Better Goal Difference But Lower Finish

I have just completed my first season as Real Madrid manager and finished La Liga with 90 points with 90 goals scored and 26 conceded. Barcelona finished with 90 points with 84 goals scored and 26 conceded but they have finished top and us second. Has anybody else ever had this situation before and is there a patch to fix it ?
I am running on 3.9.68 with the latest data and Tapani updates.

it happened to me, it was defined by the home/away results against the team that finished above me.

It's nothing to fix here. That's how La Liga operates. It's not about Goal Difference. It's about head to head matches between both teams at top which decide the winner at end of season.

Thus Rxx is right :p.

I know it works like that in the champions league group stages but didn't think it did in the domestic league.
Perhaps it's a Spanish La Liga thing as I haven't had it before in the English premier league or the German Bundesliga.

Head-to-head in Spain, it's a playoff in Italy as well (don't know if that's the case IRL now, doubt it is though).
