    That was totally unexpected!

Unfortunately Bannis is injured so we will continue with the 4-1-4-1 formation. Focus on the league again!

Yes, that's Ruud Vormer. And their formation is more like 3-4-3 most likely.

    A narrow win over VVV

Last night we won our final away match of the calendar year. It wasn't easy without almost our complete forward line (Bannis, Chong and Summerville) but we won the game!

We played well and our defence was solid as ever which was important because VVV did not park the bus. They tried to attack, but they lack the individual class and we had the best scoring chances; and just before half-time Wijnaldum passed along the floor for Zirkzee who fed the ball to Wouter Burger in the area and Burger scored and set off on a lap of honour!

We got a few more scoring opportunities, also in the second half, but even after we brought on Sinisterra and El Bouchataoui there were no more goals and just before the final whistle Idrissi had to go off injured to add to our injury worries.

Nevertheless, the thing that matters is that we won this crucial away game!

    Summary
A solid team performance with Wouter Burger, who replaced Naoufal Bannis again, as Man of the Match.
    Spoiler!

It's always good to win an away game and the final three games of the calendar year will all be home games for us! However, Ajax also won their game, while PSV's game was cancelled.

Unfortunately Idrissi will not be available for the next two weeks and Terence Kongolo will be suspended for our next game.

I would put money on at least one of (probably more) Verdonk, Wijdaldum, Wehrman and St. Juste picking up a booking

Narrow win is good enough, we need someone else to get at least a point off Ajax though!

    No.
Beat them in the return, win the game in hand, top on goal difference.
    Still in our own hands
    Simple !

Yes, we are having too many injured and suspended players. The long winter break is important, but we need to win the next three home games first!

    Injury worries

There are three home games remaining before the long winter break and tonight we shall have to play FC Emmen without the suspended Terence Kongolo and no less than five injured first team players, including Naoufal Bannis and both of our wingers as well as Oussama Idrissi!

This means that we will have to field a makeshift forward line with Hansson and Sinisterra as wingers and with Zirkzee as lone striker. At least Chong will start out on the bench as he could still play in the second half if we really needed him, but he definitely can't play a full match yet.

Player form is a slight concern as well. Wijnaldum seems ready for the long January break and Jordy Wehrmann is currently also not at the top of his form.

We should still be able to defeat FC Emmen tonight, although at this stage and with so many injured players we will be weary of underestimating any side. But fortunately it's a home game for us.
