We're going back to 1978.

Gary Lineker is 17 years old.

And signs his first professional Contract with Leicester City.

We'll track his career.
And see if he can perform better this time around with today's crop of players.

In Lineker's first season with Leicester City, they were playing in the old English 2nd Division. So the equivalent of the Championship of today, which is where Leicester City find themselves as Gary joins them for the start of the season.

In real life he played 7 games scoring 1 goal as Leicester City finished 17th just 3 points above the Relegation Zone.

Will his Champ Man Re-Lived Career be any better?
Hang about to find out......

No yellow cards in his entire career, bet he doesn't match that.

Also you'll need to wib/wob him so he never leaves the penalty box :D

Not sure he ever scored a single goal outside the box?

I remember Van Nistelrooy only scored one for United and that was deflected against Charlton.

Gary Lineker Signs Professional Contract with Leicester City.

Leicester City have announced that youth team striker Gary Lineker has signed a contract with the club.
The 17 year old has been one of the most prolific goalscorers for the Youth Side.

He has been involved with the club since he was 14 years old and is glad to finally sign on the dotted line.
"I've always dreamt of playing in a proper match for Leicester City and can't wait to pull on the shirt when I get chance.
I will give it my all." Said an excited Lineker.

Manager Nigel Pearson offered hope that Lineker would be involved this season.
"He's a terrific lad, hard working and honest. I'm sure he'll get a chance to shine at some point this season."

However with David Nugent and Chris Wood, experienced front men, also in the Squad,
BBC Sport believes games will be hard to come by this season for Lineker in the Championship.

In Real Life.
Gary Lineker Made his debut for Leicester City as an 18 Year old on the 1st January 1979 in a 2-0 home win against Oldham.

http://www.sporting-heroes.net/content/thumbnails/00163/16179-zoom.jpg

But on the 1st January in my game in 2002, Lineker had made just 3 appearances for the reserves.

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6821/jf5y.jpg

But Leicester City were doing ok without him. Placed 3rd in the League after 26 games.

Nugent Injury Rocks Leicester City

http://e2.365dm.com/12/09/504x378/nugent1024_2833086.jpg?20120923155527

David Nugent suffered an injury in training this morning and will miss today's match.
It is unsure how long the Striker, who has 13 goals this season, will be out for.
It is expected a shuffle in formation will allow Nigel Pearson to play just 1 striker in the forthcoming matches.
This is a blow to Young Striker Gary Lineker who will have been hoping to make his debut for Leicester City.
Instead he will have to settle for a place on the bench.

LOCAL LAD SET FOR CITY DEBUT

http://www.toffs.com/images/1266.gif

Rumour has it that Nigel Pearson will today hand Gary Lineker a start and his debut for Leicester City.
David Nugent is still not fully fit and Pearson is going with 2 up front today against Burnley.
City need 3 points to push on for the promotion places in the Championship.
And despite Lineker not thriving in three games he has had for the reserves he is held in high regard at the club.

Going into the final game of the Championship Season.
Any one of Leeds, Leicester or Hull City can seal Automatic Promotion to the Premier League.
With 1 game to go, Hull are in 2nd place on 83 points.
Leicester City are in 3rd place on 82 points.
With Leeds in 4th place on goal difference.
If Hull slip up at Home, all Leicester need is 3 points away at Huddersfield.
If they also slip up a win for Leeds will see them up in 2nd place.
Joining Champions Bolton in the Premier League.

Lineker didn't play in much of the run in.
Only making 5 appearances all season and not getting on the score-sheet in any of them.

Nigel Pearson leaves Leicester City to take up Swansea Role.

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/About/General/2011/11/16/1321475406824/Nigel-Pearson-007.jpg

Nigel Pearson has left Leicester City to take over as Swansea Manager.
Pearson couldn't resist the offer to manager in the Premier League.
It comes after the Swansea Manager Brian Laudrup took over at Newcastle.
Pearson's assistant Lee Bradbury has taken over team affairs on a rolling contract.
Young Striker Gary Lineker hopes this will lead to more game time. He said...
"I didn't have a problem with Nige, but I didn't feel like I was given a fair chance in the team.
The new gaffer has always understood my style of play and hopefully that will bear fruit this season."

Leicester City Off to a Good Start in New Season.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/63/Leicester02.png/175px-Leicester02.png

Leicester City were off to a flying start in the Championship as they look to get out of the division this season.
They collapsed towards the end of last season missing out on Automatic Promotion on the Final day.
Then losing in the playoff Final against Middlesbrough.
This time out they won the first 4 league games.
However they have one just 1 more in the 4 games after that but find themselves in 4th place after 8 games.
Gary Lineker scored in the 2-0 win over Barnsley early in the season to record his first goal for the club.
However he has scored just once more in the following 6 league games without playing well and his place is under threat.
Although nearly all of his league performances have been cut short with him being subbed off.
Sometimes immediately after half time.
Although Lineker has looked better in the League Cup.
Scoring all 3 of Leicester's goals in the 2 wins so far in the Competition.

LEICESTER CITY IN TIGHT PROMOTION BATTLE AS SEASON HITS MIDWAY POINT
http://fcbusiness.co.uk/cms/thesite/public/uploads/news_large/1309940888_641.jpg

City currently lie in 3rd place. Level on points but behind Brentford who occupy the 2nd automatic promotion place.
They are also just 2 points behind Fulham in top spot but both those sides have a game in hand on City.
Cardiff City in 7th place and outside the playoff's are just 3 points further back making it incredibly tight at the top.
Young Striker Gary Lineker has been dropped from the starting line up.
He started in all the first 8 League games. But has since started just 5 of the following 15 games.
He has also come off the bench 4 times but has not registered a goal in those 9 appearances.
If Leicester are to win promotion they need Lineker playing to his potential when given a chance.

Leicester City have moved up into 2nd place in the Championship.
With 12 games to go they'll hope for a better finish that last season.
Then they picked up 13 points from the last 11 games to fall 1 point short.
They are only 1 point behind Fulham in top spot and are 5 ahead of Brentford in 3rd.
Young Striker Gary Lineker has made 8 League appearances in the last 11 games.
5 starts and 3 coming from the bench scoring 4 goals.
If he keeps this form up he'll get the regular start he craves.

LEICESTER CITY FAIL TO SEAL AUTOMATIC PROMOTION AGAIN
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/66356000/jpg/_66356381_gestede.jpg

Despite being 5 points clear with 12 games to go. Leicester City have again failed to clinch Promotion.
Instead they fell 7 points behind Cardiff to allow them and Fulham the Automatic Spots to the Premier League.
In a similar vein to last season, Leicester City won just 3 of their final 11 games.
Drawing and losing 4 each to pick up 13 points.
Whilst they had the best defence in the league, they scored the lowest number of goals in the championship.
Scoring just 56 in 46 league games.
Young Striker Gary Lineker was restored to the line up for the final 10 games of the season scoring 4 goals.
But this wasn't enough as Leicester City again have to settle for the lottery of the playoffs.

Lineker Hat-trick See's off Southampton in Playoff Semi Final
http://www.midlandsmemorabilia.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/E-L/gary-lineker-leicester-city.jpg

A Gary Lineker inspired Leicester City saw off Southampton this evening in the Playoff Semi Final.
They will now face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Final next weekend.
After a tight 0-0 first leg, Lineker was the difference as Leicester ran out 3-0 winners on the night.
It was a stunning performance by Lineker who will cherish his first hat-trick in the professional game
after sealing his hat-trick with the final kick of the game.
It came at a time when some members of the club's hierarchy were unsure if Lineker was good enough to cut it at this level.
If Leicester City can perform again next week he may have to raise his level even further in the Premier League next season.

Leicester City seal Premier League return after 5 goal thriller in Playoff Final with Brighton

http://news.images.itv.com/image/file/203519/image_update_80cd0cf10bdd15e5_1368372463_9j-4aaqsk.jpeg

Leicester City have made up last season's disappointment at Wembley after this time winning a 5 goal game with Brighton.
It was anything but plain sailing for Leicester City despite taking the lead in the 2nd minute.
Gary Lineker carrying on where he left on in the Semi Final by scoring the opener.
But Brighton fought back and were soon 2-1 up and looking to break Leicester hearts again.
Leicester were awarded a Penalty before half time to make it 2-2.
Ben Marshall scored the decisive 5th goal in the 2nd half as Leicester City held onto their nerve and the win.

LINEKER VALUE RISING

After 4 goals in his last 2 games, including a hat-trick in the Semi Final Playoff, Leicester City fans have said they believe Gary Lineker can fire the goals to keep Leicester up in the Premier League next season.
Lineker is still young at 19 years old and it's immense pressure to put on the young lad's shoulders.
He had an on off season in the Championship.
He started the season with indifferent form scoring 2 goals in 8 league games.
And was dropped for a while and made appearances from the bench and didn't get a run in the side.
But towards the end of the season he was favoured again and finished the season with 8 goals in his last 13 games.
This gave him an overall league record of 14 goals in 38 appearances.
More of that will be needed if Leicester City are to survive in the Premier League.

Young Leicester City Striker Gary Lineker Stars for England Under 21 side
http://www.midlandsmemorabilia.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/gary-lineker-ussr-england-press-photo-26-march-1986.jpg

Gary Lineker has made a blistering start to his England Under 21 Career.
On his debut for the National Under 21 side Lineker scored 2 goals against Estonia as Connor Wickham scored a brace as well to complete a 4-1 win.
In Lineker's 2nd game, he went one better scoring a hat-trick away at Northern Ireland in a 5-2 rout.
And to cap it off, his 3rd game for the Under 21's finished in a 4-2 win over arch rivals Scotland at Old Trafford as Lineker again bagged a hat-trick and the match ball.
As Lineker approaches his 20th birthday a few more performances like this and he'll surely be getting called up to the main squad.

Leicester City in Bottom 3 Without a Win After 9 Games

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/275788/Article/images/18434836/4665153.jpg

After 9 Premier League Games Leicester City are in the Relegation Zone.
They have actually only lost 2 games. But with 7 draws they have not managed to record a victory yet on their return to the top flight.
The defence is pretty tight with just 8 goals conceded but at the other end just 6 goals have gone in.
It is early days and City also have a game in hand on some teams around them.
Leicester City started the season with 4 straight draws, but with 3 of those games at home they were hoping for at least one set of 3 points.
But their only defeats this season were away to Newcastle and Man City and both of those finished 1-0.
So this paper believes they'll get out of trouble once the team find their scoring boots having scoring in just 4 of the 9 league games.
Young Striker Gary Lineker has scored 2 league goals and has started in all 9 games. But is being replaced often very early in the 2nd half in most games and so is not looking his best.

Leicester City Still in Bottom Three as League heads into 2nd Half

http://img.ibtimes.com/www/data/images/full/2012/03/19/250101-soccer-fa-cup-quarter-finals-chelsea-v-leicester-city-stamford-bridge.jpg

After 19 Premier League Games Leicester City are still in the Relegation Zone.
They have managed to win just 1 game in 19.
They have actually only lost 6 games. But with 12 draws they have just 15 points from 57 available.
The defence is extremely solid but this is down to the unadventurous style of play.
Leicester City have conceded just 16 goals. The 4th best in the Division.
But their problems are at the other end, having scored just 10 goals in 19 games.
If this rate doesn't improve then Leicester City will be relegated back to the Championship after 1 season in the Division.
Leicester City's one win was at Home against QPR who are the only side below them.
But that was 9 games ago. Since then they have lost 4 and drawn 5 games.
Some Leicester fans are blaming the Management who appear to have the strikers running away from goal.
But some are pointing the fingers squarely at the strikers, who need to score more.
Gary Lineker has just 4 goals in 19 games. But that is 40% of the teams total.

Draw Specialists Leicester City Out of Bottom 3

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/67420000/jpg/_67420783_forestvleicestergetty.jpg

With just 9 games to go Leicester City are out of the Relegation Zone.
They have been improving of late.
In the last 10 matches they have won 3, Drawn 5 and lost just 2.
This form has seen them rise up to 15th in the table and now lie 5 points clear of the relegation zone.
If this recent form continues there is no way City will be drawn back into the relegation dog fight.
But Leicester somehow managed to score just 7 goals in the last 10 games but conceded just 6 goals.
They are currently on a 5 match unbeaten run.
Gary Lineker scored 2 goals to take his league tally to 6. He'll be hoping to add several more before the end of the season to give himself a respectable tally for his first season in the top flight.

Leicester City dragged back into Relegation Battle
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/66980000/jpg/_66980280_leicester2.jpg

Leicester City have lost 4 out of 5 games to drop towards the relegation trap door.
Luckily there was one win in that run otherwise they would find themselves in the Drop zone with just 4 games to go.
But as it stands they are in 15th place, just 2 points above Q.P.R in 18th.
In this bad run they scored 2 goals and conceded 10 goals.
It started with a 3-1 away defeat to Everton ending their 5 game unbeaten run.
It was followed up by 3-0 defeats at Home to Arsenal and Away to Man Utd.
And the worst result was a 1-0 home defeat to West Ham, a side just below Leicester City with a game in hand.
But luckily City managed a 1-0 win away at Sunderland in a 6 Pointer in mid-week to give themselves hope.
Sunderland remain in the bottom three.
In the final 4 games of the season, Leicester have 3 games at home.
There they play Stoke, West Brom and Liverpool with one away match at Bolton.

Leicester City Avoid Relegation With 7 Points From Last 4 Games.

Leicester City celebrate staying up

Leicester City won 2 and Drew 1 of their last 4 games to retain their Premier League status for another season.
They followed up their vital win at Sunderland with a 1-0 home win over Stoke City in another 6 pointer.
They then went and drew 0-0 at Bolton to go within a win of Safety.
And they achieved that win with a 2-0 home win over West Brom at home.
It didnt matter anyway as each side in the bottom 3 failed to win and Leicester City were safe.
So it was a party atmosphere in the final game, a 1-0 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool.
Leicester finished the 38 game season scoring just 22 goals. The worst by far in the league with Stoke next scoring 36.
But they had the 3rd best defence in the league conceding just 33 goals.

Young Striker Gary Lineker will take pride in his first season at this level.
The young forward playing in a very defensive side scored 9 league goals.
He didn't stand out and will hope to play better next season in the league.
But his early season form for the England Under 21 side shows that he has ability.

ok well at the half-way update it looked like a repeat of real life, the team were heading down and although new lineker was a regular he hadn't scored many.
I had them as a dead cert to go down, and repeat history, but they didn't!

IRL Lineker was not used much this season

New Lineker (Linewker?)
P42 G10

Real Lineker seems to have never made an U21 appearance either.

One Win in Seven Games Not Good Enough for Leicester City

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/64915000/jpg/_64915915_craig_bellamy_get.jpg

Leicester City are again struggling down at the wrong end of the table.
They are only out of the bottom 3 by 1 point, but 2 sides below them have games in hand.
It is a worrying start for Leicester who flirted with relegation all last season.
They have one won and lost 5 of the opening 7 games.
They have tried to invest in the summer but the defence doesn't seem as solid as last season.
And the attack are struggling again with just 3 goals in the first 7 games.
Young England Under-21 Striker Gary Lineker has 2 of these goals, but isn't playing to his best.
But again, the manager's tactics are lacking.
The poor start to the season also includes going out of the League Cup on Penalties to Hartlepool of the 3rd tier.

Leicester City fans have called for the Manager to resign after a string of dour performances
One fan said "I don't mind the defeats. It's the manner of them."
Leicester City are again embroiled in the relegation scrap for Premier League survival.
They have won just 3 games all season and we are at the half way point.
But maybe more worryingly they have only scored 9 goals in 19 league games.
Leicester are in 18th place and have 17 points thanks to 8 draws but their failure to score is turning winnable games into draws.
The fans are sticking behind their players but blaming Lee Bradbury the manager for his negative and defensive tactics.
With 5 goals, Gary Lineker has scored 55% of their league goals.
He had interest in him from Everton and Arsenal earlier in the Season but any bid failed to materialise.

Leicester City Climb Away From Relegation Battle
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/66094000/jpg/_66094339_66093564.jpg

Leicester City have won 4 of the last 9 games to pull away from the relegation zone..
They now find themselves in 14th place with 10 games to go.
They are a massive 9 points clear of Relegation.
This is unbelievable as they have only scored 15 goals in the 28 league games so far.
The New Year started with a timely 1-0 home win against another side who are down at the bottom. Middlesbrough.
Then a defeat away at Hull City in the FA Cup 3rd round was followed by two 1-0 league defeats to Man Utd and Tottenham.
But then 3 massive games were to come. All against sides around them.
Leicester City won all three games 1-0 to climb 9 points from games that were 6 pointers.
They followed this up with a 2-2 draw against Southampton.
Next they are away at Liverpool and surely that's where the 4 match unbeaten run will end.
Gary Lineker has scored 4 goals in those 9 games and is looking to prove he can perform at this level.
He now has 9 for the season which equaled the number he got in the league last season.

Leicester City Survive in Premier League Once Again
http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Nottingham+Forest+v+Leicester+City+npower+w-v_YWmhIJ6l.jpg

Despite winning just 1 of the final 10 games, Leicester City finish in 17th place.
They finished with 35 points. Which many pundits believed wouldn't be enough to stay up.
But actually they stayed up by 6 points and with 3 games to go as the 3 sides below them were very poor.
They will need to improve for next season as it is hard to imagine any 3 sides having as poor a season when the next one gets under way.
Of the final 10 games. 8 were defeats and that puts Lee Bradbury's position as Manager surely under threat.
Many fans are surprised he has survived the season, but just when it looked like he was set for the axe, Leicester City won 3 games in a row in early February.
But a source inside the club is alleged to have been suggesting that a replacement is being sort during the off season.
Bradbury's negative tactics are the main reason the fans want a change.
Leicester City managed just 21 goals in 38 league games. But having conceded just 38, the defence does look solid.
Although they conceded 5 more than last season and scored 1 less.

There is a buzz around young Leicester City Striker, Gary Lineker
Lineker who is still only 21, has just helped Leicester City to Premier League Survival for the 2nd Season running.
He scored 13 of Leicester's 21 League goals.
And in a side that barely attacks he is taking a large percentage of his chances.
There are a few scouts in the crowd from the more established Premier League sides and surely
it is only a matter of time until one of them takes a punt on the England Under-21 Striker.

Leicester City have 8 points from 8 games despite scoring just 2 goals!
http://norfox.net/kit.ht4.jpg

Just 2 goals this season for Leicester City, but they both lead to 1-0 wins.
They were both scored by Gary Lineker. The Striker who turns 22 next month has only had a few chances too.
And taken 2 of them to give Leicester 6 points. They have also drawn 2 games 0-0.
They have then lost 4 games but are out of the Relegation Zone in 15th place.
Although these defensive tactics have kept Leicester City up for the last 2 seasons, surely their luck will run out at some point.
And Young Striker Lineker will surely be thinking about a move if this manager continues with these tactics or keeps his job.
West Brom's Manager is also having to deal with upset fans as they have scored just 3 goals in the opening 8 games.

Leicester City in the Drop Zone at Christmas

http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/58/281x351/180872_1.jpg
Lee Bradbury. Fans were singing "You're getting sacked in the morning"

After half of the 2005/06 Premier League Season Leicester City are in the Drop Zone.
When will the board be brave enough to make a change to the Management?
For 2 and a half season's now Lee Bradbury has not improved the side in the Premier League.
Instead he is relying on a young striker to take some of the few chances he is given per game.
Gary Lineker is that man and is doing the best he can. He has really come on this season and is performing well for the team.
He has scored 8 league goals in 19 matches. The rest of the team put together have only contributed 2 more.
It is tight at the bottom though and so any sort of run from Leicester City will give them hope of beating the drop again.
So can the board have any more patience with Lee Bradbury? A few more defeats and he'll surely be out of the door before its too late.

Lee Bradbury Holds Onto His Job After 4 Wins in 9 Games.

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/275788/Article/images/18745873/4770482.jpg

Despite just 5 goals in last 9 games, Leicester City pick up 13 points
They are now in 14th place and 4 points clear of the drop zone.
With 10 games left manager Lee Bradbury believes his side need just 2 wins to stay up.
"We've a 4 point gap. So with 2 wins and a couple of draws I don't think any of the sides at the bottom will be able to get us.
We've come together as a group. I'm so proud of the lads. They are all as honest as the day is long."
4 wins from 9 has given Bradbury some breathing space.
A large section of fans had gathered outside the ground around Christmas time to protest against his management.
But the board have faith that Bradbury can guide Leicester to safety for the 3rd season in a row.
Of the 5 goals scored in those 4 wins, Gary Lineker has scored 3 of them.
It is rumoured that Newcastle United have been taking a good look at Lineker and may come in at the end of the season with an offer.

Back to Back Wins Put Leicester Within Touching Distance of Safety

7 points from 5 games could have secured Leicester City's Premier League Status.
And kept the fans off the back of Manager Lee Bradbury.
After 2 defeats and a draw it was vital that Leicester took maximum points in the Home Game with West Ham.
Especially with 3 away games to follow.
And a single goal for Gary Lineker was enough to divide the sides and give City the 3 vital points.
After that they went away to Bottom of the Table, Sunderland.
Even with 6 games to go, they were more or less down.
And now after another 1-0 win for Leicester City, Sunderland are down despite it looking mathematically possible.
This is because the two sides they could catch have to play each other.
This is also good news for Leicester City.
They currently have a 6 point buffer with 5 games to go.

Leicester City Break Record for Lowest Goals Tally. But They Avoid the Drop
http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/275788/Article/images/19182674/4918603.jpg
Leicester City set a new record low for the number of goals scored.
Beating Derby County's record from 2007/08 when they scored 20.
Leicester City finished the season with 19 league goals. 2 less than they managed last season and 3 less than the year before that.
Somehow though, this was their best points tally. Registering 11 wins and Finishing with 40 points.
They were 6 points clear with 5 games to go. And then beat Sheffield United 2-1 to surely secure their status.
But Sheff Utd and Aston Villa went on a winning streak.
But luckily for Leicester City, Middlesbrough picked up 1 point from the final 5 games to fill the final relegation place.

Young Leicester City Striker Not Called Up to England Squad

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4fg95XFKO1qfxktpo1_500.jpg

Gary Lineker has not been included in the England Squad for World Cup 2006
The Leicester City Striker (22) who scored 13 Premier League goals for the 2nd Season running had been rumoured to be the 5th Striker in the side. But that was not the case.
A source close to England Manager Roy Hodgson suggested that Lineker was in the running but a late drop in form cost him any chance of a spot on the plane.
Lineker has now scored more than 50 goals for Leicester at only 22 and is being linked to bigger Premier League clubs.
Surely the Striker will be looking to move to a more attacking side. Although he has a good relationship with current manager Lee Bradbury and he may convince Lineker to give him another season at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City Manager Lee Bradbury Defends Himself Ahead of New Season

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/56596000/jpg/_56596716_bradbury.jpg

Leicester City Manager Lee Bradbury has claimed his defensive tactics are the only reason the club are still in the top flight.
"Without my astute tactical knowledge I doubt whether City would still be in this League." Said Bradbury.
"Yes, I'm defensive but I've got to keep this club up and with the players at my disposal I feel its the only way to stay up.
My thoughts are 'Don't get beat' and then we'll see if we can win.
I have relied on my strikers to score goals from the scraps they get fed, but it's working so far and if this club gets relegated I will step aside.
But at the moment we are competing in the toughest league in the World and we've stayed up for 3 seasons in a row." He added.

Leicester City 15th after 9 games

Only 2 defeats in 9 games sees Leicester City in 15th place.
However only 2 wins in those 9 games leave the fans with more complaints against Current Manager Lee Bradbury.
He was quoted before the start of the season defending his sides tactics after breaking the record for the Least Goals Scored.
And just 7 goals in 9 games will not keep the fans off his back. Young Striker Gary Lineker has started in good fashion scoring 5 of the 7 goals.
It all started well for Leicester City with 2 wins inside the first 5 games and Leicester have followed up with 4 draws in a row. Against Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Swansea.
But the latest result was a 3-1 home defeat to Oldham in the League Cup 3rd round.
Manager Lee Bradbury explained the result. "It was a time to try the youth players and we went with a different formation too and it didn't work. We can concentrate on the league until the FA Cup comes around."

Local Striker Gary Lineker Makes England Debut

http://www.sporting-heroes.net/content/thumbnails/00119/11816-zoom.jpg

Gary Lineker made his debut last night coming on for England in a 4-1 win over Hungary at Wembley.
Lineker replaced the injured Jake Sinclair in the 52nd minute and grabbed an assist as England continued their good start to the Euro 2008 Championship Qualifying.
Lineker will hope to get more game time for England and be involved in the team in the run up to Euro 2008 if England qualify.
He narrowly missed out on a place in the squad for the World Cup where England finished in 3rd place.
And with 5 goals in the opening 9 league games he is showing the type of form needed to be considered for England.

You have to have a certain admiration for Lee Bradbury. I don't think that I have ever seen a side play so consistently defensive over such a long period. I bet no human manager would be able to get away with it. (Could be a challenge there ..... avoid relegation from EPL with fewest goals scored).

Interesting to see how big ears gets on when he gets the inevitable move to a more attacking club and also how Leicester get on without him.

Edit to add : Who the hell is George Green on the England subs bench ?

Gary Lineker Injury adds to Leicester City Relegation Trouble
http://www.leicester.gov.uk/EasySiteWeb/getresource.axd?AssetID=125127&type=custom&servicetype=Inline&customSizeId=95

There was trouble for Leicester City as Striker Gary Lineker was ruled out for 4 weeks with a Calf Strain.
After 2 defeats in a row, Linker was injured early on in a 0-0 draw with Brighton.
He then missed 2 games and was rushed back against West Brom. But only lasted 5 minutes of the game before being subbed off after taking a knock. He was fully fit for the game a week later.
During the games he sat out, Lineker was seen in the stand sitting with the fans.
He is loved by the locals and is the main reason Leicester City are in the top flight scoring over 50 goals in the last 4 seasons.

1 Win in 10 Games Leaves Leicester City in 17th Place and Manager Lee Bradbury Under Pressure
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/62926000/jpg/_62926984_ebanks.jpg

Just 1 Win and 5 Defeats in the last 10 games have seen Leicester City slide towards the bottom 3.
They still have a 6 point cushion and a game in hand, but if the form doesn't improve City could be pulled into the mire.
They haven't been helped by the injury and loss of form to main striker Gary Lineker.
He has scored just 1 goal in his last 8 appearances without getting any assists.
Leicester City have in-fact scored just 3 goals in the last 10 games.
They are again solid at the back and have conceded the lowest in the bottom 14 teams.
Fans are again calling on the board to take action and remove Lee Bradbury, the Manager, from his position.
There were rumours of a shoes off protest in the car park after the 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff on Boxing Day.

Low Scoring Leicester City in Relegation Battle
http://news.images.itv.com/image/file/203525/image_update_34cc364e95c3903c_1368372882_9j-4aaqsk.jpeg
With 13 goals in 28 games, it's amazing Leicester aren't bottom of the table.
But in fact they have won 5 games and lie in 16th place.
But they are level on points with Sheff Utd in 17th place and are just 2 points above QPR in 18th place, and they have a game in hand.
So it is extremely tight at the bottom.
Leicester City have scored just 3 goals in the last 9 games having won just 1 game and drawn one other. Losing the other 7.
Lee Bradbury is somehow still in his management position but how long can the board stick with the Manager who has not progressed in the Premier League over the past 3 and a half seasons.
Leicester are currently on a 5 game losing streak and have won just 2 matches in the last 23 league games. Surely it is time for a change.
Striker Gary Lineker has managed to score 2 of the 3 Leicester Goals in the last 9 games. Taking his league tally to 8.
Leicester City have also gone out of the FA Cup, losing Away to Man City in the 5th Round.

Leicester City Need A Win To Guarantee Premier League Survival on the Final Day.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lucJyQX74YI/UDiLZmUanxI/AAAAAAAAQD4/EvTKpym9hns/s200/logo-barclays-premier-league-1.jpg

Leicester City are just 1 point above the Relegation Zone with 1 game to play.
They are away at Fulham on the final day and only a win will guarantee Premier League Safety.
If they fail to win at Craven Cottage, they are relying on West Brom to slip up at Home to Everton.
If Leicester lose and West Brom draw the final relegation spot could depend on how many Leicester lose by as at present they have a better goal difference.
It is lucky their form has picked up in the last 9 games. They have won 2 games, including a vital one against West Brom.
They have also drawn 3 games.
They have equaled the number of goals they scored last season and so they can't break their own record. But 19 goals from 37 games is not good enough.
England hopeful Gary Lineker has failed to score in any of his last 9 games. He'll be hoping he can make the difference on Sunday.

Leicester City Safe Despite Draw as West Brom Relegated After Losing at Home
http://legacymedia.localworld.co.uk/275788/Article/images/15516158/3624052.png

A late goal for Leicester City earned a draw at Fulham and any relegation nerves were put to bed as news of West Brom's demise rung around the ground.
West Brom lost 2-0 at home to Everton and so it didn't matter what happened at Craven Cottage.
But Leicester were glad to end with a draw and not a defeat.
It meant they scored 1 goal more than last season, scoring 20 goals, but conceding 41.
Surely their luck will run out soon under Lee Bradbury's guidance, but for now he holds onto his job with just 4 defeats in the final 10 games.
Gary Lineker may look to leave after failing to score in his final 10 games of the season as Leicester City employed very defensive tactics.
Aston Villa and Stoke are said to be interested in signing the Striker.

Greece, Albania and Montenegro all together. Lots of International derbies in that lot.

Have Leicester installed reclining seats in their stands for supporters who want to doze off during games. Prime time for the 23 year old to move now. Stoke have scored more than Villa, but I don't remember Lineker heading that many, so perhaps Villa would be the more suitable club for him.

An opening day draw away at Arsenal set the wheels in motion for belief to wash through this Leicester City side.
They followed it up with a 1-0 home win over Everton and then drew the next 2 away games.
The last match was a 3-1 win over local rivals Nottingham Forest to the delight of the home fans.
Gary Lineker has started excellently with 5 goals in 5 games. The England hopeful will be glad of the good start in the build up to a World Cup Year.

Normal service resumed for relegation battlers Leicester City after good start is wiped out.
It all looked promising after 5 games unbeaten. But Leicester City have picked up just 1 point in the last 5 games.
They have also scored just 1 goal in that time too, scored by Gary Lineker in a 1-1 home draw with West Ham.
Of the 4 defeats, 2 will not worry the fans against Chelsea and Man Utd.
But the defeats by Middlesbrough and Fulham will convince fans that Lee Bradbury should go.
His negative defensive tactics may have kept Leicester City up for 4 seasons.
But each time they have stayed up by the skin of their teeth and many fans believe it is time for a change.
This recent run of results will have put pressure firmly on Bradbury's shoulders.

Leicester City 3 Points Above Drop Zone At Half Way Point

Just 1 Win in 9 Games heaps pressure on Leicester City Manager Lee Bradbury
City have only had 3 defeats in that 9 game spell and so that is 9 points from those games.
Which Lee Bradbury says a point a game will keep his side up.
Leicester City scored 7 goals in those 9 games as Bradbury tried to attack more.
Top Striker Gary Lineker only scored 2 of those and rumours have it that he will be off at the end of the season.

6 defeats in 9 leave Leicester City in relegation zone.
5 points from the last 9 games have left Leicester City to battle against Relegation.
They are currently 2 points from safety with 10 games to go.
They have 3 tough games coming up too, away at Chelsea and Aston Villa and at home to Tottenham.
That run is followed by a 6 pointer against bottom of the table Cardiff City.
Who have somehow scored less than low scoring Leicester City.
Striker Gary Lineker has so far stood by Lee Bradbury but it seems his patience is wearing thin.
Sources close to the player are suggesting he has asked his advisers to find him a new club for next season.

A Win against Liverpool gives Leicester hope.
An amazing 1-0 win away at Liverpool has closed the gap to QPR to just 1 point.
Leicester City had been on a 7 match run without a win and so were rank outsiders to pull off any result at Anfield.
But 3 points really gives them a chance of avoiding the drop.
It will come as a relief to Manager Lee Bradbury.
He was facing the wrath of the fans after a 0-0 draw at home to bottom of the table Cardiff.
That came after 2 defeats and a draw in the previous 3 matches.
In what could be a massive game. Leicester City play QPR on the final game of the season.

Leicester City Relegated After 1 Win in Last 5 Games

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01002/leicester101pa_1002202c.jpg

4 Defeats in a row for Leicester City secures fate.
A 1-0 win against Blackburn left Leicester City out of the Drop Zone with 4 games to go.
But 4 defeats in a row, left them relegated even before the last match of the season.
It was a shame it didn't get to that match, as it would have been a winner takes all game with Q.P.R.
But Leicester City had a difficult run in with 3 away games and Home to Man City in the final 4 games.
Leicester City were the lowest scorers in the division but scored 24 goals which is the most by them in the Division under Lee Bradbury.
Surely he wont keep his job for next season.
Someone who won't be there next season, according to reports, is Striker Gary Lineker.
He scored 13 league goals for the relegated side and many pundits believe he would score many more in a more attacking side.
Rumours are also circulating that England Manager Roy Hodgson will call Gary Lineker up for the upcoming Euro 2008 tournament.

Everton have signed England Striker Gary Lineker from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.
The 24 year old has been at Leicester since he signed his first professional contract aged 17.
Since making his debut he has played in 249 competitive games for Leicester, scoring 77 goals.
After barely featuring in his 1st season without a goal.
He scored 17 goals in the 2nd season as Leicester City were Promoted to the Premier League.
Since then he has scored 10 or more goals in every season for Leicester City.
Keeping them in the top flight for 5 seasons until this season's relegation.
He will be sorely missed in Leicester where he had become a club hero, but they didn't want to stand in his way.

England into Final of EURO 2008

England finally win a Penalty Shootout after 1-1 draw with Italy
England are through to the Final of Euro 2008 where they will face Spain after winning a tight encounter with Italy on Penalties.
Gary Lineker enjoyed a rare start for England after Daniel Sturridge was declared unfit for a start.
However Jake Sinclair picked up a knock just before half-time and so Sturridge came on anyway.
Jack Wilshire then opened the scoring in the 51st minute.
England looked set for the final in normal time, but England hearts sank when Destro equalised to take the tie to extra time.
Extra time was very cagey it went to penalties.
Gary Lineker stepped up 1st. He scored.
Balotelli missed for Italy. Sturridge missed for England. Schelotto missed for Italy.
Cahill scored. Destro Scored. Young Scored. Veratti had to score to keep Italy in the tournament. He missed.
England were through. The Majority of the 52,000 in Glasgow's Hampden Park and masses across the country ecstatic.

In some ways I am glad Leicester are relegated as wasn't looking like a move otherwise

But now at Everton and in UEFA - great stuff! Who are the other strikers he has to get ahead of?

Has Bradbury been sacked yet?!

Just caught up with this after I think I missed some posts inadvertantly being in 'threaded' rahter than 'linear' mode.

England seem to be pretty good in the March13 update, but still great to win the Euros, even better to do it in Scotland!

Lineker's star will rise fast now. 20 Prem goals and another 10 in Europe/Cups will give him a 30-goal season, mark my words!!

KUTGW!

Everton should be a good move for him and the chance of European football should increase his rep further. Shame he couldn't play a bigger part in England's success at the Euros.

New Everton Striker Gary Lineker won the Premier League Player of the Month Award for August.
He has started the season in fine form since his move from Leicester City during the summer.
He will now go on England duty full of confidence after being called up for the start of the World Cup 2010 Qualifying campaign.

Two 3-0 wins against Finland and Moldova put England on front foot in Qualifying Group.
New Everton Striker Gary Lineker continued his good league form at International Level as he hit 3 goals over the 2 games.
First there was 2 goals for Lineker at Wembley to seal a 3-0 win over Finland and he followed it up with another goal in Moldova as Raheem Sterling shone in the 3-0 win.

Lineker enjoying new style at Everton
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/multimedia/archive/00142/85652784_everton_142121b.jpg

New Everton Striker Gary Lineker has said he is liking the new attacking style employed at Everton.
He has joined the Toffies after 7 season's at Leicester City where he scored over 70 goals.
But the club only scored 106 premier League goals in 5 seasons in the top flight.
They were relegated last season and so Lineker had to move to keep up his England aspirations.
That has started well for him too, as he has started the last 2 England games scoring 3 goals.
Lineker was talking to the press after his side's 3-1 win in Valencia as Lineker played his first ever European Game.
It was a tough draw for Everton facing the Spanish side, but a 3-1 away win looks to have secured the blues passage to the 2nd round.

http://d25yla7xp697oa.cloudfront.net/assets/_files/cached/nov_08/450x302/efc__1227792412_lineker_gary.jpg

Everton are down in 11th after 9 games and more was expected from the side who finished 5th last time out.
Just 2 wins in 9 games has seen Everton slip into the bottom half.
There have been some difficult games in there but more was expected from Everton this season.
There have been disappointing draws against Sheff Utd, West Ham, Watford and Stoke.
While defeats have come at Newcastle and Chelsea and at Home to Man Utd.
Maybe the team found it hard to concentrate on the league as they had 2 big games with Valencia.
Everton only picked up 2 points in the 4 games either side of the 2 legs of the UEFA Cup 1st Round.
New signing Gary Lineker is playing well though. He has scored 8 goals in those 9 games.

Everton up to 6th Place After 3 Wins in a Row.
http://img.thesun.co.uk/aidemitlum/archive/00785/Everton_fans_celebr_785325a.jpg

6 Wins from 10 games help Everton climb the table after dodgy start.
The run started well with a 3-0 home win against Liverpool.
But with 2 defeats, away at Sheffield Wednesday and Man City looked to derail the Toffies.
But 3 wins on the spin, scoring 10 goals in those 3 games against Blackburn, Aston Villa and Sheffield United have put Everton into 6th place.
They are just 5 points off the top 4 and have a 6 point gap to 10th, although some side behind have a game in hand.
Everton have gone out of 2 cups in this time though. Losing to Stoke in the League Cup 3rd Round.
And after beating Valencia in the UEFA Cup 1st round, then Beat Panathinaikos in the 2nd Round 6-2 on aggregate.
They have lost to Olympiacos 5-2 on aggregate after a beating over in Turkey.
The League run has been helped by the form of Striker Gary Lineker who has scored 8 more league goals in his last 10 games.
Making it 16 for the season at the half way stage.

Everton Fail to Kick On After Benzema Signing
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8c/Everton_F.C._%282013%29.svg/200px-Everton_F.C._%282013%29.svg.png

4 Wins in 9 games have seen Everton fall to 7th.
With just 1 win in the last 4 games it has left Everton 14 points behind the top 4.
New signing Benzema has scored just 3 goals in his first 10 games.
It hasn't knocked other Striker Gary Lineker off his stride though. He has scored 6 goals in his last 9 league games.
Dropped points against Southampton, West Ham and Watford will disappoint the management as Everton chase a top 5 finish.
This will match what they achieved last year and after heavy spending during the season anything else will seem a step backwards.
The wait for a Trophy goes on too as they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round in a tough tie against Arsenal.

Everton Hold On To Fifth Place After Tight League Finish

http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2013/0621/garylinekereverton1986_275x155.jpg

5 wins and 3 draws in the last 10 games help Everton finish in 6th place.
They have finished 8 points behind 5th place Man City where Everton finished last season.
But it could have been worse with 9th Place just 4 points behind.
Everton scored 19 goals and conceded 11 in the last 10 games.
Gary Lineker scored 7 goals in those 10 games to finish the season with 29 League Goals in 38 games.
He has been attracting interest from some of Europe's top clubs, but Everton have said there is no chance of him leaving.
It will be interesting to see if Everton scrape a place in the UEFA Cup from their 6th place finish..

After 2 disappointing results, England won 2-0 against Moldova to kick-start the chase for top spot.
Gary Lineker was recalled and showed what England had been missing.
He took his chance very well and claimed Man of the Match for his all round contribution.
It leaves England in 2nd place behind Poland, who they face in Warsaw in September.
England need a win there and to win at home against Slovenia in October to guarantee qualification.
England find themselves in trouble after a poor 1-1 draw in Slovenia back in March.

Lineker Full of Praise for Superb Teammates

Gary Lineker said his new teammates at Barcelona have helped him settle in.
Since his big money move to the Camp Nou many people have wondering if Lineker will be able to settle in to the area and style of play.
Questions are also being asked as to if he will be able to deal with the pressure of replacing Lionel Messi who left the club this summer.
Lineker said the players are dedicated and professional but also have a laugh in training to help ease him into the area.
"I am enjoying the formation and style we play. Who wouldn't want those players behind you feeding you with precise passes."
Said an excited Lineker.
He has started his career with 2 medals and 2 goals in 3 games.

Barcelona Cut Gap to 4 Points Despite Loss at Home to Madrid

http://www.rent4days.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/real-barca.jpg

Madrid still lead the way, but Barcelona fight back.
Barcelona have won 9 of the last 10 games.
The only defeat coming to Real Madrid at home.
That will hurt. Not only the defeat but Madrid were the better team, with Barca goalkeeper the man of the match.
But the fact that in Madrid's other last 10 games, they have lost 2 and drawn 2 has given Barcelona hope.
Barcelona have played 2 games less than Madrid but have scored more goals.
This is somewhat down to front man Gary Lineker who has been in top form since his move to La Liga.
He has scored 31 league goals in those 19 games and has 45 in all competitions.
Barcelona have also conceded the least in the league.
But a black mark against Barcelona was the 2-0 defeat to Flamengo of Brazil in the Intercontinental Cup.
It was a reserve side of sorts played by Barca but the lack of a cutting edge was clearly visable.
The decision to leave Gary Lineker out to rest the player was met with anger by some fans.

Helping them was Gary Lineker, the spearhead of the team.
Lineker has now scored 46 League goals in 26 games.

A 1-1 draw in the Camp Nou was enough for Real Madrid to Overcome Barcelona to get to the Champions League Final.
It was the in the first leg where the hard work was done for Real to secure their place with a 2-0 win.
After an early goal for Real Madrid in the 2nd leg, it was game over and Barca battled back for a draw with a Gary Lineker goal.
Real will face Ajax in the final after Ajax beat Lazio 4-2 on aggregate.
Barcelona had been favourites for the Cup after seeing off AC Milan 6-0 on aggregate in the Quarter Finals.

In better news for Barcelona. They made it through to the Spanish Cup Final with a 6-2 aggregate win over Girona.

Barcelona win La Liga with 104 Points

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/46043000/jpg/_46043208_lineker282.jpg

34 wins from 38 games was too much for Real Madrid to keep up with
Real themselves picked up a massive 92 points but they still finished 12 points behind Barcelona.
Barcelona also scored the most goals and conceded the least with just 15.
They won 9 of the last 10 and 20 of the last 22 games.
With just a defeat at Real Madrid and Draw away at Valencia the only blotches since the 18th October.
Barcelona were fired to the title by star striker Gary Lineker. He only joined before the season kicked off from Everton in the English Premier League and pundits questioned whether he would be able to make the step up. But he has answered his critics with some amazing displays.
His 53 league goals in 32 games is an astonishing record.
And overall this season he scored a whopping 75 goals in 53 games.
Lineker has always acknowledged that his great strike rate is down to the fantastic players around him.

After their Supercup victory earlier in the season, Barcelona go into next week's cup final looking to complete the domestic treble.
But eyes will still be jealously on the Champions League final, where Real Madrid take on Ajax.
Barcelona were knocked out by rivals Madrid 3-1 on aggregate in the Semi Finals.

Barcelona have completed the Domestic Treble with a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon in the Spanish Cup Final.
A single 1st half goal was enough to take the cup win..
Barcelona started with a slightly injured Gary Lineker but he was removed in the 32nd minute after picking up a knock.

Spurs hold on, taking the title on the final day.
Man Utd were just a point behind in 2nd place.
Many people questioned where Everton would finish this season after losing Gary Lineker.
But they have re-invested the money wisely and claimed a 3rd place finish.

In the Championship.
Gary Lineker's previous side, Leicester City, finished in 14th place.
But the fans will be delighted with that, as this season, they scored 72 goals.
After the new manager implemented a much more attacking approach than previous one, Lee Bradbury.

England into 2nd Round After 2 Wins to Top Group

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Clubs/Club_Home/2009/7/31/1249058875664/Gary-Lineker-playing-for--001.jpg

A 3-1 win over Iran this evening was enough to see England top the group.
It came after a 3-2 win over Mexico when both front players, Gary Lineker and Jake Sinclair, were on the scoresheet.
That pleased the manager and the fans as the team took an early 3-0 lead. But 2 late goals from Mexico threatened to halt England.
But Mexico couldn't find an equaliser.
Tonight in Cape Town, England also made hard work of beating Iran. With Iran scoring the first goal.
But goals from George Green, Man of the Match Gary Lineker and sub Nathan Redmond saw England finish with 7 points.
And finish top of the group.
They will face Chile in the 2nd round.

England scored their first 3 penalties, with Chile Scoring their first two.
But then the 3rd was missed.
Miller then missed the 4th for England.
But when Chile also missed the 4th penalty, Nathan Redmond could seal victory.

9 wins in a row for Barcelona in the League as they look to retain the title.
They are 6 points clear of 2nd place and 10 above rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona have scored 24 goals and only conceded 4 goals in the 9 games.
The 100% record has been achieved with the goals and performances of England Striker Gary Lineker.
Fresh from winning the World Cup with England in the Summer, Lineker has started this season very well.
Some wondered if he could ever match his exploits from last season.
But with 10 goals in those 9 games he shows no signs of slowing down.
Barcelona are also through to the 2nd group phase in the Champions League.

BARCELONA CRISIS?

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/67200000/jpg/_67200630_67200026.jpg

Barcelona win just 5 of 9 games to allow Real Madrid to catch up.
There are just 2 points between the sides with both el classico's coming up in quick succession due to one being rescheduled for a cup game.
Barcelona had a very poor run of just 1 win in 4 games.
But have since followed it up with 3 wins in a row. The last being a 2-1 win over Valencia hopefully signalling the end of the poor run.
Gary Lineker is still performing well and has 17 goals in 18 league games.
But this season Barcelona are playing a new tactic with 2 upfront and so his goals tally doesn't compare to last season, when he had 30 league goals by this stage.
The bad league form was preceded by a confidence denting 2-1 defeat in Russia as Barcelona lost 2-1 to Zenit in the 2nd Group Phase of the Champions League.
A 2-0 win over Everton gives Barcelona 3 points after 2 games as they hope to progress from the group.
Last season they were knocked out in the Semi Final by Rivals Real Madrid.

2 Points Between Real and Barca as they Enter the Final 10 Games.

http://simplyfutbol.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/liga-bbva.jpg

Just 2 points and 1 goal separate the two Spanish giants as they enter squeaky bum time.
Gary Lineker has played in every league game thus far for Barcelona and scored just under half of their total league goals.
Taking just 1 point from Real Madrid could be the deciding factor this season for Barcelona's title ambitions.
But as well as that, draws with Betis and Sabadell and a defeat at home to Huesca have put serious dents in Barcelona's points total.

But on the European Front Barcelona are doing well winning their last 5 games.
They have finished top of their group in the 2nd phase and will enter the Quarter Finals against Milan.
Barcelona are also through to the Semi Final of the Domestic Cup, the Copa Del Rey and have avoided Real Madrid in the draw, which could set up an el classico final.

Real Madrid Take Title

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/60212000/jpg/_60212825_mmrealmadrid.jpg

Real Madrid won the title by 4 points as Barcelona finish 2nd.
A stuttering Barcelona won 6 of the last 10 games to give Real Madrid the title.
Real will be glad to wrestle the title back from Barcelona.
Barcelona will not be happy about points dropped in 3 of the last 4 away games.
Maximum points there would have seen them retain the title, but it wasnt to be.
Gary Lineker couldn't reproduce his amazing first season form, where he scored 75 goals in all competitions.
This season was very good but nowhere near those stats.
He scored 46 goals in 50 games through all competitions.
His 32 league goals fell way short of the 53 he scored last season despite playing 4 more league games.
Lineker will hope to get back to his best next season.

Great form from Gaz. That is some number of goals in a season when not playing a wib/wob tactic.

I'm sure that Barca will get the better of Real next year.

LINEKER THE DIFFERENCE AS BARCELONA WIN EL CLASSICO SUPER CUP IN AMAZING FINISH

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/08/18/article-0-0D789FD800000578-155_468x333.jpg

A last second Gary Lineker goal gives Barcelona 3-2 aggregate Win
After just 22 minutes Gary Lineker had scored 2 goals in the first leg of the Super Cup and given Barcelona an early hand on the trophy.
But a goal from Real Madrid in the 66th minute left it tight going into the 2nd leg.
It was then a tight 2nd leg. And looked to be heading for a Real Madrid win, as they were 1-0 up and led on away goals.
But Real were reduced to 10 men early in the 2nd half.
And despite holding out until the last minute, Gary Lineker struck to level the game and win the tie and cup for Barcelona.

Barcelona Top in Spain but just 1 Point Clear of Rivals Real Madrid

The two favourites are up and running with 9 wins each from 11 games.
But Real have lost 2 games to Barcelona's 1 and so trail by a single point.
Barcelona have only conceded 5 goals in those 11 games, but unusually for them have not been free-scoring.
They have only found the net 16 times in 11 games.

It has been different in Europe though, where they have scored 14 goals in 6 group games, as they topped their group with 13 points.
Club Brugge finished in 2nd place to put Juventus into the UEFA Cup.

Striker Gary Lineker has 22 goals in 20 games for Barcelona in all competitions, but with only 9 of them coming in the league, more is expected of him.

England Qualify for EURO 2012

http://www.assetstorage.co.uk/AssetStorageService.svc/GetImageFriendly/721232860/700/700/0/0/1/80/ResizeBestFit/0/PressAssociation/88B8736585CE49E5565ED1F802F6391D/soccer-european-championship-qualifier-england-v-turkey-wembley.jpg

England top the group after 7 points from the last 3 games.

A 4-1 victory away in Ireland gave England one foot in the Championships.
As they knew they just needed to avoid defeat in the final 2 games to qualify.
It was a difficult game for England when 5 minutes before half time, Ireland equalised.
But a mistake at the back allowed Lineker into the box where he was fouled.
A red card was produced before Lineker converted the penalty.
2 more goals were scored early in the 2nd half to secure the points.

So England knew a win at home against Sweden would seal a place at Euro 2012.
But a Man-of-the-match performance from Gary Lineker was not enough to get all 3 points.
England had to settle for a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Sweden knew they needed the win which made for a great game.

In the Final game England needed a point to Qualify away at Hungary.
A single goal from Gary Lineker was enough to secure all 3 points and top spot.

Barcelona Crowned European Champions

http://e1.365dm.com/13/06/660x350/gary-lineker-lopez-rekarte-barcelona_2964308.jpg

A Gary Lineker penalty earns victory for Barcelona in a tight game with Milan in Austria.
It was a tight and edgy game but settled by the Champions League top Goalscorer Gary Lineker.
His penalty in the 25th minute after he had been fouled in the box was enough to separate the sides.
It was his 21st European goal of the season and his 69th overall.

It was a game of only a few chances as Milan defended deep and doggedly.
But Barcelona wont care as they take the Trophy back to Spain.

It rounds off a good season for Lineker, who had been unsure of his future early in the season when Barcelona were struggling for goals.
But now Lineker is the League and Champions League winner, as well as the Super Cup and has EURO 2012 to look forward to.
Maybe the rumours of him being homesick can now be put behind him.

21 goals in a European campaign is some going. Not cutting it at the international level, just 33% strike rate this year and not much over 50% in his career.

What are the odds on him missing a penalty against Germany ?

Spurs to pay initial £21 million to Barcelona for the England star

Spurs shocked many in the world of football last night with the annoucement that they have signed FC Barcelona Striker Gary Linker.
He has been a main stay in the Barcelona side as they won the League and Champions League last season.
He also scored 69 goals in all competitions and will be difficult for Barcelona to replace.
But with him approaching his 29th Birthday he isnt getting any younger.
There were rumours 12 months ago that Lineker was feeling homesick and was looking for a way back to England.

He'll not meet up with his new team until after Euro 2012 which starts later this week.
England have a tough group but will be hoping to go far in this competition after Winning the World Cup 2 years ago.

Just 4 wins in the opening 10 games is not good enough for Spurs.
Their new striker Gary Lineker is struggling to find his feet as the Manager has tried a couple of different formations.
Tottenham find themselves in 9th place. While Lineker has found the net just 3 times in those 10 games.
But after defeat at home to Birmingham, Spurs have gone to Everton and won.
So the fans hope that is the turning point.

The Champions League hasn't started to well for Spurs and Qualification hangs in the Balance.
2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw leave Spurs needing a win in the final game.

Spurs Kick on as Lineker finds his goalscoring boots
http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/208/files/2012/09/lineker2.jpg

After just 4 wins in the opening 10 games Spurs have won 5 of the next 8 to move top of the table.
Although the two sides below them have games in hand.
The main reason for this upturn in form is that Record Signing Gary Lineker has found his feet now as the manager has settled on a formation.
He had scored 3 goals in the opening 10 league games.
He now has 14 league goals.
Spurs are now on a run of 9 games unbeaten in all cometitions.
And also 9 unbeaten in the League.

Spurs have also progressed in the 3rd Round of the UEFA Cup.
Beating Wacker Innsbruck 5-4 over 2 legs despite playing a mostly reserve side.

But they were knocked out of the League Cup playing the reserves against Blackpool in the 3rd Round.
