    Great win.

Are you tempted to bring van Beek back on the cheap?

IIRC van Beek was sold because he was injury prone. (Or was that someone else)

It is him but usually you can get players back on the cheap so thought it may be an idea given the limitations of who samsami can buy.

Because he is a DC(R) and Karsberg has left the club we could use him as a backup player for Janmaat.

How the table looks now that PSV have dropped points

Last night PSV played their game in hand at the Abe Lenstra Stadium and because Van Zundert completed his fantastic hat-trick in the final match minutes our rivals dropped two points to SC Heerenveen!

Ajax will be playing NAC Breda and PSV will play Excelsior when we play our European return match against Braga in Portugal.

    On the 'dressing room problems'

As mentioned before, while we are having a fantastic season there have been some 'dressing room problems' which have been grossly exaggerated by the media.

The truth is that since Justin Bijlow and Dylan Vente have both signed new contracts most players are now more than happy at the club.

The only players who are still having some concerns are Vilhena, Berghuis, Jrgensen and El Bouchataoui.

So three of them are midfielders and in a way that's understandable. Our regular midfielders (Larsson, Vilhena, Vormer, Fer and Berghuis) are all very experienced players who could continue to play for the club for many years to come.

On the other hand we have several extremely talented young players who are desperate for game time, especially Wouter Burger (19), Orkun Kk (19), Crysencio Summerville (19) and Achraf el Bouchataoui (20).

So arguably, we already have a new generation of midfielders ready to take over from the older generation, who are hardly ready to step down!

Talking about young and talented players, Malacia is regarded as a potential world-class talent by pundits who added that he must surely be attracting the attention of bigger European clubs. This shows the danger of having young players become successful. Too often they leave the Eredivisie at a very young age to move to one of the a big European clubs.

Still not a fan of Berghuis and Larsson, but we hardly have decent back-up. How's Chong looking this season?

PSV losing points is gooood news !

So you have only one specialist for the left midfielder post ? Didn't realise that.

Can Malacia or Verdonk who was excellent when given his chance also play LM ?

IRL Malacia could. Not ideal, but he should be able to in-game as well.

Chong still does not get game time at Man Utd so we may try to loan him again. It would be great if he returned to the club as backup for Sam Larsson and to replace him eventually.

After all, our goal is to rejuvenate the team by bringing in young players from our own youth academy or having former Feyenoord players return to the club. Chong would qualify on both counts!

    Feyenoord advance in Europe

It wasn't an easy game as we were all too aware that a goal for Braga would quickly change everything, but we held our opponents to a 0-0 draw at the Estaddio AXA and we are through to the Round of 32 with a 3-1 aggregate win over Sporting Clube de Braga!

We play our European games with as many experienced players as possible. so with Ruud Vormer, rather than Jordy Wehrmann, as central defensive midfielder but young Crysencio Summerville for the injured Steven Berghuis.

And with Tonny Vilhena and Leroy Fer as central midfielders we managed to withhold the pressure when Summerville suddenly picked up a knock and he had to go off!

We brought on Wouter Burger to replace Summerville and Fer moved to the right midfielder position, so we continued with a more attack-minded midfielder and defensively we were more vulnerable now. And Braga did come very close once or twice. However, Justin Bijlow is at the top of his form and thanks to our goalkeeper at halftime the scoreline still had not changed.

The second half was even harder that the first half. Braga attacked and we barely withheld the pressure when they made a final double substitution and brought on two fresh attacking players! However the very next match minute Viana had to come off the field injured and because Braga had already replaced three players they had to finish the game with ten men now!

We immediately brought on Dylan Vente and Calvin Verdonk and as Braga attacked in vain with ten men the clock ticked down until the final whistle was blown. We had done it!

Ruud Vormer was important as defensive midfielder, but a very confident Justin Bijlow (who is still banned for Dutch games) was named Man of the Match!
    Spoiler!

And while we qualified for the next round SC Heerenveen were eliminated by Athletic Bilbao...

Meanwhile, in their Eredivisie match Ajax had Ziyech sent off in the first half but after NAC Breda had two players sent off early in the second half the game was quickly decided with Tadic scoring the clinching goal six minutes later.

And in Eindhoven PSV continued their undefeated run as they demolished Excelsior Rotterdam, so PSV they are still in first position.

    Spoiler!

And finally, Club Brugge have made a shock bid for Justin Bijlow - only 3M short of Bijlow's release clause fee!

Lucky to get away with a draw but job was done in 1st leg

    Who do you have next?

Convincing win from PSV and Ajax

Eek - close to release fee - bit of a shitty team to come if him as well? Anyone else interested in him?

Yes, eek! Bijlow is valued at 4.3M so we felt safe with the 22.5M minimum fee release clause, but this bid makes you wonder...

He's still proud to be playing at Feyenoord and enthusiastic about his future at the club, with that kind of money one never knows.

Oh, and no other clubs interested that we are aware of. Also, we don't know who our next opponents are yet.

    A well managed return leg

Is it me or there is a high number of red cards in your game ? Are you playing with a Saturn patch ?

Got the job done, most important thing.

Good job you increased the clause for Bijlow.

Solid qualification against a decent side. The next round could be interesting.

Predictable results for Ajax and PSV, but you are right up with them.

I bet Bijlow will be off as soon as his release is met. Is it worth offering another new contract with a 0 release clause
Do you have a plan B ? Are there any prodigal keepers out there ?

We actually have five goalkeepers. Two of them (Ten Hove and Koorevaar) are almost ready for the first team. Ten Hove has done well so far replacing Bijlow. Having said that, we do want to hold on to Bijlow and it might be an idea to see if he would accept a 0 release clause, but even then he might become unhappy if there's an attractive offer and we hold him to his contract.

A narrow but very important win over TOP Oss

You can't afford to lose points at TOP Oss but we very nearly did. But thanks to a late Vente goal we left Oss with the three points in the bag and a better position in the Eredivisie table!

We played TOP Oss with Jordy Wehrmann back as defensive midfielder and with Berghuis (back from his injury) as right midfielder. Vormer started out on the bench.

TOP Oss are having a remarkable season and it seemed that they actually looked to win the game early on, but Ramn ten Hove played very well again in his third game during Bijlow's suspension. Even so, Ten Hove needed some luck when Calor scored for TOP Oss and it was ruled out because Vermeij was offside!

In that remarkable first half our opponents produced more shots on goal than we did, but at half-time there were still no goals.

In the second half we tried to attack some more with the same players, but the TOP Oss defence line was hard to penetrate and so with thirty minutes remaining we brought on Kk and Burger, our two young attacking midfielders. However, TOP Oss did not seem impressed and not only did they defend well but they also they kept trying to attack.

And so, after Mooij had unleashed a volley at goal and had nearly scored for TOP Oss we made a final substitution and we brought on Dylan Vente and sure enough, less than ten minutes later Jordy Wehrmann took a very long throw-in towards Vente who tried his luck from outside the box and found the right corner of the net as we breathed a huge sigh of relief!

We got more than we perhaps deserved on this weekend after our European game! Ten Hove played very well but Malacia was named Man of the Match for the third time this season.
    Spoiler!

And with both PSV and Ajax unexpectedly dropping points we couldn't have wished for a better weekend! Especially with the two very challenging league games away against AZ and at home against PSV coming up next!

    Spoiler!

Justin Bijlow is suspended for one more match so in our next game against AZ, the current number four in the Eredivisie table, Ramn ten Hove will replace him again.

    Very important goal for Vente.
Who would have thought that you would be ahead of Ajax on goal difference !
Game in hand over PSV. Win that and you go top
Tough tie at Goodison, but home advantage in the second leg is a help
AZ is not going to be easy. The leagues top scorers, but they do concede a lot.

    Yesssss !

PSV and Ajax losing points against weak opposition is excellent news. Let's hope they lose some more before they have a chance to buy new players in the winter transfer window.

Vente the saviour of Feyenoord !
