So when the latest update came out I decided I would go with my team Manchester City and see how much I could win with the aim to complete the quadruple. After four very enjoyable seasons I'm happy to announce that I've achieved my goal and I've won it all including the World Club Championship and various other international competitions. I know people have won it all before and I was using a team that eventually consisted of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale but I just wanted to share this personal achievement.

Tactic
http://i.imgur.com/MKPmeos.png

I adopted the above tactic off the back of wanting to complete Challenge 2 and needing a flat front five to do so.

Manager Stats

So four seasons, four domestic titles, two FA cups, three league cups, one World Club Championship and three Champions League titles (oh and various international cups). Not bad.

...and finally.. Cristiano Ronaldo

315 goals in three seasons. He's an absolute machine considering he was part of a five-man strike force.

Wow! That is outrageous from CR7!

No wonder you dominated the Challenge with that tactic, have you shared it? I'd like to compare to mine (which is rubbish) and see where I'm going wrong.

Only Faz has a copy of it as I want it testing for the OTL. The thing I'm most proud of is that it doesn't contain an ounce of Iodine in it.

OK after my recent absence from this thread

Again as per my previous game

I am trying to take a club from the bottom league to the top and win the league & the cups, but I have set myself 2 restrictions,

1. I can only bring players in on free transfers, bosmans, exchange (as long as I do not pay any money out) or on loan, also I can only bring staff in on free transfers or give players a non-playing position
2. I can only move on once I have won the top league title & all major cups in said country & tried to win the Champions League, or if I get sacked
3. If I am sacked I must start from the lowest division of the country I was managing in before (So basically I have to stay in the same country & start again from the lowest league)

I started with Tralee Dynamos in the Irish (Republic of Ireland) 1st Division (Using October 2014 DB)

I started this game a few weeks ago so i have already done my Tralee challenges, just gotta see how far I get in the CL now

This is the Feyenoord squad.
Compared to the first year (2014-2015) we only got two new strikers.
I can recommend any of these players, except Wilkshire.
They will all do well in the English Premier League although Van Beek and Kongolo are underrated in CM0102.
And Boetius and Vilhena are overrated most likely.

As mentioned on the best/worst performances thread, I've taken on a game with Southampton.

I took one of my 2014 testing games and took over Sunderland in Div 2. Reduced the wage bill by something like 16m to a sustainable but still-unrealistic sum for Div 2. Slow start but by December we had accumulated something like 42 points. I took over at Southampton, who had 1 point from 15 games.

Managed to drag them up to 18th but a cup run was both interesting and an unwelcome distraction. We were constantly two points off safety while games in hand piled up. A mini slump prompted a change in personnel but When we finally caught up with our games, we managed to get to 16th. A 4-0 win over a Derby three games before the end of the season secured safety and I turned my attention to the cup final with Aston Villa, which we won two weeks later.

In parallel, I took on the Canadian national team. I think I did so because, like a lot of minor international teams, they refused to pick their best players. In a crazy year, we won 4 WCQs and drew one, got third in the Confederations Cup and won the Copa America in Brazil, beating the hosts in the final. My reputation is now Superb and with two more wins, we will make the next World Cup. However, my proudest achievement is the emergence of Alex Dailly.

Junior Hoilett's omission was my original reason for taking over Canada but Alex quickly became my project. Playing for L'Assomption in the Canadian Soccer League, he'd played a few national team games a few years previous but was then cast into the wilderness, despite being their most talented forward. He was out of contract for most of the period when he won 15 caps and scored 19 goals, including the winner in the Copa America final. I had originally tried to sign him for Sunderland on a bosman, which fell through after I had left due to work permit issues. By August, he was being tailed by three European clubs but a late bid from Leeds United brought him to England. In the course of five months, he'd played enough to get a work permit and signed the three year, 60k per week deal from being on £375 per week in Canada.

Maybe I get too attached to players but I did that. He had the talent but the AI wasted it. This has been easily the most rewarding international management experience I've had in any game.

I took over at St. Pauli and had an ultimately succesful first season with the "Kiezhelden". We managed to get promoted first season, though only barely. So now the German Bundesliga awaits and I have been desperately trying to keep the team together (My striker Ante Budimir seems to have little confidence in our Bundesliga adventures, as well as strong DM Tom Trybull, both wanting to move to a bigger club.) Also, one of the best players of my team, left back Christopher Buchtmann was paoched by VfB Stuttgart.

In an effort to make something of the season I decided to spend the whole transfer budget on the following players:

Niko Schulz, DL, £1,5M from Hertha BSC
http://i59.tinypic.com/rbk2ys.png

Yannick Schulze, DM, £1,9M from Hannover 96
http://i60.tinypic.com/2yyw381.png

Alexander Ring, DM, £1,8M from Kaiserslautern (34 caps 1 goal for Finland)

Schulz and Colina being more like long term replacements on midfield and Finne might make an immediate impact upfront. Ante Budimir is out of the question right but I also have Lennart Thy, who was my backup striker last season. Finne and Thy will have to battle hard for the striker spot. Ben-Hatira will give me options on both wings and, if needed as a third choice striker.

hoping for a mid-table place but I'm having a feeling it's going to be a tough season. Here goes!

had a great save going with Anderlecht, running an U-23 side into three consecutive titles, cups and CL runs. Got offered the Arsenal job, went, bought two of my Anderlecht prodigies and going into my second game, system said that not all squad members were assigned squad numbers and there was fuck all I could do about that. Just couldnt continue. Fuck.

I started a save as Limerick in Ireland. The idea was to make them great, winning the Champions League and all, but for four seasons straight I could never make it past the third round qualifiers. I won the UEFA cup a few times, though... Anyway, when my fourth attempt ended in the third round qualifiers with a super-keepered, 2-3 defeat to PSV, I sort of gave up. Leicester offered me a job, and I took it.

Managing in England is so easy, though. Leicester were bottom in the Championship when I took over, and I ended up winning both the league and the league cup. Currently 4th in the Premiership, probably going to win that too. And the UEFA.

The irony; Limerick is now seeded into the Champions League. D'oh!

What will really piss you off is if you go back and make them or any team good enough to potentially win the champions league, everyone goes on holiday before the final so you have the whole squad on about 65-75% fitness. The only way around it is a save game editor. Bit a design flaw but the fact that no Irish team will ever reach the CL final in real life means it's accurate in one way, lol

I've got to the Uefa Cup final with Athlone Town before, I can't say I remember them being unfit though. Does it vary, or does playing friendlies help?

UEFA they are around 85% plus so can be worked around.

No friendlies would make them worse as they wouldn't recover as quick.

Save Game Editor is only way to get them up 100%

1st Season Mighty Leeds.

So I comfortably secured the league title therefore gaining promotion to the Premiership, I signed no major players and I only sold players who were no use to me and decided it would be unfair to let some decent players rot in the reserves.

I use the tactic 442tapani_as2*

I got to the Quarter Finals of the League Cup losing to Manchester United (Scum) 3-1

I got to the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup losing to Newcastle 2-1 in Replay. (3-3 at Elland Road)

Now I don't know if its because the current Leeds set-up on the game is Strong for the championship, Antenucci , Adryan , Doukara , Mowatt , Byram , Sharp , Silvestri did seem to run riot against teams , Even though I did not secure top Goalscorer in the league. (Mowatt finished 29th with 11 Goals) Every game the players gained at least a 8 rating or higher (This applied to the whole starting 11 most of the time)

The only player I did lose was Adryan he left for Liverpool with about 10 games left after agreeing terms from Flamengo.

just started a new LFC career, 2007-2008 update, following a loss/crash of a similar career.

haven't made many changes to the squad as i want to see how they play. did buy wayne bridge while shipping fabio aurelio out. am using a 4231 formation with no wib/wob.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B9nJgU2CEAAiJng.png

two months in, i'm doing well. one loss away to real madrid (3-2) & a bunch of convincing wins. torres missed the first five games but has since scored 5 goals in 4 games. gerrard has two hat-tricks, one being 4 goals at home against wigan. reina has the lowest average rating of the regular players at 7.00.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B9nK1hPCMAAMZPA.png

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B9nK7zYCEAAvZQg.png

the biggest concern moving forward is keeping torres & crouch healthy. they've both missed games already this season. equally, i've decided that the vast majority of my acquisitions will be from the lower divisions.

0141607
14-02-15, 06:02 PM
Still in my first season with Liverpool on the October 2014 update and sitting 7 points clear of Arsenal with 10 games to play. I've Man City in the final of the League Cup coming up shortly. I drew Atletico Madrid in the QF of the Champions League and I've Southampton in the SF of the FA Cup.

i know that. what about the way the formation makes it effective?

ajra21

it's march and i've managed to keep both torres & crouch relatively healthy but both have missed time. i often have to pulled torres at half time because he's carrying a potential injury. injuries have plagued me. at least one third of the squad have missed significant time.

torres:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B90oiKdIYAAft8c.png

crouch:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B90omwzIQAAcMUv.png

but it's been gerrard who has completely taken over. think he has 3 hat-tricks including one 4 goal game. 14 man of the match awards so far.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B90oo3wIYAAqpVo.png

the defence has been great which has kept me in both cups & dominating in europe. i've never had a first season go so well in europe. i lost the first game in the CL away at real madrid (3-2) but since then, i've won every european game including beating real 4-0 at home (it could have been 8) and two solid wins against inter. am in the league cup final against chelsea - it'll be tough. for me, they are the only team I've faced that i don't think we're better than head-to-head, even though i lost to man utd and they're ahead of us in the league.

in the league, things have been going very well.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B90qn_HCAAEfBAO.png

despite the very promising position, i don't believe we'll win the league. my run-in is not easy - as it looks like i'll be competing in all of the cup to the near end. that'll put too much strain on the squad as my reserves aren't strong enough yet to support my first team. right now, if i win one cup and take second place, i'll be content with the season.

i'm losing money. a lot of players have asked for new contracts. i can't afford them. hoping the board increases the stadium capacity at the end of the season. they've already stopped two transfers because they thought they were unrealistic and not good value. annoying, one of them was for a player (RB chris gunter) who has got so much better since i agreed the transfer, his value has doubled. prize money will be vital to me offseason activities. i didn't want to sell benayoun, lucas or alvaro but i may have no choice it might be a good idea to sell the £10m valued peter crouch and replace him with a cheaper player. they'll be replaced with young players earlier than i wanted.

if people are interested in the selling/buying part of my career, let me know. if not, i'll keep that to myself. i only ask because i think this is going to be a tough part of this career.

not long after the last update, we played chelsea in the league cup final. can't say we didn't deserve it. after their earlier goal, we controlled the game with more possession and 4 times the shots than they had.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B942cHWCEAAOv3K.png

soon after, we faced chelsea (again) in the FA cup semi-finals. this game was far more even, and although i think we played slightly better (more possession but less attempts at goal) i spent the whole game expecting to concede. we didn't and 120 minutes of goals football, we lost on penalties a week after beating them in the league cup final. gerrard missed the first pen and they put away all of theirs.

the end of the season was heating up. we were left as the only team remaining, from england, in europe. milan were narrowly fought off 2-1 on aggregate. in the semi-finals, we slapped valencia 4-0 in the first but almost blew it in the second, losing 3-0. two of their goals came early yet we managed to cling on. real madrid won their first leg 3-1 against barca. this was great because having played real twice this season, i knew we were better than them. even in our 3-2 loss, we were the superior team. unfortunately, barca won the second leg 4-0. (real won the spanish league with barca falling to third but the latter looks far better in europe).

ajra21
15-02-15, 10:59 PM
the kept rolling along. entering the last 7 days of the league season, we had to win all three games and have man utd draw (at least) one of their two. we both won on the penultimate weekend. that wednesday, we travelled to chelsea, who were clearly in third but had fallen from the title race two weeks earlier.

the game looked like a draw the whole way.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B96seINCIAAQWtv.png

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B96s1bmCEAA7khs.png

that meant it would come down to the final game of the season.

ajra21
15-02-15, 11:49 PM
well, we didn't win. a 0-0 draw at home to newcastle made the man utd result irrelevant. LFC would finish the season with 97 points but behind their arch rivals who managed 100. we thoroughly outscored them & had a comparable defence, yet man utd gave sir alex a league title to retire with. a few weeks later, louis van gaal left AZ to become the new manager (this game is so unrealistic).

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B963AWSCYAASk5f.png

despite coming second, LFC dominating many of the individual awards. gerrard's staggering 43 goals in all competitions managed to get him european midfielder of the year, while torres' 47 (in 35 games) brought him the european forward of the year, the european footballer of the year & the world footballer of the year; gerrard was the runner up in that last award. though neither were named in the best premiership XI (carragher was, and he took home the best defender in europe award).

three days after the title was lost, we travelled north to hamden park for the champions' league final. barca were, appropriately heavy favourites. i didn't give us much chance.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B964RXdCIAEkbts.png

staggering result that made a difference to the offseason. never saw that coming at all.

despite not winning the title, i was named manager of the year. didn't see that coming either.

LOL. this is what happens when you're snowed in watching breaking bad for two straight days.

next bit will cover my offseason. it wasn't easy. money was a real issue.

ajra21
18-02-15, 04:00 AM
the offseason was tricky. winning the champions' league meant we'd actually enter the offseason in the black. having hicks & gillette as the owners clearly wasn't helping the financial situation of the club. through the course of my first season, we'd given a bunch of players an extension and more wages. it meant that the wage bill each month was over £3m. we simply couldn't afford that - not if we were going to bring in some reinforcements.

i quickly shipped out easy benayoun (marseille, £5.25m), andrei voronin (hertha, £2m) and alvaro arbeloa (arsenal, £2.6m) along with seb leto (cienciano, £2.1m). a month later, inter offered me £4m for lucas leiva. given that i have xabi alonso, sissoko & mascherano, i figured lucas was expendable and the money could be put to better use.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-F-ebYCQAA_jib.png

martin skrtel was coming in for £3.5m but i cancelled the transfer when curtis davies became avaliable from west from for less than half of that; plus have the wages. davies would replace hyypia when he moved on next summer.

birmingham were relegated so i was able to get seb larsson and cameron jerome for next to nothing due to relegation release clauses (£80k and £625k compared to £3m ¶ £6m values). derby also went down so i ale to get 19yo wonder kid giles barnes for £900k instead of his £4m value. h won't play much given his age but it's a good investment. arbeloa needed replacing so a nabbed ex-LFC fullback stephen wright on a bosman from sunderland. marco motta (a 22yo SW/D RC, udinese) also has a relegation release clause which allowed me to get a £3m valued under-21 defender for £950k. milan, juve & roma all offered contract but he wanted to play for the european champions.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-GED41CUAATg0b.png

man city made 19yo daniel storage available so i spent £2m on him (again, for the future) and i'd later spend almost the same on cardiff's RB chris gunter. i figure, with this ownership, i'm gonna half to invest in the future.

al-in-all, brought in around £18m and spent around £12m.

the first team squad is undoubtly weaker for the coming season on paper. however, if jerome can score goals & wright can fill in a the backup FB, we've got a good shot at silverware. last season, i kept winning in the cups which put strain on my first team. i will be playing my reserves (who are clearly better & deeper this time around) in both domestic cups.

last year, i had a first team squad of 25 players. this year it'll be 21 but i have three or four reserves who i should be able to rely on to step up once or twice a month:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-GEz1sIQAAremT.png

i have one sole aim this season: win the title. i don't care about anything else.

ajra21
18-02-15, 11:54 PM
this season started with a stutter. torres missed the opening week due to a groin strain and gerrard limped off during both of the first two games, playing a combine 24 minutes. an opening day loss away at bolton (1-0) was however was the only dropped points for two months.

torres returned & combined with jerome & gerrard to be a superb front line. crouch missed time which gave jerome a chance to shine.

then "stuff" happened.

gerrard was suspended for three months for pushing a referee - though after one month he suddenly became available again. cameron jerome damaged his knee-cap, missing three months after having scored 9 goals in 8 games. pepe reina’s skull was fractured and would lead to missing the rest of the season (7 months). crouch, finnan, hyypia, alonso, babel, sissoko & jewel would all miss a month apiece before the end of january.

despite all this, we found ourselves 2nd when most teams had played 25 games.

as the season came to a close, we matched up with Chelsea in the CL semi-finals. Having drawn the first leg at anfield 0-0, we travelled to Stamford Bridge. I've had a 'mare with 'keepers this season so i went into this game with one GK: charlie davids. he's been outstanding with three caps for england this season since taking over as the #1 for me. not bad for a free transfer at the start of the game. sadly ...

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-PQM1OCEAA5SG1.png

with no sub 'keeper, we did damn well to hold out for so long but in the end, i figured it was inevitable. oh well, it meant that chelsea would play man utd in 2008 CL final - just like in real life. and for those who recall correctly, didn't cristiano ronaldo and jon terry miss penalties?

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-PS5C6IUAAGZvD.png

everton won the UEFA cup.

back to the league. it was completely in our hands. we had a ten point lead having drawn zero games and lost only 3 then this run of results occurred.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-PT1saCIAAGxZd.png

five friction' draws? plus three draws in four CL games? the chelsea game was 0-0 until the last ten minutes when torres & gerrard nabbed the the three points. it meant the title was pretty much over. when we drew at blackburn four days later, we were champions! the relief was significant.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-PU2tLIgAAHY7v.png

the offseason has already started in an odd manner. harry kewell wants a new challenge and momo sissoko wants so much money, i can't afford him. both will be sold. scott parker's release clause was triggered when west ham were relegated so he'll replace sissoko. brian howard, a 26yo AM LC in the first division, looks like a good bet to replace kewell. or i might move riise to left wing.

think so. got a feeling he played RB in that final.

out of nowhere, jewell stopped wanting a new challenge and as i wasn't willing to sell him to an EPL team, he's stuck around. he's in his final year and he's become even more injury prone so i'll let him leave next year. sissoko eventually accepted a contract. despite this, i signed players to replace them so my first team squad is very deep. thinking of going all out to win the quadruple this season.

money is still an issue. the owners won't expand the stadium. i suspect i'll have to sell some players next summer.

Started a game with Inter. The idea was to build an instant world class team, but I might have to reconsider. It's almost impossible to sign the best players, their clubs always reject my offers with "he's indispensible to the club" no matter how much money I throw at them.

I was sacked yesterday! Can't remember the last time that happened.

I won the PL with Leeds. During the summer break I shifted a lot of players in and out, but I thought I had improved the squad overall. The following season I struggled badly, winning some, losing some and often conceding late goals. The board kept telling me they were worried about poor performances, but nothing like "improve or get out". In April we were 10th, reached the quarter finals of CL but got knocked out by Chelsea. Next thing I knew I was sacked. Awesome!

30-03-15, 08:01 PM
I was looking at the hall of fame within the game the other day and I saw that lot of the best performance were done with Everton. So I started a new game with 3.9.68 Everton but with “not real” players. I finished second the first season, even though, we were bankrupt and I had to sell fake Mikael Silvestre (who somehow was at Everton at the beginning of the game). The second season was catastrophic in the CL but managed to finish second again. I qualified for the second round of the Cl at my third season, but we are 6th in the league right now.

Fake Arsenal surely had a lot of trouble, firing fake Wenger at their first season to replace him by fake Martin O’Neil who was sacked during the second season and replaced by fake Alex McLeish, They are currently 11th and McLeish job is in danger. I might apply for it, but I only have the 19th reputation in England. I was really pushing for the FA cup this year, to boost my reputation, but I will have to face Man Utd, who nearly won every trophies in the first two seasons, in the quarter finals.

Doing a save with Anderlecht at the moment, trying to create an all-Belgian group of invincibles. The domestic league isn't all that, I have won it four times in five seasons, but the Champions League is doing my head in. This year we at least qualified for the second group stage, but when our opponents were Real Madrid and Man Utd (+ CSKA, poor Russians), we were facing an uphill battle. Finished 3rd eventually, on par with Man Utd at 10 points, but they went through on goal difference I think.

My biggest concern is finding a decent GK. The only really good Belgian GK I have found is Courtois of Chelsea, but they keep renewing his contract every year and ain't letting him go.

Preston will have to wait. I noticed a vacant position at Köln in 2nd Bundesliga, and would you believe it, my application was successful.

Köln had only recently been relegated, I took them back up straight away. Our first season back in the top flight ended in 5th. Current league table for season #3 is looking good, I'm especially pleased with the defence:

This should be interesting...

I'm playing my usual 442 NWW, the only change is that I set Harry Kane as a playmaker. He is having a smashing season and a very promising partnership with Icardi!

My real time game ended happily ;) Not only i conquered the conference title but i also grabbed the the FA trophy. Playing every Saturday and on some Tuesdays and Wednesdays was interesting and although i wanted to play sooner, i managed every time to wait till each matchday. Doncaster was my main rival but it started losing in the last 12 games or so and i took advantage of it.

I am currently enjoying my first season with Notts on ODB playing only with NWW tactics.

Won 2. div with 8 matches remaining with Soufiane Koné being my prime goalscorer with 29 in 35 league matches and Darren Caskey making 25 assists in 39.

Players in:
Soufiane Koné
Mike Duff
Hugo Pinheiro
Richie Wellens
Gian Batista Scugugia
Paul Ritchie
Jamie Ingeldow
+ some youngsters

Players out:
Got rid of some of the riff raff and sold Cas, Alsopp and Stallard for 8M combined. However I regret selling Stallard who scored 25 in 35 along with 10 assistsm but Blackburn came in and offered 5m + 25%

Just started season 3 in April 2015 database, been Liverpool from the start.

Finally won league in second season, was gonna either stick all my players on the market, sell and build from young, or, move to another country and try to win their league, and see how many countries top leagues I could win.

Went with, sell loads of players, end up with a transfer budget of ~£150M then blew it buying, Neymar, Bale, and a few others (Already picked up Ronaldo for £10M in season 2)

As per usual, I just couldn't abandon the team I'd built myself, always happens. I did get offered the Portugal managers job though, so that's new.

That's a bit like myself as well. When I left Liverpool after 8 seasons I had over €1B available in transfer funds but rarely spent big money apart from Laporte and Varane!

Literally just started a new game with Celtic last night although no games played yet. Was surprised to see how low some of the players are valued and the board will only allow €2,800 per week for player deemed to be an indispensable member of the squad which could mean a lot less signings than I had first hoped!

About the wage thing, if you give some/all your current players new contracts with max wages, the upper wage limit will gradually be increased. Stupid, I know, but it works.

Just won the PL with Man United in 2050, the club's first title in 31 years! I had a great season after a slow start and won the league with a few games to go. I've got my squad where it needs to be with lots of young talent, I think we should dominate for a few years now. Was a very interesting season elsewhere too. Liverpool got relegated to Division 2, whilst Chelsea got relegated to Division 3! I also had a stint as South Africa manager this season, I took over after their failed qualification for the 2050 World Cup and I managed to win the African Nations with them with relative ease. I resigned soon after. I'll probably look for another national job after the WC, I quite fancy the USA job or maybe Australia. All depends what becomes available though I suppose.

Would also like to say this is the first time I've ever gone past 2050 in a saved game! Here's hoping I can make it to 2100 one day!! :p

Currently on Oct 2014 db I think, started at arsenal noone over 30 allowed in squad and make massive transfer profits. Spent 3 seasons winning nearly everything then upped sticks to Roma ro rebuild them in a similar vein. Ultimate clash of dynasties in cl final vs my arsenal side now managed by Simeone. I won. Now looking around for another fallen giant to resurrect.

So I finally got in to a career game after a long time not playing CM0102. I'm playing with one restriction and that is if a bid comes in for my player over his market value then I must accept it. This has led to some heartbreak over the four seasons I've played so far but it has also helped keep my squad fresh and also my interest in the game (especially trying to find someone to replace a star player that has just been poached).

Season One

I started my career game at my favourite team Manchester City and was tasked with getting promotion in the first season. I would be playing the first season with a non-wib/wob 442 that I have developed over time and has brought me success in the past. I didn't waste any time in the transfer market and brought in a number of new players that I felt fitted my system. These transfers helped to fill out a thin squad and we finished the season in first place winning 33 games, drawing 7 and losing 6. We set a new record of 106 points as well as scoring 105 goals.

http://i.imgur.com/LwYPva6.png

Season Two

So we had made it to the Premier League and I knew my squad wasn't anywhere near good enough to secure a mid-table spot, the board expected us to battle bravely against relegation but I had bigger expectations. We had amassed quite a war-chest from sales throughout the previous season and I spent £20.5million bringing in twelve players in readiness for our maiden season in the top flight; noteable signings included Nicolas Anelka and Vincent Kompany as well as a number of other players who would help bulk out the squad. We performed much better than I had anticipated and we battled to 6th place which meant European football for the first time next season! We also managed to make it to the League Cup final however we were demolished by a rampant Manchester United side.

http://i.imgur.com/RyUTwYT.png

Season Three

We were relatively quiet in the transfer window of season three mainly down to the fact that I felt we had a fairly competitive and substantial squad to help us push on and secure another top half finish. Our only missing piece of the puzzle came in the form of a world-class attacking midfielder and when Andrés Iniesta became available I didn't waste any time at all in snapping him up for a bargain £3.5million. Iniesta helped transform the midfield and we finished one better than last time in fifth place. We also had success in the FA cup and beat Newcastle 2-1 in the final. Unfortunately Europe seemed a bit of a step too much and we crashed out in the second round.

Season Four

With two top six finishes under our belts I strengthened some key areas further by bringing in three defenders and two strikers. Our most notable signing this transfer window was the acquisition of Michael Owen from Liverpool for a whopping £30million. I had been conservative the season before with my spending but with Owen interested in a move to Manchester I couldn't pass up the opportunity and he became our most expensive signing in our history (he more than repaid me by scoring 26 goals in a two striker formation :D). I also tweaked my tactics for this season and played a more defensive 4141 away from home but this tactic was used less and less towards the back end of the season when we needed results. We began the season strongly with a win over Arsenal in the Charity shield. In the league we occupied the top six spots all season and at one point we even had a brief spell at the top of the table; however the wheels fell off in some games which we should have really won and we finished in 3rd place, seven points being Newcastle in second and eight points behind the champions Manchester United. Despite the unfortunate end to the league we did finish strongly in Europe and we beat Bordeaux 2-0 to give us our first taste of success in Europe.

Season Five

With the success of the UEFA Cup in the previous season we would be competing on the biggest stage of them all in this one; the Champions League. Knowing that this season would involve a lot of fixtures I hit the transfer market in order to expand the quality available to me so that I could confidently rotate my squad and challenge on all fronts. By the close of the window I had spent a further £28million and brought in seven players, notably Isaak Okoronkwo, Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Kieron Wall, Aiden McGeady and Stephen Schumacher also made the move to Manchester but these purchases were viewed as investments for the future.

The extra talent was evident as we started the season off steadily and broke in to the top six after fifteen games. From there we continued to go from strength to strength and put ourselves in a commanding position at the top of the table where we stayed until the end of the season. After four seasons, I had won the Premier League!

We also had two very successful campaigns in the domestic cups. Wins over Wolves, Preston, Fulham and Newcastle set up a league cup final against Manchester United (of course...); however, we came unstuck after pushing the game all the way to penalties and United won 4-5. The FA Cup saw us beat Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, West Ham, Tranmere and Fulham en route to the final but again we didn't make it count when it mattered and Middlesbrough scored two goals in extra time to steal the FA Cup from us.

In Europe we embarked on our first Champions League campaign of our history. The qualifying round brought a potential banana skin in the form of Spartak Moscow bur we brushed them aside to advance to the group stages by winning 4-1 on aggregate. Phase 1 couldn't have gone any better and we won 5 of our 6 games and drew the other in a group consisting of Dortmund, Sporting and Paris-SG. Phase 2 got off to a loss against Inter and we didn't recover in the next two games against Sevilla and Celta. Thankfully, we won all three of our remaining games to set up a tie with Arsenal in the quarter final. Over the course of both legs we were the better team and it would be the formidable Roma who would be our next obstacle in the semi-final (oh and they had won the Champions League two seasons in a row). Both legs were a tight affair but it was us who would advance to the final thanks to a single goal from (no other than) Andrés Iniesta. In the other semi-final Juventus had overcome Inter Milan and would be meeting us in Amsterdam for the final. By the time the final had arrived I had already won the Premier League so I was able to field a full strength team in order to tackle the Italian giants. An early goal from Michael Owen and a second from Anelka saw us crowned Champions of Europe.

Wow. What a season. I could have potentially done the quadruple but I'm happy with the double. Over the course of the season I had some terrible disciplinary issues with players getting sent off in every other game. Players would then get upset after I fined them for their dismissals which caused a massive rift in the squad. I made the foolish mistake of chastising Anelka after a particularly poor performance and he is still crying about it now despite the season's success; he's too valuable to sell though (35 goals in 59 appearances in a front two) and I will make him see out his contract if he doesn't come round (by which time he'll be 30 anyway).

After 4 successful seasons at Roma, started getting my usual itchy feet, applied for jobs at spurs and Mainz with no luck. Then one cropped up that fitted my club resurrection plan perfectly. So I've moved to Leverkusen, and boy are they a shambles! Finished 15th last 2 seasons and were 17th 5 points from safety when I joined in Nov. All vaguely decent players sold and very little quality or depth. Won first 2 games to be 2 points from getting out of relegation zone and trying to get some decent cheapish players in to get us a good position. This rebuild job may take a while longer.

Won the league again with Liverpool (16/17 season), followed up with FA Cup and Champ League wins too so decided on a new challenge in a different league. Applied for a few jobs but the one that interested me was Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Before I left Liverpool though - FIRE SALE!!!!!

Put everyone up for transfer and decided I'd sell anyone if I could get more than they were worth. Forgot I had Messi on a pre-transfer, so ended up selling him on after 1 week for an 11million loss. Sold most of my starters, but then also spent a lot of the money on VERY old players on huge signing bonuses, I know for sure I got Ibrahimovic, Buffon and Gerrard on 10 year deals with £5M signing bonuses.

Applied fro a few manager jobs, got offered a few but turned them down as wanted to proceed with the sale, until the Forest one came up, was just too appealing.

After 7 games in the Championship i've won 6 and drawn 1, doing well.

Had decided from the start I was only going to play with Liverpool until I won them the league, but as per usual got too attached to the team and stayed for 3 seasons. Is not that hard... :) Playing on the ODB with 3.9.68 I am in my 6th season now, won the last 4 Ligue 1 titles, heading for a 5th straight (although this season has been more of a struggle) but CANNOT get past the 'Big Boys' in CL knockout stages. Basically the same half dozen teams (Roma, Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man Utd and either Dortmund or Inter) ALWAYS reach the CL semis in some way and although I have won the odd game against them they always beat me over two legs. Still, its been a great career but to be honest Ligue 1 is not very competitive.

Lyon, unlike IRL where they were about to embark on their 7 titles in a row spree are strangely mediocre, despite an impressive strike force of Govou, Wiltord and Lyindula and the rock that is Cacapa at the back. Juninho Pernambuco just sits on the bench whereas he was the real life playmaker and deadly free kick merchant. Maybe they are waiting for Lisandro Lopez to turn up in 2009?

PSG don't know that Ronaldinho is RONALDINHO so they sold him to Kaiserslautern for a pittance :wof: Leaving them with a mediocre team

Marseille are so bad it's unbelievable, flirting with relegation most seasons

Monaco also bear no relation to their real life selves, just floating around 4-6th every year.

The only competition comes from Nantes and St Etienne (the latter with a team of nobodies and a highest AV of 7.2 still finish 2nd or 3rd most years)

What players do Bordeaux have? Just one word - PAULETA!!! Seriously, why does he never appear in any of those lists of guaranteed 30 goals a season guys? Just a goal machine. While at the other end I found an excellent keeper called Bizzarri from Valladolid who wins the French Goalkeeper of the year award every year with around a 7.5 AV. Also, as Pauleta's backup there is a great forward called Eder Bau who starts off at Fiorentina and you can get for like 4 million. The other stars are the unlikely South Korean full back pairing of Lee Yong Po and Song Jong Sook which causes chaos with the French League foreigner restrictions (no room for Tsikalgo in THIS team) but are just amazing, 7.7-7.8 each season.

I just thought I would waffle on about this because nobody seems to play the French League much from the ODB but apart from the crap prize money and ludicrous sub rules (3 Subs in cup games, only 3 non EU players allowed in SQUAD) it's quite a fun league because the 'obvious' teams aren't anything special so you aren't banging your head against a brick wall trying to beat Roma, Milan, Inter, Atalanta and Parma in Italy for example.

Nice rule there, like the argentinians of old. Well finished first season at leverkusen lifted them from 17th mid Nov to a 4th place finish. Best buy axel witsel for £2.5m with 17 goals and 8 assists in 23 games. Also a young Uruguan called Nicolas Flores guess he's a regen got on a free with 9 goals in 10 starts and 5 sub appearances. Got a lot of frees and cheapish deals coming in to rebuild, goals aren't a problem defence is still shaky so hopefully my new squad will improve things. German cup win was a bonus too. Waived my over 30 yeaw old limit for now but it'll go again, have a self imposed £5m transfer and £35,000 a week wage cap to reap some financial gains

Doing a non wib-wob save, started with Valencia. A bit optimistic trying to beat the big boys in Spain, but I think my first season went pretty well.

I've got a Le Havre game in ODB where I was promoted to Ligue 1 at the first attempt and led the way at the halfway point if the next season... fearing it was too easy, I've sold everyone who didn't start their careers at Le Havre and am gonna see how far I can get with exclusively 'academy' players! Might not last the season.

They're 10 games in and sitting in 11th. Buffon and Gerrard are starters but Ibrahimovic can't get a look in.

Also I sold Henderson for £12.25M, they went and bought him back after I left for £27M (Minus the 25% sell on clause I always add of course)

Surprisingly they've only sold 2 players since I left.

Currently in the 23/24 season with Liverpool.
I'm taking part in a challenge with me and some of my friends. Long story short, be the first to win every title in the season 10 times in a row while playing as an English team with no englishmen.
To make things faster, we made our stadiums' capacities 2 million.

Some time ago, we abandoned the practice of a joint save with players taking turns via hot seat and adjusted the goals a bit, but never mind that. The boring part is this:
http://puu.sh/kimKa/f4a90eee70.jpg

That's not even the first page, but you get the picture. Let's not make the post needlessly long.

Here's the part that best describes this save:

- EVERY big team (3.9.68 march 2014/2015 update) is absolutely mediocre now, except Arsenal, with the occasional good stuff from MANU.
- Everton, Milwall and sometimes West Ham are a pretty big deal.
- Barcelona is the all-star team of everything my friends and I couldn't buy while the save was used by everyone, and now we all have the same problem.
- Man City is in the Championship (First division)
- Chelsea is in the Football League One (Second division)
- Newcastle is in the Third Division.
- Boatload of talented youngsters everywhere - work permits and the board getting in the way.
- 2022 World Cup was won by Belgium.
- During the save, 4 out of 6 Copa Americas were won by Argentina, and amongst other facts, is absolutely dominant in South America, while Brazil is mediocre.
- France has won the Confederations cup 3 times in a row. And that's it. Nothing else except a silver medal from a European championship.
- After the end of the 22/23 season, Ludovic Lebeau was rewarded with the FIFA World Player of the Year award with an AMAZING 13 goals and 8 assists in the 21 appearances he made for Liverpool. Outstanding.
- Memphis Depay was not so mediocre, but he was nothing special. And yet he is the only player ever to play in Liverpool to win that award twice.
- Only other players to win that award were Sebastian Driussi (2 seasons ago, before i sold him to Atletico Madrid), Lionel Messi, now one of my coaches, and the ultimate record holder Luis Suarez. (Most league apps for the club - 328, Most league goals for the club - 228)

If anyone is interested in anything else, let me know and i'll deliver.

All in all, this challenge is kinda fun, since my friends have similar progress.

My laptop's hard drive died and I lost my old game so I started a new ODB game as Aston Villa. Finished a distant third in my first season - still pretty impressive, though - but the highlight was undeniably this:

That, ladies and gentlemen, if you can believe it, is the first trophy I can ever recall winning in any football management game. Ever. Granted, that's partly down to my impatience and short attention span, but I'm still really pleased with myself for pulling this off. The best part? The last time I reached a cup final in CM01/02 was in my old Ipswich game, when I lost on penalties. To Liverpool. REVENGE IS MINE! :heh:

Picked up the game again after some months absence a couple of weeks ago, new laptop since then so no old saves. Started a few new ones, abandoned most of them but I have one with Liverpool that I think might go for a while.
4 seasons in I've gathered some trophies, most notably 2 league titles and a European cup.

http://s14.postimg.org/5jj2ddcxt/trophies.jpg

Notable signings include Diego Placente, who has been outstanding at left back; Luca Toni who has been top three performer in Premier League based on ratings the two seasons he has been here; Christian Vieri on a bosman from Inter whose debut season was (unsurprisingly) very good, only beaten by RVN as top scorer in the league; and David Prutton who has had a very solid first season as defensive midfielder. I am trying to sign a very promising-looking young AMC from Wolfsburg, but they want 14M for him and my board thinks that is ridiculous. I do not agree. No competition for him so far though, so there is hope.
Current first choice team:

http://s24.postimg.org/q1yficsr9/1stteam.jpg

I am quite happy with that tactic (I think it is Fodster's creation, but I may remember wrong). It is a very solid tactic, but you need to have the best team to win, which is just how I prefer it.

Then again, you don't always win even if you have the best team, as I am sure most people here have experienced...

I haven't played much this summer. I returned to the game a few weeks ago and after a few unsuccessful try at making a working 4-4-2 wib wob tactics I got tired of losing and moving players around a few millimeters every five minutes. So, I started a classic game that I knew it would be easy, but fun, 3.9.68 Manchester United.

Well, it was a bit too easy. First season with a normal 4-4-2 (forward arrow for Giggs and Veron) I won the quadruple: league cup, FA cup, Premiership and champions league. The biggest challenge was when Ryan Gigs got injured for 6 months, but I replaced him with a mix of Luke Chadwick, Quinton Fortune and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Anyway, with Veron, Beckham, Nistelrooy, Forlan and Silvestre, all finishing with average above 7.5 it wasn't much of a problem.

During the summer, I sold Quinton Fortune to Arsenal (I don't like having foreigner with work permit in my squad) and bought Lewis Buxton (13 years playing that game and it's the first time I notice him!) and 16 years old Anton Ferdinand (I thought it would be cool to have the two brothers in central defence). With West Ham relegated, I try really hard to get Joe Cole and Micheal Carrick, but go figure, they don't seems to want to sell them. I hope the Swedish-Yugoslav guy (I don't remember his name) who's back from loan, will do the job as 2nd AML and third AMC. I tried to sell Laurent Blanc, but at 36, nobody wants him.

Liverpool won the UEFA cup, England won the World Cup, I beat Liverpool in the european super cup and that's where I'm right now.

Something is sure, I will not repeat the quadruple at my second season because I lost my first game in the league cup. I exaggerated with the backups, I guess, even Bojan started the game.

As usual, Bobby Robson retired at the end of the first season and, as usual, Newcastle replaced him with Guus Hiddink. He then sign my transfer target, Michael Carrick, for 16 millions euro. And now, they are two points behind me in the league and they keep on winning. I'm starting to hate them...

Still running with current game, a sum up

Started with Liverpool, stayed with them for 3 seasons, won the league in years 2 and 3 and the champions league in year 3.
Mission accomplished there, I took a job with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, won the league that year, finished 6th in Premier league the next season and also league cup,

Looked around again, went to Norwich in Championship, won the league that season,

Went to Aberdeen in Scotland, they'd just finished 3rd, in my season with them we won the league by 15 points, also first manager of the year award to not be won by Ronny Deila (My main reason for taking the job) and I ended up with all 3 players of the season.

Looked for another job, my rating at the moment is "fair" only team that came back to me was Bucaspor in Turkey Division 2 Category B.

Throughout all this, since I first won league with Liverpool i've been Portugal manager, went out in second round or quarters of world cup, but won the last European Championship.

Normally I struggle with teams, but I'm having an enjoyable run this time round.

A while ago on my now comatose desktop computer I had great fun and occasionally great success winning the league in England with teams in alphabetical order. I decided to start a game doing that again on my current computer.
A die was rolled, and the team to start with became Arsenal, the same as last time. Last time I did it mostly using a wibwobbed 4-4-2 tactic, now I wanted to try something different, and went with a nonwibwobbed tactic that I recently did fairly well with in Northern Ireland, but which I hadn't tested on a higher level. That said, I did expect it to perform well, especially with a good team.

http://s1.postimg.org/i6dtjomm7/Tactic.jpg

The season went pretty well, won the league cup, got to the quarter finals of the FA and Champions Cups, but most importantly we won the league on the first try! I was very happy with the way the tactic worked, and especially happy with how Henry performed in it. One negative experience was that Blackpool snatched David Seaman, who was my first choice in goal, to be their new manager. I've seen it happen a lot that players get appointed player-managers, but I can't remember having it happen to a club I am managing before.

Having achieved what I came to Highbury to achieve, I resigned and waited for a club starting with B to need a manager. Newly promoted Bradford lost their manager to Leeds, so I hoped to get that job, but they went for Graham Rix instead. After a few months, however, a new job became available, and this time I was successful in my bid for it.
I move away from London, and to somewhere that according to this scetch is almost like a murder:

First season with Burnley finished and I am reasonably satisfied with how it went, as relegation was avoided. The margin was much smaller than I would have liked though, and I'm a long way from challenging for promotion I think.
http://s29.postimg.org/cpsyoq73b/0203.jpg

I have a good idea of who I want to keep and who I want to get rid of, and where I urgently need to bring in new players. The wage bill is too high and the income too low, so what small transfer funds were available when I arrived changed into almost half a million debt at the end of the season. Hopefully I can sell 5-10 players that aren't good enough but pretty high valued and on high wages, so I can get the economy in order.
Here is the first choice line up at the end of the season, as you can guess from their squad numbers not many of them were regulars before I arrived, and most of the ones who had played much are now transfer listed or sold.

I've just entered around about year 2105 - I've managed, Arsenal, Colchester, Scunthorpe, Morecambe, Lincoln and now Bristol City. Last team fell into the trap of having 'too much' money so I lost all of my world class players who had unprotected contracts :(

I'm getting a bit fed up of being asked to manage teams throughout the season whilst I'm getting my division 3 teams up to the Prem. Although with Morecambe and Lincoln I had far greater success of wins in the lower leagues than my current team and a lot less players are interested in my current team :(

Finished the 2003/4 season, and it went above expectations! With some reinforcements to the team and some trimming of dead weight, as well as young players improving quite nicely, I had expected to be in the upper half and hoped for a play-off spot, but I did not expect the team to be promoted this year. That is however what happened! :D

http://s27.postimg.org/nq2z8ddw3/Burnleyup.jpg

West Bromwich secured promotion a while before the end of the season, but it wasn't until the last game that Bristol City secured their spot. They were one point ahead of us before that game, but our away win at Sheffield United had no effect as they won their game as well. Beat Charlton in the playoff semi final before facing Birmingham in the final. There was only ever one outcome...

http://s29.postimg.org/rzrq6ytav/Burnleyplayoff.jpg

I am well satisfied with most of my squad this season, the only place I lack quality, at least for upper 1st Division/lower Premier League is attacking midfield and left back. Prilasnig is decent enough at left back but he is mainly a defensive midfielder. I will need to improve other areas as well to challenge for the league win, but I think relegation should be easily avoidable next season.
Only bought 4 1st team players, 3 of whom were successes, and the last one was disappointing but not really poor, ending with 7.00 average rating in 26 games.
Towards the end of the season I did a small change in the tactic, moving one amc up as striker since I had two very good strikers and no very good attacking midfielders. Didn't really change anything with regards to team performance, but it let one of my best players play instead of sitting on the bench.

http://s4.postimg.org/gosdyd2j1/0304team.jpg

Wayne Carlisle was transfer listed and didn't get game time at all at Birmingham, and I cannot understand why as he had excellent stats (20 positioning/crossing/acceleration, 19 determination amongst others) and as you can see excelled as an offensive right back for me. Carlisle and Terry Dunfield were players I recognized but had no experience with. This is one of the things I like with saves like this, I always end up signing players I haven't played with before, at least until the top level players. Much more fun than playing with the same players every time. :)

As mentioned in the last update, the Burnley squad I inherited was not very strong, but it did have some very talented players. Two of my first choice players are still not 20 years old, and I have made Neil Sullivan my 1st choice captain already. I expect them to be key players in the bid for Premiership glory.

http://s23.postimg.org/eg6fg5s6j/Cox.jpg

http://s15.postimg.org/rcgbh8dmj/Sullivan.jpg

In summary: A good season that exceeded the expectations, and I am optimistic about next season. 3-4 quality signings and European qualification is not out of the question, I think. My economy is pretty good too, good performances drew better crowds than last season, and player sales and TV money filled up the coffers as well. Currently I have around £6M to buy for, I expect that to rise when the Premier League TV money and season ticket sales money is in.

Excellent progress, you're motoring through the seasons. Congratulations on the promotion but I don't share the same optimism as yourself; I think you're going to have to be very schrewd with your signings in order to keep yourself in the top half rather than the bottom. Best of luck in the upcoming season though, enjoying the updates.

He is amazing. I am surprised that I don't recognise the name, I've played this game managing in England a few times :p

Jesus is right, need to win the Premier League before moving on to C. I think I managed that in 0506 with Brentford last time I did this, it'll be fun to compare how I do now with how I did then (as far as I can remember anyways, don't remember the years I won after the first couple of clubs, just which clubs I had up to K. I was at King's Lynn when my computer died.)

Lots of work now so only played a month or so, but I think I'm done with signings for the summer, signing 4 players for a total of £1.6M (had to pay 400k for Welsh even though his contract was up). I know Welsh is Premiership quality, and I have high hopes for the three others as well, especially Gedeon. For some reason I managed to sign two non-EU players without any waiting time for work permission, not sure how that happened, but I'm not complaining!

Original 3.9.60 database, so Czech Republic is non-EU. No second nationality on the Argentinian either, and they are on £1400 and £10250 per week, so far below the 35k or so needed to bypass the work permit.

Finished the 0405 season in 6th place, which I am happy with as it was what I hoped for, but there's still a good distance up to the top. We also got to the League Cup final where we were just beaten by Leeds. Ipswich as losing FA Cup finalist (to Newcastle) get a Uefa Cup spot, as do Bolton despite finishing behind me and not being in any domestic cup final, as they won the Uefa Cup. Burnley will participate in the Inter-toto Cup, so hopefully there will be some Uefa Cup games next season.

The team were performing well for their level mostly, but I think I need better players in pretty much every position. Strenghtened the attacking midfield position with Juninho mid-season, which helped, but to win the league I need more quality players and better overall quality. I'm unsure about whether to spend on a striker, Moore is playing well but not scoring so I think Shandran will be first choice next season unless I buy a new one, as he scores a lot more frequently. Main priority will be centre halves though, as two of my four are retiring and one of the remaining is not impressing (though at 20 and with quite good attributes he will get more chances). I have some targets lined up but nothing is decided. I have Juan and another one on pre-contracts, but they both need work permits to play for me so nothing's certain there. My new goalkeeper had a great season and he is still only 20 so I have high hopes for him.

Played until the end of August now, and UEFA Cup participation is secured! Came into the 3rd round of the Inter-Toto Cup, and even though the opposition wasn't of the highest quality I am impressed with how we pretty much steamrolled through it. 5-0, 6-0 and 6-0 aggregate wins is acceptable. Middlesbrough scored after 92 minutes. :(
http://s27.postimg.org/xgpbj9uo3/0506start.jpg

Did a total of 4 signings in the summer, and I think I am set for now. Two players I knew about but haven't got much experience (if any) managing, and two whose names I don't recognize in Bordon and Jamelli. N'Diaye was a record signing, and Jamelli would have been if he had been signed first. Good or impressive starts from three of them, Klomte started by getting sent off after 20 minutes in his first game so he'll have to do better than that, which I expect he will.

I've had various luck with Klompe in the past, but he's potentially very good at least. Bordon is a brand new name for me (I love still having those after 14 years!) but he looks quality and had a very good start. Michael Fox is still just 19 and still doing very well in what is now his third season as first choice centre half. He will be 1st choice with Bordon for now at least.

I got Klompe so cheap because he wasn't getting any game time!

Finished the 2005/6 season, and Burnley are closer than ever to being the best team in the land. Pretty good runs in all three cups, lost to Manchester United in the League Cup quarter final, while Arsenal knocked us out in the semi finals of both the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup. After a not too impressive first few months of the season, our league form improved drastically, especially after signing a new striker around Christmas. After sitting in 1st for a short period in early spring, we ended up in second place, only beaten by Manchester United.

http://s12.postimg.org/qii12ytx9/0506.jpg

I mentioned in a recent update that I was considering buying a more prolific striker, and I wish I had done that earlier. Ian Moore ended with the 2nd best average rating of all my players and scored frequently, but to be the best team we needed an even better man up front. I found him in Russia, wanting away not for lack of gameplay but because he wanted a new challenge. Signed from Spartak Moscow for £2,000,000 was this man, who became a key player for the second half of the season, scoring 25 goals in 24 appearances, having the best average rating not only in my team but also in the Premier League, and ending only 3 goals behind the league top scorer:

http://s2.postimg.org/l6nwabdzt/Vasilyuk_0506.jpg

I think the team is two or three players away from winning, I want a defensive midfielder, a left and/or right back, and possibly a centre back. There are also several players who are still young and already performing very well, and I expect them to improve even more next year.

http://s10.postimg.org/on5fxdehl/young_player_storeslem.jpg

I am mostly happy with this season, though there were a couple of frankly embarrasing defeats, and too many red cards; at one point I had 3 of 4 centre halves suspended.
I think there's a good chance to win the title next year, but it will not be easy.

With Bucaspor in Turkey, won division 2C-B group stage, then also finnished top of the promotion group, which putes me up to division 2C-A or something??

Anyway, started applying for jobs, the first one to come back to me? back to Scotland with Celtic!!

Was looking to reestablish my reputation up with the top clubs, but as a Gers fan, I first have to take the opportunity to crush Celtic.

Shouldn't be too hard, 2 seasons earlier they missed out on the title as I beat the with Aberdeen, and last season they could only finish 3rd as Partick Thistle took the win.

They're already dying, time to finish them off!!!

Re: Last post

Decided to put all Celtic players up for transfer, then made my way to the transfer window. My target? Filter by most caps, and get bidding. Didn't have to buy many as contracts were expiring for most, but I did offer massive signing on bonuses, spent over £90m on that alone. Got players like Rooney, Ronaldo, Suarez, Sanchez, Kompany, Luiz and Dzeko in.

Got rid of everyone else, was only holding on to the oldies with massive caps, but then I was offered a player through the youth ranks, whom I immediately let go.

But I thought that was harsh, so I signed him back, at this point the most I could offer was a £50k signing bonus, and decided that this new 17 year old Gary Stirling(I think) was going to be the future of our team. As he plays centre mid, and I only have one of those in my attacking formation, Corluka got booted to the bench and my youngster is going to play as much as possible.

Started well, a goal and an assist in his first game!!!

Got a second player through from youngsters so stuck him in too.

Taking inspiration from Pegster I've decided to do the A to Z challenge but in Spain. I'm using my own database that I created (click here if you're interested (http://www.champman0102.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7200)) and the first club in my managerial career would be Atletico Madrid who at the time of 2001/2002 were in the Spanish second division.

http://i.imgur.com/uHgvMPO.png

As expected by the board we won the league but did our best to try and throw it away towards the end. The squad I had at my disposal were far too good for the second division and we even managed to get to the semi-final of the Spanish cup before being knocked out by Real Madrid (who won the first division).

Well, after winning the African Cup of Nations with the mighty Lions, and continuing to seek International employment elsewhere, it looks as though my reign as Premier League Champions is coming to an end! I'm eight points behind Chelski, but they have a fantastic squad and don't look like dropping many points. One small ray of light though... We play them last game of the season! If I can peg them back to within 3 points we might just snatch it on goal difference!

There is still a realistic chance of silverware though, we're through to the semi-final of the FA Cup against Chelsea, the winner getting a trip to Wembley* with either West Brom or Man City. We're also 1-0 to the good in the quarter finals of the Champions Cup with Fenerbahce needing to come to Anfield and out score us!

Speaking of Man City, some spectacularly bad transfer decisions have left them languishing in 6th, 14 points behind 3rd placed Arsenal.

I'm suffering through some squad unrest at the moment. Because I choose my team based on form (regardless of age and experience) a lot of my high-earners are a bit pissed that the don't play every game, and Balotelli decided to miss training (which will put him immediately on the transfer list after the last game). It looks like I'll have some rebuilding to do in the summer, which wouldn't be a bad thing for my wage bill.

Also, having kept my eye on mt precious York City and seeing them drop into the relegation places, three points adrift with 10 to play, I decided it was time for a new manager to enter the fray. In comes Jack Reacher as the new manager of York City (and yes, I've just finished reading Persuader by Lee Child). Fingers crossed we'll stay in the division, but the squad is thread bare and they literally have no money.

*Having said that, I've just realised that England don't play home games at Wembley on the update, so I'm not sure if the final will be at the Millennium Stadium? Last season it was played at Cardiff City Stadium.

@Pegster, some great progress and shrewd signings so far. Hopefully next season with a bit more bolstering you'll be able to take the title. Vasilyuk looks the business as do your other signings. You seem to have a good eye for talent. What formation have you been favouring recently?

Using the same 4-2-1-2-1 that I used with Arsenal (posted in an earlier update), have used that almost entirely except for a small period with two strikers and one amc early in my Burnley career.
Vasilyuk has been phenomenal this season as well, scoring a goal a game and setting up plenty as well. He looked good but I had no idea he would be that good when I signed him, and for that price! One of my best signings ever in CM I think. My other signings have been a bit hit and miss, some do very well, like Juninho, while some do very well for one season and then their performances degrade, like Bordon who was one of my best players last season and this season he's nowhere near that level. Others again like Gedeon never live up to their expectations and are scrapped after a season.

Some of my best signings have been a bit lucky as I have had another main target but haven't been able to get them. Vasilyuk was signed when Athletico wanted too much money for Torres, and I don't think Torres would have played much better. I also tried to sign d/dm rl Luka Zauri from Atlanta before this season, and was willing to pay close to £20M for him as he is world class, but my board thought it was unrealistic. Settled for a cheap Colombian in stead who while not at the level Zauri most ikely would have been has done well. My board also thought £4M for the captain of the team that won the World Cup, 33 years old Edgar Davids, was "unrealistic"... He went to United instead and has done well for them. I'll be glad to be rid of my stupid board!

WOW! Incredible end to the season.

Lets start at York City, where new manager Jack Reacher took no prisoners, and won 9 of the last 11 games to easily secure The Minstermen's League status. But what of next season? With a squad of 31, three have requested to leave, three want a new contract, one is already scheduled to leave and another three have their contracts run out during the Summer. We still have no money and don't expect to have any for some time. Free transfers are going to be the priority for mid-season (and perhaps a loan or two from a friend who manages a Premiership side)!

As for Liverpool, we were pleasantly surprised by West Brom beating Man City in the FA Cup semi's to set up a final which never looked in doubt... And after Olsson was sent off they didn't stand a chance as we romped home 3-0. At least I knew we had some silverware this season.

On to the Champions Cup, we got a bit lucky again really as we got CSKA in the semi, avoiding Barcelona who beat Chelsea 5-3 on aggregate in the other semi. As for the final, well, Barcelona dominated throughout but Simone Scuffett was up for the challenge as Barca hit 7 from 13 shots on target before breakout star Samed Yesil hit the winner on the 78th minute. A 1-0 win and the second trophy of the season.

Now for the Premier League. With eight games to go we were eight points behind the highly impressive Chelsea. We kept winning, but they kept winning. Then came the luck, again. We lost a silly game at home to Leicester but on the same day Everton (begrudgingly, no doubt) did us a massive favor and beat Chelsea 1-0. Then the impossible happened - they imploded! Two draws against Swansea and West Ham followed by a loss to Villa and we were back in the race. I was looking forward to playing them last game of the season, but due to the fixture congestion our last game was now against the mortal enemy - Man Utd! Our penultimate game and the final game for leaders Chelsea, they traveled to Anfield with their fate in their own hands, so we took it from them! And to honest, it was disappointingly easy, as Yesil and Sturridge scored the goals to put us one point behind. Chelsea could only look on and watch as we invited Man Utd to Anfield for a final season showpiece. The lads were knackered, having played a game every 2 days eight games this was our moment to retain the Premier League... Joe Allen's early injury didn't help and things got worse as Rooney scored for Man Utd after 42 minutes. Then, that good luck (unbelievable luck) came back as Luke Shaw scored an own goal to level the game and put us top of the table on goal difference. And then 3 minutes from time Omar Al-Soma (a player who took some time to settle, but finally lived up to the hype) nestled the ball in the back of the net to secure a glorious treble. I don't think I've ever been so surprised by this game. Usually the luck goes the other way, but not this season.

I still have an unhappy squad and to be honest I have far too many senior players. I have to put my sentimentality aside and ditch the highly payed players who aren't matching up and bring in a fresh drop of youth players. I'm also hoping that the rumors of England not being contenders at the forth-coming Euro's leads to a vacancy at the one International team I dream of managing. There's an interesting summer ahead and a lot of change at two clubs fighting at the opposite ends of the football league.

Thanks again to the update team, I've not had this much with 0102 for quite some time.

Continuing my career with Bolton, 2023, just tried to sign Lewandowski on a free transfer, he accepted, but I had to delay the transfer for a week as I didn't have enough space, next player to accept was Messi, same thing happened.

Then without selling anyone, the next player I bought went straight in to my squad. I checked my stats, I have 32 players. I've been signing and selling other players throughout the week, and now it'll let me take in Messi, but still says I don't have enough space in my squad when it comes back to Lewandowski.

Ten days to play a season, damn work keeping me away from the game! Anyhoooooooo:

http://s21.postimg.org/qh7tcok5z/0607.jpg

Was a close race, 5 teams playing catch with the #1 spot, and Ipswich/Fulham trailing close for most of the season. I thought I lost it when I had a barren spell of one win in ten games in November/December, but the other top teams also gathered nice chunks of defeats and draws so it didn't matter in the end.

Vasilyuk was absolutely amazing again, I'm probably going to try to buy him to my next club, along with a few other players. One player I'm definitely not bringing is Terry Dunfield as he tried to mess up the league finish by doing a newspaper interview in medio April saying he wanted a transfer (without ever mentioning such a thing to the club), making half the squad hate him.

http://s22.postimg.org/gungq2wjl/Vasilyuk0607.jpg
http://s3.postimg.org/yixq2deyb/0607squad.jpg

Said in last update that I might only need a few signings to challenge for the title, and i was correct about that. Had two main targets, Luca Zauri as an expensive but world class offensive back capable of playing on both sides; and Edgar Davids as defensive midfielder as he was still world class at 33, and available and interested in joining. My board, however, thought their respective price tags of £19M and £4M were unrealistic, so they blocked the transfers. Being unabke to buy those two, I went for Thomas Gravesen as dm, at a club record breaking transfer fee, and the for me completely unknown (until my scout told me about him anyways) Colombian full back Gerardo Alberto Bedoya. Also signed Isaak Okoronkwo, a Nigerian drlc who probably is familiar to many here. He was unhappy at Rennes and had a £1.1M buyout clause which I took advantage of. Real Madrid then took advantage of the £3.4M buyout clause he had in his contract with Burnley (forgot to remove that when negotiating the contract with him) and he's off to Spain in the summer.

Very happy with Okoronkwo in particular, but Gravesen too was splendid. Bedoyan wasn't as good as Zauri would have been but he did a good enough job, especially considering his price tag.

Off to new pastures now, and to be honest getting away from Burnley will be a relief. Apart from Vasilyuk a lot of the players have been a bit annoying with their random poor performances, and the board blocking my transfers is frustrating. A fresh start will be nice, whether it's at a high level with the chance of winning the league within a few years again or at conference level with some proper team building. Things are calming down at work too so I should have time to play more in the coming weeks. :D

I am managing Bournemouth in the Premiership will all the new updates etc. I have used the EEC hack so I can avoid work permit problems with non-EEC players. But I have to say I am finding the game much more difficult then previously, even with the odd gem of a Korean!. Avoiding relegation is really an achievement in the first season the highest I finished in the three saves was 12th. I play home friendlies against non-league teams mid season in order to keep morale high and earn cash.
I have started three different saves with Bournemouth and in one them I was relegated in my first season (I have not deleted the relegated one as I feel it would be a challenge to get a team heavily in debt promoted again - I spent big on bosmans!). If you want a difficult save play as Bournemouth, because they have a massive injury crisis Gradel, Mings and Wilson are all out for most the season. The ground only holds 11000 and there is only 8 million in funds to spend. Atsu is your best player and he is on loan even he is inconsistent! The defence is a shambles. The best non-loaned player is probably Arthur. Ritchie is good on the set pieces, King is versatile and Tomlin is OK. But to get a decent amount of funds you probably have to sell these players. The whole squad needs an overhaul!

Now I'm able to run a max database game with the lastest patch/database... :)

I set the starting date for july 2015, but let the game play until the reinitialisation of the japanese league. Then, I took the shape of a new caledonian manager (hell, why not ?) and settled myself in the recently promoted Verdy 1969. I've never took charge of a japanese team before, so it's a really random start.

Woaw. It's a mess. The best players have been already sold, and those still here are crying for more playing time, a new contract, or a move to a bigger team. The wisest of them, who were asking for nothing, retired almost immediately. Infrastructures were good, but there was nothing to save in the staff. By J League 2 standards, we were poor.

I put some more discontent players on the transfert list but kept the better without their consentement. This way, we managed to earn some needed money. Two new coaches with some skill were added to the staff. As fog of war is turned on, the scouts were sent working in Japan, in Oceania, and for youngsters. Twenty days before our first league match and the team is just bare bones, so I was in a hurry. I scanned myself the players who could agree to play with us, but due to the fog of war only those with caps reveled their attributes to me. And we cannot align more than 4 foreigners at the same time.

Luckily, the candidates weren't that numerous. We grabbed a decent and needed thai fullback, two nice new caledonian forwards who were playing in France (must by my in game nationality which helped). And a papuan because he was cheap, seemed to know what to do with a ball, and I lacked offensive people... I mean he plays forward too. Add some local players, few youngsters, and we succeed in aligning a starting eleven. We even could fill the seven subs. And all of this before the transfert deadline.

We did well during the first league half. Strangely well to be honnest. 10 points behind the first place, 20 ahead the relegation zone. A very correct performance. As another transfert period started, I get rid of more angry players and was able to bring a few reinforcements. A DC, some youngs with potential. It looked bright and easy.

I was wrong. The second half was a disappointement. As the opposition brought a lot a new signings, strenghtening themselves, we won only two games over three months. The job was done, we endend 7th, but in the end the relegation teams were closing in. Our defence is made of traffic cones, but the forwards did a huge piece of work (sadly, not the papuan one, who was just good at injuring spectators with his mighty-going-well-wide-shoots).

Here I am, ready to start the new season. To make it worse, there is no money left, so I can't make my players resign and all the future deals were cancelled. Why ? Because Verdy shares its stadium with FC Tokyo. 56600 seats, way to much expensive for us to maintain. The board halved the max salary capacity. Only a few mads want to join us now. The situation is... precarious :)

Finished the 0708 season, and though it wasn't as easy as I had hoped/feared, promotion was achieved!

http://s17.postimg.org/78yht6wen/0708.jpg

I had a couple of stints in direct promotion place, but most of the season was spent between 3rd and 7th, with playoff being secured a few games before the end.
When the final came, I was a bit worried that my squad was too thin, since I had a total of 7 injuries/suspension in my 18 player first team squad, but luckily enough the 11 available players were exactly the right positions to fill the positions the team needed. With more than a week's rest since last game everyone not injured was fully fit too, so barring injuries or sendings off, the somewhat poor quality of my substitutes shouldn't become a problem. And some of them were among the players who had taken the team to 7th place at the time I took over, so they weren't too bad, just not good enough to be anything more than reserves. The game was against Leyton Orient, and there was never much competition to be had from them on this occasion.

http://s12.postimg.org/zbrfgnvzh/playoffsquad.jpg
http://s21.postimg.org/b3bnebnef/Playoffwin.jpg

The team I took over had done a good job up to that point, sitting in 7th, but looking at it I noticed at once that there were no defensive midfielders at all in the team, which is unfortunate when my preferred formation requires two of them, and the overall quality wasn't too good either. Some areas were well covered for now at least, but in addition to the lack of dms, the defensive part of the team wasn't impressive. Inheriting a full roster of decent but not high quality scouts, I sent them scouring Europe for talents, and they did not disappoint.

Before the end of January, 8 players had come in, for a combined transfer fee of £1,155,000. I would have spent £7k more on another dc, but by the time I found him I had no more transfer funds. This annoyed me as we had more than a million in the bank, but the wage bill of the club was a lot higher than it could handle in the long run, so I can understand where the board were coming from. I am working on slashing the wage bill, 10 players sold so far, though for less than I've bought for, and everyone not in the first team squad is transfer listed. Promotion should help the finances though, so I am not worried about that bit.

Overall I am quite happy with the contribution my signings did, if I should single out one particular signing it would be Oliveira. He was amazing.

8 new signings, 7 of whom were for the first team and one promising but not yet good enough dc for the future (if I stay at the club for more than 1-2 seasons more), all performed well. I thought McNicholl wasn't scoring enough, so I bought Dean Shiels (who should be a familiar name for some) from Wrexham for £250k, and that was a very good investment. Oliveira and Kristensen also continued their excellent performances from last year, while new Danish signing Schrøder teamed up wonderfuly with Oliveira in defensive midfield.
The only area I'm not happy with now is attacking midfield, but I think I need to wait until after the season update to get proper quality AMs for the top of Premier League. I have a couple of potential targets on Bosmans, but they refuse to sign for me for now at least. I hope they will still be available when we become a Premiership team, as that will probably make them more likely to sign. I am also unsure if Need is a good enough goalie, but unless 36 years old Kihlstedt retires in the summer I won't sign a new one for now, as finance are a bit tight. £1.6M in transfer funds right now, which will increase after the TV and season ticket money comes in, but the stadium needs an upgrade and I'm not sure how much I will have to spend in the summer, I am guessing around 10M, so I will have to get some good deals to get top quality AMs in, especially if I also want a goalie.

Dean Shiels is one I remember from my original ChampMan0102 days!
Brilliant, certainly at lower league level. Can't remember how he got on at the top.

I can't remember having him at a top club before, only lower leagues, and I haven't seen him at other top clubs much either. He's doing pretty good but not outstanding, 13 goals in 20 halfway through the season. Tried to sign Vasilyuk as his contract was unprotected, but he chose Manchester United instead :(

At the start of January we are third, behind invincible-looking Leeds and Chelsea who together with Manchester United, Burnley and us are a few points behind them.

Oliveira and Kristensen are you stand out performers that season, you've progressed quickly and hauled a massive points tally to cap that season off. Are you playing with the latest Tapani patch out of interest? The newregens that Tapani has introduced may resolve the whole "it's getting easier as I get further in" issue.

Playing with the original game straight from the CD, no patches attached.

Fair enough! Suppose the non-coloured attributes gave that away.

Yep, I've somehow managed to keep my CD and avoided breaking it all these years :D
I've never tried any of the patches, since they're not compatible with the original game and I can't be bothered to download the 3.9.68 version when I already have a functioning one :p

Game update: Just after Christmas I thought the title was lost beyond recovery as Leeds were rushing ahead and at some point had a 12 point lead on us and Chelsea, but they've had a few defeats lately and in game 33 we played them at home, while Chelsea faced a difficult away game in Newcastle.

It's completely open again and it's going to be an exciting race for the title between the three clubs. On paper we have the most difficult end to the season with an away game at Manchester United up next and Arsenal away as the last game of the season, while Leeds face Burnley and Man. Utd. at home. Chelsea have no particularly difficult games left, and if they had the same amount of points as us and Leeds I'd say they were favourites, while with three points to catch up I'm not so sure. One thing that is in my favour though is that both Leeds and Chelsea are still in the Champions League, and they are also playing each other in the FA Cup final. One can always hope that their players will be tired and that they get some injuries.
On a sidenote, I am somewhat amazed that United with a strike force consisting of Raul, Vasilyuk, Heidar Helguson and a very promising-looking 20 years old Argentinian regen have only managed to score 39 goals in 33 games. Raul has 7 goals, Vasilyuk 9. Such a waste of goalscoring abilities!

For my first career in like 10 years on this game, I've decided to take Worksop Town FC, a club I have already managed in Football Manager a few years ago. They are in the 6th English division and have no budget.
So far the results have been awesome (well, I'm using the Iodine tactic... but I don't bother, I want to have fun and I'm mainly a roster-manager), I've been 1st in Conference North, then 1st in Conference, and then, I managed to be promoted with a second place in League 2. I as seeing myself being on the edge of having t go through the playoffs, but the last game of the season pushed me at 2nd.
Now, to my surprise, I'm quite easy in League 1, being 1st after a bit more over 10 games. I was not expecting such a season. Better than last years so far.
My strikers are good, and I got a very good CDM this summer (Danny Jones), who is really being an anchor in the middle. I have quite some money this year (1.9M€, after having 0€ a year before!) but not a lot of good players want to come in Worksop. Mainly some lower league english guys. I can't land a Reyad or Tsigalko :D

It was a rat race to end the season, and it was decided on the very last day who would win. Leeds were two points ahead of us, but not with as good a goal difference; Chelsea were one point behind us, 3 points behind Leeds, and with better goal difference than either. If Leeds won, they won the league. If we won and Leeds failed to win, we won. If Leeds lost, we failed to win and Chelsea won, Chelsea won the league.

Close, but no cigar.

The team performed very well, and the season went better than expected. I am happy with my signings, ended up signing three attacking midfielders, and a utility defensive player mid-season mainly as cover on the backs. I need a goal scorer though, 18 goals in a season as a lone striker just isn't good enough. The club doesn't have too much money, but Vasilyuk only cost £2M when I brought him to Burnley, so a lack of big transfer money doesn't mean we can't sign a top quality striker.

I've grown a bit bored with this save now, so I'll probably not update it as often, but I'll keep playing it and it'll probably become my main save again in a bit.

A thrilling season finale! How late in the game did Leeds secure that draw?

ps: I remember when Mendonça made his debut for Varzim in the Portuguese league... I feel old now :P

CRAZY end of the season with Worksop in BPL!
So I've been 2nd all year. Yeah, thank you IodineCF.
Man U is just unbeatable.
But at the 37th game, I pass them but they have 2 games left and have a very little advantage on goal difference.
My hope is that Arsenal beat them and I can be champion!!

Unfortunately, MU beat them, and then, well, they face Coventry.
And the unexpected happens: Coventry wins 2-0, I beat Newcastle, Worksop champion for their first season in BPL.

For those who wonder, yes IodineCF is basically cheating :D
6 seasons, 6 differents divisions, 5 times champions, 1 time second. Never seen such an OP tactic.

Has anyone noticed that various attributes for players seem to disappear completely? I cannot find a GK on mine with reflexes above 12, with positioning & handling @ 15. They just do not seem to exist.

Also the Messi regens I've had over the years do not have any pace or acceleration.

I'm in year 2100 by the way.

Any ideas?

Damn Pegster, you were unfortunate to not secure that league title but with some strengthening in the summer you should take it next season. Shame you've grown bored of the save already, I was enjoying your updates.

They were 3-2 up at half time, then Millwall equalised after 73 minutes.
"Bored with" was probably wrong expression, I just feel like playing some other saves as well. Definitely not shelving this one, just going to alternate more between this and others instead of pretty much only playing this one.

Congrats on the win, Romano, even if it's with IodineCF! :D

Season two complete and my god, what a clusterfuck of a season. I signed far too many foreign players too soon and completely ruined the balance of my team. As a result every game was a fight for points and we ended the season in 8th place. Over the summer I'm going to have a massive clear out and get some players who fit the correct moulds. On a positive note though we did win the Spanish cup!

Still trying to figure out where IodineCF can bring me with Worksop:

2001-02: Won Conference North
2002-03: Won English Conference National
2003-04: 2nd in League 2
2004-05: Won League 1
2005-06: Won FL Championship
2006-07: Won Premier League
2007-08: Won English Premier League + Champion's League + FA Cup

Won everything big competition (so outside of national cups) the first try, except League 2.

On a darker side, after winning the BPL twice and winning the CL, the board announced me they had extended our 15.000-seat stadium. Now we have 18.400... Come on...
