Oooo that was close. Even if the numbers were in your favor.

It seems you've been conceding more in the last few games. Did you find a pattern in the way those goals are scored against you ?

Your wide midfielders are higher on the pitch and may protect less your fullbacks but other than that I can't find a reason

Fortunately Wijnaldum is in scintillating form since you play him in central midfield

Phew, hearts in mouth when they went 2:1 up! Surprised at those 8 ratings in defence despite conceding two from few chances.

We seem to score more goals and concede more goals since we play with a false nine and wingers.

The formation we started with had a lone striker and wide midfielders.

Wijnaldum saved the day for us - and possibly the season!

The defensive problems were all in the first half. Ratings went up in the second half. But Botteghin, who was always our best defender, is actually having a poor season now.

Fine comeback from 2-1 down and a deerved win

A performance from champions in the making maybe?

    Gini

In your hands now with the "easier" fixtures

Only 3 goals in it for goal difference though...............

Yes, Gini is our best prodigal son, but our last match is not an easy one. An away game against Heerenveen is a challenge! Buit the same goes for Ajax who have to play an away game against AZ.

    Starting formation against TOP Oss

With Eric Botteghin, our most experienced defender, suspended and Calvin Verdonk and Jordy Wehrmann both injured we will play TOP Oss with Mats Knoester as central defender alongside St.Juste and with Jordy Clasie as defensive midfielder.

It should be a relatively easy game but it could also be a very nervous game if we don't quickly find the net - and preferably twice!

That was a battle against VVV, probably more than it should have been
Goal difference is getting very tight now. +3 to you, but the number of goals you have scored should give you an extra .5 advantage.
Going to need a big win in one of the last 2 games. I don't think two 1-0 wins will be enough.

This is still possible for Ajax! Just a lot and a lot of goals are needed. Come on Ajax! Beat those Kakkerlaks!

This story isnít about Ajax CMCZ. I know that must be hard to believe but itís true. At the very least try to be supportive of the story...

    .
Truth is, they are both right. So we need a good win tonight at home against TOP Oss. No need to be nervous. Just three or four goals will do nicely!

Think I fall into CMCZ's side here where if Samsami is playing my real life supported club - sorry - but even then I would prefer they win

    On days like these...

When you are the Eredivisie table leaders and there are only two games remaining you need to win your final home game of the season, but in order to win you also need some luck.

TOP Oss are still not safe from relegation and they seemed happy to come away with a clean sheet, but we wanted more!

However, with just six minutes on the clock Wijnaldum's part was already over as he came off the field injured! This was a major setback, of course, but there was no time to waste so we brought on Sam Larsson and continued our control of the game.

However, with TOP Oss's very first counter-attack Bacuna received a long cross when he was clattered by St.Juste! And our defender's clumsy challenge gave the referee a decision to make!
    Spoiler!

Now when Mr.Higler decided to send St.Juste off he was furious. And in way that's understandable. After all, football is about emotions. But St.Juste was very lucky that no-one saw his gesture!

Anyhow, a free-kick was awarded and we brought on Noah Lewis and brought off Dylan Vente. What else could we have done? And so we had to finish the remaining eighty minutes of our game without a striker, or actually without our false nine!
    Spoiler!

Sixty seconds later Mr.Higler reached into his pocket again. And this time he pulled out a yellow card for Daryl Janmaat who wouldn't let go of Daan Klomp's shirt. So with only eleven minutes on the clock things looked very ugly for us...

And as we were still struggling to know what to do to put it right and some six minutes after Van Ginkel had scored the opener for Ajax against FC Emmen, Jordy Clasie's involvement in the game also ended as he had to go off injured as well!

So we were forced into our third substitution and we brought on Ruud Vormer to replace Clasie. No wonder we were desperate for half-time to come! But just before the break we were awarded a free-kick. Orkun KŲkÁŁ jogged over and sent the ball towards Malacia who let it drop before hitting an incredible volley into the top corner!

So we had done it! We were 1-0 up with ten men at half-time, but we still very much needed that break! Barclays once discovered that when your team concedes, your heart rate increases to 145.5% of resting, and when you score, your heart rate increases to 215.5% of resting, but this was worse!

In the second half we were not allowed to bring on any fresh legs and so we mostly defended. And Justin Bijlow was important for us again. Vermeij attempted to fire the ball in low, but Bijlow tipped it around the post. Van der Hoorn headed the ball for Cator to run into but Bijlow timed his dive perfectly and made a good save.

Meanwhile, in Amsterdam Dolberg scored the second goal for Ajax and so tension mounted in De Kuip but our young central defenders did very well and Top Oss were unable to breach our defence.

In Amsterdam Ziyech also scored for Ajax so that our rivals were 3-0 up now while Lůpez almost scored for TOP Oss when he hit a bullet header at goal, but Bijlow pushed the ball unto the post and the corner came to nothing.

And so, as the clock ticked down we withheld the pressure. N'Koyl hit a fierce shot but Bijlow made a fingertip save to divert the ball wide and to our relief the final whistle was immediately blown, although it took a long time before our heart rates went down to normal again!

    Summary
So Wijnaldum was injured and St.Juste was sent off, all within the first ten minutes. But on the day that it really mattered both Noah Lewis and Mats Knoester played fantastically and Knoester was even named Man of the Match. Much credit to our defence with Malacia even scoring the crucial free-kick!
    Spoiler!

Now Ajax beat FC Emmen (3-0) in the Johan Cruijff Arena so we are still in first place by goal difference, but it's only by one single goal now!

However, because of last night's narrow victory at least we have already qualified for Champions League football!

But we shall have to play our final game of the season without the injured Georginio Wijnaldum and without the suspended Daryl Janmaat and Jeremiah St.Juste, while Calvin Verdonk will also still be unavailable.

Now this is what you call close. You know how to make this tense
Selection problems for the final day
Neither team has a nailed on win on the final day
I expect that at some point in the 90 minutes you will be behind Ajax
It may be limping, but lets get this one over the line.

Surely the league is yours after that game

    Great stuff from the D-Unit!

Huge game next up and with a lot of selection choices to make

If Ajax win this league with playing AZ away then fair play

Uppa Feyenoord (great that CL footie sorted as well - that will be a good test for the squad where you've been awful in Europe thus far)
