which we will use not only in the new Premier League season but also in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup and in the Champions League!

    Spoiler!
