Nice one RVP and GK was great when needed

Experience and his quality decided a big game

HUGE 3 points that - you seem to have the "indian sign" over PSV when[playoing them

Some inexpereinced guys on wings for next game as injuries/suspensions play a part

For some reason when we play PSV the best usually comes out of us.

Home games played against PSV: 77
We won 39 and lost only 14
    Goal balance: 137 - 90

Huge result and one that you needed. Away games and the injury/suspensions are going to cost you some points in the next few games.

RvP may not play much now, but what a valuable player he is.

Excellent win! It can't get any sweeter than that

    RvP still got it!

Hope you can cope in the next one without all those players.

Ten-man Feyenoord held to goalless draw

Not only did we have to play Excelsior without our entire forward line so to speak, but within twenty minutes Malacia was sent off and so it was hardly a surprise that the match ended in a boring 0-0 draw.

The red card was presented to our left defender after he "appeared to headbutt Mattheij" (to quote the sport commentator) and so Haps moved to his favourite left defender position and we had to continue without a left winger, which left us pretty toothless.

We had to try at least something in the second half so we brought on El Hankouri and eventually also Van Persie, but it was all to no avail. And to make matters worse, in the final match-minute Van Beek had to go off injured as well.

In other words, a match to quickly forget...
    Spoiler!

And of course PSV beat FC Utrecht (2-1) and Ajax defeated VVV Venlo (3-1) who missed a penalty in the first half.

    Spoiler!

    Starting lineup against FC Groningen

Fortunately Botteghin, Karsdorp, Ayoub and also Sam Larsson (!) will all be available again when we play FC Groningen next.

However, we still have some defensive problems as Van Beek will be out for a week or so with a bruised shin and Malacia is suspended for one match - and possibly more!

Our Reserves managed to defeat the Groningen Reserves (3-2) with Wouter Burger finding the net again. Burger is playing very well these days and he could very well be on the verge of breaking through into the first team.

    Spoiler!

FC Groningen are currently in thirteenth position so they could do with a point (or three points!) and they will actually play an attractive, attacking 4-4-1-1 formation against us.

As for us, the good news is that at least Sam Larsson is back from his suspension so he will be our left winger again. Larsson had an exceptionally good start to the season before his five-match ban and it's great having him back!

Steven Berghuis is still unavailable, though. Tahith Chong will start as right winger and Vente will be our striker against FC Groningen.

And finally, because Malacia is suspended for this match and Haps is in need of rest we will have Calvin Verdonk start as left defender.

Behind every silver lining there's a cloud.

The morale boost from the PSV win didn't last long and to cap a bad day, more injuries and suspensions. I guess that Malacia will get a few weeks added to that 1 game ban, so we might not see him again before the new year

That's only too likely. But if that happens there is a silver lining behind that cloud, though. Ridgeciano Haps (one of our better players) was injured for many, many months last season and he's played with the reserves this season and is now just about ready for the first team. He needs game time though. And he might get that now!

Damn - a fine performance from your 10 men and you deserved more

Yeah - Malacia out for quite a few matches now - was he warned/find?

Fancy a confortable win next game

Were you not tempted to play Haps instead of Chong (even though "wrong side")

Haps (26) joined Feyenoord from AZ in 2017 and Feyenoord paid €6M for him. Last year he was injured and Tyrell Malacia or Calvin Verdonk replaced him. This season he should be our first choice as left defender and we're hoping that with the training schedule he is on Haps will also become a good choice for the left winger position.

Well, I've got a feeling that it's going to be one of those seasons. Seems to be some inconsistency in drawing games you'd hope to win.

Warned, of course. But no, not fined. First offence

He has food for thought at least (when playing with the reserves).

Larsson brace gives Feyenoord win over Groningen

It didn't look good at half-time at the Euroborg, but in the second half an eager Sam Larsson scored a brace to lead us to a 2-1 victory over a stubborn FC Groningen side!

Without Larsson, Berghuis and Jřrgensen we had scored just one goal in these last three matches and although Larsson is now back from his ban things looked rather bleak for us when Freriks scored a very early goal and we realised that we needed to score not once but twice now!

When we failed to find the net in the first half we brought on Van Persie for Vente and Ayoub for El Bouchataoui, who seems to be struggling with a dip in form at the moment, and five minutes into the second half Ayoub hit a 25-yard ball ahead of Vilhena who passed left ahead of Sam Larsson. Larsson did well to take the ball into the penalty area and he hit a ferocious left-footed strike and scored his fifth goal of the season! Van Crooij was rooted to the spot.

FC Groningen made a substitution and brought on Ndefe for Schet but ten minutes later Jordy Wehrmann sent the ball into the area in front of Chong who was unmarked. Chong tried a volley, but Van Crooij saved. However, he could not hold onto the ball and Larsson was on hand to tap in from six yards!

We then brought on Haps for Verdonk and we remained in control of the contest. Chong could actually have scored once or even twice with the assist from Jordy Wehrmann whose passes were almost all accurate today, but there were no more goals and so we won the match by a narrow margin.

A well-deserved win. Wehrmann was superb again, but what a day for Sam Larsson to score a brace upon the return from his ban!
    Spoiler!

There was only one other Eredivisie game last night. Ajax demolished FC Utrecht with Kasper Dolberg scoring his first hat-trick of the season.

    Spoiler!

PSV have three games in hand, Ajax two. Even so we have to play a midweek game against De Graafschap while our rivals will each be playing their final Champions League group match.

    Starting lineup against De Graafschap

De Graafschap have a decent then and they will play a very defensive 4-5-1 formation against us with very few attacking-minded midfielders.

As for us, we made only one change to our formation. Clasie will play alongside Vilhena as El Bouchataoui is struggling with a dip in form and can probably do with some rest.

Haps definitely needs rest and so Verdonk will start as left defender again. It's good we shall have a 16-day break after we've played De Graafschap!!

    Excellent comeback!

Why do PSV have so many games in hand already?!

Why does Haps need a rest after 30 mins or so playing?!

Good comeback and deserved win - Larson picks up where he left off

Is that a relative of Gini Wijn on the opposition bench?

Both Ajax and PSV have been playing their six CL Group games. It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes.

Haps was injured for almost a whole season and has only played a few games with the reserves. After the long international break he should be ready.

A narrow victory at De Vijverberg

We don't win our games easily, but at least we're winning again! And this time it was our captain who scored the deciding goal.

Our confidence is getting stronger and it was Sam Larsson again who almost scored a very early opener, but Larsson was denied by a really good stop from Rondeel, who proved to be at the top of his form last night.

Barely two minutes later De Graafschap almost scored. Hooi brought the ball into the box and he drove in low to Bijlow's right, but Bijlow parried the ball with his foot.

After that it was all one-way traffic and it's nothing less than a minor miracle that we only scored once. And because it took so long before we finally did find the net, the game remained tense. So when Botteghin was shown a yellow card we brought on Nieuwkoop to replace him and five minutes into the second half we brought on Janmaat for Karsdorp for the very same reason.

With thirty minutes remaining there were still no goals so we decided to make the final substitution. Now to provide the much-needed creativity we brought on El Bouchataoui for Jordy Clasie. And that substitution proved inspired! Ten minutes after he came on El Bouchataoui showed his creativity by laying on a superb through pass for Chong who hit a fierce shot that led to the only goal of the match! Rondeel parried the ball with a flailing arm, but it fell to El Bouchataoui who flicked it on first-time to Vente and Vente unselfishly squared the ball into the path of Vilhena who scored with a fine strike!

And so we won the match, although both Chong and Vente had a more than decent opportunity to double our lead but they were both denied by Rondeel, who was named Man of the Match.
    Spoiler!

And so we are the Eredivisie leaders again. But PSV have no less than four games in hand now and Ajax and Vitesse have three each! We can really do with a nice long break now.

    Spoiler!

Now while we played our last league game before the international break PSV won their final group game against Ronaldo's Juventus. Not that the match mattered much anymore, but still!

Ajax also played their final group game and they lost at home to Tottenham Hotspur with Christian Eriksen scoring a brace against his former club!

And finally, we were informed by the KNVB that Malacia will be banned for a further ten Dutch matches! It will give Haps an abundance of much-needed game time but it seems a little harsh for Malacia.

Phew - a win - and just about - you were nearly massively superkeepered

Well deserved that and you "have the points on the board"

Harsh ban for Malacia - isn't that like a 1/3 of the season he's now abnned for?

Warm weather training camp coming up?

Those bans are indeed for 11 of the 34 league matches. A bit over the top!

A win is a win. I don't think that you will ever beat Ajax or PSV on goal difference, so points are more important than goals.

That is a harsh ban, but maybe he won't do it again.

Let's hope so, Vente had a similar ban last season.

    Good win.

It's a shame these lengthy bans weren't corrected in the patches. Think there's a similar thing in France too.

A five-week ban would be more than enough!
