Dream Team League - Season 13 - February

European football resumes this month as we look to see who'll claim glory in the Champions League and Europa League. We'll also find out the fortunes of those involved in the FA Cup 5th Round as well as who will get to Wembley after the conclusion of the League Cup Semi Final. Elsewhere, can anybody catch up to Redknapp69 in the Premier League? Likewise with GFRay in League One? Will both GFRay and ebfatz progress to the next round of the EFL Trophy?

    Awards
EPL Manager of the Month - AJ (Tottenham).
EPL Player of the Month - Neymar (Aston Villa).
EPL Young Player of the Month - Kasper Dolberg (West Ham).
L1 Player of the Month - Mu Kanazaki (Charlton).

A first award this season for AJ and indeed Tottenham in general this month as AJ picks up the Manager of the Month award following a 100% record in February, defeating drkshadow1, Mark, Redknapp69 and the AI managed Stoke. It's a run that sees Spurs climb from 8th to 5th though with 10 games to go, Spurs are 19 points behind the league leaders!

The Player of the Month is Neymar, the first Aston Villa player to pick up the award this season. Erkifino's frustrations in the league continued with a draw against Newcastle but victories soon followed against Hull and Southampton. Neymar put in a man of the match performance against Newcastle, scoring the opening goal and he was at it again with a brace against Hull though despite a 10/10 rating, he didn't pick up the award this time. The win against Southampton also yielded another goal and an assist which takes Neymar to 16 league goals and 3 assists so far this year.

There were some who thought it cruel that Amine Gouiri was dropped from the squad by evesham after earning the Young Player of the Month award last month but Kasper Dolberg has ensured that the award remains at West Ham after playing three games, scoring four times, creating a goal and picking up a man of the match award!

Down in League One, both ebfatz and GFRay have failed to pick up the Manger of the Month award for a fourth time. It's also a 5th time that none of their players have won the Young Player of the Month award but ebfatz will be pleased at least to see Charlton represented for a 4th time in the Player of the Month awards and a second time by Mu Kanazaki personally. The Japanese forward has certainly played his part this month, scoring a three goals in three games, chalking up an assist and earning himself the man of the match award twice.

    Draws
    FA Cup - Quarter Final
    Hull v Everton.
    Portsmouth v Chelsea.
    Aston Villa v Swansea.

Redknapp69 and Erkifino will be up against each other after the draw for the Quarter Final. No doubt Erkifino will be hoping to win this one with his chances of winning the league title looking slim. Meanwhile, trunky and rakanj have an excellent chance to progress after being drawn against CPU sides.

    League Cup - Final
    Portsmouth v Newcastle.

I'm sure we'll all be rooting for trunky to land the League Cup for the first time at Portsmouth after being drawn against the unmanaged Newcastle. This is a competition that trunky has won once before, 11 long seasons ago with Hull and he'll be looking to add to his FA Cup victory last season.

    EFL Trophy - Northern/Southern Final
    Doncaster v Blackburn.
    Millwall v Charlton.

One more game to play for ebfatz and GFRay to face each other at Wembley for the Football League Trophy!

2 good league wins followed by a disappointing loss to Wimbledon.

Still...A League Cup final place is great news, as is an F.A. Cup quarter final spot. Happy to be still in the cups and hanging onto 3rd!

Injuries stacking up by the looks of it...

Cheers Markus, great write up again! Pity about Iniesta's 4 goals and 3 assists not being deemed good enough for player of the month though Especially as Neymar got a red card!

disappointed to pick up just one point from 2 games against AI managed clubs in the drop zone.

Taught a lesson by Swans and Villa (as expected)

15 points for red in his final 10 games? That's counting on Everton, Portsmouth and Villa not dropping any more points.bif they do hell need less. Is there still room for drama.?

Ebz and Ray making light work of their league.

    Ooh. Millwall!
Big game that to make the Final. Only just scrapped through on penalties in the round before mind you.

Pulled back two points on Ray early in the month only to lose them again later.

Great work as always Mark although you have Lukas Holer listed as Young Player of the Month although it's clear Kanazaki won the main L1 award.

Cracking write up Mark - we are love thee DTLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Good month for Swans - just the 1 loss v AJ

Not the cup draw Erk or I probably wanted

WIN 4-0 v Pyro's Plymouth - Thumping win and deserved

WIN 1-0 v Rakanj's Everton - well deserved and should have been a bigger margin. Them down to 10 men in last quarter made it easier for us

LOST 3-1 v Spurs - AJ the better team on the day - no complaints!

DRAW 0-0 v Man City in CL - They didn't have ANY shots so we really should have won this but a tough game (look at how many goals they have conceeded in league)

WIN 3-0 v Ebfatz's Charlton in FA Cup - deserved win where the gulf in class was obvious

WIN 1-0 v Man City in CL - They didn't have ANY shots AGAIN. This time we deservedly got he 3 points though!

WIN 2-0 v Norwich - Ebfatz's old team gets their tummy tickled as they roll over

    Helluva month coming up

Man City in league who in 2 games last month proved a VERY tough team to beat

Then we have Mark, Peaceboy as well in League, Erk in Cup and 2 key CL games to try and qualify

    It's not letting up!

    Uppa Swans!

Alright finally got the save game to work. Thought we were on Saturn v5 and the save game wouldn't load, but it turned out we were on v4!

    Anyway, let's review february:

Blackburn 0-2 Doncaster: Not a contest.

Morecambe 0-2 Doncaster: Good and deserved win in the EFL Trophy quarters.

Southend 1-1 Doncaster: Proper champmanned meaning our second loss of points this season.

Doncaster 0-1 Chelsea: The replay in the FA Cup 4th round. Wow were MUCH better, but only shot 2 of 11 on target. Chelsea managed a goal in extra time and that is us eliminated. Tough luck.

Doncaster 3-0 Rochdale: Get outta here!

Doncaster 4-0 Rotherham: Semi's of the EFL Trophy. Even with a red card for us in the 5th minute we still dominated them. Enough said.

Rotherham 0-4 Doncaster: And again a beating for Rotherham in the league this time.

Doncaster 3-1 MK Dons: It was actually much closer than the scoreline suggest. Still a deserved win.

All in all another good month, but gutted to be out of the FA Cup as we deserved to go through! Coming month the EFL Trophy North Final against Blackburn and if we win it, we're off to the grand final to probably face Ebz. We also play Ebz away in the league, but I don't think a loss there will jeopardize our title chances.

    Awards
EPL Manager of the Month - Erkifino (Aston Villa).
EPL Player of the Month - Ivan Rakitic (Tottenham).
EPL Young Player of the Month - Frankie de Jong (Tottenham).
L1 Manager of the Month - GFRay (Doncaster).

AJ follows up last month's Manager of the Month award by seeing Ivan Rakitic and Frenkie de Jong land the Player and Young Player of the Month awards this month for Tottenham. Although Spurs lost their opening game of March, de Jong played every minute and scored his first goal of the season in the win over Chelsea whilst Ivan Rakitic set up both goals in the win over Middlesbrough as well as managing an assist in the Chelsea game. Meanwhile, the Manager of the Month award itself goes to Erkifino for the second time this season despite only winning two of his four games in the league. Aston Villa started off with defeat to evesham's West Ham but drew against trunky's Portsmouth which came in between wins over pyromyst's Plymouth and rakanj's Everton. The latter could be crucial as Aston Villa now lie just 3 points behind Everton in 2nd.

Surprisingly, in League One, neither GFRay nor ebfatz saw any of their players pick up an award despite Doncaster actually confirmed promotion this month to the Championship. That feat though has earned GFRay his 3rd Manager of the Month title after a 100% win rate in March which included a 4:1 win over ebfatz's Charlton.

    Draws
    FA Cup - Semi Final
    Portsmouth v Swansea

trunky and Redknapp69 are the only ones left standing in the FA Cup and typically, they have been drawn against each other in the Semi Final which means an unmanaged side will face the winner at Wembley, as Norwich have been drawn against Hull.

    EFL Trophy - Final
    Doncaster v Charlton

As expected, both GFRay and ebfatz managed to win their respective section titles in the EFL Trophy to arrange a trip to Wembley for their supporters. Having met already in the League Cup, the two managers have now faced each other three times with GFRay coming out on top in all three games.

    Champions League - Quarter Final
    Swansea v Sevilla
    Real Madrid v Derby
    Aston Villa v Napoli

Erkifino, peaceboy and Redknapp69 all managed to get through Phase 2 and even better, avoided each other in the Quarter Final draw. It won't be easy though as Sevilla (11), Real Madrid (3) and Napoli (17) have some very big names and a number of ex-DTL players.

    Europa League - Semi Final
    West Ham v Everton

Once more, there'll be a DTL manager versus an unmanaged side after rakanj and evesham were drawn against each other whilst Benfica will play RB Leipzig. This will be one that evesham will be looking to win having won the competition soon after being appointed West Ham boss at the end of last season.

Great stuff as ever Marko! Glad that this is back again after a 2 week absence.

    Let's review March.

Doncaster 2-1 Bradford: The scoreline suggest it was close. It wasn't.

Doncaster 3-0 Blackburn: EFL Trophy North final. Blackburn never stood a chance here.

Doncaster 3-0 Peterborough: Get outta here!

Scunthorpe 1-2 Doncaster: This one also seems much closer than it actually was.

Charlton 1-4 Doncaster: The BIG game against Ebz and what a convincing win. In the first two games we were less and stole the win, but this game we dominated from start to finish. Title is a matter of time now.

Doncaster 3-1 Bury: Good win, nothing to add.

Wigan 0-1 Doncaster: This game was actually close, but we edged them out deservedly in the end.

A very good month and two points away from the League One title which we will clinch next month. Great to be in the EFL Trophy Final against Ebz and I'm sure he'll want his revenge for the thrashing I gave him in the league this month.

Manager of the month? Nonsense. Neymar probably should got player of the month though.

Should have reviewed my tactic going into the FA Cup but even with the two week break I couldn't find time to. Down to CL now with a view to finishing in the top 4.

Looks like we threw a few games in the CL.

A fantastic month for me unbeaten in the league and progressing into the Europa League Semi-Finals.

EL Last 16 vs Portsmouth (Trunky) 3-3 (Won 3-2 on Pens)
    - In the 2nd leg lucky not to lose by more and got very lucky on the penalties, I think Trunky will feel hard done by.

Villa 2-1 - However did we win that against Erk's Villa, totally outplayed but got the 3 points somehow

EL QF vs Southampton (Dermo) 3-2 Agg - Should have won by more, poor finishing nearly cost us Extra Time.

1-0 vs Wimbledon (drkshadow) - Dominated the game and poor finishing nearly costly again

1-1 vs Southampton (Dermo) - 3rd game v Saints in 1 month, sick of seeing them 9/4 4/1 on shots and they score with their only shot what a waste of 2 points

Good month overall but didn’t start great

    • LOSE 1-0 to Man City in League – tough chuffing team this lot. We were the better team but they were more clinical as we missed our chances. Loss was a harsh result though
    • WIN 7-0 v Kiev in CL. We took it out on our next opponents
    • WIN 2-1 to Erk (in his back yard) in FA Cup. We were by far the better team where we really raised our game. Probably our best performance v Erk’s all stars in many a season!
    • WIN 5-1 v Real Madrid in CL to essentially decide who tops the group. They didn’t stand a hope and prob got scared by the Welsh weather
    • WIN 3-0 v Mark’s Arsenal. Deffo the better team away from home. Maybe a 2 goal win would have been a fair result though.

    5 league games
    2 CL semi final games
    1 FA Cup SF game

All coming up in a crazy month

No huge injury worries but my 2nd and 3rd choice GK’s have gone AWOL

Great having this back again Mark – Love the DTL

    Awards
EPL Player of the Month - Morgan Schneiderlin (Derby).
L1 Player of the Month - Darlington Nagbe (Doncaster).

Redknapp69 and GFRay may well have confirmed their title wins this month but the Manager of the Month awards for their respective leagues go elsewhere, as do the Young Player of the Month awards! Instead, we see Morgan Schneiderlin recognised for peaceboy's Derby County despite picking up just one win in five league games with Schneiderlin not even featuring in that victory! He started only twice, with another appearance from the bench in those games, putting in two man of the match performances against Man Utd and Aston Villa in which he was booked.

As for Darlington Nagbe, the American striker started four league games for GFRay's title winning side which Doncaster won, scoring five goals, assisting four and earning two man of the match awards!

    Draws
    FA Cup - Final
    Hull v Portsmouth

trunky got the better of Redknapp69 in the FA Cup Semi Final this month which sets up a reunion with Hull at Wembley for the Final! The FA Cup was the first trophy that trunky won after leaving Hull and he'll be aiming to make it three for Portsmouth having also won it last season!

    Champions League - Semi Final
    Real Madrid v Swansea.

Erkifino and peaceboy were surprisingly eliminated at the quarter final stage which leaves only Redknapp69 in the competition from the Premier League! Interestingly, Redknapp69 has never won the Champions League for Swansea so this may well be his best chance of doing so!

    Europa League - Semi Final
    Everton v Benfica.

evesham has lost out in his defence of the Europa League title after rakanj's Everton defeated West Ham in the semi final and will now face Benfica who have a solid squad, 13 of which are ex-DTL players including Clinton N'Jie, Vitinho, Bruno Fernandes and William Carvalho.

Thank you so much Gaffer! Great effort once again.

Spurs are making a hash of it, once more. We can beat anyone, we score at will, but drop points like there's no tomorrow. Gotta find some of that consistency thing.

With Neymar, Aubameyang, Jesus and Werner... Why wouldn't you pick Kalinic to play in the CL... I guess I don't deserve much as I haven't been giving this the time it deserves.

    Nice update Mark

    Very happy with that update!

A tough League Cup win, the manager's second favourite of all the cup competitions, a very hard fought semi final victory against Redders in the Manager's favourite of all the Cup competitions, decent wins v Norwich and Everton in the league let down by too many draws in games we should have won.

    Still...another trophy!

Great write up Markus, always my favourite part of the week!
