“Culture is not your friend. Culture is for other people’s convenience and the convenience of various institutions, churches, companies, tax collection schemes, what have you. It is not your friend. It insults you. It disempowers you. It uses and abuses you. None of us are well treated by culture.”
    – Terence McKenna

Cruyff : (Cruyff on Laudrup's lack of killer instinct during matches): "Had Michael been born in a poor ghetto in Brazil or Argentina with the ball being his only way out of poverty he would today be recognised as the biggest genius of the game ever. He had all the abilities to reach it but lacked this ghetto-instinct, which could have driven him there."

Guess Cruyff never saw Kaka (depending on when he said that)

Wouldn't have it been the same for Kaka? He was Brazilian but by all accounts from the wealthier parts.

I think Kaka is a good comparison as he shares some of the same characteristics as Laudrup... both graceful and elegant in their style of playing but often quite reserved...

" Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him. Drive him back into his jungle liar, for he is the harbinger of death."

The other night Chile lost 3-0 against Uruguay despite having 73 % ball possession in the match...
Being presented with the stats on the post match presser Chile coach Sampaoli dropped this...
"One night, I went to a bar, I was with a woman. We talked all night. We laughed, we flirted, I paid for several drinks of hers.
At around 5am, a guy came in, grabbed her by the arm and took her to the bathroom. He made love to her and she left with him. That doesn’t matter, because I had most of the possession on that night."

    Cheers
