I've just purchased a brand new laptop with lots of memory but can't run my CM01/02 because it says there's not enough memory and I should free up some memory.

I know this is obviously not the case so I have carefully followed the instructions in the FAQs section including Downloading ACT5.0 and trying to disable the memory check but it still won't work.

I'm hugely frustrated because like many of you I've loved this game for over a decade now and can't get started. Can anybody help please?

Disabled UAC and run as Administrator can sometimes get around the issue.

Hi, found the forum just today after trying unsuccessfully to play Champ Man on a second hand Windows XP laptop. (Previous laptop on which everything was hunky dory had died). With replacement laptop, main disc installs data and I get to the 'start game' point. But when I select quick start, a message
comes up saying 'we' don't have enough 'system memory'. Then later, I read about a 'patch' download to solve this lack of system memory problem......... but a search for the patch turned up message saying 'file not found'.
So....... have any of you guys and girls had this problem ??? And how can it be fixed by me, the original
'old git' technophobe ????? All I want is to get back to playing Champ Man 01/02 and previous 98/99
when I'm able to find a copy.
Anyone able to assist with a solution to this lack of 'system memory' malarky, please?

Best regards, Phil, Cardiff.

Trying again.

Hi all.......

I have a problem getting into the Champ. Man. game from the menu (Quickstart game etc).
Backgrou nd is my old, reliable laptop broke down and I replaced it with another identical model (is
windowsXP). I rebooted the game using the CM disc. got through to the menu page to use quick start game.
Instead of getting into the club selection page, I have been getting a message saying it can't play
because the 'puter does not have enough 'memory' to run the game. Yet my missus checked and found
there was plenty of memory. So it's a quandary, and I wondered A) has anyone else had this
problem?.... and B) can anyone provide a solution, please.

Any info/advice is welcome on my e-mail address..... taithdavies@hotmail.com.

Here's hoping... best wishes all.

Phil D., Cardiff.

When I try to start a new game I get an error message saying "Not enough available memory. Please free up some space and try again."

Given that I have umpteen GB of of free memory, I'm guessing this may be a compatibility issue or something?

Can someone help?

Sometimes system does not support some gaming applications as well as other software. This is the most common in new systems as these are not so compatible with all type of applications. If you want to solve this problem then you can take help from any technical company.

This is the best solution:

Another solution (originally posted by Tapani), You are supposed to be able to disable memory checking by passing either "nomemcheck" or "-dontcheckram" as command line arguments.

This involves right clicking on your CM shortcut icon, selecting properties and adding the text like this.....

Hello

I have started an ambitious attempt at setting up an 87/88 db using the Wasano editor (only using the 3.9.60 version of the game). I've been doing it on and off over the last couple of days and haven't had any issues. Done about half of the Premier League. However, today when I try to load up the game I'm getting the not enough memory to start a game message. I'm actually deleting loads of players as I go through which hasn't shown up an issue.

By changing the compatability to Windows 98/Me I can start the game but all of the editing I've done has disappeared.

Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

Got a season into my game on my new laptop and encountered this not enough memory problem. I'm using Windows 8. I decided to see if running as administrator would be a quick fix, but when I went back into the game, my saved game had disappeared.

Is there any chance that I will get it back (maybe in a hidden folder?) or does running as administrator automatically wipe the memory? I am now going to use the tutorial to try and make the game work, but I fear it's too late for my League One and Vans Trophy double-winning Stoke game!

This is a problem with hard drive allocation not system memory (as in RAM problem :P).

Your save data is corrupted or it's trying to save on bad sectors. As CM didn't have any sort of damage prevention (as in, programs nowadays tend to NOT write on unstable disk sectors) the save can be toast.

miaoumix
28-11-14, 09:54 AM
Thanks for the answer info0

Can you explain me your last expression "the save can be toast" i don't understand the meaning.

I had the problem after using CM Explorer.

Is my save dead or is there a chance to recover or repair it ?

info0
28-11-14, 12:09 PM
You have your answer to what I meant by "save is toast." ;)

Yeah, it's most likely corrupted and unrecoverable. It's not wise to use CM Explorer. Much better to use GK Editor (also in Downloads section).

After the ridiculously awesome info I got from here to get CM running on my 8.1 machine, a mate has asked me to get it running on his laptop. He's getting the' not enough memory error', so rather than asking the same question and annoying people I did actually read through the tech stuff till I found the solution using the ACT5 solution.

The guide is great, I followed it step by step and got SO close, it all went well until I tried to run the file I created with the program and the computer didn't recognise the file as anything it could run? Any suggestions? It's a windows xp machine with limited service packs (service pack 5 is about the best and it won't let me install 3)

They don't exist in XP so you can skip those bits. You only need to create the database once like in the video, should be ok every time then.

1. When I try to play the game I get the message:

Can anyone advise me what to do?
2. I want to add the Apr 2015 update but every time I click on it, it just times out and says page cannot be loaded - is there a known problem with this?
Any help greatly appreciated as I am so close but not actually able to play it!

Hello all,

I just signed up here after downloading 01/02 after several years not playing.

However, I have an issue with the storage capacity. I try to save my file but it says I do not have enough space to save it.
I checked my computer, and I have several GB left, so I assume it is something else. I have only played a couple of months with 7 leagues, so that should nto be the problem.

Anyone experienced the same problem?

Hi There,

I've followed all the threads succesfully, completed 1 season in a network game with two friends. Just as we're nearing the second season however the host machine gets the dreaded message:

there is not enough system memory, and to free some memory space.

Our thoughts were, lets exit as we had auto saves on weekly. However when we go to load, the save file no longer exists!!! This equals 3 grown men nearly in tears last night!

Is there any hope? PLEASE tell me there is!

WIlling to pay good money for a solution! Hahaha!

Can't say I've ever played a network game myself but are you saying the game no longer sees the save game file?

Is it looking in correct place? Maybe try copying save game to a different area (e.g desktop) and choose to search for the gam from there?

Hey guys,

I just wanted to start by saying I've checked the stickied post about the system memory error when trying to start a new game and even tried to do the things indicated there, but nothing I can find has helped. I can't even get as far as starting a new game. The weirdest part is, I was playing the game a couple of hours ago.

I had updated to 3.9.68, but wanted to go back to 3.9.60 for a certain Portuguese footballer who doesn't exist lol. I initially just re-downloaded the 3.9.60 database, but I must have done something wrong because I got an error when trying to start my new game. No biggie, I figured, I'd just re-install the game quickly.

I un-installed CM 01/02, but when I tried to re-install it I got the error message "Insufficient memory to run setup", something about closing applications and creating more memory, and the error code 111. Needless to say, I have more than enough space on my computer for this game.

I've since deleted literally every trace of CM from my machine, re-downloaded the ISO file, and the same thing has happened. I'm stumped. I've explored the ISO file and set literally every executable to run as administrator, still nothing. Can any one help me please ?! :(

I have searched for the save game filename on windows10 search .. no result.
i tried to find if there is hidden folder in cm 01 02 folder. (i clicked on view and checked hidden folder checkbox) there is no hidden folder..

Hi guys,

I seem to be having the same sort of problem.

I installed CM01/02 on my new desktop (windows10) the other day (from the original cd!) and encountered no problems until mid-way through season 2, when I got the error message -

"There is not enough available system memory to continue the game. Please free up some more and try again."

I tried to save my game, and got the error message -

"There is not enough available system memory to save the game. Please free up some more and try again."

This surprised me, as my eight year-old laptop, which was also Windows 10, ran this same version of CM01/02 absolutely fine for over a dozen seasons...... until I dropped the laptop and it stopped running anything at all *LOL*

So, I hunted around online, and found the thread which mentioned creating a new database through the The Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit, so I downloaded it, follwed the instructions on the thread, and it worked!

Until a couple of hours later when I started getting the same error messages again. Unfortunately, repeating the previous trick and creating a second new database hasn't made any difference, I'm still getting the same error messages.

Does anyone know how I can get past this?

Hi Guys

I've been playing CM 01/02 on Mac via Play On Mac. It's been working fine up until now. Everytime i try and save the game i get the error message: 'There is not enough free disk space on Drive C: to save the game. Please free up some more and try again'

I really don't want to lose my saved game and I can't seem to find any solution for this for playing it on Mac/Play On Mac. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Running game as administrator?

Looked at the solutions in this thread?

If still no joy, maybe ask fellow MAC users on the MAC thread in Tech Support :ok:

Tried other solutions in this thread?

Could be worth an uninstalla and re-install

When doing that, load the game as original and see if it works, then with 3.9.68 and see if it works, then with any data update etc

Depedning on what has been cjopped and changed a re-install is always a decent option

Well, short update to anyone watching my video. It's not longer relevant as Microsoft deleted ACT (Application Compatibility Toolkit) from their website and its now integrated into core system files (to put it simply, Windows XP/7 users are screwed over, Windows 8+ users, should be fine and should run the game hassle free without doing anything).

So yeah. Here is the update on that :(.

Shocking to anyone that Microsoft screwed people over? ;)

Same has just happened to me, looks like we have lost the game.

Anyone know if its an issue that will continue or just a one off error on savegame??

Try moving the save game to a different folder e.g desktop

Then load the game and change the path (to find the save game) to point to desktop (or whereevr saved)

Does it load then?

Ensure you are running as adminisrator as well

No.
Previously i had created a folder called 'save' and the saved game was there. Now i've put it back on the main
directory but it gives me the same error.

Running as administrator and disabled the uac as well but...nothing

Let me just add that it says: ...cpp 9090 (load_game_data) : unable to unpack the temporary files)
CM as been unable to write data to disk, reasons to this could be: 1) lack of disk space 2)file locked by the sistem 3)bad sectors on disk being writen to

could anyone help?

Make sure you have "save safely" checked

Might be worth making back up save with a different save game name as well just in case :ok:
