So the BO techno hobbits I spoke to said I had to run an EIGHTEEN hour memory test? Because I bought a PC with mega memory? it will take that long? Fucking technoshit pisses me off. Especially after not having a PC for an entire day, called them back this morning with the results, they say the memory is fine so I now have to stay in all day tomorrow to wait for an engineer to switch out the motherboard? on a brand new PC? already? I'm not a happy bunny. Scum. I went with Zoostorm because my last PC was from them and lasted 5 years at least and was still running fine when I decided to upgrade ..... I'm now regretting that decision ..... big time.

You willing to pay 1.5x more because of Alienware branding?

If I were you I would try and build one myself. Usually much less money and self satisfaction is guaranteed .

Although I am not one to say that.

Branding, a little. More so it's done for me and I don't have to worry about it Building a server, piece of cake. Building a fucking gaming pc to cover all games, worse than trying to sort 2 truck loads of mixed up lego by color and size when you can only see in monotone. At night.

Anyone know a good place to buy a PC monitor? I bought a Mac mini recently and the monitor I have is only 720p, which is horrible when you're used to using 1080 every day.

I need some advise, as per usual.
I'm looking at buying a new desktop after my 2nd Dell Laptop has had a hard drive failure! I'm looking to do a bit of future proofing, hoping to get 8-10 years from it, so I was looking at an i5-6xxx or i7-6xxx, 8 GB RAM (minimum), with a GeForce GTX 9xx. I hoping to get one, with a HD monitor for 700-800, but the cheapest I've found is an ASUS gaming rig at PC World for 1,399 (w/o a monitor). Am I being completely nieve or just looking in the wrong places? I've never built one and really don't want to go down that route, so i was wondering if anyone here could point in a different direction? Or tell me I'll have to bite the bullet and be prepared to spend more to get more!

The ASUS gaming rig is: Republic of Gaming G20CB
    i7-6700, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 128 GB SSD, GTX 980, no monitor, 1,399

And within 5 minutes of my original post (typical)

    ASUS G11CD:
    i5-6400, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, GTX 970, no monitor, 869.99

    Thoughts?

I'm looking for some laptop advice if possible. I'm after a laptop for two things only...

Firstly to organise my photos (into folders/on to portable hard drives/DVD etc)...

And secondly to play CM. I rarely play with more than 2 or 3 leagues loaded

Obviously it doesn't have to be all singing all dancing!!

I have seen them for sale either brand new (cheap and probably low spec), brand new but old models, reconditioned, or 2nd hand....

    Any recommendations?

Look at Lenovo, Acer laptops. Should be fairly affordable. Can't name models out of my head though.

I badly need an upgrade and have been looking at suping up a Lafite III, mainly for the small footprint mobility. There's a nice configurator on PCSpecialist's website. As I was concentrating on the mobility side I was looking at all SSD, but I have to do some more investigation into rewrite cell life. I'm likely pushing things too far on my wishlist for the sake of size, but has anyone any experience with either PCSpecialist or the Lafite?

Now, my real question. Anyone reasonably versed with Mate & Compiz? Yes, I know - Linux with bells & whistles, but I like my aesthetics and you can configure some {prettily} handy workflow/productivity shortcuts.

I must be missing something obvious, but I cannot for the life of me get the App Switcher to change viewports. Given I can get it to show me all open windows on all workspaces, surely there is a way to focus the one I want?!

Example: Say I have 3 workspaces (and I've already configured Place plugin to open the apps in specific viewports) - 1 with a tutorial open in the browser; 1 for GIMP; 1 for a webpage I'm putting together. When I Alt-Tab (or whatever keybind) it brings up the window list and cycles through the open windows (for all desktops), but if I'm trying to jump from tutorial to GIMP, when I select GIMP in the window list I just get dropped back to the current viewport.

I apologise for randomly mixing workspace, viewport & desktop. Any Compiz whizzes out there?
