Legolas be fairly standard one, film and book characters are quite common.

John Magnier and Michael Tabor have used famous landmarks and places along with US terms for horses. Some of the best theyve owned have been Galileo, Giants Causeway, Yeats, George Washington, High Chapparal

Winx done it again - 29 on the trot and a 4th Cox Plate:

Sure, one can argue "what's she beating?" - but any horse that wins so many consecutive races, many of Grade 1 status, over a variaty of trips, is pretty special. Also: effectially hands and heels she beats Benbatl here, who's a fairly decent individual himself as a 3x Group 1 winner.

The amount of people saying she should come to Europe and take on Enable. How about Enable goes to her AND Enable drops to 1 mile 2. Winx taking on Enable a 1m4f would be just idiotic and prove only that it isn't her trip

Winx has destroyed Highland Reel. Highland Reel was a top Group 1 preformer

Winx coming over to Europe was over as soon as connections decided against RA and opted for an historic fourth Cox Plate campaign. While personally I would have loved to see her over here, I can fully understand why they haven't done it.

I also don't need to see Winx vs Enable cause both horses are at their best over different trips. You wouldn't race Bolt vs. van Niekerk over 300m either.... oh wait, in fact there were some fools advocating for that not too long ago, actually!

Christ, Bolt would be in knots at the 250m mark

As I'm over in Phoenix right now took the chance to visit Turf Parade today. So far I found all the other US tracks I went to pretty.... dull. Usually mid-week, there isn't a lot going on, obviously. And probably, as a regular racegoer in Ireland I'm slightly spoiled. Anyway, neither Aqueduct, Los Alamitos nor Golden Gate Field - the three tracks I've been to - will ever see me back, even if I'd be in the era again.

So how does Turf Paradise compare? Well, it's a racing paradise indeed! Sure, it helps if the sun is shining and you can sip on some chilled beer at temperatures of 25 degrees, but what really stands out: TP is an actual racetrack, and not a casino that happens to have a few nags running as a sideshow, as it's the case at many US tracks these days.

Turf Paradise is smaller than the other tracks I've been to, but makes up for it with a super relaxed, serene and friendly atmosphere. You're close to the action. Free entry. Fair food and drink prices. An 8-racecard flew by without ever getting dull. Absolutely loved it!

    Few snaps I took today:

Turf Paradise is a great name, sounds like one of the virtual tracks in the bookies

With a name like that, would you believe it, they had only one (1!) race on turf on the card? One with eight races, mind you! The game isn't in the name here, or so it seems.

Turf is just synonymous with horse racing I guess (here it's something that you burn in the fireplace though)

Indeed... regardless how often I watch this.... still gets me every time.

Btw. ITB organises ever year a Stallion Trail. It's free and superb access to the big farms and stallions. Gilltown also opens its doors. Fantastic opportunity to meet Sea The Stars. Did it myself last year - what an experience: this guy really knows he's the king and he shows it; and he still looks all class. Some photos from last year's Trail can be found in my blog - 2019 is just around the corner in two weeks time. Can't recommend enough to sign up those living in Ireland.

A few pics from Leopardstown on the 28th. Great day even though started with two 2nd places when really I should have been backing the Blackmore/HdB combo blindly. Kemboy + Kemboy winnings of the even money shot in the bumper made a good day incredible

Just the one pic from Gowran yesterday. Great to see such an array of talent at my local track. Presenting Percy looks like good order even though it was a 3m hurdle and not a 3m chase he won. Great run from Killultagh Vic in the same race to come 3rd.

Also, Ruby knockers can seriously stop posting about 'his decline'. The man is still the best there is. Invitation Only surely in the Gold Cup chatter now too.

Really pissed off we missed the winner of the 4th, trained and owned within 4 miles of the track . . . . it was wearing the local GAA clubs colors a silks even

Sounds like a good day out. I watched the Presenting Percy victory and was impressed given it's been 3 years since its last run apparently! And yes, I still love Ruby so it was great to see him pick up a couple of winners

Hopefully the Dublin Racing Festival will survive the ice, a great meeting for Cheltenham pointers. Naas or Navan would be far better Cheltenhamesque tracks though

Ah, I don't know about that mate. Some of those American footballers look suspiciously like they've been injected with horse tranquilisers!

For anyone interested in the Cheltenham Festival I've set up a league on the Telegraph Fantasy Racing site.

    Details below:

    https://fantasyracing.telegraph.co.uk/

    League name: Champ Man 0102
    League Pin: 8174925

    All welcome.

The website seems like it's a bit suspect at the minute but the app is working fine.

When do you think odds will be stable enough for me to put Gold Cup on 0102Bet? Was currently planning to do it on Tuesday. Any other races in particular I should be covering during Cheltenham?

Put them up with a bit of extra maybe? Non-runner no comeback not so hard to take when you are getting better value then. e.g 2/1 > 5/2, 3/1 > 4/1, 10-1 > 12-1 etc.

The turf might be a bit wet though

Cannot wait. Cheltenham is the only time of the year I bet on horse racing and I'll have a couple of quid on every race on every day. Gutted that Elixir De Nutz isn't running in the first as he was in both a Super Heinz and a Lucky 15 I had. Punted on Al Dancer and Grand Sancy instead.

First race of the festival traditionally for me sets up how good/bad the whole week will go for me in terms of betting. So in half hour I'll either be up 50 or shouting into the Storm Gareth winds!
