Here's a starter for ten
Argentina: Independiente (As the won the Metropolitano & finished 2nd in the Nacional in my year of birth 1983)
Australia: This would be St. George Saints as they won the league in 1983, but as the club is not in the top league anymore it will have to be Newcastle United Jets (as I like planes and they have a plane on their crest)
Belgium: Standard Liege (as they won the league in 1983)
Brazil: Flamengo (as they won the league in 1983)
Croatia: Hajduk Split (Highest placed Croatian team in 1983, finished 2nd behind Serbian club Partizan)
Denmark: Lyngby (as they won the league in 1983)
England: Chelsea (as they are the team I support)
Finland: Ilves (as they won the league in 1983)
France: Nantes (as they won the league in 1983)
Germany: Hamburger SV (as they won the league in 1983)
Greece: Olympiacos (as they won the league in 1983)
Italy: Roma (as they won the league in 1983)
Japan: Tokyo Verdy (as they won the league in 1983)
Netherlands: Ajax (as they won the league in 1983)
Northern Ireland: Glentoran (As they used to have a player called Chris Walker, which is my real name)
Norway: Vålerenga (As they won the league in 1983)
Poland: Lech Poznań (As they won the league in 1983)
Portugal: Benfica (As they won the league in 1983)
Republic of Ireland: Athlone Town (As they won the league in 1983)
Russia: Spartak Moscow (As they were highest placed Russian team in the league in 1983)
Scotland: Inverness CT (Dunno why, but I have always followed them)
South Korea: Chunnam Dragons (As I have a fascination with myths & magic, Dragons being my favorite mythical creature)
Spain: Athletic Bilbao (As they won the league in 1983)
Sweden: IFK Göteborg (As they won the league in 1983)
Turkey: Fenerbahçe (As they won the league in 1983)
United States: Sporting KC (Dunno why they used to be called Kansas City Wizards & I have a fascination with myths &
magic)
Wales: Airbus UK Broughton (As they have a plane on their crest)
Sorry my reasons are not more inventive but it the way I chose team from other countries, apart for a few (e.g. Inverness CT, Chunnam Dragons, Glentoran & Sporting KC)
My entry. You will see that I generally go for teams with funny names or well known clubs.
Argentina: Argentinos Juniors (Maradona's first club)
Australia: Newcastle Jets (see England for reason)
Belgium: Royal Antwerp (probably the first Belgian team I had heard of)
Brazil: Santos (For Pele)
Croatia: Hadjuk (couldn't name many others)
Denmark: Brondby
England: Newcastle United - the team I support and quite frankly the best team in the world :director:

Greece: Olympiacos
Italy: Inter Milan
Japan: Nagoya Grampus 8 (don't even know if they are in game? Never managed in Japan!)

Norway: Molde (pronounced Mouldy in my mind!)
Poland: GKS Katowice (from Are You the Next 4!)
Portugal: Farense (had a decent holiday in Faro once!)
Republic of Ireland: Cobh Ramblers (always thought that was a brilliant name since Keane came over)
Russia: Tom (great name!)
Scotland: Either of the Queens (Queens Park or Queen of the South. Funny names imo)
South Korea: Could have been anyone as they are all sponsored by big corporations but I'm going for Suwon Samsung Bluewings purely for incorporating Samsumg AND Bluewings!
Spain: Barcelona
Sweden: Hammarby
Turkey: Fenebache
United States: New York Cosmos first or Vancouver Whitecaps as Peter Beardsley played for them.
Wales: Airbus (there 's a runway behind their ground. What can be cooler than that?)

Denmark: --
England: Leeds United (been a fan since they played in 2nd div. in the 80s)
Finland: Is there a club in Jokkmokk?

Germany: Hamburger SV (The only city in Germany ive ever visited. Nice place! The biggest city in the EU (measured by inhabitants) that is not a capital, at least thats what im told)
Greece: Panathinaikos (The norwegian midfielder maestro Erik 'Myggen' Mykland played there 3 yrs. The norwegian Pirlo. What a player he was..)

What an interesting question!
Please bear in mind I have almost zero knowledge of football outside the game, I hope none of my choices are assosciated with any kind of Ultras.
Argentina: Never played here, so no preference.
Australia: Never played here, so no preference.
Belgium: Never played here, but I would pick a team from the Luxembourg region, and sign loads of players from the Luxembourg country
Brazil: Played here once, there is the national league and the regionals, I would find the least attended region and pick a team from there. THe only time I managed here I picked Bahia (I think) so small they let people watch for free.
Croatia: Managed Vukovar, I think IRL they no longer exist.
Denmark: Managed some lower league team here once, cant even remember who, if I do so again I will try to get as many Faroes as possible into the team.
England: Portsmouth maybe, Havant & Waterlooville also.
Finland: Never managed here
France: Never managed here
Germany: Never managed here
Greece: Any team not on the mainland I suppose, and I could sign loads of Cypriots
Italy: SAN MARINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Japan: Never managed here, often wanted to but the domestic league is very short
Netherlands: Never managed here
Northern Ireland: Linfield and Glentoran. Happy to manage any Belfast club to get better attendance, have managed Carrick, Glenovan, H&W, Cliftonville, Crusaders and Institute previously and happy to do so again.
Norway: Never managed here, maybe a team as far north as possible
Poland: Love Crakow so any team from there
Portugal: My first ever CM2 game I picked the Scottish, Portuguese and Nederlands leagues. Picked Porto, got sacked after about a month, never been back.
Republic of Ireland: Never managed here.
Russia: Never managed here. Maybe a team as far east as possible, is there a Vladivostock Utd?
Scotland: Queens park, to use the Glasgow attendance once in the top league
South Korea: Never managed here, the team on that island with no attendance maybe, Jeju is it?
Spain: Andorra! Also managed Barcelona C (previously) and Real Madrid C now Gijon, but actually I HATE SPAIN. I can't stand always having a team with no B team. Never managed a Basque team.
Sweden: Never managed here
Turkey: Never managed here, are there any Kurdish or Armenian teams?
United States: did the florida team once. Seem to have gone bust.
Wales: in the closed league I was Afan Lido and Port Talbot to boost each others attendance, also llanelli who have the best attendance overall and have been TNS and Cefn Druids too. Now using t3 is an open league and am UWIC Inter Cardiff with Bala and one other new team having the best gates, been to bala lake in real life too.
Argentina: Boca Juniors (Best team when i started watching football)
Australia: Melbourne Victory
Belgium: RSC Anderlecht
Brazil: Corinthians
Croatia: Diname Zagreb
Denmark: Brondby
England: Chelsea (Had a long save with them on ODB)
Finland: Helsinki
France: Lyon (Long save on ODB)
Germany: FC Bayern (Favorite team)
Greece: AEK Athens
Italy: Juventus (Since ODB)
Japan: Tokyo Verdy (Hulk played there)
Netherlands: Ajax (Amazing youth)
Northern Ireland: Glentoran
Norway: Molde
Poland: GKS Katowice (AYTN4)
Portugal: Porto (Since CM 03/04)
Republic of Ireland: Cork City
Russia: CSKA Moscow
Scotland: Celtic
South Korea: Pohang Steelers
Spain: FC Barcelona (For fun)

Greece: Chania FC (SKALIDIS)
Italy: Napoli (dunno why)
Japan: Urawa Red Diamonds (cool name)

"Boavista Futebol Clube"
- Start in Second Division B
- 7 years >or< in the utter depths of spiraling bankruptcy hell
- 30k stadium, albeit stands being constantly closed
- absolute need to scavenge youth search and rummage through freebies
- Challenge of re-awakening a semi-giant
Good Luck!

Isn't Queens Park (Scottish team) one of the toughest jobs to do?

Latest update nad... any club in Poland. For just one reason: even though Poland's in EU now it's still "only 5 non-Polish players" rule. So you'll find much easier to sell players abroad and make some money this way, BUT: will have to depend mostly on Polish players only. And they are rather... crap. No Pawel Brożek, Marcin Harasimowicz, Jaroslaw Swietochowski or any other legends among them ;) Real challange. And also a satisfying one. Good luck! :ok:
Poland: Lech Poznan (they seemed to like the irish in poznan during the euros)
C'mon, man! who doesn't like the Irish in Poland? one of our most popular love ballad's title (and lyrics) says: "I love you as I love Ireland" ;)
http://youtu.be/3G0OG6ngu_U
And who the fuck knows why? :noidea: :loco:
International management for a slight change of pace? can still manage a club at the same time to fill in the gaps between comps etc?
Just a thought
Cheers

Hello all, looked around on the boards and was surprised to not see this kind of post - I've played with my favorite team (Southampton) aswell as West Ham(awesome team to manage) , Liverpool (few buys and you are champions),Napoli (Seria A winners first season), Blackburn and Bournemouth (Both good for building a team to go in the prem with). Was wondering if anyone had any tips on some good teams to be on the new updated version?? I'm looking for....
Preferred League: Any main League in Europe
Financial information: Any, as long as it doesn't have any major debts.
Expected position: Mid table or lower.
Training/youth facilities: The higher, the better but I'm open for suggestions.

Sounds like Palace and Stoke are decent challenges in Prem
I'm having fun with Swansea on one of my games
for a real challenge go Queens Park in Scotland
Maybe a French team as might be a challenge to get ahead of moneybags PSG and Monaco?
Or maybe rebuild a Spanish team and try and topple Barca/Madrid - maybe go Valencia/Villareal?
Dinamo Zagreb have a load of "Wonderkids"
Wolfsburg or Schalke have good talents and can try and challenge Bayern/Dortmund

Cheers for the response. I think I might try this Queens Park challenge.
Sheffield Wednesday are a good club to take over on the new update. They have a rather mediocre team but a lot of potential and a great base to start off with. I used non wibwob tactics and just missed out on the playoffs in first season...
2002: 7th (Championship)
2003: 2nd (Championship)
2004: 10th (Premiership)
2005: 5th (Premiership)
2006: 4th (Premiership)
2007: 1st (Premiership)
2008: 4th (Premiership) + Champions League Winners
2009: 1st (Premiership)
All with realistic tactics, varying from 4141, 4411, 41311 depending on our playing squad. Macheda is doing the bizness up front for us now :D It's been very rewarding!

Newcastle are similar.
They have a few decent players to get you started but a small squad that you can make your own in the first season.
A nice choice in my latest game.
Tanzo85
30-01-14, 12:22 PM
I've read that mentioned in another topic. What's the deal with them? Just low cash and an awful squad to try and improve kinda thing? Or is there something that doesn't meet the eye on first glance?
Redknapp69
30-01-14, 12:45 PM
What team you talking about?
Tanzo85
30-01-14, 01:07 PM
Sorry I meant Queens Park.
Kingsley
30-01-14, 01:29 PM
Queens Parks problem is finances. They have crowds of 3 men and a dog and have to maintain Hampden Park (about 50,000 capacity) add to that a shit squad and no cash and you are soon in mega debt with no chance to clear it. Even if you get to the SPL, you will be in huge debt with low crowds and a maximum wage of £250 per week. Near impossible.
316'sRegen
30-01-14, 01:57 PM
Newcastle.
They have a decent starting 11 but a small overall squad, making it easy to make the team your own within the first season.
Good stadium allowing a respectable income, but maybe not as high expectations as other prem clubs, meaning you should exceed the boards targets in the first season.
Tanzo85

Funninly enough I do get bored after 2/3 seasons and flit around
Always meant to ask about Queens Park, are they set in editor as owning the stadium? I know they do IRL, but the SFA cover the costs so they ain't out of pocket, but if they own it in the editor then they are going to get massive debts.
To the original question, try managing in a league you've not managed in before with little money, the unfamiliarity of everything should present a challenge.
Just tick the "use real players? NO" box. Should liven things up :)

So you can start with a Belizian 17yo winger with 18 goals in 3 internationals :D
Tanzo85
13-02-14, 12:53 PM
Yeah good point. I checked them out in my current game and finances were "ok" 2 seasons in so unless something changes when you personally manage them I'd have guessed it could only be a good thing having a big stadium and more fans coming in as your rep hopefully improves, without you having to pay to build the ground up.
I could also be very very wrong
I dont mind a game or two in Australia, its worth a pop.

Funninly enough I do get bored after 2/3 seasons and flit around :lol:I'm usually like that. Been managing Charlton for a year now, got them promotion and currently top of the table winning 14 out of 14 and it's getting boring.
I'll think I'll start a fresh game for tonight. Boavista it will be.

Good Luck!I've reached Xmas in the first season and the financial situation looks much rosier. 80% of the club's debt has been cleared leaving 400k in the red.
A lot of the original squad are on the transfer list and I've bumped up their value. Wellington Cris & Cid are priced at £500k and both are attracting interest from numerous clubs. If I can sell these two and keep on wheeling and dealing, I should be in the black and also have some cash to spend for next season.
As for on-the-field matters, I began the season with 20 players including loanees and since the window re-opened it's grown to 24. Had a lot of sending offs and two of the squad were each banned for seven games :frusty:
Currently third in the league but eleven points behind the leaders. Not confident the squad is good enough yet but I'm predicting successive promotions for season 2 and 3 :first:, then I'll be mixing it with the big boys again.
Dubinho
16-02-14, 10:52 AM
^ Sold those two in the window for over a million giving me some money to spend. Brought in 3 on a free and 3 for a combined total of 90k.
I did manage to clinch promotion in the end but it was tight.
Not that tough really but I did receive two cash injections from the board plus I had an away cup game at Sporting. All of that revenue combined came to nearly £1.5m.
Sold a few players during the close season and by the time the new one started, I had well over a million to spend on players. Going by experience that will be enough to get Boavista challenging for the title in a couple of years.
Boavista's definitely not as hard as managing a bankrupt Italian side where the players are on thousands per week. That's when it does spiral out of control.
If you want real challenge try Itallian league with smaller club from original season 2001/02.There is no way to come even into Champions League, let alone win Serie A.Juve, Milan, Roma, Lazio, Parma and Inter will make sure of that. :)

A lot of mine are based on clubs United players have also turned out for
Argentina: Boca Juniors - saw them vs. Man Utd at Old Trafford in 2002 and their small but noticeable following makes them worthy (Carlos Tevez got sent off for throwing a punch at Paul Scholes!)
Australia: Melbourne Heart...for now - my podcast (The Football Pubcast, check us out!) have been following them for a couple of years but given their new ownership I might have to re-consider this...
Belgium: Royal Antwerp - United feeder club and sleeping giant
Brazil: Gremio - mainly because of Ronaldinho in CM 00/01
Croatia - No preference, maybe Hadjuk Split?
Denmark: Brondby - for Mogens Krogh, perennial 2nd choice Denmark goalkeeper in 1990s sticker books
England: Manchester United - the club I've grown up adoring
Finland: FC Jazz - because Harchester United's Danny Moliano joined them (Dream Team was a great show...
France: Marseille - home town of Eric the King
Germany: Borussia Dortmund - my best friend had their fluorescent yellow Champions League winning kit
Greece: Olympiakos - was bought an Olympiakos scarf by a friend who went on holiday to Greece when I was a kid...
Italy: Roma - was bought a Roma shirt by my Mum when she went on holiday to Italy as a kid...
Japan: Urawa Red Diamonds - saw them play Boca in the 2004 Vodafone Cup at Old Trafford
Netherlands: PSV Eindhoven - Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ji-Sung Park
Northern Ireland: Cliftonville - no real preference to be honest but a mates family support them
Norway: Molde - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Poland: LKS Lodz - United played them in Champions League in the 90s
Portugal: Sporting - Ronaldo and (to a lesser extent) Nani
Republic of Ireland: Dundalk - remember a few good United friendlies in the 90s
Russia: Zenit St Petersberg - brilliant in their 2008 UEFA Cup winning season
Scotland: Brechin City - used to play as them on CM2, plus Brechin is nowhere near a city!
South Korea: Kyoto Purple Sanga - Ji-Sung Park
Spain: Real Madrid - had a "Mijatovic 8" shirt which I bought on my first holiday abroad in 1997 (and Real beat Barca while I was out there for the Supacopa de Espana), plus Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham
Sweden: Hammarby/Hacken - for the legends that are Kennedy Bakircioglu/Kim Kallstrom...
Turkey: Galatasaray - just a very interesting club with a unique fanbase
United States: LA Galaxy - Beckham
Wales: Barry Town - always seemed to do well in the 90s
I'll have a go:
Argentina: Boca Juniors (La Bombonera is a fantastic stadium)
Australia: There's a league in Australia?
Belgium: Standard Liege (Lived in Liege for a while)
Brazil: Flamengo (Biggest club in Brazil with a massive following, Zico's club and a stylish first kit!)
Croatia: no idea.
Denmark: nope.
England: Southampton (one word Matthew Le Tissier. Ok make it 3)
Finland: I don't care for ice hockey
France: Used to be PSG before they went all capitalist pigs. So AS St Etienne now.
Germany: Hamburg (wonderful first kit, Kevin Keegan)
Greece: AEK Athens (for no particular reason)
Italy: Torino! (they used to be the biggest team in Italy before their 1st team crashed into a hill when returning from a friendly match with Benfica :( )
Japan: i don't care for Baseball
Netherlands: Ajax! (absolutely gigantic club, not a made up thing like Chelsea or Monaco; Cruyff)
Northern Ireland: no clue.
Norway:I don't care for skying
Poland: no idea.
Portugal: Sport Lisboa e Benfica! The greatest club in the World, we are so massive we cannot even live by our own gigantic standards.
Republic of Ireland: Robbie keane FC? no clue really...
Russia: Spartak Moscow! (again, a proper club)
Scotland: Celtic (YNWA)
South Korea: i don't care for Tae Kwan Do
Spain: Valência (Pablo Aimar)
Sweden: Right. I don't know.
Turkey: Whatever.
United States: There's a league in America?
Wales: Swansea counts?

In honour of this forum helping me get CM 01/02 running on my new PC? You can choose my new game!
What league? What team? Real or generated players? You decide! It's just a dry run for a couple of seasons so I can check it is actually working and it isn't going to turn around after a few seasons and hit me in the face with a chair.
One rule, it can't be Liverpool, ever. EVER!
Go with Liverpool. Liverpool fucking rules!
oh and play with regens. We'll all pick favorites!
Taribowestsleftfoot
22-03-15, 12:16 PM
I tell you what, I'll play a one off season as Liverpool. I'll use regens but seeing as it's a single season, I'll use the team I'm dealt. I have played as Liverpool once before many moons ago, I got them the CL too after getting Shevchenko on a free literally the 1st or 2nd season after starting, I've NEVER seen him free that early OR willing to leave ever since.

Right, game set up, formation redone. Board want European qualification. I'll be playing either Red Star or Rangers in the next CL qualifier. Oddly enough, this regen team has only given me 1 keeper? I'll pick up some dead 38 year old on a free for cover. Here's the team and formation I'll be playing:

Picked up the tinpot Charity shield against the Manc, got past Rangers (on away goals) to qualify for the CL proper and won my first PL game. A good start I guess, it's a pity I got drawn against fucking Roma! Roma is doom. On the performances? early doors? Good attack, good keeper, average defence. I foresee a top 4 finish at best, no cup wins.

I would have voted you play in J League - bonkers!

John Thomas sounds a bit of a prick
Gilberto Carlos Muller sounds like his grandfather may have been on the wrong side of a war...
Taribowestsleftfoot

The Muller bloke is ace but then again, he's a DMC and you rarely get a bad one in CM 01/02
If I were you I'd be keeping a close on that Ron Berry fella.
oh dear, there a guy in central defence called Nimatzhan... might as well be No'mans'land...

Ha! I forgot about responding to this :embarassed: I finished the season fourth and won the charidee shield, that's it. Got battered out of the CL group stages by Roma (of course, I fucking HATE Roma) got battered by Munich in the super euro cup or whatever its called and lost to Wimbledon in the FA cup, of course I did. I was gload to get shot of the save, that is the last time I'll ever pick Licerpoo
that roma side was the bane of CL life.

that roma side was the bane of CL life.
This is the truth of all that is true! Fucking Roma man, rages my face clean off. Every 10 minutes 'according to the world press *insert any Roma player here, but mostly stupid Totti and his stupid hair is one of the most valuable players in the world* here

Well, I guess it's time to start again, my new PC is running (so far) so I think I'll start again and try and get CM running. I'll let you know how I get on, it worked before so it should work now? right? Yeah, right :flypig: It's also time for the new update? right?

And we are away! Installed, patched and updated to the newest patch! No faffing today, straight in with the Mighty Sky Blues of doom. Slight bad news, when transferring my stuff from my old computer I didn't save my tactics!!!! I've used the same tactics (and the same save file I created for them) for 10 years at least! Alas poor forcechoke tactic, we knew him well. There's no way in a million years I'll remember all the settings :hurt: so arise new 'forcechoke v.2' It'll still be 4-2-3-1 but I'll have to start from scratch with every other setting.

Recently tradegy has struck as my hard drive in my laptop fried and I've lost all of cm files and saves 😭
Im thinking about who to start a new game with and the northern Irish team cliftonville seemed a logical choice since my last name is Clifton!
Anyways, what makes you guys choose the teams you do? Is it Cos you're a fan? Like the colours? Fond of the town?
Redknapp69
23-10-17, 12:05 AM
I choose the team(s) I support/follow
Otherwise, it's teams that are part of a challenge from the challenges part of the site
I look at facilities and chairman. The club has to have some potential. A 2000 seater stadium + broke chairman with neither money, patience nor ambition = no go.
Oh, and colors play a part too. All those teams with blue and red, it looks awful when I score and let's be realistic, I will score a lot. So no Crystal Palace, sorry.
It depends on what you're looking for in the game.
I made the majority of the games with teams I like/liked: Benfica and Man Utd were the teams where I started more games and Barreirense (most seasons played).
Then I might want something else... for instance, I made games with Rome because the italian league didn't have any restriction when you use the game without the tapani patch (with it, there are more leagues like that) or my last save with Benfica, as I wanted to have a B-Team... I also made a game with Rome just to play with Totti and give him a club where he could shine...
You also can select the league when you think about playing with regens: it's no use to go to Portugal (in the original data) when there aren't many worlds class players... on the other hand, Italy, France, Brazil and other countries have tons of great to world class players.
My brother does lots of games changing clubs and he likes to start on the 2º division B in Portugal... he choses Imortal as it is one club with some interesting players and some money to make things happen :P
