It's hard for Janmaat (35) and Wijnaldum (34) and possibly also for De Vrij (32) to play full games, especially twice a week!

We win our final group game

In a way our final group game may not have mattered anymore, but we still played in front of a crowd of 51,801 who saw us defeat Galatasaray with the goals scored by... Wijnaldum and Wouter Burger!

Burger has not impressed us much yet this season, but when he played alongside Wijnaldum last night he certainly delivered! In fact, our midfield totally controlled the match, unlike when we played Galatasaray in Istanbul and we needed the red cards to win the game.

Because of Bannis' injury we played with young Jordan Zirkzee as lone striker, but in the first half all he did was pick up a yellow card, as did Janmaat. Nevertheless we were the attacking team although Bijlow also had to deny a fierce shot by Zebli from inside the area.

The second half had barely started when Wouter Burger attempted a long shot. González deflected the ball clear and Wijnaldum was first to the rebound and hit it low into the bottom corner! Two minutes later Janmaat found Burger with a weighted pass into the area and Burger smashed the ball into the top corner before doing his airplane impression!

Jordan Zirkzee also played a little better now and he produced a hopeful looking shot, but it went over the bar. But we had won our final group game!

    Summary
Wehrmann, Burger and Wijnaldum were our best players. Perhaps it was no coincidence that Burger played his best game of the season alongside Wijnaldum. Be that as it may, it was also rather obvious that Janmaat and Wijnaldum find it hard to play the full ninety minutes. And, of course, it remains to be seen how fit they are when we play our next match against FC Den Bosch!
    Spoiler!

Now obviously Paris St. Germain won their final group game as well. In fact, they crushed a mediocre Celtic-side (4-0) at the Parc des Princes last night to win our group.

And after we had all had our showers and were enjoying a cool bear the Champions League 2nd Phase draw was announced...

Good to get the win, but nothing was at stake
    Another tough group there.
Chelsea probably favourites and anything you get from them will be a bonus.
Need to win the home games against the other 2 and hope to get a point or 2 on the road.

    European football and transfer rumours

Last night's edition of Veronica Inside was mostly about the European campaigns of Dutch sides and then there was some interesting transfer news as well.

Wilfred Genee: So PSV survived their Champions League group after all! Who would have thought when they had to play Leverkusen away in their final group game and were 1-0 down for the longest time! They are actually undefeated, too. Five draws and one win!

Johan Derksen: PSV have done remarkably well. It wasn't an easy group, but they have made it by the skin of their teeth. And considering the fact that they don't have a proper striker this is quite an achievement!

Besides, if you look at PSV's recent history nobody can say that PSV are imploding - yet.

Wilfred Genee: Unfortunately we can't say the same about Ajax, can we?

René van der Gijp: Well, they lost again, last night, but to be honest I think they did well enough. I mean, let's face it, they held their own against FC Bayern again last night.

So Ajax played FC Bayern and Inter twice and each time they only lost by the narrowest of margins. They were never humiliated like Anderlecht were.

Johan Derksen: Yes, but look at their history. A few years ago Ajax reached the Champions League Semi Final. Two yeas ago they reached the Quarter Final. And now they have to play Europe League football!

Plus we know that Noa Lang is leaving in January. That is a huge setback for them especially after Ziyech has already left, too.

Wilfred Genee: Well, at least we all agree that Feyenoord are doing remarkably well again, this year!

Johan Derksen: But Feyenoord had a very easy group. And the red cards helped. Feyenoord don't have the same history that Ajax and PSV have. They have mostly played Europa League football. Last year was the exception, but without Joshua Zirkzee and with Vente ineligible for European football I can't see them repeat that feat this season.

Jan Boskamp: You just wait and see! We have Bannis and we have young Jordan Zirkzee. We will show Europe a thing or two yet!

And you know what? Rick Karsdorp may return to the Kuip in January!

    Spoiler!

Johan Derksen: Karsdorp would help, if they can afford his wages and if he is even interested in returning, but like Vente he won't be eligible for European games.

Still, it would be good for Feyenoord as Janmaat is getting on in years and Geertruida is not good enough to replace him. Not as fullback.

Wilfred Genee: So what about Ajax and PSV. Are they planning to sign any new players in January?

Johan Derksen: Ajax are talking with Guus Til, who has played for Rangers, Leicester and Chelsea since he left AZ. As attacking midfielder he should replace Noa Lang.

PSV are looking at Mark Uth (former Schalke 04 striker who has played for Liverpool these past two years. A decent striker, perhaps, but he is already 33 years old. So both Ajax and PSV shall have to do better than that!

  14. How much will Karsdrop cost? Even if he can't play in Europe this year it adds more depth and he can next...

I don't think it matters how much he costs. If you can afford him, got to take it as Janmaat can't go on much longer

Absolutely. Janmaat can only play one game a week as fullback. Geertruida will have to replace him again in our League match against Den Bosch.

Are you starting to run out of prodigal sons to bring back ? A lot of them must have retired by now
Is there any end goal to achieve or do you just go on until you get bored ?

Key players on our shortlist: Rick Karsdorp (29) and Noa Lang (25) and Joshua Zirkzee (23) if we can get him interested in returning.

There's also Orkun Kokcü (23) as attacking midfielder now that El Bouchataoui is out for 8 months.

Two defenders are developing well at other clubs: Noah Lewis (24) and Jeremiah St.Juste (28) and finally Nathan Aké (29) is also on our shortlist.

Enough to make sure we have enough squad-depth.

We need to continue making progress, though. And so far we have.

Karsdop - YES - great signing if he comes back

Ajax and PSV really not bothered about re-investing it seems!

You never know. In January they may sign players.
