Started a game with the original database and on the look out for a good solid Defensive Midfielder for my Hartlepool United side.

Obvious things I am looking for is

Passing, Strength and Tackling

Just wondering what else people look for to get that ideal DMC?

This is from some official guide or other

Defensive Midfield
These defensive players represent the engine room of your midfield and the anchormen that hold the side together. Attacking sides may look to play without these players, but lower division teams and those looking to break down the flair and creativity of the opposition will look for these guys to toughen things up in midfield.

Vital Skills: Tackling, Strength, Aggression, Marking, Stamina, Work Rate, Teamwork

Desirable Skills: Determination, Passing, Pace, Acceleration

I like my DMC's to have high Flair too, always seem to create more even though its not on the list!

To me:

Key: determination, positioning (and natural fitness, but it is hidden)

Some of these should be high:
jumping, strength, stamina, passing, tackling (roughly in this order)

What I look for

1. Positioning
2. Tackling
3. Heading/Jumping
4. Passing

Stamina 14 or higher.

Positioning, positioning and positioning. If they're bad at this it doesn't matter what other stats they've got.

I think it all depends on what you want your DMC to do. When you have 2 or even 3 DC`s, your DMC will have a lot of his potential tackles `stolen` by these DC`s. With only 1 DC this will be very different. If you just want high avr a DMC can live without high positioning imo, passing/decisions and technique/teamwork will be more important then. Stamina and nat. fitness are important for any position.

from ODB:

DMC = Patrick Vieira = Edgar Davids = Van Bommel

pace, work rate

determination is so overrated... for a fellow with an average of 5 for all attributes a 20 for determination will be fecking awesome, when the average rises it doesn't really matter imo (which is correct).

I always look for positioning, tackling and marking

Lassana Diarra on the last few updates has been a beast as my lone DMC for every team I've bought him for.... not flashy but easily an 8+ avg rating and 5 or so tackles per game (on average)

I must admit, I don't even pay that much attention to the stats a lot of the time, I tend to go by average ratings a lot, which is a risky move, but it works sometimes, and I have seen players a few times completely defy their stats by playing brilliantly (in particular, Mame Biram Diouf, who scored a shit-load of goals with relatively very poor stats).

A lot could be to do with the quality of the players supplying passes and crosses and age old 'problem' of a lone striker. If that's with 2 up front that's sick

Can anybody tell me what the value is of high scores for Anchor, Support and/or Free Role in player positions?

Thanks!

(I think Anchor combined with Midfielder/Centre means Defensive Midfielder Center)

(the other two I have no idea)

I guess he is asking for the best attributes that would go with each role? Similarly the best player position (so D/MC for Anchor maybe?)

You mean this, right?

Perhaps. Maybe the key attributes for each position for him to be excellent as well. Who knows. Only samsami does.

Sorry for the delay!

In the pre-data editor you'll find the screen I was referring to: 20 for support and 20 for free role (in this case) what does that say about a player?

Also, with midfielder=1 should Sánchez alway play as forward; never as winger?

http://s6.postimg.org/g2ra43uc1/Roles.png (http://postimage.org/)

And with Sánchez having only 18 for attacker and 20 for support what does that say about the position he should play in?

Anchor = Defensive Midfield and Support = Attacking Midfielder as per cm0102ed.exe. Looks like someone has just renamed them when writing the code for that editor you are using.

Thank you, sir! That is helpful!

Now what about wingers then? Should they simply be attacking midfielder L/R? So high score for support?

These threads are fairly in depth on best attributes for AMC and Wingers http://champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1598 http://champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1748

I've been researching and noticed people saying the DMC position is the most overpowered in the game. So my questions would be, is this correct? And if so why is this?
