View Full Version : The greatest story ever of Galway United FC and Whiskey McSheepherder - by swedishcmgod

"Fucking hell, it was all a dream. Jesus christ, what time is it? FUCK FUCK FUCK, I'M LATE."

Whiskey picked up the only clothes that were visible and ran to the door. He started dressing himself while driving which was harder than he had imagined, he thought it saved him time, but it really didn't. Whilst driving, he thought about the dream he had had, about his future in Galway. Dreams always end when the best part comes, and that was the exact thing that happened to Whiskey. It was his first day as a manager of Galway United FC.

Could he learn something from the dream? Perhaps, but that wasn't so important at the moment. The important thing was,

The season started off alright with 2 straight wins in the league, I knew that it was only luck though since our team really sucked. Jonathan Keane who was a class player in my dream was shit in real life, I mean he was absolute crap. I cannot stress that enough, he's worthless. Tomasz Gruszka, my main goalie, is doing a great job between the posts - my only worry is that he's 36 and the only backup goalie I have is a 40-year old welsh by the name of Wayne Phillips who I brought to the team on a free transfer.

I'm trying my best to get rid of some valuable players, the club needs the money both for stability and new transfers. I reckon 100K can give me an additional 2-3 players, so every pound counts. The only sold player I've sold is Ciaran Foley, I sold him to Llanelli for 110K which was a great deal for us. Ciaran wasn't getting any younger and shouldn't be spectacular on the pitch in any way - he's playing like shite in Llanelli too.

I'm also trying to get rid of Neal Keane, Joseph Yoffe (who could bring in around 300K) and Bobby Ryan (still worth a lot of money although he's 32). These players are good, don't get me wrong, it's just that they are worth too much money for me not to take advantage of it by selling them. I've brought in 5 new players:
- Wayne Phillips who I mentioned before
- Andreas Kohlhaas, a 24-year old DC who is a player and a coach (yeah I know, 24 years old!)
- Michael Byrne, a decent irish youngster
- Robbie Crawford, a promising attacking midfielder
- Brendan Collins, a youngster who I mainly signed to have a small stack of backup players.

After 6 games we're currently 7th in the league, which is a decent result for us. Mr. McCormick wants us to avoid relegation and if we keep on like this, we certainly will. Monaghan Utd are playing like sheep this season with 0 points after 5 games, so it's good to know that we have a punching bag. Unfortunately my transfer listed players and Tomasz Gruszka are the most prominent players this far, I have a big job to do in finding replacements for them.

It's indeed noticeable that the team isn't very good at the moment, we're having a hard time controlling matches - instead we fall back and wait for chances to counter, which is our best chance in these games according to me. We need that playmaker and that cornerstone in the defence to make sure that we can make our own plays in these important games.

If the league would end right now, we would be relegated, but we have only played 14 games in the league, so I'm not too worried about this at the moment.

I managed to sell Paddy Doyle, a worthless 36-year old striker, to Cobh Ramblers for 10K. That's one more wage Mr. McCormick won't have to pay. Speaking of Mr. McCormick, they gave the club an additional 400K so our finances are now in tip-top shape. Actually, if we don't buy or sell any players we're still going positive every month, it's just going to slow for my taste.

I've signed two contracts with players that will join us in the summer (their contracts expire in the summer):
- Darren Forsyth, a decent striker from Shelbourne.
- Stephen Conlon, a goalkeeper from Longford town, nothing special about him really.

Other than that, I signed goalkeeper Austin O'Neill from Cobh Ramblers for 35K. He will take reserve keepers place on the bench, replacing Wayne Phillips there. Hopefully Niall Flynn from Monaghan Utd, a right defender will come to us this week for only 30K. I know I don't need any right or left defenders since I use 3 DCs in my 3-5-2 formation, but this kid has got potential in him.

On the 20th January an offer of 160K for Alan Murphy was made, I couldn't say no to this so Alan packed his bag and moved to Plymouth. Out of nowhere, Joseph Yoffe suddenly had an expiring contract. I had had a 300K deal on him which fell through when Colorado couldn't have any other foreigners in their squad. Yoffe, who was pissed off at me to say the least, decided to go on a bosman to Sligo Rovers, MADDAFAKKER. What I need is not stronger domestic teams, I need them weaker. Anyhow, for the money from the Murphy-deal I bought:
- Glenn Evans from welsh team Guilsfield for 9K. He is a decent DC.
- Ian Gerie, a 35-year old welsh midfielder from Bryntirion Athletic. I paid 1K for him.
- 28-year old Graham Gartland from St. Johnstone, a true Irish DC. I only paid 30K for him, so he was definitely my best signing.
- Kris Thomas, a 29-year old defender/defensive midfielder who I signed on a free transfer.

1 month earlier I had also signed:
- Ceri James on a free transfer. He is a defensive midfielder, a welsh, and mainly a backup player for me.
- Daniel Clinton from Tralee dynamos, he is a promising left midfielder who I only paid 5K for.

Tom James, who I had loaned from Watford, was leaving us since the loan was over. He also left Watford a week later, but I am not interested in signing him.

Our form was all over the place, putting in good performances one day and shitty ones the next day. With a new defence and a partially new midfield I'm hoping we can turn things around.

Well, I think that was it. FUCKING SHIT. Gruszka has been on the bottle and did his worst two performances in two consecutive games. Fucking shit, it doesn't look good for us. Thank you Kris Thomas for getting sent off too, that was real fucking necessary you fucking cunt!!!!! Four straight losses, 3 games left, 8 points up to playoffs. Jesus bloody christ. Then you might think that that is enough, but no, three key midfielders are also injured. THANK YOU GOD!!

I'm not gonna focus on the negative aspects, there are one million of those. Instead, I'm going to focus on how to resolve this fucking problem. I've been busy this summer, busy every single day, searching for players and analysing my team. This is what I decided to do.

New players:
- Stephen Conlon from Longford Town. Bosman deal. Backup goalkeeper.
- Darren Forsyth from Shelbourne. Bosman deal. Backup striker.
- Dwayne Wilson from Waterford United. Cost 45K. Attacking midfielder left, will definitely be playing from start.
- Dean Barrett from Bray Wanderers. Bosman deal. Backup striker.
- Paul McCarthy from Tramore. Cost 12K. Decent midfielder.
- Jacob Erskine from Hayes & Yeading. Cost 14K. Will play next to Neal Keane, thus replacing Yoffe.
- Eugene Greaney from Salthill Devon. Cost 16K after the deal with Exeter fell through. Huge talent, will play from start.
- Paul Jones from Peterborough. Bosman deal. First goalkeeper, will push cocksucker Gruszka out of the squad.
- Gareth Owen from a free transfer. Will play from start, DC/coach.

- John Brennan (finally, at the age of 43).
- Bobby Ryan (fucking shit, only 32 years old).
- Wayne Phillips (finally, at the age of 41).

Lets get busy.

4 games into the season and we are still unbeaten, 3 wins and 1 draw. In other words, we are well on our way to gain promotion.

My 4 new scouts have been busy these last two weeks. Gary Cowie, Jim Scott, Kevin O'Rourke and Steven Clark have all found some gems for me, a couple of those gems were signed:
- Sean Mcllroy, 19-year old Northern Irish DC.
- Jake Osborne, 19-year old English striker.
- Tony McCabe, 18-year old Irish M/FRC
- Martin Forde, 17-year old Irish MC.

After 5 games unbeaten we finally lost our first game of the season against Waterford Utd. Don't get me wrong, we dominated this game, but we just couldn't score. It also didn't help when Dwayne Wilson got sent off in the 56th minute, or when Gareth Owen got sent off in the 67th minute and giving Waterford a penalty. I tried to change the formation to encourage attacking plays, but we were down 3-0 when the whistle blew for the last time. Bad timing fellas, bad timing. Now Waterford took the 2nd place behind Shelbourne, fucking whores.

27-04-12, 01:02 PM
The scouting continued and we signed a couple of new interesting youngsters, the most interesting of the bunch was clearly Ryan Houston, a 19-year old Northern Irish striker. He was gold for us, and a lot of players in the squad were too. It was actually easier to say who hadn't been performing very well than who had been outstanding. Tony McCabe and Mark Murray, two talented youngsters, were not at all performing as well as I had thought they would. When I see this two in training, they are spectacular, but out on the field - not so much. Glenn Evans had been decent, and that was that. The rest of them had been truly amazing out on the pitch, especially Erskine, Greaney, Wilson, Forsyth, McCarthy and Gearie.

I also got rid of some extra weight:
- Ian Rossiter to Belgrove for 30K.
- Paul Sinnott to Colchester for 40K.
- Laurence Gaughan to Tritium for 65K.
- Jonathan Keane to Mervue Utd for 26K.
- Neal Keane to Epinal for 140K (I knew he wouldn't perform well in the premier division and for 140K, I didn't want to try it again).
- Graham Gartland to Bray Wanderers for 55K (I sold him because he was getting old, didn't perform particularly well and I got a fairly good offer for him).
- Dean Barrett to Derry City in the summer.

Chris Deans, a defender from Longford Town was also joining us in the summer.

We are currently 1st in the league which wasn't a very big surprise. The big surprise was that we had managed to win the Irish League Cup!
We won against Limerick away with 2-1, 6-1 against Athlone Town at home and that meant we ended 1st in Group 6.
We beat Shamrock Rovers home with 1-0 in the quarter-final, and Dundalk at home with 2-0 in the semi-final.
We were up against Sligo Rovers in the final - 1-0 at home and 1-1 away. Darren Forsyth and Sligo Rover's Aaron Greene tied for the best goalscorer with 6 goals each.

I am sure that we will get our promotion.

My god we experienced some bad fucking luck, but luckily(!) we weren't as unlucky as Shelbourne. In the 5 last games of the season we played:
- Shelbourne and lost, 3-1, after Ian Gearie getting sent off in the 13th minute. Wanker.
- Mervue Utd, we lost 4-3. In the 77th minute we score 3-1 and it seems like it's going to be our win, but then they score in the 79th, 86th and 90th minute when Evans is disabled or fucking something on the pitch.
- Salthill Devon, we lost after dominating the game but not managing to score, O'Reilly scores for them in the 90th minute.
- Waterford and Monaghan, both 3-0 wins for us.

Same points as Shelbourne, better goal difference! Fucking ey, we're back http://champman0102.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

We managed to reach the semi-finals in the Senior Challenge Cup but unfortunately lost against Dundalk 2-3 in a very tight game.

Some things I've been thinking about for the next season:
- Getting rid of Paul Jones, the goalkeeper. He's not very good with the other lads in the squad and he hasn't been so outstanding as I thought he would be, however, he should bring in a decent sum.
- Bring in a new playmaker. Gearie is 36 which means he was there when Jesus died - seriously, 36-years old, I need to find his replacement.
- Bring in a defender who is skilled in the air.
- Get rid of some deadweight in the squad.
- Get my hands on some proper Irish players, hopefully a homecomer.

A new season was about to begin and I was happy with all the transfers that I had arranged during the summer, I was actually extremely fucking pleased since the team I had signed could compete for the title, no fucking joke there. Since our wage structure wasn't really good enough to attract homecomers, I had to give 'em a big fecking sign-on bonus, at least 250K I thought. The actual numbers turned out to be more around 250K-400K, so when all transfers had gone through Mr. McCormick was really pissed off with me, I mean he was absolutely furious. I couldn't blame him really, our finances were crap. -1.1 million in balance, for an economist like myself and a company of this size, it was ridiculous. Let's just say I couldn't contain myself, if we want to get out in the European cups, it must cost us at some point. Now was that point. To raise the money (actually around 40 % of what was actually necessary) I sold:
- Stephen Conlon to Metropolitan Police for 14K.
- Dean Barrett to Derry City for 65K, I knew he didn't have it in him to play in the premier division.
- Jacob Erskine to Shamrock Rovers for 300K. Sure, he was good, but I could easily find better, and for 300K I would sell my mother.
- Austin O'Neill to Aberystwyth Town for 18K.
- Darren Forsyth to Ross County for 110K, a great deal for a decent player.
- Paul Jones to Exeter for 170K, as I've said before, he's not a team player.
- Daniel Clinton to Luton for 75K. 75K for that piece of shit? Haha, winning!
- Stephen Walsh to Blokhus FC for 95K, easy decision with such a great offer.
- Jake Osborne to Forest Green for 110K. He was promising, sure, but he would never get anywhere. He resembled Erskine a little bit, actually.
- Paul McCarthy to Yeovil for 170K.
- Enda Curran to Dumbarton for 30K, he wasn't developing at all.

I brought in:
- Chris Deans, DLC from Longford Town on a bosman deal.
- Joey O'Brien, D/DMRC, capped 3 times for Ireland. Free transfer. Previously in West Ham
- Simon Cox, FRC, capped 14 times for Ireland. Free transfer. Previously in West Bromwich.
- Conan Byrne, FRC. Free transfer. Previously in Shelbourne.
- Dave Ryan, goalkeeper from Dundalk. Cost 35K. Probably my number 1.
- Brian Collopy, goalkeeper from St. Pat's, cost 24K.
- Jake Kelly, AM/FLC, from Bray Wanderers. Cost 130K, talented 23-year old.
- Stuart Findlay, D/DMR, promising youngster. Free agent.
- Stephen Gleeson, MC, capped 2 times for Ireland. Free transfer. Previously in MK Dons.
- Jeff Hendrick, MC, plays for Ireland's U-21 team. Free transfer. Previously in Derby.
- James Collins, ST, plays for Ireland's U-21 team. Free transfer. Previously in Shrewsbury.
- Dave Mooney, ST. Free transfer. Previously in Leyton Orient.
- Dónal McDermott, FLC, has played for Ireland's U-21 team. Only 23 years old. Free transfer. Previously in Huddersfield. This is the guy from the dream, when I heard he was available for transfer I immediately sent him an offer. He refused first but caved in when I offered 300K as a sign-on bonus.
- Richard Keogh, DRC. Free transfer. Previously in Coventry. This guy looks smashing during training, hopefully he will be our Maldini.
- Shaun Williams, D/DMC. Free transfer. Previously in MK Dons.
- Michael Spillane, D/DMRC. Free transfer. Previously in Brentford.

I now had 45 players in my squad, which was good enough.

And the best part was that apart from Stuart Findlay, all my signings were Irish!

We had a fairly good start to the season but I could tell that the lads needed some time to get to know each other on the pitch. Although we had a superb offence with Cox, McDermott and the other boys we didn't score particularly many goals. 22 goals in 13 league games wasn't enough in my opinion, these boys could easily be up to 30 goals by this stage. When it came to our defence I was much more satisfied, 14 conceded in 13 games was a good performance. I gave most of the credit to goalkeeper Carl Donnelly who I loaned from St. Johnstone, he had been great between the posts with 9 games and 11 conceded. The keeper that took his place though, youngster Mark Whelan, did even better with 7 games and 7 conceded.

Jake Kelly and Dwayne Wilson had been the biggest surprises on the midfield, Dwayne easily managed the step up to the premier division while Jake Kelly played the best football of his life as an attacking midfielder.

Our 4-0 win against Bohemians with Kelly and McDermott scoring two goals each is by far our best game this season. Second best game is probably the 3-1 win away against Dundalk, we had total control over 90 minutes in this one.

I've promised the lads that we'll go out drinking on my expense if we go through to the semi-final in the league cup. We got Shamrock away in the quarter-final, so that's definitely going to be a difficult game.

Good thing that we didn't win against Shamrock, McDermott and McCabe would have ruined me down at the pub. We normally hang out during the evening on fridays, at a place called "Galway's Herd". At least 10 of the lads are always there, and the rest appears there every now and then. I maybe join them once a month, I have a personal life too. Actually, I've just met this blonde bombshell, but I don't how serious we are, and until we get there, I won't write it in this journal.

However, the game ended 1-0 to Shamrock after a goal by Dennehy in the 2nd minute. We pretty much controlled the rest of the game, but we had some problems getting the ball through to our strikers. 3 consecutive win in the league followed, 3-2 against Sligo Rovers, 5-2 against Bohemians and 1-0 against Shamrock. This put us up to a 2nd place in the league table, just behind Shamrock. Our win-streak ended with a 1-1 draw against Dundalk, but after that, an even better win-streak commenced. 6 straight wins from the 5th December until the 11th January, and this streak yet hasn't been broken. The results were 2-0 against St. Pat's, 2-0 against Drogheda, 4-2 against UCD, 3-0 against Shelbourne, 4-0 against Derry City and 4-0 against St. James's gate in the senior challenge cup. Sligo Rovers are up next on the 17th.

I sold youngster Stephen Murray to Shelbourne since I didn't think he would ever get a starting place in our squad. He was 20 and hadn't improved at all during his two years with us, so I decided to let him leave. Michael Spillane, who I signed on a free transfer along with the rest of the super-Irish was also sold to Shamrock Rovers for £700.000!!!!!! It was his minimum fee release clause, but nobody was interested in him before I told the media that he had been placed on our transfer list. I was hoping that Fortuna Düsseldorf, who were also bidding on him, would get his signature - I didn't want him to go to Shamrock. The 700K made it a little easier.

We are currently number 1 in the league, with Shamrock right behind us.

"We are number one - we came in number one and the rest of you, well you can suck our cocks!
We are number one - we came in number one and the rest of you, well you can suck our cocks!
If you don't have the balls, don't bother cause you'll fail
If you don't have balls, don't bother cause you'll fail
don't you ever come and mess, don't you ever come and mess, don't you ever come and mess with the GALWAY LADS"

I remember the lyrics of this song, but I have no idea of what the celebrations were like. I was hung over for a week after we had won the gold, the lads just went crazy that epic night.

It was a tight race, Shamrock were right behind us all the time - at some point we had 7 points down to them but our nerves and goalscoring put an end to that. It all came down to the last round. We lost our game against St. Pat's, but Shamrock lost their game too against UCD (they had been an utter nightmare against the better teams of the division). This actually turned out better than my dream, which was all such a fucking miracle. I want to thank Simon Cox, Dwayne Wilson and Jake Kelly (best season of his career) for the gold, they have been absolutely outstanding.

To make sure that I would have the necessary funds to build an even greater team during the summer I sold Conan Byrne to Newport for 675K, which was a great offer. He had been worthless off the bench and he was turning 29 in the summer, I had no need of him in the squad. Instead I signed free agents:
- Striker Leon Best, 27-year old Irish who has been capped 15 times and scored 3 goals in the national team. His previous club was Newcastle.
- Striker Andy Keogh, 27-year old Irish who has been capped 25 times and scored 3 goals in the national team. His previous club was Wolverhampton.
- Left and right winger Jonathan Hayes, 26-year old Irish. His previous club was Inverness C.T
- Robert Pearson, 20-year old English talent.
- Right winger Jimmy Ryan, 25-year old Irish who's previous club was Scunthorpe.

With some more transfers during summer, we'll hopefully have a team ready for Europe.

Over the last two months I have developed an extremely sensitive bladder. Don’t get me wrong; times have been FUCKING AWESOME, it’s all just happening so fucking fast.
Although we finished on the same points as Sligo Rovers in the Super Cup, they still finished 1st because they beat us during the tournament. I wasn’t too upset though, I really don’t give a fuck about the Super Cup. We had two great games against Shamrock (3-0) and UCD (5-1), so I was looking forward to the rest of the season.
We didn’t do so well in the league for the first 3 games. First Dave Ryan thought that it was a good idea to get sent off in the 2nd minute in the first league game of the season. Shelbourne eventually won with 4-1 on our home ground, a fucking disgrace! Both teams had 12 shots, but somehow we couldn’t score more than once. That inefficiency followed us to our next game against MOTHERFUCKING Cork City. 2-1 loss on their home ground, we had 14 (!) shots in that game. Then we finally won our first league game for the season against UCD with 3-0 on our grounds, I hope that we can take the positives from that game with us in our next league game against Sligo Rovers. I was still willing to accept our awful start in the league because of our results in the Champions League, I just didn’t want it to become a thing.
Champions League. Jesus fucking Christ.
First game was against Icelandic club Valur, we won both games – 3-1 away and 2-1 at home. Next up was Red Bull Salzburg, and I had my doubts before this one. I thought we would get sent out for sure, but the lads proved me wrong. After a red card in the 16th minute for Salzburg Kelly scored 2 goals, McDermott 1 and Greaney 1 – fucking incredible! I realised that we were pretty much through to the next round. An 8th minute goal by Cox in the away game meant that we were facing Valencia in the 3rd and last qualifying round. Gleeson scored the 1-1 equaliser in the 18th minute, then another one on a penalty followed by Cox in the 73rd minute. Valencia only had 2 shots in this game, fucking amazing. Before and during the rematch in Valencia I was so nervous I had to have a couple of drinks before the game. It didn’t help that the game was like a fucking horror movie either, 2-0 to Valencia after 15 minutes. Kelly and Hayes managed to equalize before the end of the first half, but before the first half was over there was a minute of chaos. First Piatti scored 3-2 for Valencia and then 30 seconds after Cox scored the 3-3 equaliser. I was so happy I screamed at the top of my lungs. I have no idea what I was screaming, but I certainly know why. By now I was sure we were through, I think I was anyhow. Valencia’s Jonas got sent off in the 54th minute and we played defence for the rest of the game. Soldado scored the 4-3 goal for Valencia in the 90th minute, but it didn’t matter. We were through to the group stage, and FUCK ME we got a lot of money for this! Still the best experience of the qualifying rounds was by far coaching the lads in front of 46000 spanish fucks, the face on their supporters after the whistle blew was the funniest thing I’ve seen in all my life. Inter, Leverkusen and Porto awaited us in the group stage, I had no fucking idea of what my expectations should be.

Now I forgot to comment on our transfers, I really don’t have to though, the ones we sold were shit and the ones we got in, well their names speak for themselves.

I realised quite early on in the season that we wouldn't win the title this year. Shamrock were spotless and immaculate - not much we could do. I blame the schedule for some of our failures this season, it has been tight like a thaiwhore's anus. In January we had played more games than the entire last season, this was also shown in the results. Crappy games against crappy teams, I wasn't proud at all but with CL still in my short-term memory I didn't care that much. We were new to this kind of success, everything can't go our way. I'm glad that our finances are secure and that most of the lads are happy in the club. The ones who aren't happy have just been shite on the pitch really, so they can just go fuck themselves. We were currently 3rd in the league, with same points as St. Pat's who were 4th, and 5 points up to Sligo Rovers. Shamrock was already 21 points away, just a matter of when they would be crowned champions. Our goal is to snatch the 2nd place, UEFA Cup isn't all that bad - we need the gate receipts to keep the wage structure in place too, so I will have to let the lads play their hearts out. We were still in both cups, 3rd round in the senior challenge cup and final in the league cup. It would be nice to win one of those so that I can add another trophy to my collection.

We didn't really have a chance in CL, 1 point, 2 goals and 11 conceded. I'm just glad that we didn't embarass ourselves with a 5-0 defeat or something. Losing 3-0 against Inter on San Siro isn't that bad. Also, I'm absolutely DELIGHTED that we drew Leverkusen and got them sent out too, fucking germans.

A couple of transfers might mentioning:
- Dave Ryan to Enyimba (whiny pussy)
- Brian Shorthall from St. Pat's for 160K, a great defender!
- Johnny Flynn from Dundalk for 200K, mainly backup but if we ever start using a left defender, he's our man.

Well that didn't turn out too bad!

The lads and I celebrated again once both cups were won. I remember that I felt old and just really wanted to go back home to watch "Keeping up appearances". I couldn't. We had a 20 game non-losing streak and ended Shamrock's streak of 18 non-losing games, god that felt good. Actually, we won the last 3 games against them, 2 in the league and one in the Senior Challenge Cup. Of their 3 defeats in the league, we stood for 2 of them. We came in 2nd in the league, Sligo Rovers couldn't come close to matching our consecutive 20 games without losing, so it wasn't even a close race really.

I had been thinking about re-arranging the squad some over the summer. The defence wasn't the same as last season, that was mainly because Owen was getting old and useless. I got better when I moved Joey O'Brien to a defensive midfield role, that worked out best for everyone - he got to use his playmaking skills and I could replace his slow ass in the defence. Some of the players had been complaining about their lack of playing time, the most whiney ones I simply sold - Dave Mooney and Jeff Hendrick. I had arranged a new policy for transfers which basically meant that I wouldn't sell my homecomers to domestic teams, never. I want to keep this league retarded and underdeveloped.

To fuck with Shamrock I will try and sign some of their best players, well see how that goes. I just want their stupid harmony to fuck off and introduce them to the real world.

For the next season I will try and have some backup-players that can really take the pressure both in the league and in the european cups.

I also have to mention some of our best players this season.
- Simon Cox, plenty of goals and assists - handles the role as an only striker extremely well.
- Jake Kelly, scores like a striker and makes assists like a midfielder - he's awesome. 61 (!!!!!!) games this season.
- Darron Gibson, works great as an attacking midfielder, lots of goals and assists.
- Stephen Gleeson, same as Gibson.

All the above players stats from this season are absolutely insane.

We got a much better start to the season than last year with 4 wins and 1 draw in the first 5 league games. It feels as if I've finally put the puzzle together with the new players and tactics. It was quite a busy summer, we had a lot of transfers coming in and only a few going out. Sold players that are worth mentioning were:
- Glenn Evans, backup-defender that no one wanted to buy, I released him on a free transfer.
- Andy Keogh, striker that didn't really get a chance in Galway, I think he played 3 games in two seasons for us. He wanted to get transfer listed which I agreed to and then I sold him for 475K to Nigerian club Enyimbaw where he would play along with Dave Ryan who I sold last season. Actually, Dave Ryan got his first two caps just last season.
- Dwayne Wilson to Stevenage for 275K. We simply had different opinions about the team. Shame to let him go, but I have replacements.
- Leon Best to St. Pauli for 875K. He wanted to move to a bigger club and I couldn't refuse the offer of 875K. Great player, but we got Simon Cox.
- Eugene Greaney to Northampton for 90K. His contract was expiring and he didn't want to stick around, I'm just glad we got some money out of it.
- Shaun Williams to St. Pat's for 450K in exchange for talented youngster Ollie Pearson. I couldn't give Shaun a place in the squad and he couldn't handle that.
Players in:
- Greg Bolger from Dundalk for 140K, he would primarily play instead of Dwayne Wilson on the left wing.
- Anthony Flood on a free transfer. I just signed him so that no one else would, he's been scoring like crazy for the Bohemians, but here, not so much.
- Richard Dunne. What can I say, he was a free agent and I offered him a lot of cash to sign with us. He will be a great role-model to the youngsters and will hopefully continue in Galway as a trainer when he's retired from football.
- Dominic hardy, 16-year old english supertalent. Has played several games from start.
- John O'Shea, same story as when I signed Dunne and for the same reasons.

We had a great run in the UEFA Cup with wins over both AEK and Rapid Wien, but it all ended at our home ground when Atletico Madrid won with 2-0. We drew 0-0 in Madrid and I thought we had a fair chance in the rematch, but unfortunately I was very wrong.

7 points behind Shamrock and 2 games less played, I reckon we have a pretty good chance of winning the league again this season. A lot of good players from Shamrock's squad have been sold, I believe they will have difficulties repeating last season's dominance.

Cox and Gleeson have been absolutely outstanding this far, too bad Gleeson is leaving on a bosman after the end of the season... I've signed a new contract with Cox though, so he'll be here for 3 more years.

As I had suspected previously, Shamrock fell like a house of cards. They didn't have the same depth in their squad; if a player got injured there were no good replacements. We had plenty of depth in our squad: Flynn, Hardy, Shorthall and Owen in the defence, Donelly, Ryan, Dicker, Doyle, McDermott and Collins in the midfield and Bracken, Flood and Houston as strikers. I did get rid of defender Kevin Long though; I can’t have 5-6 backup defenders that all need lots of playing time. Norwegian Sandefjord bought him for 450K which was a great offer; our balance was now 6.3 million positive. UCD had taken Shamrocks 2nd place just 2-3 rounds ago and were now 6 points behind us, 3 points ahead of Shamrock. Stephen Gleeson was having an awesome season, unfortunately for us he wanted to spread his wings elsewhere, in Wigan to be exact, he was joining them on a bosman deal after this season. Jake Kelly hasn’t scored or put in those assists like he has done in the previous two seasons, he has adopted more of a playmaker role in my opinion which is just fine with me. Simon Cox is having his best season yet and so is Joey O’Brien too, those guys have just been outstanding out on the pitch.
I’m a little disappointed that we fell in the quarter-final of the league cup on penalties against Sligo Rovers, but we’re still going strong in the senior challenge cup, quarter-finals against Bohemians coming up.

I woke up in one of the goals on Terryland Park wearing nothing but my underwear. I tried to stand up but realised that I was still drunk, so I went back into the goal and slept for another couple of hours. When I awoke the next time I walked to the changing rooms and tried to find some decent clothing. All I could find was Kelly’s shrunken match-shirt, but it would have to do. The changing room reaked of alcohol from last night, and the place was a mess. It got pretty wild last night, McDermott punched a glass window and bled like an antelope, Dunne hit his eye with the champagne cork and I ran around the town wearing nothing but my underwear. I made my way home, still drunk as fuck, but happy as can be. With 4 rounds left to play we were 16 points ahead of UCD, and 21 points ahead of Shamrock. Shamrock’s downfall had been worse than I could ever imagine, 9 consecutive games without winning, 5 of them were losses. UCD were no real threat, they had Graham Rusk (from the dream, yeah!) and that was it. Next season they wouldn’t even have Rusk since he’s joining US, so take that you Dublin-fuckers. There was a wager in the club on who was gonna end up with the most goals scored. Cox has 26 at the moment and Gleeson has 25. I bet on Cox just to mess with Gleeson’s head, that ungrateful little fucker.

However, we’re the fucking CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Although summer had been awesome, I wasn’t taking it easy at all. I was working day and night with my 6 skilled scouts. I wanted to make sure that we would have a decent defence once O’Shea and Dunne retired. Just as I suspected the both of them retired in the middle of July, and Gareth Owen did too. 3 key defenders were gone, just like that, and I panicked. I brought in the 17-year old French defender Jean-Pierre Brun who would probably hold a regular place in a season or two. I also got my hands on Matthew Connolly from Recreativo, I had been discussing a deal with him for over a year. Connolly started out great, taking control and showing leadership in the defence. Before these fellows arrived though we were still smashing enough to win the Irish Super Cup with our reserves team, I laughed all the way to the trophy room. The board had invested some money in the stadium, which was much needed, and we made our debut on twice-as-big Terryland Park on the 4th July with a 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers, sweet.
To my surprise we were directly qualified for the 2nd qualification round of Champions League where we would meet Belasica (Makedonia) or BATE (Belarus). Belasica won that battle and we met them at home on the 26th July in front of 5166 spectators, which was a club record. We won 1-0 at home and drew 0-0 on their home turf and I have to say, these were the most boring games I’ve witnessed in my life. Belasica played extremely defensive and it was just painful to watch – don’t get me wrong – we were in complete control of these games.
We were up against FC Bayern in the next round and I was convinced that we were doomed. I was so wrong. Collins scored the equalizer, 1-1, in München just before half-time. That was also the final result which meant we had a decent shot at beating them on Terryland. After 5 min we got awarded a penalty, there wasn’t really that much discussion around it, it was definitely the right call by the referee. Kelly was ice cold and put it in the net. 20 minutes later Rusk scored our second goal. Badstuber made it 2-1 in the 31st minute, and that was it. We were through to the Group stage of Champions League, again, fucking insane. 9972 spectators celebrated the victory with us, that was also insane.
We made another couple of signings too:
- David Meyler, 26- year old central midfielder from Sunderland, capped four times. Free agent.
- Brendan Moloney, 27-year old defender/midfielder from Nottingham Forest. Free agent.
- Declan Walker, 24-year old defender/attacking midfielder from Carlisle for 120K.
And we started the league with two straight wins, NOBODY CAN BRING US DOWN, WE’RE FUCKING GALWAY.

We played some legendary games in the Champions League, games that will mean a lot to Irish kids growing up and playing football. It was all an intense wave of success, the media coverage was extreme and the lads were playing like celtic gods. Some journalist asked me whether or not we had a chance of getting through to the second group phase, “Damn right” I told him. 2 hours after that, we had beaten Lazio with 1-0 on Terryland Park. The crowd was ecstatic and so was I. What a game we had played, I was so proud of the lads. We did just fine in the group but unfortunately we didn’t qualify to the second round, 1 more win and we would’ve been through. I guess we just need a tighter team to make it next year. Yes I wrote next year, there’s no possibility that we will end anywhere else than 1st place in the league. We haven’t lost a league game in a year, or 37 games unbeaten is another way to put it. We’re class, we’re Galway.

Unfortunately Darron Gibson decided to leave us, but I waited until we got a bid that matched his minimum fee release clause before I let him go. 1.5 million pounds, that’s some serious money to us. Darron joined Everton but is apparently not doing so well over there. Anthony Flood was also sold for a fee of 230K, it took forever before anybody could put that up on the table – Bristol Rovers finally decided to do that. We reinforced the squad with some quality youngsters, in 2-3 years some of them will probably hold regular places in the squad.

We’ve got Shamrock in the League Cup quarter-final and Maccabi Haifa in the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup, both games are going to be tricky but I trust the lads completely.

Our luck ran out against Maccabi Haifa. We lost 2-0 at Terryland Park after Hardy getting sent off in the 58th minute, both goals came after that incident. Then we lost 1-0 in Israel after a extremely poor performance by Johnny Flynn. We were out of Champions League and we were out of the UEFA Cup. Good thing was though that we were still going strong in the league. The second part of the season was not half as good as the first one, the draws started coming but we held out and never lost a game during that season. 58 games without losing in the league is a record that I am very proud over. Joey O’Brien and Simon Cox had another amazing season and I would also like to mention Mark Whelan, our goalkeeper, for his performances. 28 conceded goals in 52 games is spectacular. In the end, we finished 25 points ahead of Shamrock with our 86 points.

After finishing 2nd after Shamrock in the Irish Super Cup we had a game in the second qualifying round of Champions League against Moldovian team Zimbru Chisinau. 1-1 at home and 4-0 away meant that we were through to the third round where we will play Celtic. This is by far the easiest third round-challenger we’ve ever met, but still, Celtic is the better team on paper.
A couple of new lads came to us during the summer:
- Anthony Stokes, 29-year old Irish forward, capped 4 times and previously played for Celtic. Free agent.
- Robert Lundin, 20-year old Swedish forward from Shamrock Rovers for 45K, he’s a great talent.
- Gavin Carlin, 26-year old Irish goalkeeper from West Bromwich on a bosman deal.
- Marc Wilson, 29-year old Irish defender/defensive midfielder from West Ham on a bosman deal. Capped 31 times, his routine will be of great value to us.
- Adam Hammill, 29-year old Irish winger, capped 12 times and previously played for Portsmouth. Free agent.
- Kieran Cadogan, 26-year old Irish winger from West Ham on a bosman deal. Capped 16 times.
- Kevin Doyle, the one and only. He's old now, but still great.

Other players were released from their contracts, such as Gary Dicker, Jimmy Ryan and Michael Doyle (the youngster). Johnny Flynn went to Peterborough on a bosman deal, Richie Ryan was sold to Ipswich for 230K, Malcolm Byrne was sold to Hull for 140K and some percentage clauses, Jonathan Hayes was sold to Carlisle for 475K and Callum O'Connor was sold to UCD for 45K.

The Celtic game turned out be a little difficult, but we managed to draw away and win at home with 2-1, so I was just pleased that we once more made it to the group stage. Surely Ireland’s UEFA Coefficient should change soon after our successes in the Champions League. For the first time ever for us in the Champions League, we had a fair chance of making it to the next round. We had Shakhtar Donetsk, CSKA Moscow and Barcelona in our group. I knew we had no chance of winning against Barcelona, yet we lost both matches only with 1-0. The first 3 games of the group stage would’ve been enough to put us through to the next group stage. We won against both Shakhtar and CSKA while losing against Barcelona. In the second part of the group stage we just drew against Shakhtar and CSKA, losing again to Barcelona. Barcelona did their job to ensure our progression to the next stage; they won 5 games and drew 1 in the group. For the first time ever, we were ready for the 2nd group stage! Our opponents in that group were Arsenal, Panathinaikos and Juventus – this also seemed like a pretty fair group for us. We drew 0-0 against Panathinaikos and 2-2 against Arsenal which meant that we had a fair chance of getting through this group aswell. We would have to win against Panathinaikos if we were to have a chance, I don’t think we can really beat Juventus and Arsenal. In the end it will just be a matter of luck.

The Irish league was looking pretty competitive again with Shamrock being just behind us in the league table. After a couple of shitty games I decided it was time to change our tactics for the first time in, what can it be, 2 or 3 years maybe. We’re now using a 4-2-3-1 formation with 2 defensive central midfielders and 3 attacking central midfielders. The reason why I changed the tactic is also because we (Simon Cox) weren’t scoring as many goals as usual. I sold two of our most prominent players during the recent years, Alan Donnelly and Simon Cox. Both were just whining about their situation, wanting to go to bigger clubs and such bullshit. No Simon, I don’t believe a division 2 team (Oxford) will be playing in the Champions League the coming season – stupid piece of shit. He was getting old too and I didn’t see his usual self on the pitch, 6 goals in 20 games just isn’t good enough. I got an OK deal for him anyway, 325K is pretty good for a player of his age.

I’ve brought back two of our old players, Kevin Long and Tony McCabe from Sandefjord and Crystal Palace. Hopefully they will once again be an integral part of this team. I also bought Eddie Nolan, 29-year old Irish defender from QPR for 575K, I’m hoping that he’ll fight for a place in the defense. I also brought back old Shamrock-player Karl Sheppard from Aberdeen for 875K, he’s 26 years old at the moment. In the 6 games he has played for us this far he has scored 7 goals and put in 2 assists. Things are looking good for the future. Another great signing was Michael Lovell, a 19-year old attacking midfielder from England. We managed to sign him for free since he was a free agent; I have great hopes for this young lad. I also picked up Noel Haverty from Shelbourne for 350K, he will mainly serve as a backup.

My goal for this season is to achieve the triple, league title, league cup and senior challenge cup. We’re in the final of the League Cup where we will play St. Pat’s, so in other words, we have a good chance of bringing that one home.

Another great year came to an end, once again we had gone through to the group stages of Champions League, but this time we made it all the way to the 2nd group stage! Mr. McCormick was joking about us playing in the quarter-finals next year, or at least I hope he was joking. That’d be incredibly difficult; I reckon we need another 2-3 years before we can make it to the quarter-finals. To be perfectly honest, we’ve been quite lucky in the past rounds of Champions League. We managed to scrape together 4 draws in the 2nd stage and only conceded 7 goals. The two games that we lost were both against Juventus, so drawing twice against Arsenal ain’t bad at all.

We took home the League Cup without any difficulties. 4-0 against St. Pat’s in the final’s 1st leg meant that we were pretty much League Cup-winners before the 2nd leg had been played.

Of course, the triple that I spoke of, winning the Premier division, the League cup and the Senior’s challenge cup was killed in the quarter-finals after a penalty shootout against Shamrock. The only time those assholes can beat us is when there are penalties involved. A double isn’t so bad though…

Ironically, we lost our 2nd game of the season in the premier division when St. Pat’s beat us on our own home grounds in the final round. Bollocks. No big surprises in the league apart from that, it was a simple waltz and we’re a fucking dance crew.

During the summer I told Mr. McCormick to get ready for some big transfers, and ready he was. We spent around 2.5M on 6 players, and maybe even 4M on sign-on bonuses. I wanted to bring in some foreigners to make us look and feel like a European team. Out of the bunch the most talented were Sesay, Devitt, Marr, Binningsley, Miele, Forrest, Austin and Doherty. Forrest and Devitt would most certainly take a place in the attacking midfield, and Miele would probably take Moloney’s place (whom I have sold).

Moloney wasn’t class anymore, so I decided to let him go to St. Pat’s. Keogh’s season had been absolute shite and he had been making all sorts of stupid mistakes on the pitch. He’s also turning 32 this summer, so he isn’t getting any better. I thank him deeply though for the 5 seasons he served Galway. Jake Kelly was a ghost compared to his form 3-4 seasons ago; when a 1.3M offer came in from Central Coast I just couldn’t say no to that kind of money. Perhaps he will return to us again in the future if he doesn’t hold a grudge against me. Apart from that, no other key players were sold.

The summer has barely started and I’ve made sure that we’ve got a smashing team for the next season. Only problem is, the squad is WAY too big. I’ll probably sell off some more guys in July.

Another season was over and I looked back on it with a semi-smile. This had been one of our poorer seasons, although we clinched the double – the league and the senior challenge cup.

In the 1st leg against Lazio we took the lead through Charlie Austin, just to see all our hopes and dreams vanish when Mark Whelan gets sent off in the 69th minute for disputing a penalty. That penalty meant 1-1 and Oscampos scored the final goal in the 87th minute, 1-2 Lazio.
In the 2nd leg Austin equalized to 1-1 just before half-time, but just before the end of the game two quick Lazio goals finally set the result to 3-1 to Lazio. I knew that we didn’t have a chance on their home grounds, so it didn’t come as a surprise.

We also fell in the league cup quarter final against Sligo Rovers; the final score was 3-1 in their favor. This was only bad luck though; I had the best squad on the pitch that day.

We picked up the pace in the league and quickly advanced up to the 1st place, and then we never looked back. As anyone can see by looking at the final league table, we were still dominating the league. I think what helped our form was my switching back to our old tactic, Devitt and Forrest looked much better out on the wings and the central midfield position suited Brandon Miele better too. The celebrations this year weren’t as wild as the previous years, the guys knew that we had a long way to top form, so a sense of failure was in the atmosphere that night. I can’t say that I was displeased, I mean, we still won the double. That has to count for something even though we won the league with only 74 points. What do counts for sure is what we've done for Irish Football, two irish teams now qualify to the Champions League thanks to our successes in the previous years. From a 18th ranked on the UEFA-Coefficient list we're currently 11th, Galway takes all the credit for that achievement.

Super Cup was a walk in the park really, we could relax and win one game and draw two, and another trophy was also nice for the clubhouse.

Once again I sold Kevin Long and made a nice little profit of him, 100K to be exact. I also had to let Cadogan and McDermott go during the season, 160K offers for each one of them was a decent deal. On a personal level, it was sad to see McDermott go, he’s a great footballer and a great human being aswell, a lot of the young guys here looked up to him.

When the season was over another couple of transfers took place, they were:
- Gavin Carlin who left us for Hibernian on a bosman deal.
- Michael Spillane, after signing him on a bosman I made a pretty little 275K when selling him to Motherwell.
- Rainford Kalaba, the Zambian, had a decent season with us but I couldn’t refuse a 55K bid for such an old player.
- Jean-Pierre Brun, the defender who had looked so promising wasn’t doing much right on the pitch, when Metz came knocking with an 18K offer I made sure to put in a future transfer clause just in case he would snap out of his poor form.
- Edward Asafu-Adjaye to UCD for 20K. He has achieved nothing with us.
- Charlie Austin to Preston for 1M, quality money for a quality player that’s getting old, better to take the bid now than accept a lower one in a couple of years.

Besides from that, I terminated the contracts for both Les Alexander and Paul Pearson, they were getting nowhere in the reserves team and they sure as hell wouldn’t be going nowhere with the first team.
A lot of signings were also made:
- Akwasi Asante, striker from Birmingham for 65K (bargain!)
- Damien McCrory, left defender from Swansea for 200K.
- Joe O’Cearuill, left and central defender on a free transfer.
- James Coyle, central defender from Norwich for 160K (again, bargain!)
- Emil Vikström, a Swedish Striker that I bought from Skultuna for 40K, can serve as a backup for the time being
- Robbie Kemp, defensive midfielder from Cardiff, our most expensive signing ever, we payed Cardiff 1.5M for him – he will play an integral part of this team in the upcoming season.
- Wayne Bowen, central defender from Bala Town for 190K, huge talent.
- John Smyth from Bray Wanderers for 100K, can play as a striker and a right winger which can really come in handy.
- Gavin Peers, central defender from Dag & Red on a bosman deal.
- Sean Scannell, striker from Preston on a bosman deal.
- Luke Oliver, striker from Hull on a bosman deal, quite promising lad.
- Eunan O’Kane, central and right midfielder from QPR for 130K, I can’t remember why I bought him.
- Stephen Watt, striker who was on a free transfer when I signed him. 8 games from start and 6 off the bench and 6 goals is a pretty good accomplishment for a player of his age (18).

For the coming season I’m looking to sign an international class player, someone that can really put us on the map. At the moment though, I have no idea of who that could be. I need to get some quality money in from transfers for the club; the finances are still extremely stabile but I won’t our finances to grow. 0.5M loss during this season is just too much money.

On a more personal note, I’ve started to see this woman and I don’t really know if it’s serious or not, I guess I’ll bring that up when I do know.

Another goal I have for the upcoming season is that I want to have one of my guys to win the Irish League Golden Boot; we haven’t had a contender there in all these years.

Welcome to Ireland and to Galway United!!!!!!

Lassana Diarra, Gael Clichy and Darren Bent!!!

We performed decently in the Champions League, but I reckon we would’ve had more of a chance if our players could just keep their composure and not get sent off. 4 red cards during the 1st group stage is a lot of red cards, I’m amazed that we even ended up with 4 points. The 2-1 win over Liverpool and the two wins against Valencia are the things I’ll remember from this year, in those games we really proved our worth on the European stage.

The league was going fine; my only real concern was that Shamrock Rovers were back in the top tier of Irish football after a couple of shitty seasons. They were a hard nut to crack both on the pitch and on the transfer market, so I wasn’t too pleased with their success. I was confident though that we would end up winning our 5th consecutive league title. Since we’ve made our way through to the final in the league cup where we would be playing Dundalk, we had a good shot of taking the triple too for the first time ever.

My star signings performed like legends on the pitch, Diarra had the highest average rating in the whole league and Bent was consistent in his goalscoring. Only problem was that Bent got injured quite often, it was a good thing that Akwasi Asante had started taking responsibility up front, with 8 goals in 8 games from start and 9 games coming off the bench.

Notable transfers were the selling of Jason Marr to Reading for 475K and Mark Connolly to Scunthorpe for 65K.

I was now more than just a manager for Galway Utd, recently I had been contacted by a national football association that had put me in charge of their national team. That team was USA. I just wanted to gain some reputation out in the world and then take over a national team that lies closer to my heart, Ireland that is. The first games I have with USA are next year.

My new girlfriend, whose name is Maxine, just moved in with me during the previous week. She’s originally from Dublin, but she moved to Galway to work about a year ago. We met during Galway training, she came up and asked for my autograph after the training and I invited her out to dinner instead. After a couple of dates we started fooling around, and all of a sudden she was at my place every night after she’d finished her shift at a local pub; “Galway’s lads”. She's 10 years younger than me, I'm 31 and she's 21. Some people think it's too big of an age difference, but I can't say that I give a fuck really.

We picked up the pace in the league and for the 5th consecutive year, we were champions once again. We finished on 81 points, which was a decent achievement. 86 points is still our team record though, 89 points (Shamrock) being the league record. This meant another Champions League adventure in the coming season; hopefully we would have a better squad for that this time.

The final in the league cup was an easy challenge for us with Dundalk being our opponents. They have been awful in the league this season so I wasn’t surprised when we won both legs. 3-1 away and 5-2 at home after 4 goals (!) by Darren Bent meant that we were league cup winners for the 7th time, 5 times during my era.

The senior challenge cup was as easy as the league cup, 5-0 against Bray, 3-0 against UCD and 3-0 again Wexford Youths and we were in the final against St. Pat’s. 2-0 advantage to us in half-time after goals by Kennedy and Bent. O’Donnell reduced our advantage with his 2-1 goal in the 61st minute, but it wasn’t enough. We had won the senior challenge cup; in fact, we had won the triple for the first time ever! Last year’s undemonstrative partying was now only a faded memory, we partied like kings. I couldn’t party as much as I’d hoped since Maxine was with me all the time, but I got pretty drunk anyways. In fact, I got so drunk that I asked her to marry me – she said yes. I would have to deal with this later as I hadn’t thought it through when I actually asked her.

After the season was over we said goodbye to Darren Bent who signed with Crystal Palace in the championship. I wasn’t sure whether or not he had the ability to perform like this for another season, so instead of putting him on the bench I found it best to let him spread his wings. 39 games and 31 goals for us was astonishing, I wish him all the success possible in the future. I also sold Sean Scannell to Inverness for 300K, Marc Wilson to Burton Albion for 475K (great deal for such an old player), Eunan O’Kane to Mansfield for 60K (he was useless) and Dominic Hardy to Fulham for 800K, Dominic deserved to play at the highest level, hopefully he could achieve this with Fulham. I thank him for his 205 games for us, and the lad is still only 20 years old!

I signed a couple of players, one of them was a true legend in the world of football; Edin Dzeko!! He had left Manchester City after his contract expired and I snapped him up with a huge sign-on bonus. I figured that he probably had 2-3 more seasons in him at this level. I also bought Alan Walsh from Everton for 150K, Sean Malone from Celtic on a bosman deal, Sean St. Ledger on a free transfer, Paul Fagan on a free transfer, Niall McGeough on a free transfer and Jackson Mendy on a free transfer.

Apart from Bent, my star signings the other year, Diarra and Clichy, had been excellent in Galway. Diarra was voted supporter’s player of the year, an honour he very much deserved. Both Diarra and Clichy were awarded a place in the Irish Premier division-team of the year and both were in the final race to become Irish Premier division-player of the year, Diarra finished 1st and Clichy finished 2nd.

My little adventure with USA ended immediately after the World Cup when I was sacked. We didn’t make our way through the group stage so the American football association decided to give me the boot. I don’t think that I could’ve done it any differently; it was all just coincidence and stupid players that fucked up my dream of reaching the quarter-finals. Against Czech Republic we took the lead with one goal, only to see that lead vanish into thin air after two red cards for us – a penalty for them and a late goal (possibly due to the fact that our goalkeeper was one of the guys who got sent off). In the 77th minute against Denmark the game’s only goal came through Eriksen – a BLOODY freekick, lucky assholes. In the final game against Brazil we managed to win, but our 3 points weren’t enough to get to the next stage of the World Cup. Bummer.

Again we won the Super Cup after two 3-0 wins and one 4-0 win, this was our 3rd consecutive super cup title.

In the 3rd round of qualifying to the Champions League we were up against Norwegian team Molde. They beat us on our home grounds with 1-0, but through two goals by O’Brien we managed to win 2-0 in Norway – once again we were through to the Champions League group stage. Anzhi, Arsenal and Real Madrid were in our group, I had no high hopes for this year…

Against Anzhi, Real Madrid and Arsenal we didn't really stand a chance in the Champions League. A draw and a win against Anzhi, and one draw each against Real Madrid and Arsenal meant that we finished 3rd in the group with 6 points. Still a good achievement if you ask me. In the UEFA Cup's 3rd round we were going to play Roma which frightened me, we didn't have a good track record against italian clubs. To my great surprise though, we drew in Rome and smashed them at home with 5-1 after two goals each by Dzeko and Devitt and one by 17-year old welsh attacking midfielder, Paul Morgan. We would have to wait until March though before we would play Athletic Bilbao in the 4th round.

This year, we didn't reach the finals in the league cup. After an ineffective performance against Derry City they managed to score the games only goal in the 19th minute of extra time.

We were dominating the league once again, 16 points ahead of number two after 21 played games. 49 goals and 11 conceded showed clearly that our defence was better than ever. With Dzeko as a striker, I didn't need any new players. Even when he was injured I had Sean Malone who has scored 10 goals in 6 games from start and 20 off the bench. Our defensive midfield with O'Brien and Diarra was also more immaculate than ever with the new signing Obi Mikel coming off the bench to take some of the weight off their shoulders.

Recently I had begun to consider the option of moving to a new club, once this season is over I will have to discuss this further with Maxine.

During my first couple of days with Wolves I mostly received bad news. The club’s finances were shite and we had a lot of good players leaving the club on expiring contracts. To straighten out the finances I had to sell Billy Clifford, Jordan Bowery and John Edwards for a total sum of 1.675M. That helped out some with the -5M balance, and when the sales of season tickets had begun and money for tv-rights came in we found ourselves having a +1M balance. Still not a lot of room for big transfers, so I had to scout the market wisely and only buy players that I could sell later on for a profit. I spent a total of 320K on three transfers, and the rest that joined us were free agents. My first purchase was Sean Malone from Galway (I was already a bit homesick). I knew that Sean was a great player and a great goalscorer, Galway didn’t want him but we surely needed him here in England. My other tactic was to scout the market for youngsters and either make them part of the first team or simply sell them as soon as possible.

When we had played 9 league games into the season, we find ourselves 11th placed in the league with 14 points, 2 points up to number 6 and the playoffs. Malone and Matthew Bowen (who I picked up on a free transfer after he left Middlesbrough) has been the most outstanding players this far. Bowen has an average rating of 7.56 in 9 games and Malone has scored 4 goals in 10 games with a 7.80 average rating.

Giving my second goalkeeper Andy Byrne number 50 for his match shirt proved to be the most stupid thing I’ve done in my entire career. That 17-year old proved to be a real asset to us and I now rank him our number 1 goalkeeper after 18 games played and 12 conceded. By adjusting the tactic to encourage more play on the wings we really got things going. I thought for sure that our luck would end when Sean Malone picked up an injury and was sidelined for a month – but I was proved wrong once again. Callum Ball, a 30K bargain from Ebbsfleet filled out Malone’s shoes perfectly, scoring 6 goals in 4 games from start and 10 off the bench. When Malone was healthy enough he was back at his normal place.

Our incredibly young midfielders worked their asses off to show me that they wanted a place in the starting squad – and they got it. Parsons 22, Robinson 17, Mackie 17, O’Neil 26 and Bowen 22 were my usual 5 guys on the midfield, with Munday (19) and Brennan (18) being their contenders.

After losing in the 1st round in the League Cup against Watford we took the FA Cup more seriously, beating Hartlepool and Yeovil in the first 2 rounds. Next up is Cheltenham, which shouldn’t be too much of a problem for us.

I and Maxine had just settled into the neighborhood and our apartment in the centre of Wolverhampton. We’re getting married too in the summer and she’s probably going to want the whole package deal with a kid and a dog, I’m not too sure at the moment.

Here’s a view of the ground floor of our new apartment, or really, it’s just a so-called “ego-picture” of Maxine.

The season got even better after the new year had begun. We had a streak of 15 games without losing during the 4th January to the 29th February. With our bulletproof tactic and Sean Malone up top we found ourselves climbing past the playoff spots and up to a 2nd place in the middle of March. Our dominance continued and when the season was over, we were number one. All the members of the board would’ve sucked my balls if I asked them to, they were high on Whiskey. So was the fans, I received a lot of spontaneous hugs and kisses from all sorts of people (males and females) whenever I was in town. The party got pretty crazy too, with Malone being arrested for smashing champagne bottles outside the facilities we had rented for the occasion. When the coppers understood who he was, they let him go but drove him home – that was probably best.

We fell against Sunderland in the FA Cup Quarter Final with 3-0. After beating Manchester City with 3-0 in the previous game (hattrick by Malone), we had no more energy to do something similar like that again.

I’ve already started preparing for the next season by buying a couple of players, the wingers Bowyer and Draper are probably the biggest names there. I’m thinking about harvesting the relegated clubs from the Championship and Division 2, that’ll probably save us some money. Unfortunately, Jake Cassidy left the club after his contract expired, I’m trying to work something out with him so that we can get him back here – that player has a lot of potential.

Since I was so drunk at the victory party, I didn’t notice that Maxine didn’t drink anything during the evening. A week later when she asked me if I had noticed I had no idea of what she was talking about. She told me she was 1 month pregnant, and I almost shat my pants. When the initial panic-mode was soothed with a cup of coffee, I was pretty damn happy about our situation. If she just stays half as smokin’ as this during the pregnancy, I’ll be happy:

Wolverhampton had caught the Whiskey-fever. After 14 games we were number one with the chance of being 4 points ahead of 2nd placed Preston if we were to win the next game. The fans loved me, the board loved me and the media loved me – not a big surprise though considering the recent performances. During the summer and early fall we signed a lot of good players:
- Daniel Devine, DC that came to us on a free transfer.
- Andy Huggins, Welsh striker from Neath that cost us 275K. I had had my eyes on this bloke and his performances in the Welsh league for at least 4 seasons. Unfortunately, I never managed to sign him to Galway.
- Cesc Fàbregas, a true star – no star stats this far though. Free transfer.
- John Guidetti, the Swedish forward who mainly serves as a backup. Free transfer.
- Paul Keane, backup goalkeeper. Free transfer.
- Edinson Cavani who has certainly added a lot of experience and power to our attack.
- Aiden McGeady, Irish work-horse. Free transfer.
- Domenico Criscito, Italian super-defender who have added a lot of depth to our defence.

We just have to keep this up and we should surely get promoted to the premiership.

On a more personal note, Maxine is now known as Mrs. McSheepherder. We had a big wedding with over 300 guests, 50 of them being Wolves-players. A week later I went to the pet shop and got us a dog, I named him Carlsberg (probably the best dog in the world). I and Maxine have just started shopping things for the baby too. Women sure are annoying when it comes to these sorts of things, if sex was out of the picture, I don’t see what would make them worth the trouble.

Probably the best dog in the world:

Who could have known that we would end up 2nd in the Championship and get that promotion? I did of course. This team is a winning concept and I’m a winner - that equals success. After reaching the 1st place in the league we cruised between 1st and 3rd and our performances varied. The average result was a 1-0 win for us which was a little bit annoying for me since I always manage teams that score a lot of goals.

After signing all those stars I made a lot of other transfers too:
- Mauro Bonaccorsi on a free transfer, backup DC.
- Christian Davies from Bristol City for 550K. I wanted to replace Bowyer with Davies on the ML-position.
- Jordan Newsome on a free transfer from Kallon FC, he was an AMC and one hell of a dribbler.
- Gaston Martinez from Estudiantes (LP) for 80K, a great backup goalkeeper.
- Jan Van Dam on a free transfer. Would mainly serve as a backup to Criscito and Norgren on the DL-position.
- Signed Mark Whelan on a bosman, my ol’ ‘keeper from Galway.
- Paul Morgan from Galway Utd for 35K, a great talent that lad.
- Ryan Hartson from Port Vale on a bosman, promising DR.
- Michael Lovell from Galway Utd for 1.1M, I wanted to give them a fair bid for such a great player.
- Damien Couriol from Galway Utd for 200K, a promising attacking midfielder.
- Neil Bowyer from Millwall for 1.6M, a 19-year old striker that had scored 10 goals in 18 games (10 of the bench). I can see him playing for England one day.
- Gareth Moran from West Ham on a bosman, a great winger.
- Anders Westin from Hammarby IF for 300K, a great DL that can play with the big boys.
- Victor Hellgren from Hammarby IF for 600K, a national team player with 2 caps.
- Mattias Thörn from Elfsborg for 1.8M, he’s the biggest exclamation I’ve signed in my career, I hope that he will succeed.
- Steve Walker from Derry City for 400K, used to play for me at Galway, great defender.
- Sold Mark Murray to York for 85K.
- Sold Sean Malone to Carlisle for 975K, he would never make it in a higher division.
- Sold John Guidetti to Sion for 1.7M, the club needed cash and I didn’t need another striker.
- Sold Jon Bowyer to Brighton for 575K, made a nice 425K profit of him.
- Sold Paul Smyth to Tamworth for 140K, useless player.
- Sold Jon Draper to Inverness for 425K, made a nice 300K profit of him.
- Sold Mark Holloway to Sheff Wed, 900K was a good offer.
- Sold Daniel Devine to Hull for 600K, at the age of 30 he wouldn’t be getting any better for the Premier League.
- Sold Christian Davies to Fulham for 825K, made a 275K profit of him.
- Let Criscito go and manage Giacomense in Italian C1/A.

I’m trying to get rid of the older players, but it isn’t as simple as I thought. Fàbregas’ and Cavani’s last season was their last season at this level; the expiration date has been passed. Hopefully I’ll get rid of ‘em before the Premier League starts.

When ol’ Mick retired the position as a manager for Ireland was finally vacant – I applied and the association wet their pants. I was immediately hired and a big dream of mine had finally come true -coaching the Irish national team.

Scotch McSheepherder was born on the 21st February, weighing in at 6 kg and 54 cm, he was a big boy. Me and the missus were of course thrilled and excited, and we spent the following couple of weeks getting used to being parents. I had no early mornings so fortunately I could help Maxine out and let her have some well-deserved sleep once in a while.

Best players last season

27-04-12, 01:30 PM

I had signed a lot of new players to Wolves, but more came before the league kicked off:
- Chilean legend Alexis Sánchez on a free transfer.
- Declan Cunninghamn, a DC from Cork City for 220K.
- The one and only, Lionel Messi on a free transfer.

Then I also signed an additional five youngsters for the reserve team.

Injuries and suspensions stopped us from a having a good start in the league, between the 5th and 8th game we were dead last. After switching players between positions and getting players such as Moran back from injuries this meant that by the 9th game I had finally found some sort of working tactic when we won against Manchester United with 2-1.

Of course I would have to sign younger players after this season; I can’t have 3 players over 36 starting in every game. Cavani was no longer an option for the striker-position and neither was Thörn, Cavani was simply too old and I would have to school Thörn to be an AMC to perfectly fit my tactic. I was still using the same tactic as I started out with in the 2nd division, 4-1-4-1 with one defensive midfielder and one striker. From left to right I played: Byrne – Westin – Hellgren – Walker – Bowen – Fábregas - Sánchez – Lovell – Robinson – Moran – Messi.

I’m thinking about letting Messi sit on the bench with Thörn while Bowyer plays in the striker position, he has scored 4 goals in 10 appearances (6 of the bench).

I’m glad to see that Robinson is stepping up, the 19-year old is getting better every division and season.

At home things are going quite smoothly, Scotch is sleeping 6 hours every night and that’s all I need. The missus needs at least 10 hours of sleep after the baby was born so that gives me a couple of hours to spend time with my son and get prepared for work.

At the end of August we would be playing against Scotland in the WCQ. We had three more games to play before the group-phase would be over, and we were 3rd placed. The game against Scotland was a tight one, but in the 83rd minute Declan Ryan could finally end the emotional torture and make us the winners with 3-2.

The next game against Belarus had to be won if we would have any chance of advancing to the playoff; the 1st place was already too far away with Russia finally ending up on 18 points. We took an easy win in Minsk with 3-1 after goals by Dempsey (his first for Ireland), Browne and Brennan.

When Scotland and Russia drew 1-1 in Glasgow that meant we were through to the playoffs. The lads celebrated on the pitch against Slovenia in our last game by winning with 4-0 after goals by Niall O’Brien (his first for Ireland), Robbie Brady, Mikey Drennan and Sean O’Donoghue (his first for Ireland in his first cap too!).

We were seeded against Romania in the playoffs, which made me relieved. This would surely be easy. After a mediocre 1-1 draw in Bucharest (and O’Donoghue scoring his 2nd goal in his 2nd cap) we were psyched for the rematch. Within 14 minutes, between the 16th and 30th minute Romania got BUTCHERED. O’Donoghues hattrick meant that we would be playing in the World Cup.

In late December I was well aware of the fact that we would end somewhere in the middle of the table. We won games against worse teams and were defeated by better teams. Switching between Sanchéz, Messi and Moran as wingers didn’t give the team the pace that we needed for teams such as Man Utd and Arsenal – I was looking to buy someone with those skills during the summer.

We finished on a honourable 9th place, being one out of 7 teams in the league having conceded less goals than games played. Andy Byrne was a big factor there, he deserved a lot of praise, which I also gave him when an opportunity arose, for his efforts between the posts. Simon Robinson was blooming, he made his international debut for England against Spain in April 2014. He came off the bench and did quite well, actually. 49 games, 19 goals and 10 assists meant that he was and is by far our most important player.

Both the FA Cup and the League Cup went well this year, we managed to advance to the semi-final against Bournemouth in the League Cup before being knocked out with 0-1, 1-1. We took revenge on them in the FA Cup and knocked them out in the 5th round. We made it all the way to the final against Man Utd where 3 red cards spoiled our chances of winning, we only lost with 2-1 despite the red cards.

- Pat Moore
- Jordon Newsome
- Mattias Thörn
- Adam O’Neil
- Michael Smith
- Damien Couriol
- Joe Hilton
- George Francomb

I got rid of all these players, most of them were released from their contracts but Thörn (3.6M to Portsmouth), Couriol (4.3M to Blackburn) and Smith (250K to Swansea) were sold. Only one player was sold in the summer - that was Paul Morgan whom I sold to Bournemouth for 4.1M. After the money for the TV-rights had been distributed our finances were looking swell with over 20M in the bank. I wasn’t sure yet whether or not I would use it to buy more players. Costing 10.5M, the board had Molineux expanded with 10 000 seats to 39300 and financed a better youth academy and their facilities.

6 players were bought from November to July:
- Brian Shaw, 825K from Sheff Utd. Beast in the air, fast too!
- Paul Huggins, 2.8M from Charlton. Versatile winger.
- Shaun Riley, 750K from Charlton. AML – a dribbler.
- Jimmy Reid, 30K from Dundalk. A promising youngster.
- Derek Donnelly, bosman from Oxford. Another versatile winger.
- Jimmy Wendling, French defender from Lens, bosman deal.

Scotch has learned to walk and will soon be off to kindergarten, which means that Maxine can get back to work. I haven’t discussed it with her, but I’m assuming that she wants to do something – who knows.

We were off to a shaky start in the WC after losing against Germany with 2-0 in the very first game of the group. An easy 2-0 win over Nigeria meant that we had to trust Germany to beat Nigeria in the last game while we had to draw or win against Belgium. Belgium was leading with 2-0 when O’Donoghue scored 2-1 in the 50th minute, and Campbell then scored 2-2 in the 62nd minute. Bakkali then made his 2nd goal of the game in the 81st minute, putting Belgium in the lead. I thought for sure that the game was over, but Towell proved me wrong. He scored a beautiful goal in the 85th minute and then it was all down to Germany against Nigeria. They were down 3-1 after 76 minutes, but Spies and Hübner both scored one goal each to equalise and that meant that we were through, with very small marginals.

In the 2nd round we won over Turkey with 2-0 in a rather dull and boring game. Norway took the lead in the quarter-final but we were blessed by Walsh’s freekick and McCarthy’s finishing skills (89th minute). South Korea in the semi-final was an easy game, 2 goals by O’Donoghue and 1 goal by Moran gave us a 3-0 lead and a ticket to the final. The final was a rather defensive and passive game, which meant that 0-0 was the result after 120 minutes. After the first 3 penalties both teams had 3 penalties scored each, then one miss each followed. Vaz scored for Portugal making the score 4-3, and then, O’Donoghue missed our 5th penalty. He was devastated and so was I, but I told him that there would be more games like this for him. The lad is only 20 and has already played 12 caps and scored 13 goals for Ireland. We were celebrated as heroes when we got back to Dublin, and the whole country seemed to have gathered in the town. I knew that I had a lot of work in front of me, the national team needed a generation-change and new faces.

As we came closer to the new season I signed more players, Eun-Chul Lee, Ulf Höglund, Shane Boyle and Emmanuel Agbonifo were all part of the Wolves squad before the first match of the season against Bournemouth. The money we spent on these players wasn’t a lot; it summed up to 4.85M. . The first three games of the season didn’t go according to plan, 2 draws and 1 defeat against Everton (wtf?) and only 2 goals scored – I realised that I wasn’t done scouting the market for new players. Patrick Moonen, Leon McGregor and Gareth Gill were also signed, but Moonen was the only one I would use in the starting XI. While I signed these players I also got rid of Matthew Bowen (free transfer), Neil Bowyer (4.9M to Bolton) and Darren Quinton (free transfer).

The first round in the UEFA Cup went smoothly by, Hungarian side Honvéd were defeated with 2-1 in Hungary and 2-0 at Molineux, I tried out some new players and positions for them and was quite happy with the results. Meanwhile we were on a deadly hunt for victories in the league, winning 7 out of 9 games (the rest were draws) which put us up way high in the League Table. Châteauroux were our next opposition in the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup, a 3-0 defeat on French ground meant that we were pretty much screwed for the rematch in England. 2 goals by Shaw and 1 penalty goal by Lovell meant 3-3 in total score, and then Shaw finished them off with a goal in the 104th minute, on overtime.

With Agbonifo as an incredible pillar for our team on the DMC-position and Moonen amongst others on the midfield, Simon Robinson could start to focus on playing the game. He had done a huge load of work last season but the defenders were marking him pretty decisively this time around. He wasn’t scoring as much as the last season, but he was playing a lot better with better teammates.

In the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup, our luck had ended. We were again beaten with 3-0 on French ground by Montpellier but only managed to draw on Molineux, this obviously meant that we had been knocked out of the tourney. Still going strong in the league though, currently placed 3rd (!).

We have only played friendlies this autumn and they have been quite boring, fortunately I have been able to try out a couple of new players – a lot of them are Wolves players too. Especially Wolves-player Eddie O’Sullivan looks promising, he’s currently on a loan at Dundee where he has so far scored 5 goals in 14 games – and the lad is only 19 years old.

We finished the season just like we started it. From the 8th league game we never fell below 4th place and finished the season on a respectable 2nd place which meant that we would be entering the Champions League for the next season! Simon Robinson became more of an all-round player for us over the course of the season, which overall, benefitted the team. I didn’t regret selling Bowyer after Brian Shaw’s magnificent season, 32 goals in 49 games. Despite of this, I couldn’t help but feel that he was sometimes too ineffective in front of the goal. I was also worried about our left winger for the next season, Sanchéz was too old, Goméz didn’t have it in him and Riley was in no way prepared for the task at hand. I would have to find a quality player. Right back position was also a problem, Hartson was simply not the man for the job and Bowen was useless if placed anywhere else than as a central defender.

We reached the semi-finals in the FA Cup but unfortunately we lost against Tottenham after having to settle the score with penalties.

Scotch was already to 2 years old and quite talkative too, sometimes he even spoke more than Maxine (she’s a real blabbermouth). I’ve been playing some footie with him in the garden and I look forward taking him to his first practice, but that will have to wait for a couple of years.

Players In
Gerardo Gomez - a versatile argentinian who cost me 90K coming from River Plate. He would mainly serve as a backup.
Donatello De Rosa – a very promising defensive midfielder who cost us only 2.5M coming from Genoa. I had previously offered them a higher price which they declined, when Donatello became unhappy with the situation in Genoa they had to accept my lower offer.
John Price – promising central defender who was a real bargain for 400K coming from Fulham. He would need a season or two before settling in to the starting XI.

Players out
Emmanuel Agbonifo – A whopping 8.75M offer from Sunderland was too good to decline, with De Rosa in the squad I wasn’t worried either for Agbonifo’s departure.
Walker, Huggins and Jordan – Neither of these fellows had turned out the way I had hoped they would, 4.1M for the bunch of them was a GOOD offer.
Gareth Moran – a magician when playing for Ireland, useless in Wolves. I had given him too many chances and finally decided to sell him to his former club West Ham for 2.4M

Two friendly matches were played – Hungary in June and Andorra in September. I saw these two games as a good springboard to bring in a new generation of Irish blood. With an average age of 24 years our squad consisted of class players that had the potential to go far in their respective careers. They were all, more or less, defensive players – Campbell, O’Connor and O’Donoghue (MC, AMC, ST) took care of things on the other side of the pitch. That was confirmed by a convincing 5-0 win against Hungary in Budapest, after 2 goals by O’Donoghue and 1 goal by Campbell (for a league one player, 7 goals in 18 caps wasn’t bad at all for a central midfielder, bloody unbelievable!).

A less convincing but oh so stabile 3-0 win away against Andorra (O’Donoghue, Donnelly, Campbell) gave me no reason to fear facing Estonia in November.

I can sum up the transfer activity during the summer with a clear trend:
Transfer money spent:
1st season – 825K
2nd season – 3.9M
3rd season -7.75M
4th season – 10M
5th season - … 15.5M!

We had only reached October and already 15.5M had been spent on transfers. Out of the bunch, Miguel Pedro and Keskin Yücel were the most expensive transfers (7.25M and 5.5M respectively). Pedro is an AMCR who has been capped 12 times for Portugal, his technique and creativity should certainly come in handy for us as the season progresses. Yücel is a versatile forward who can play on the midfield as well as a lone striker if necessary, if he doesn’t do his share of the work I will have to sell him quickly before he turns too old (29 years old at the moment). The rest of the transfers were:
• Robbie O’Hanlon from Bradford for 825K, will surely be used as a backup to the first squad.
• Francisco Goncalves from Vit. De Guimaraes. 875K for a great AMRL was a good deal.
• Cees Roox from PSV for 675K, a real bargain at that price! Holds a steady place on the bench.
• Sergio Agüero on a free transfer – I want to keep bringing these world-class players in and make them coaches – that will inspire our youngsters.
• Ricardo Sastre from Gimnastica on a bosman deal. An all-round great MC with great potential, but he needs a few years to develop further.
• Sebastian Coates on a free transfer – same perspective as with Agüero, but Coates is still good enough to hold a place in the starting XI.
• Mick Gray from West Ham for 875K is just who I’ve been looking for, a decent versatile defender!
• Stefan Smith from Cambuur for 350K, a pacey winger who will serve us well in the future!
• Alex Stewart on a free transfer, this 18-year old Scottish GK is so promising that I might just let him play a game or two this season.
• Hector Lopez Alvarez from Gimnastica on a bosman deal, this 17-year old is good enough already to challenge De Rosa for the DMC-spot. This player will mean big bucks in the future.

After 6 games being played in the league we are currently on a 4th place, 3 wins, 1 drawn and 1 loss. We’ve been pretty stable but I’m still waiting for the goalscoring to get more effective (only 7 goals in 6 games). De Rosa was injured in our last game and will be out for 3 months (!), this means that one of the more inexperienced DMC’s will have to take his place, at the moment I’m leaning towards Alvarez – but nothing is certain.

Our start in the Champions League was certainly honourable with 2 straight wins and 1 draw, judging from the current table another win should seal our advantage to the second group stage. It might also be time for me to let some of the younger ones try their wings in a European cup.

Haha, I noticed that your comments on this decreased after I went to England :D

If the galway-job isn't available I cant go back and be judas!! Maybe Wales, Scotland or NI, dont know if I'd fancy that :/ Falkirk has always been a fav team though

Probably a good idea.
Out of one of the mainstream leagues. Scotland probably falls into that as well so Ireland, N.Ire or Wales I'd say.

The game against Estonia was a dull event, Estonia had no shots at all and we only managed to get 6 shots on goal in total. Foley and O’Connor played the well and the rest of our squad just… played… We didn’t exactly send an echoe of football-magic across the world with our 1-0 away against Estonia.

Won’t be any more games this year, March next year will probably be scheduled for friendly matches.

Three straight defeats in the league after our successful start to the season made me question my abilities. Thankfully it all got sorted out in the away win against Bornemouth, 0-2. After that we won another game against Chelsea (2-1) and then lost against Leeds (0-1) – the 3-0 win against Genoa in the first game of the 2nd group phase in CL became the compass we needed so well, including that win we now have 8 straight wins (2 in CL, 6 in the league). De Rosa and Robinson were both out with injuries during some or all of this time (3 months and 1 month, respectively) which meant basically that our 2 key players had to be replaced. 17-year old López Álvarez replaced De Rosa well and is currently on a 8.11 avg rating this season. Robinson was a lot more difficult to replace, Moonen and Yücel just aren’t suited for an attacking MC-position – I’m glad Robinson is back (scored one goal in his first game after the injury).

Unfortunately we lost against Man City in the 3rd round of the League Cup, we dominated the game but didn’t manage to score, so the game went to penalties where Yücel couldn’t handle the pressure – a shame really.

2 more players were signed to Wolves:
- 19-year old Pat Butler on a free transfer, he’s a promising fellow for the DL-position.
- Johnny Wiklund from Hammarby on a bosman deal. He’s a D/DM RC who hasn’t been good at all I’m afraid, might have to get rid of him to make room for someone better.

I’ve started dropping Scotch of at the kindergarten in the mornings so Maxine can sleep in. It’s a bloody work that often takes me more than expected since all the football-interested dads are always asking me about upcoming games and players. I know they all mean well but dropping my 2 and a half year old son off at the kindergarten isn’t exactly what people associate with football-discussion.

I spoke with Maxine about settling down in another country in the UK and she wasn’t so pleased. This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now, all the pressure and media-attention in England is absurd, and now that we have enough money to last the rest of our lives we might aswell move back to Ireland (assuming I can work with Galway in some way) or move to Wales or NI. Maxine responded by going on a sex-strike for 2 months which was a real struggle for me, but she eventually came around.

“You ain’t getting none of this Whiskey!”

Irish Times, 26th July 2026
Following the tragic death of Galway United manager David Bell, Whiskey McSheepherder has announced that he will be coming back to the club as an act of honouring Bell's memory and the club. McSheepherder said in an interview earlier today: "All my thoughts and condolences go to Bell's family. I love Galway as a club and offered to help. Luckily, they said yes."

Wolves - the goodbye
I left Wolves like a winner, winning them their first premier division gold in 67 years. There were no hard feelings as I left, rather, people were sad to see me go. I had built up quite a reputation in England during my stay at Wolves so people still respected my decision of going back to Galway. I was a bit disappointed with only reaching the quarter-finals in CL, but winning the Premier League had been my priority from day one in England. I wish them all the best – they certainly have the resources necessary for great success.

It was time for the 2026 European Championships, and we were hosting!

Holland, Austria and Sweden were a decent seeding for us, I assumed that there would be no big problems and that we would progress through the group stage.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/118.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-118.html)

The first game against Holland was a tight display between two sides wanting to win but not risking anything. O’Donoghue scored the game’s only goal when he broke through their defence in the 28th minute – his 20th goal in 23 caps for Ireland. The same O’Donoghue got injured later in that same game and would miss the remained of the European Championships.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/119.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-119.html)

Austria proved to be a lot better than I had assumed, I think all of us were surprised when they equalized to 1-1 after we gained the lead in the 20th minute with Darren Lynch’s goal. Brennan, from Wolves, fought like crazy and gave us the lead, 2-1 in the 78th minute. That was also the final score.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/120.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-120.html)

We dominated the game against Sweden but only managed to score the one goal; we were already through to the next phase so I didn’t want the lads to exhaust themselves.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/121.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-121.html)
http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/122.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-122.html)

Facing England in the quarter-final and ridiculing them will be a game that I will always remember. 4-0 against big brother, the English was ashamed and we had proven who the new champions of the UK were. Lynch scored another 2 goals in that game and proved to be quite a good replacement of O’Donoghue.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/123.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-123.html)

Another early goal in the 20th or so minute against Germany punctured their morale and confidence, the remainder of that game consisted of a positioning-war on the midfield with few or no chances in front of goal. 1-0 to Ireland.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/124.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-124.html)

After 27 minutes we were down by 2 goals against a much more speedy Holland compared to what we had experienced during the group stage. Lynch answered our prayers with a goal in the 38th minute to give us some feeling of still being in the game. James Campbell who had replaced O’Connor as an MC for the final equalized in the 69th minute – the game was open again. Some nervous minutes passed as we progressed through normal time, and extra-time, and over-time. It was to be settled by penalties. Scoring and missing identical to Holland after 4 rounds of penalties meant that the score was 4-4 in total. Stam scored an excellent 5th penalty which gave them a 5-4 advantage which Foley unfortunately couldn’t turn into 5-5. We had lost yet another gold but also won another silver. The boys were extremely upset; especially Byrne and O’Donoghue (who only played the first game) were inconsolerable.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1634/125.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1634-125.html)

Even though we had lost I was still extremely pleased with our performances and in particular with Darren Lynch. Benched in Burley and following them down to the championship in the upcoming season he scored 5 goals and became the best goalscorer in the European Championship 2026. Kudos!

The game against Belarus was a great example of a stable home game against inferior competition. 2 goals scored by the end of the first half (Campbell & Cunningham, that was Cunningham’s first goal for Ireland) and the game was pretty much over. Debutant Sheridan then went off and sealed the game, 3-0 Ireland.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1641/269.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1641-269.html)

Rubbish game, rubbish passing and overall rubbish performances. A very dull game where mistakes got the better hand of both teams, might as well have ended 0-0. Cunningham and Fitzpatrick both screwed up big-time and let Moshe Ben-David through – 1-0 Israel in the 90th minute. Fecking shite.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1641/270.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1641-270.html)

England scored the game’s first and only goal in the 16th minute through a great shot by Dave Murphy. We tried and fought hard to win ground, and did quite well at it too – but when O’Donoghue was injured in the 42nd minute we lost all edge and eventually also the game.

Group 7

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1641/271.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1641-271.html)

Terrible start to the group and I believe we have to focus on a 2nd place now, no way England will lose their point advantage!

Back in Galway I had no time to settle in again – in two days we were facing Young Boys (Switzerland) in the 2nd round of qualifications to the Champions League. Having no time to sign any players I had to rely on the current squad, which wasn’t all that bad. We didn’t have a class striker or a decent goalkeeper, but the rest of the squad was decent enough, Declan Donnelly in particular was a talented and versatile player on the left side of the pitch. On away ground we managed to hold 0-0 against Young Boys. For the 2nd game in Galway I had signed a few players and was very hopeful for a good result. Niklas Bärkroth, Richie Towell, Jonathon Williams and Shaun Timmins were all well-established (but perhaps TOO established – bunch of old geezers) footballers – it showed in our 2-0 win against the Young Boys. Against Fenerbache in the 3rd round we played the first game on Terryland Park – and what an inspiring game it was! 1-0 victory and zero shots from the Turks, a promising result! A very similar game was then played in Istanbul but no goals were scored, the real Champions League was awaiting us.

Our league performances were stable, but not great. Winning by the odd goal doesn’t do much to relax a manager and I was shitting myself through the first few games. A decisive 2-0 game against Shamrock in September was the beginning of our current streak, currently 5 games without losing. It felt damn good that win too! A miscalculation in the League Cup left us and Longford Town on 4 points each, but they progressed because of a better goal difference. A bad result for us, but the league and CL were still our main priorities for this season.

After 4 games we are tied with Lens on 4 points in Group B, 1 point ahead are Münster. Charlton will most likely win the group with a current a 4 point gap down to Münster. Our first game is still our best game, 2-1 win over Lens on Stade Félix Bollaert was a great result considering how the game looked from the bench.

Tactics-wise I’m currently trying to play a 4-1-1-3-1 but I have to switch to a 3-2-1-3-1 during CL-games since we don’t have enough registered players to fit 2 DC’s in the squad. I normally switch Bärkroth’s and Gallagher’s positions whenever suitable to change an outcome of a game.

I’m very happy with the signing of David de Gea, although he will only serve as a backup-keeper behind Mark Whelan (who I’ve brought with me from Galway -> Wolves -> Galway) his presence will inspire our youngsters.

We needed a miracle if we were to progress to the 2nd groupstage of Champions League – this time around, we didn’t get one. A weak effort against Lens (1-3 on Terryland Park) and a dull 1-1 game against Münster left us last in the group with 5 points. An okay result, but I’m hoping for so much more next season.

I had nothing to complain about in the league though, still unbeaten with 16 games without a defeat. Our old record is 30 games without a defeat and I think we’re good enough to beat it, but we’ll just have to see – all the margins need to be on our side. Lately the results have been improving A LOT – of the last 8 games we’ve won 4 of them with a 5 goal margin – pretty spectacular. We owe a lot of the recent super-success to Alfredsson and Sandberg, the dynamite swedes that make up our central midfield. They’ve lifted the rest of the lads up to the skies and more or less secured the gold for us. Sandberg was brought over from Sweden on a bosman deal – another 6 players were signed by us of which only 2 have played games with the first team this season – Shaun Riley (from Wolves) and Mattias Björk (from Swedish club Friska Viljor). Riley cost us 1M and we got Björk for 325K, I don’t doubt that they will repay us in results. Riley for instance have played 14 games scoring 7 goals and 4 assists – a great record! He can’t be compared with Sandberg though, 13 games – 4 goals – 10 assists!

Maxine has been whining quite a lot about nausea over the last few weeks, I’m hoping that it’s another boy and she’s hoping that it’s flu – instead of peeing on the little stick she has scheduled a doctor’s appointment, fair enough I said.

Looking forward to the quarter-finals in the senior challenge cup!

Our first game of the year in Group 7 ended quite nicely, a 3-0 win with 2 goals scored by O’Donoghue was an indicator of good form – especially against such a decent opponent as Bosnia.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1651/192.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1651-192.html)

The Belarus-game didn’t quite go according to plan. O’Donoghue scored in the 10th minute which gave us a lot of confidence – we became overconfident. We let them come back in the game and then the inevitable happened, 1-1. The Belarusians were happy with a draw and we had no proper mentality to come back and take the lead.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1651/193.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1651-193.html)

We beat the shit out of Peru in the first friendly game of the year and went home with a nice 3-0 victory, goals scored by O’Donoghue, Lynch and McCarthy.

We’re currently last in the 2nd placed teams “group” and have a few difficult games left to go. We better prove ourselves and get 2 wins out of the 3 remaining games – Israel, England and Bosnia.

With 29 games played and 7 to go we were champions. No big surprise really as we had dominated from start to finish. We took it easy with the celebrations since we still had the Senior Challenge Cup which could grant us the double. I was also focused on the old “Most Team Points”-record that Shamrock Rovers got a few seasons back, 89 points would be difficult to beat but we proved to be men enough for the challenge. We finished with an amazing 91 points, 29 points ahead of Shamrock on their 2nd place. With the cup final just one week away I still forbade all wild celebrations, I wanted the lads to be in tip-top shape for the game against Longford Town. A rather boring – but violent game (left hook by our Gallagher in the 4th minute of the game) was executed perfectly by our lads, 2-1 was all that it took to get us the double! We partied like it was New Year’s Eve 1999 (not that I remember) and got absolutely pissed. Maxine was waiting twins so she had to call it a night quite early and she wasn’t exactly thrilled when she heard me breaking and falling on stuff at 07:30 AM. Luckily she was only angry for a couple of weeks – that’s right, a couple of weeks.

The town is growing quite rapidly at the moment; an additional 10.000 people will inhabit the city by the end of August. After talking with some of my old mates at Murphy’s & O’Toole they’ve agreed to sponsor us for the next five seasons. We’re also having discussions about expanding the stadium with their capital but we’ll see what happens there.

For better luck in CL next season I'm sending out my scouts around Europe to find real talented players - this will let the McSheepherders get their very well-deserved vacation, at last.

An additional 8000 seats and converting all stands makes it a 18000 all-seater stadium with under-soil heating! Great news!

We got a good start of the season by easily winning the Super Cup – 3-0 against Sligo Rovers, 1-0 against Longford Town and 3-0 against Shamrock Rovers (feck you Shamrock!). Some decent players were signed to us and some less decent players were sold. Carl Heath had had a great last season but a 1.4M offer from Barnsley was too good to reject. Other than that no big names were sold. Conor Clifford and Richie Towell retired from professional football, I was especially disappointed to see Towell go. Tony McCabe left us on a free transfer and I was sad to see him go, but I knew his career was over as 33-year old. Of the guys that came in 2 players were rather well-known:
- Phil Fowler was signed on a free transfer, 43 caps for Wales and more than 10 seasons in the English Premier League is what he has accomplished at the age of 32.
- Sean Malone, one of my fav strikers when I was managing Wolves, he came to us on a free transfer.

Since our Irish rivals have been utter shit in the European Cups for the last few seasons we now have to qualify for CL all the way from the 1st round. Not that big of a deal really this season though, FK Baku was no challenge (0-2 A, 3-0 H). In the 2nd round we were seeded against Fenerbahce (again, I know…) and the first game was played in Istanbul. It was a tight game that eventually gave us a pretty good result for the rematch in Galway, 2-2. Back home we showed them our true colours and scored 4 goals (!) while conceding 3 (which is shitloads for Mark Whelan…). Seeded against Anderlecht in the 3rd and final qualifying round and we’ve just played the first of two games, 0-0 on home ground means I’ll be on the bottle in Brussels. If we were to qualify for the group stage in CL I’ve calculated that it’d be worth financially somewhere between 2.4M-2.6M for us.

35-year old Bärkroth has started this season better off than the last one, 8 goals and 3 assists in 9 games and an incredible 4 goals against Cork City shows that he means business this season. This incredible form has paved the road for our unbeaten record this season, 3 games – 3 wins so far.

Back home it’s fucking chaos, Maxine is more demanding now during her second pregnancy so I have to be her errand boy. Scotch has no idea what the fuck is going on so he’s basically walking around being confused all the time. We haven’t spoken to him about the pregnancy yet but I guess we’ll have to soon.

On home grounds against Israel we showed those assholes who we really are. 3-0, two goals by O’Donoghue and one by Campbell was a real demonstration of strength – I had almost forgotten how much our form depends on those two gentlemen. 10 goals in 29 caps for Campbell (who plays as a central midfielder) and 27 goals in 30 caps for O’Donoghue speaks its own language.

After a few more league games our form turned bad – Bärkroth suddenly acted like an ent from Lord of the Rings on the pitch and Sandberg was unhappy about his situation (he wants to move to a bigger club). In an effort to strengthen the squad I signed Jack Wilshere on a free transfer which was a great signing. Loic Nestor was brought in for some defensive versatility and Shaun Lodge was brought in for the same reason, but attacking-wise. 2 losses and 1 draw after 14 league games indicates that this won’t be a new record season, I’m hoping to make the necessary changes and bring in some proper stars for the next season.

Like so many times before, our CL-adventure was over after the 1st group stage. We somehow managed to clinch a 3rd place though and will play Twente in the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup.

Still alive in the league cup and the quarter-final against Shamrock Rovers is coming up, I’m hopeful we’ll win the title this year.

On a more personal note we’ve just had our second child – our baby boy Rye was born on the 5th November and has been a blessing to our family. I don’t know if we’re done with the baby-making, but for now we are very content.

England - Ireland 1-1
It was a tight display between two good teams, a lot of battle and less finesse. After O’Donoghue’s 1-0 for us in the 55th minute I thought we would win for sure but one of my all-time favorite players, Michael Lovell, equalized in the 90th minute which meant that the game against Bosnia would seal our fate.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1665/11.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1665-11.html)

Ireland – Bosnia 4-0
I honestly believed that the Bosnians would put up a fight against us, but I was wrong. After 57 minutes we had 3-0 and it was in the bag – O’Connor had the last word with 4-0 in the 80th minute.

We were ready for the playoffs!
http://www.image-share.com/upload/1665/13.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1665-13.html)

Germany – Ireland 1-2
The first half of the game was intense, 1-0 to us in the 28th minute through O’Donoghue was followed by two eventful minutes (40th-41st minute) where Germany equalized and we regained the lead. The second half was the complete opposite of the 1st half, uneventful and seriously lame. We held 2-1 which gave us a great benefit for the rematch in Dublin.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1665/14.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1665-14.html)

Ireland – Germany 0-1
We fought hard against the Germans and it was a rough game. We had somewhat of an advantage but were never able to score. Jensen’s 1-0 for Germany in the 65th minute made me a bit uncomfortable, but they didn’t have any other chances for the rest of the half. Now we had the chance of grabbing a medal in the upcoming WC in Uruguay.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1665/15.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1665-15.html)

After being sent out of the CL (by Newcastle indirectly) we pulled ourselves together and won against Derry City in the league with 2-0. Our good form in the league would continue and our form culminated in the 7-1 thrashing of UCD in which Gallagher scored an incredible 4 goals! Two straight wins against Shamrock followed - one in the cup and one in the league – we were then through to the semi-finals. A nice seeding against Division 1-side Cobh Ramblers resulted in an effortless 2-0 win which means we’ll be battling with Longford Town for the League Cup Trophy this season.

We managed to get a 2-1 win away at Twente which made me pretty confident for the rematch. A dull 0-0 at Terryland Park means we’re facing Schalke in the 4th round around March.

Almost 2M were spent on three new transfers, 1.5M for a promising 19-year old Danish centre back (Christian Jeppesen), 275K for a good midfielder from Celtic (Ross Ross) and 150K for a backup-midfielder from Sweden (Stefan Bergman).

With 12 games to go and 64 points we have a chance of breaking last season’s point record of 91 points. We’ll see how that goes…

After a somewhat shaky 2-1 win against Schalke we absolutely destroyed them in Germany. 6-0 (4 goals by Gallagher) was an absolute shock to myself and everyone else. Our extreme fortune (or skill) didn’t end there though, we embarrassed Milan with a 3-0 win (2 goals by Gallagher) on Terryland Park and then lost with 3-2 in Italy, but of course, we were through to the next round. In the semi-final we had to face HSV and it started off bad in the first game with a 2-1 loss in Germany. Two early red cards for HSV in the rematch made that game so much easier for us, 3-0.

By the 1st of May, the lads were exhausted. It had been a LONG season and it showed on their stamina. We had no chance against Le Mans which was a shame, an easy 2-0 win for them and 3 critical injuries for us was not a good ending to the season, but we did get our second silver from the UEFA Cup and crowned that season the best ever in Galway, two cup golds (Senior Challenge Cup, League Cup), gold in the league and a silver (UEFA Cup). It was a great accomplishment for us all!

Time for the World Cup in Uruguay!

Ireland – Portugal 2-1
A tight game which I was sure of would end in a draw, fortunately O’Donoghue’s determination resulted in two goals for us and a victory.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1671/38.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1671-38.html)

Ireland – Liberia 3-0
An easy breezy win – I told the lads not to exhaust themselves and they followed my lead, it still got us a 3-0 win!

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1671/39.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1671-39.html)

Ireland – Argentina 1-0
Argentina dominated throughout the entire game but never managed to score (much thanks to Mark Whelan). In the 85th minute Eddie O’Sullivan, who came on from the bench in the 66th minute, scored the game’s only goal which meant 9 points for us in the group and that Portugal would take the 2nd place instead of Argentina on their 4 points.

http://www.image-share.com/upload/1671/40.jpg (http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1671-40.html)

Ireland – Japan 2-3
I still don’t know what happened in this game. From the bench it looked like the Japanese were never going to score, but they had loads of chances that seemed to pop up straight out of fucking nowhere, and managed to score three times, even though none of my lads was particularly crappy. This was my last game as a manager of Ireland; I feel I’ve done my fair share and that the football association needs a new face instead of mine.

We failed miserably in the Super Cup when I tried out some new players. 3-0 win against Shelbourne was the only good news because then followed a 3-1 loss against Shamrock (feck Shamrock!!) and a 1-0 loss against Derry City. Last in the Super Cup group and reigning champions, it was a bit embarrassing.

For the first qualification round in the Champions League we had Anorthosis Famagusta as our opponents. A devastating 0-1 loss at Terryland Park was overshadowed by the great 3-0 game down in Cyprus, we didn’t let them fire away a single shot at goal. OFK Beograd was a less dramatic opponent, an easy 3-1 win at home was followed by an even easier 5-1 win down in Serbia (2 goals each for two of our new signings, Högström and Bidegaray). For the first time in many many years we got a sucky opponent for the third and final round. No surprises against Swedish side Landskrona, 2-0 at home and 3-1 away was stable enough to reach the group stage of Champions League. We were placed in the same groups as Wolves (!), Ajax and Besiktas. We started off brilliantly with a 5-2 win against Wolves in England, the fans cheered for me big-time before the game began, but when the game was over I didn’t hear any more cheering for me, how about that… We drew against Ajax on Terryland, 1-1. A good result considering Mark Whelan got sent off in the 28th minute. We lost against Besiktas with 2-1 but got our revenge in the next game with a solid 3-0 win on Terryland. The 5th and final game was a tight display between two great teams, but we somehow managed to score the game’s only goal against Wolves and we were already set for the 2nd group stage, great effort by the lads!

League Cup quarter-final is coming up after two solid wins against Mervue Utd (5-0) and Salthill Devon (6-0.

We haven’t got the flying start in the league that I was hoping for with 7 wins and 4 draws in 11 games, but we’re currently in 1st place so I can’t really whine about it.

I’m absolutely delighted with our midfield, Haglund and Corti (DMC’s), Bidegaray and Högström have really taken their roles brilliantly. Högström in particular has a great future ahead of him!

Easy as a breeze we sailed into the new year and new challenges. An away-loss against Ajax (1-0) concluded the first group stage of the champions league, for the second group phase we were seeded against Swedish-side Elfsborg, Roma and Valencia. The first game in Borås Sweden was a disappointment; a 2-1 loss wouldn’t do as any good when we had much better opponents in the group to worry about. Luckily, the lads put in solid performances and we won both games which resulted in a tie for the 1st position in the group with Elfsborg who had managed to pull off an impressive 2-1 win over Valencia on Spanish ground.

The league performances were all solid since we had a good rotation going in the squad, the lads wanted to play and they were all showing it. Alfredsson and Ward were sold for lacking that hunger, and 750K for each of them was a good enough incentive for me to sell them. Some additional players were brought in but Moberg and Fiore were two offensive players that I had big hopes for. I had scouted Moberg for some years when his contract with Elfsborg finally expired, and we picked him up. Fiore on the other hand was bought from Atalanta for 2.2M; due to the language barriers I wasn’t expecting him to perform his best until next year.

The first leg of the League Cup Final ended 1-1 against Shamrock, we had a major advantage throughout the whole game but failed to capitalize on our chances.

I’ve been thinking about resigning after this season and spend more time with my family, or perhaps take on some other role within the organization so that I will still be involved. Nothing is set in stone, but I am seriously thinking about it.

Now there's a blast from the past!

Good to see this back!

First game of CM I've played since august, feck me!

Don't know for how much longer I will continue this, I'm thinking about ending it with a twist so that I can potentially pick it up again some time in the future

As a sign of what a great season it had been for us, I was contacted by two huge english football clubs that wanted me as their manager. I wasn't going to leave my boys though, although the offers were tempting.

Welcome back. You've been missed.

Some good results and an offer from United is not a bad way to return to the fold.

The league cup went our way, we mastered Shamrock on every level but only managed to score two goals, fortunately, they only scored one. The first out of three titles was now in our hands.
We kept dominating the league, as usual, and became champions in the 33rd round when we beat our only contender, Derry City, with 5-2. It was clear to everyone that we were the obvious winners of the title, no dispute there.

We had one more game against Derry City, the game that would decide if we would win the triple, or they would get their hands on one title of this year. A decisive 2-0 victory meant that the triple was secured, but we waited with the celebrations.

A 1-0 loss to Valencia could mean trouble for us in the Champions League, but we stood up for ourselves in the last two games of the second group stage, and won against Elfsborg 3-0, and Roma 2-1, things were looking good for us. With Swansea in the quarter-final I started doubting our chances; this feeling of doubt was only reinforced by the first game in which we fell short on home ground, 2-1. Alan Gallagher had other plans for the rematch; single-handedly he scored two goals in what eventually became a 3-0 victory. In the semi-finals we had to face Valencia once again, and they wanted to win as desperately as we did. A tight game in Valencia resulted in a 1-0 victory for the home team, we prepared for the second leg and prayed to the gods. God turned out to be Phil Fowler who scored an early goal for us in the 4th minute, making the total standings 1-1 between us and Valencia. The game progressed, but saw no goals. In overtime, no side seemed interested in ending the game before penalties, but Jean-Lous Riou was interested. Subbed 17 times of the bench this season, the frenchie came on hungry in the 85th minute. In a power-effort in the 113th minute, Riou scored the winning goal.
Facing Arsenal in the final was not an easy task. I could see that the boys were tired from playing over 60 games this season (Whelan holds the season-record with 65 played games). After Murphy scoring 1-0 for Arsenal in the 8th minute I thought the game was dead. Fowler presented himself though in the 10th minute and equalized. This was very misleading to our supporters, since what followed after was nothing more than a trashing. I’m glad we could keep the goals down to 4-1.

All in all, winning the triple was a great achievement, and coming second in the Champions League was the best European cup performance of my career. This was the best season of my career and I will let it be the last season of my career. I’ve finished with a bang and feel like I can now spend more time with my family. Perhaps a bit dull, but it is something that I truly long for.

Sad to see this end, but at least we have a proper ending. Unlucky v Arsenal, but other than that 1 game a sensational season to finish on. Enjoy spending tht time with the family, although I hope it bores you and you'll return again.

I thought that a proper ending would be better than to see the savegame crash at some random time in the future. Had no chance against Arsenal, the stamina get fucked up by the middle of may so there wasn't anything to do - a pretty disappointing bug in the game :(

I think Galway will return in the future, in some format ;)
