So you can only play a formation with 3 at the back?

13-11-17, 08:35 AM

13-11-17, 09:37 AM
On it like a car bonnet!

No issues with bringing new staff in?

13-11-17, 09:41 AM
Nah no penalty on hiring staff.

13-11-17, 09:50 AM
Crikey - only £6m transfer funds (when using Saturns V4 x2 patch) - gonna have to wheel and deal if we'lre gonna bring in anyone!

Is it worth it for 100 point deduction though? Might go with what we have

Tempted to play wing backs

13-11-17, 09:56 AM
Nice one lads, this should get the people playing the update :)

Do you have to have initials for a username to be a mod in the challenge section?! :pound:

You're just jealous, EF :P

Will be done on this by end of the day - let's just say I am strugglind and you really need to think about your strategy (as well as formation) before undertaking it!

14-11-17, 02:18 PM
Looking forward to hearing about your season mate.

14-11-17, 04:38 PM
After playing this I now want Huddersfield to get relegated

Did a bit of a RANTING timeline with it as well :pound:

• Pretty much replaced the whole backroom staff
• I play a random 5-3-2 formation

• https://s17.postimg.org/gmb4en21r/Hudders_formation.png (https://postimages.org/)

• Transfer listed a lot of high value players in the hope at some point we’d be able to attract and afford a decent player who may get listed
• Sign Guiseppe Rossi on a nostalgic whim – minus 100 points (injured for 3 weeks after game 2 though!)
• First 2 games boring and hardly any shots but 2 draws 
• In desperation for ANY sort of “quality” we sign Snodgrass for £10m :pound:
• My first choice GK gets fecking sold on last day of window so I’m left with Rob fecking Green between the sticks
o To make things worse I’ve agreed a deal to sell my only backup ‘keeper as well
o Scrap that – Rob Green sent off in game 4 so a kid will be in goal with no backup keeper
o …………and in his first game he gets a “4” rating :frusty:
• We finally get a positive result beating fecking Forest Green in League Cup
• Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss – after 7 games and in the bottom 3 we finally get a win. 1-0 v Stoke  :lock:
• Maybe in part due to a new formation

• https://s17.postimg.org/7raa44kz3/Hudders_formation1.png (https://postimages.org/)

• Then after a defeat away to saints WE GET 2 WINS IN A ROW! – WTF!!!!!!
• Penalties win in 3rd Round of League cup v hammers after being 2-0 down
o The “reward” – away to Man City – FFS   :frusty: :smash:
 And we lose 3-2 – Robert Green with a shocker – a “4” rating – we are out of the cup
• Killer result away to Crystal Palace. We are 3-1 up and lose 4-3 – leaking 2 goals in last minutes :tsk:
• Another tweak to formation

• https://s17.postimg.org/lkymt5qf3/Hudders_formation2.png (https://postimages.org/)

• - we are in 19th place and then we go and beat top of the league Chelsea away 1-0
• We back it up with a win away to Bournemouth to move us to 16th after 18 games
• Christ – we make it 4 unbeaten by drawing 0-0 away to Spurs and then battering Burnley 3-0 at home. Up to the dizzy heights of 14th
• Bit of an awful run then…………
• Couple of Cup wins in FA Cup
• Lots of January business done with the likes of Carrick/Sakho/Assombalonga/Ajose joining
• 17th after 26 games……..
• Through to QF of FA Cup after beating Hammers away
• 4 points from Watford and Saints before demolishing Everton 3-1 in Cup QF. Nice semi draw please!
• Fecking Yes – Bournemouth at home while the other tie is Arsenal v Chelsea
• BATTER Palace but the buggers come back and sneak and undeserved draw against us.
• 14th after 30 games but only 4 points between us and 19th. 5 point gap between us and 13th so we’ll be hard pushed to climb higher than we are!
• Balls – we go 2 up away to 3rd place Liverpool but they peg it back to 2-2. This happens a LOT  - You’d take an away point at Anfield though!
• Woooooooooooot – Into the FA Cup Final. Only just though as we win on penno’s v a dogged Bouremouth. The opponents will be Arsenal who smashed Chelsea 3-0
• We then get smashed at home v Man U with a rotated squad
• HUGE 1-0 away win to the Team above us – Leicester
• 15th after 33 games. 4 points from relegation zone though :scared:
• We back it up beating Hammers 2-1 – up to 14th!
• Feck it – any chance of 11th or better gone when we lose to relegation threatened Newcastle
• Feck sake – we are leading 2nd placed Chelsea 1-0 until 87 minute and then LOSE 2-1. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
• Nooooooooooooo – Asambolonga loan finishes  - 3 games left including FA Cup final as well!
• Thumping 4-0 win away to Burnley means we won’t get relegated   :lock: - 2 injuires though including Rossi 
• Feckkkkkkkkkkkkkk – we have no real striker for the FA CUP Final. Ajose cup tied while Rossi and Kachunga were injured last season – this will be fun – maybe I’ll play SAKHO up front  :pound:
• Here is the formation and line up for the final – absolute sh!t show

• https://s17.postimg.org/jge9s2wi7/Hudders_formation3_-_final.png (https://postimages.org/)

• We get off to a dream start!
• But then it falls apart

• https://s17.postimg.org/xzletgn27/hudders_fa_cup.png (https://postimages.org/)

• https://s17.postimg.org/59yiwtqrz/hudders_fa_cup1.png (https://postimages.org/)

• https://s17.postimg.org/usqv9uprj/hudders_fa_cup2.png (https://postimages.org/)

• And we lose the last game to end up in a respectable 14th

https://s17.postimg.org/7raa450en/hudders_table.png (https://postimages.org/)

Fair play – this was a BRILLIANT challenge! (for those that don't cheat :))

If you make transfers you really need to get a decent league position or be lucky enough to win a cup to get any points

I suppose you could make no transfers and go with what you have – I think I made the error in transfer listing a load which maybe didn’t help squad happiness (although nobody complained or was unhappy) but I didn’t have much faith in them

But, maybe I was correct as the quality is pretty woeful

My defence REALLY struggled

So – Total Points are as follows

League finish – 14th – 0 points
League goals scored – 44 points
League golas conceded – minus 58 points
League Cup – 0 points
FA Cup – 250 points
Loans in – minus 100 points
Transfers in – minus 700 points

Total = MINUS 564 points!

14-11-17, 04:40 PM
I may as well do this again, buy NOBODY, play defensive and I would easily beat this score

14-11-17, 04:53 PM
Put ya theory to the test then mate :D

Good work on being the first to finish the challenge though mate, technically you're top of the leader board for this challenge

14-11-17, 04:59 PM
Well - I wouldn't have minus 800 points on transfers so I would be good wouldn't I? :)

:first: :)

14-11-17, 05:26 PM
True :D

Great run to the FA Cup Final mate, shame about losing after going ahead.

14-11-17, 06:12 PM
Yeah - we had a pretty favourable route really. Hammers/Saints/Everton and Bournemouth in Semi's I think (so no huge teams but a few trough early games)

I was bricking it after that early lead but they then controlled the game. Thought there would be a late goal and there was - sadly for them :(

15-11-17, 09:44 PM
Alright let's just start by saying that this was a tough son of a b....! So well done Challenge Team! :ok

I decided to not buy or loan anyone in to avoid deduction points, but man it was hard..

We started the season well and were even on top of the table after 8 or so matches. Even managed to land the first two manager of the month awards because of our good start! After that it slowly collapsed and eventually we finished on the 8th place in the league. The lack of quality subs killed us when faced with injuries (and we had a lot of those second half of the season!) The cups were a disaster, so no points there.

+65 points for goals scored in the Premier League
-58 points for goals conceded in the Premier League

Total = 507 points

16-11-17, 10:03 AM
Well played GFR! That actually matches my best test result. Well done indeed!

16-11-17, 10:21 AM
Well I could have done much better if I didn't had the injury wave from December to April.

If I had attracted players I could have maybe finished 3rd? But I would only gain 500 points, but lose them for attracting the players.

16-11-17, 10:33 AM
That was the biggest challenge. You need really good players to make the transfer worthwhile. I did manage to win the league Cup tho. But as I said it was only in testing (holiday mode)

16-11-17, 08:20 PM
Gonna give this one a go as I enjoy these short challenges. Couple of Qs - is it 3 DCs or 3 of any defenders? And if so do full backs count as wide players?

Craig Forrest
16-11-17, 08:22 PM
3 of any defender, yes a DL and DR would count as wide players

20-11-17, 01:20 PM
Tough challenge indeed...

No transfers - full confidence in the team we already have :ohwell:

I think i might do better with couple of key signings and absolutely with better nww tactics. I find this very challenging. :D

20-11-17, 06:33 PM
This might be one of the best challenges yet chaos

I might give it a another whirl with no transfers and see how I get on :)

30-12-17, 09:21 PM
Liked the difficulty of this challenge and going to have to try it again as I managed to get the sack before Christmas :boom:

06-02-18, 10:03 AM
wow this is so hard for a tactical doughnut like myself, tried twice relegated twice  I'm determined to keep them up!!

06-02-18, 09:13 PM
woohoo 3rd time lucky, Huddersfield stay in the Premier League :D, this was the hardest challenge I've had!
I decided to go for it this time, no defensive bullspit, Attack Attack Attack.
so many injury prone players and strikers that couldn't hit a bus from 10 yards away grrrr anyway here's the screenies
I never want to do this again, period!! :P

Goals scored = 46 points
Goals against = 59 points
Challenge total -13 points

17-07-18, 03:17 PM
Sacked after 11 games .... 11 defeats

I decided to sell a few players who I wasn't going to use, and built up enough in the kitty to buy Vardy for £4.1m from Leicester. The fans were ecstatic
The opener at home to Brighton, and we were well ontop although the score was 1-1. I made my final changes, the keeper was sent off and we went down 3-2
Game 2 Bournemouth. In control, keeper gets injured, no subs left 0-2
Game 3 Burnley. In control again and leading 1-0 when they score twice in injury time.

Then we met the big teams with only a teenage keeper and no reserve. We gave them a good fight, but once Vardy was injured v Liverpool in game 4, we had no fire power.

If we didn't have bad luck, we would have no luck at all. I'm going to give this another go, but hell this is a tough one.

03-08-18, 01:59 PM
Whooping Wagner (Reloaded)

After my first disaster, where I was sacked after 16 games, I thought I'd give this another try. This is by far one of the toughest short challenges as the Huddersfield team is absolutely woeful. The strikers are unfit and couldn't score in a brothel and not helped by a midfield that is totally lacking in any creativity. Scoring goals was a nightmare. The only saving grace are the keepers Jonas Lössl and Rob Green. It made for a season that had more ups and downs than Nemesis at Alton Towers.

My strategy was to go with what I had, but to sell off as much of the dross so that I could make a big signing in January if they were likely to make a difference. Booty, Hiwala, Horsfall, Kane and Scanell all left, generating £1.725 million. I was left with 2 long term injuries, 5 transfer listed, 2 reserve keepers and a 1st team squad of 22 players. It wasn't much and there was little room for injuries and suspensions. The backroom was totally overhauled. I kept 1 scout to check out the next opponents and sacked the rest. I got rid of the assistant and all the coaches and recruited new ones, including Cris, Glen Hoddle and Stipe Pletikosa, then brought the physios upto quota.

And so we started at home to Brighton, a game that we should be looking to win if we were to have any chance. It was a cautious formation as I didn't realise quite how useless the attacking options were

Fortunately, Tom Ince was a man on a mission, and his 2 goals landed a 2-1 win. It was the start of one of the season's highs. Despite going down at Palace, and an injury time freekick giving Southampton all 3 points, we beat Watford, got a point from Newcastle and, amazingly, came from behind to take a point from Old Trafford with an Aaron Mooy header. 8 points after 6 games. Top 10 should be easy if we could continue like this.

We couldn't.

6 straight defeats. No goals scored and hardly any shots attempted. That run did include a League Cup defeat to Sunderland where I played reserves and youths. There was no chance of us making any progress. We were down in 19th. Time for a change of plan and a tweak to the formation

Moving Ince further forward might give some more support to the front man, and removing the forward arrows might allow the midfield to last for 90 minutes. It worked. Starting with a 1-1 draw at Stoke, we followed it up with wins at home to Bournemouth, then away wins at West Brom and Leicester. 10 points out of a possible 12 in November. A minor miracle that was marked by this …..

And the run didn't stop there. A draw at Swansea, then, infront of the TV cameras, a 0-0 draw with Chelsea that had viewers leaving their sofa's well before full-time. Never the less, we were back in the top 10

Not surprisingly, we lost to City and Liverpool, but snastched a draw at Watford then beat a very poor Newcastle to end the calendar year in 13th. Encouraging, but looking closely, getting to 10th, and some points, is a long way off. We can expect United to win most of their games in hand, which leaves 9th placed Southampton the target, 7 points and a game in hand ahead, and they have a better goal difference

I now had the question of what to do about transfers. I was losing Lössl and Hadergjonaj who had been on loan, but I did have 3 deals lined up

Green would directly replace Lössl and I had 2 others in the reserves. The defence had been relatively solid, injury and suspension free. Zanka would be a direct replacement for Hadergjonaj and I still had Crainey as a back up, before resorting to playing someone out of position. I decided that Steve Cook would not generate the 100 points he would cost, so that deal was cancelled. Amrabat and/or Berahino ? Getting to an FA cup semi-final would be a lottery and I doubted that either of them would make a difference. Could either of them generate the 7 points to Southampton ? I doubted it, so both of those deals were also canned. I would play out the season with the players I started with.

One win in 8 over January and February (again I didn't contest the FA Cup tie with Derby) and my recruitment decisions were looking like a bad mistake. We were only 6 points clear of the bottom 3 and needing a lift. And then came the miracle of March. It started with a 4-0, our biggest win of the season, at home to Stoke. Despite being battered by Everton, Palmer and Quaner scored with our only shots of the game for a 2-0 win, then 3 goals in the first 20 minutes sunk Burnley. As most teams only had 2 league games in March, that earned my second Manager of the Month, an achievement only matched by Conté

And the league was also getting a bit more interesting. 6 games left, one final push

Typically, we scored just 3 more goals, 3 draws, including a 2-2 at Stamford Bridge, and 3 defeats. It left us 13th in the final table

Overall, that is a decent performance and probably reflects the year as a whole. We were rarely in any real relegation threat and I got the bonus of the Manager of the Month awards. They were a bit of a fluke and more to do with fixture scheduling (we got all the big teams together, then all the lesser teams, and they happened to coincide with the start of a month. A couple of pints to note

Other than the keepers (Lössl averaged 7.76 before he left) nobody covered themselves with glory. Ince was the top scorer with 8 which is pretty shocking

A special mention needs to goto Laurent Depoitre. It isn't very common that I see a 3 rating, and usually only for a goalkeeper who is having a stinker. Never for a striker. Depoitre managed to achieve this twice in 18 games …. good effort !

Manager of the Month 200
Goals Scored 32
Goals Against -39

Total 193

07-08-18, 05:20 AM
Just finished this frustrating but rewarding save. After losing 10 in a row, and struggling to find a decent tactic, my desire to keep Huddersfield up outweighed my quest for challenge points, and I ended up buying 17 players!

We did turn it around though and finished 16th, and I managed to find a tactic I liked, which was simply taking the default attacking 352, and dragging one of the strikers into the DM position. It stopped us conceding so much, and we scored more. Notable wins were 6-1 against Crystal Palace and a 1-0 over Chelsea. We won 5, drew 9, and lost 4 of our last 18 games, so dragged ourselves out of it.

This was too tough for me, and with my Manager of the Month award I end up with -1614 points!

The squad is poor, and the only original players who performed regularly for me were Schindler, Mooy, and Ince.

You really need a killer 3 at the back tactic to succeed at this with the squad that you inherit.

29-08-18, 11:28 PM
I had a go at this and lasted 22 games before I got sacked.

I won 0 game drew 3 and lost 19 with 16 goals scored and 80 conceeded.

How I didn't get sacked before this I will never know.

Worst defeat was 2-9 to Manchester City. Also lost 1-7 to Arsenal.

06-09-18, 01:10 PM
this challenge still open?? Fancy doing something different before the new update comes out...

06-09-18, 02:03 PM
yeah go for it

06-09-18, 03:26 PM
Yeah there's no closing date for any of the challenges mate.

07-09-18, 04:02 PM
righty so - 10 games in w4 d1 l5. after a very shaky start with a 3-0 loss away to Watford followed by a 1-0 loss at home to palace I soon realised "attack" wasn't going to fit my set up. For some reason says my screengrab isn't in a valid format but will figure it out to post some screenshots. Transfer window came and went decided not to sign any players.

with some tweaks I've gone on to the 3rd round of EFL and have beaten Sthmton (H), Everton (A) and Bmouth (H) with a 3-1 loss to Man U in between.

I've gone with a 3-3-2-1-1 set up with wing backs, a DMC, 2 MCs, 1 AM 1FC and of course 3 DCs

Keeping figures crossed to stay away from the injury plight the others have experienced!

12-09-18, 08:44 AM
What a bloody difficult challenge! After such a positive start my next run of 7 fixtures included citeh, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and pool - all of which we got battered in! In the mean time I lost Lossl and Hadergjonaj... there was simply no bouncebackabilty and after the morale thrashing results away losses to West Brom and Stoke, a top 10 finish was not going to be possible so I decided not to prolong the inevitable! I might have another go at this in the coming weeks - I think transfers are required its just balancing out how many...

12-09-18, 12:55 PM
It is a beast of a challenge

12-09-18, 10:37 PM
I may jump on this one however it means needing to re download another version of CM0102 the list just keeps growing.

20-12-18, 04:56 PM
As a Huddersfield fan I'm going to try this one but I'm going to use the new update so it will just be for my own amusement. Arguably more challenging as the squad is worse. I'm hoping my strikers score more in the game than in reality. So far this season 0 goals from a forward. My biggest hopes in reality are to overhaul derbys 12 points and maybe avoid bottom.

Is there a reason behind 3 defenders? As we play 4231 as often as 3511

Anyway wish me luck

At the time lots of teams were moving to a back three so we thought we'd include it in the challenge as well.

20-12-18, 05:34 PM
I prefer a back 3 anyway as the wingers are dire was just curious

Had a few tries at this, it was a bit of a struggle. The squad has very little strength in depth and you can also lose Lossl and Hadergjonaj which is out of your control. Luckily in this save nobody bought Hadergjonaj but Lossl left in January and Rob Green had to step up.

I opted not to sign anyone because I didn't think it was worth the penalty.

In the EFL cup we got a thrashing from Spurs in the 4th round and in the FA cup I played a weakened team away to Arsenal in the 3rd round because I just wanted to stay up and I didn't need any more injuries and suspensions. So no points there.

No manager awards although I thought I was a bit unlucky not to get MOTM in September.

Probably the only time I will be happy to get a minus score on a challenge :D

After 3 bad tries, finished this with a solid final score!!!

Third time is a charm. Good job mate. :)

23-02-20, 02:45 PM
I think this may have been my favourite challenge so far, admittedly I had to start again once I realised how bad Huddersfield were. I thought the key to point scoring would be no signings but turns out signing a good spine to the team worked much better (and playing a very strange looking nww formation, within the rules)

5th place = 600 pts
Manager of Month awards (2) = 200 pts
Signings (4) = -400 pts
Goals (63 scored, 40 conceded) = 23 pts

I've got to to ask... how on earth did you get 10m for both Kachunga and Depoitre?? lol

My finances are set as £2 and then currency rate as 2.5 on nicks patcher so if you haven’t changed anything imagine that being 3 or 4m. Basically I transfer listed my whole squad took the best offers to get some cash in and then in transfer listed everyone else when I got a decent spine to my team. Plus Chinese teams are rich and stupid so can usually squeeze a bit extra out of them

ahh ok - is nicks patcher ok to use for all challenges in that case?

I think they specify if it's not. I literally used it to change the start year, the game speed, the screen resolution and made the finances more modern

I'm think the finance change messes with the logic of the game a bit in terms of transfers but i could be wrong lol

It's the same principal it just makes it look more realistic. The transfers fees, wages, club finances, competition money etc. all are multiplied by the same amount so essentially everything is the same

See I tried it first with no transfers and did awful, it loses points but I think you have to buy players to do any good, still not the worst score in the table!
