Wonít 1-0 do it and Barca win. Put you through on goals scored? Is goal difference the first scenario in champions league?

Won't 1-0 do it if Barca hold Roma to a draw, even? Too many scenarios!

Well, if we win 1-0 and Roma play 0-0 or 1-1 then yes, we are through, but if Roma play 2-2 it's unclear; and if they play 3-3 they are through. Or so it seems to me.

A 1-0 or 2-1 win would put you above United on away goals in the head to head. Obviously you need Roma to not win as well.

    (I think)

I thought it was based on head to head in 01/02?

How did you do against Utd before?

Fine effort and maybe a 1 goal loss as more fair

The team are growing in stature

Lost 3-2 at old Trafford. Last minute penalty.

My worry in the head to head is if all 3 end up on 7 points. I think it then goes on goal difference then goals scored. You do have the advantage if it goes down to alphabetical order

I donít think you and United can tie on points and identical goals for/against. So not going down to alphabetical order

So ... final word. As I thought,

If 2 teams tie, it is decided firstly on head to head (including away goals) and then goal difference followed by goals scored. If things are still tied it resorts to alphabetical order.
If 3 teams tie, the head to head is ignored and it is straight to goal difference, goals scored and alphabetical order.

That makes it interesting. Obviously if Roma win or you don't win then it is simple and you are out. So lets first assume that you win and Roma lose. Then it is a tie between you and United.

If you win by 2 goals (or more) you win the head to head
If you win 1-0 or 2-1, you still go through on the head to head (by away goals)
If you win 3-2, it is still you, thanks to total goals scored
But should we have a 4-3 or 5-4 thriller then United progress thanks to the head to head away goals.

Now, if Roma draw with Barcelona and you win, it gets more complicated as the head to head (despite you winning both) is discounted.
Again 2 goals or more still takes you through, on goal difference (United drop to 4th)
If you win by 1 goal, then Feyenoord will be tied with Roma on goal difference, but be better than United on total goals scored, so it will depend on how many you and Roma score on the night.

If you score the same, or Roma score more on the night (eg 2-1 and 2-2) then you go through having scored more goals in total
If Roma score 3 (or more) more than you (eg 1-0 and 4-4) then Roma progress having scored more goals in total
If Roma only score 2 more than Feyenoord on the night. then we have a tie on all deciding factors and that's where it goes to Alphabetical order !!!

    (Don't call me Stato !)

Thanks for working that out! Options galore

Reminds me of the 2018 World Cup when Japan went through to the last 16 by virtue of having picked up fewer bookings!

Emil Hansson returns to De Kuip

Emil Hansson will return to De Kuip. The 23-year-old left winger will join our first squad as backup player for Chong. With both Larsson and Berghuis about to leave the club we would only have Tahith Chong and Crysencio Summerville as wingers so we are very glad that Hansson decided to return to De Kuip after his two year stint with FC Utrecht. During these two years Hansson has become a more mature player and he accepts the fact that Chong is our first choice.

    New player contracts

And then we are more than happy with the fact that both Naoufal Bannis (20) and Joshua Zirkzee (20) have signed new six-year contracts! In fact, Bannis signed his new contract on his 20th birthday!

    Spoiler!

    Spoiler!

And we have sealed new deals with three other very important first team players as well. All three of them have signed three-year contracts.

    Spoiler!

Think Hansson will make your first 11? Has a lot of good attributes but key ones like passing, crossing, creativity are a bit average

Yes, you're right. But he is more for squad depth as we will have literally no left or right midfielders (or wingers) next year besides Chong and Summerville if Bergwijn and Larsson both leave.

    Brilliant stuff al around!

How much extra wages are Chong and Bijow on now (and how much in signing fees?)

Hansson - great he got game time but hasn't really torn it up numbers wise - solid enough backup though

Well, these are their current monthly wages:

As you can see the younger players are still not getting top wages, even by Dutch standards. They get slightly higher wages every year or two so as to keep them happy and have them stay longer at the club. The signing fees are reasonable. After all, we sign very few, if any, big name players. Probably none this year.

So Bijlow (24) and Chong (22) are already getting quite a bit more than Bannis (20) and Zirkzee (20) who just signed new contracts.

In comparison, these are the monthly wages Man Utd (our next European opponents) are paying their players:

    Another impressive win

Some days the goals don't come easily, not even against 'easy' opponents. Other days football seems so easy and last night we demolished our opponents with Naoufal Bannis netting a brace!

And so our winning League run continues. The first goal came after a great pass by Wijnaldum. Chong used his feet well to turn on the ball; he fired it in low and hard and we were 1-0 up! Chong did a jig of delight as he celebrated his 10th goal of the season!

The second goal was the result of a poor goal kick by Padt. Janmaat stuck his head to the ball and Zirkzee darted onto the loose ball and hit it with his right foot and beat Padt to make it 2-0.

And that was only the beginning! Four minutes later Wijnaldum drifted a corner towards the penalty spot and Naoufal Bannis out-jumped Nieuwpoort and scored a fine header! And Bannis completed his brace just before the break. Zirkzee hit a fierce shot and Padt pushed the ball clear; Bannis got to the loose ball first and scored his tenth goal of the season, leaving the goalkeeper no chance!

With those three goals in ten minutes the match was obviously decided and the second half hardly mattered now. Even so, Wehrmann soon found the net to make it 5-0 but that was it. The only other significant thing was that Souren picked up a bad injury and had to leave the field on a stretcher.

    Summary
A superb team effort. All of our goals were scored by players who signed their new contract on Friday. Bannis scored a brace just two days after his 20th birthday and Zirkzee also found the net again. Chong was outstanding and Wehrmann continues to show that he doesn't only shine when he plays as defensive midfielder, but that he can play as central midfielder just as well. And Georginio Wijnaldum (31) ruled in midfield, produced two assists and was named Man of the Match!
    Spoiler!

Meanwhile, Ajax dropped two points in Venlo! They were 1-0 down after just five minutes but they quickly turned the game around. However, in the dying seconds Daniel scored the shock equaliser for VVV!

This means that we are now in first place in the Eredivisie table for the very first time this season! Now this is where we belong as defending Champions!

But as always, there is no rest for the wicked. It's Man Utd next and we shall have to play this crucial group game without Summerville and without Daryl Janmaat, who are both suspended, and of course also still without the injured Calvin Verdonk and Wouter Burger.

    Starting lineup against Man Utd

We will play Man Utd with Steven Berghuis for the suspended Crysensio Summerville and with St.Juste for Daryl Janmaat, who is also banned for this game. And because Verdonk and Burger are both still injured we don't have many quality subs available for this crucial match.

However, our starting XI know exactly what's expected of them and they are ready for it!

Man Utd need a win as well so do not come to defend. And let's face it, with a striker who gets paid exactly ten times as much as Joshua Zirkzee that would be the very last thing we'd expect of them!

Now there has been an awful lot of discussion about the various possible scenarios but one thing is certain, we need to win! And we can only hope that AS Roma don't win against FC Barcelona.

Because in a way, that is how simple it really is. If Roma win - or we don't win - then we are out!

Get in there. Perfect preparation for the European tie. Going top of the league must give the players a huge confidence boost.
