Dream Team League - Season 6

Dream Team League - Season 6 - July

The Dream Team League returns with a bang for season six as we have a full house of 16 managers involved! First, we welcome peaceboy as manager of Derby County while AMC returns to the hot seat at Chelsea, a position vacated by Liam who has opted to move to Ipswich Town. It means that for the first time in a few seasons, all managers are competing against each other in the same league!

Derby have appointed their first Dream Team League manager

Rather than casting a glance through each squad in the Dream Team League, we'll allow ourselves to recap the more notable moves during pre-season as we look at each position in the starting eleven. As ever, pre-season has been full of big moves in the auctions and plenty of haggling between all 16 managers.

    GOALKEEPERS

It has to be said that the biggest shock in this area is the move of Joe Hart from ajvonkrondor's Spurs to BobMem's West Ham. Some may feel that Diego Lopez isn't quite an adept replacement for Hart after ajvonkrondor signed him from Janis89's Man Utd. Another making a move between clubs was Guillermo Ochoa, moving from trunky's Hull to Dermotron's Southampton. We also see two new goalkeepers join the Dream Team League as Fodster pulled off an impressive signing in Petr Cech for Everton while Liam snapped up Diego Benaglio for Ipswich.

    DEFENDERS

It's clear who was a stand out name in the defenders that came up in the auctions and the big money went on Gerard Pique with Dermotron winning him the Spaniard for Southampton. Elsewhere, Janis89 parted with another big name with Fabio Coentrao allowed to join Liam at Ipswich while Erkifino was quick to snap up Pablo Zabaleta for the title defenders Aston Villa. Victor Wanyama is capable of playing in defence and was a second addition for Dermotron while Mark brought in Danilo from Janis89's Man Utd for Newcastle. pyromyst got in on the action by signing Javi Garcia for his promoted Fulham side and Filipe Luis was a fine addition for Redknapp69's Swansea. Dermotron has certainly worked on his defensive side of the squad after also signing Neven Subotic for Southampton while vinjwoods did well to bring in Bruno Martins Indi for Liverpool from Tottenham. Other notable deals were the quartet of Per Mertesacker, Nikola Maksimovic, Marc Bartra and Juanfran for Erkifino at Aston Villa while Fabian Schar and Stefan Savic represented investment for their ajvonkrondor and Janis89 respectively.

    MIDFIELDERS

ajvonkrondor moved quickly once the transfer window opened to land Hulk as a new signing from trunky's Hull while Redknapp69 surprisingly let go of Marco Reus who was snapped up by Janis89 and also allowed Jordan Henderson to join ebfatz at Norwich. The Swansea boss quickly filled the gap by the big money signing of Mario Gotze while ajvonkrondor also brought in Marouane Fellaini at Spurs. Dermotron took a gamble in bringing in Erik Lamela from West Ham while Ipswich did well to snap up Eduardo Salvio through the auctions. Other notable deals all involved ajvonkrondor who brought in Ivan Rakitic, Iker Muniain and Taison while letting go of Xherdan Shaqiri (West Ham) and Kevin Kampl (Liverpool). peaceboy gave his team a boost against a relegation fight by signing Ricardo Alvarez from Janis89 on a season-long loan and we also saw Gerard Deulofeu (Southampton), Marco Verratti (Man Utd), Lewis Holtby (Liverpool), Nani (Fulham), Kwadwo Asamoah (Aston Villa) and Kevin Mirallas (Southampton) find themselves at new clubs.

    STRIKERS

Easily two of the biggest names in the auctions were snapped up by Janis89 and Redknapp69 who brought in Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski to their teams. Janis89 could well have partnered Cavani with Sergio Aguero but gave us all a shock in letting the Argentinian join ajvonkrondor at Spurs. Fodster did well in the auctions too, bringing in Jackson Martinez for Everton while Erkifino increased his pool of strikers at Aston Villa with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku via Liverpool. Pedro was another to leave Man Utd in joining Swansea while Dermotron got himself a player for the future when Lorenzo Insigne turned up at Southampton. There were still big names moving around as Danny Welbeck (Norwich), Fernando Llorente (Tottenham), Leandro Damiano (Liverpool), Ciro Immobile (Fulham) and Manolo Gabbiadini (Aston Villa) completed deals of their own.

As we prepared for the beginning of a new season, only one manager found their own season starting earlier than expected as Hull City were entered into the 3rd Round of the Inter-Toto Cup against German side Augsburg. Playing the first leg in Germany, it could not have gone any better for the Tigers as they cruised to a 4:1 win thanks to a brace from fan favourite Edin Dzeko as well as a debut goal for Javier Pastore an an own goal from Augsburg. The return leg was dominated by Hull with Augsburg not even having a shot on goal but Hull just couldn't score. Thankfully, the 4:1 win from the first leg sees them through to the Inter-Toto Cup Final where Russian team Amkar awaits.

Edin Dzeko puts in a man of the match performance in Augsburg

Amkar have no professional players on the books so trunky will have expected a riot as the first leg took place away from home once more. However, only Liam Ridgewell found the net as Hull gained a valuable away goal while keeping a clean sheet in the process. They now have one foot in the draw for the UEFA Cup with the second leg taking place in August.

In other news, Redknapp69's season will also start early in August as he will face Galatasaray in the Champions League Qualifiers. It'll be a tough game for him with German Pezzella, Serdar Aziz, Andrea Poli and Muhammed Demirci already sold to the Turkish side by our Dream Team League managers.

Erkifino will also take on Fluminense in the Intercontinental Cup, a team who already possessed Luis Advincula, Mario Bolatti, David Henen, Robinho, Victor Ibarbo and Peter Crouch!

Me buying Yaya doesn't even register in your midfielder lists?

    Blimey!

    Anyway...

Nice to get some friendlies under the belt, and 2 wins and a draw and 2 clean sheets is a good, if slow, start.

I only scanned the top 5 most valuable midfielders, trunky. I know why he didn't appear now actually, I was looking at it as Hull manager

Crouchie playing his footy in Brazil, maybe I should integrate him into my Brazilian squad

Great intro Mark, happy to get the best goalkeeper transfer of the summer. None of my other signings got a mention though.

Oh yeah, that's because they're all shite.

Dream Team League - Season 6 - August

The excitement within the ranks at the Dream Team League was at a real high as we moved into August, a month in which we'll see the Premiership season get underway at long last. August is also a big month for the champions as Erkifino will take on BobMem's West Ham in the Charity Shield as well as Fluminense in the Intercontinental Cup and Leverkusen in the Super Cup. Of course, Erkifino isn't the only one to feature on the global scene as trunky will also look to confirm his place in the UEFA Cup as Hull prepare to play their second leg of the Inter-Toto Cup Semi Final while both Redknapp69 and Fodster aim to win their qualifying matches to compete in the Champions League.

    6th August
Inter-Toto Cup, Semi Final, Leg 2
    Hull 1:0 Amkar

Having won 1:0 in the first leg, Hull complete the job by the same scoreline with a Javier Pastore penalty to make it into the Inter-Toto Cup Final. Just two more games to win for trunky to make it into the UEFA Cup!

Champions League, Third Qualifying Phase, Leg 1
    Swansea 2:1 Galatasaray
    Zurich 0:2 Everton

Robert Lewandowski scores an 89th minute winner on his debut for Redknapp69 as they win the first leg at home although Galatasaray did get an away goal. Meanwhile, Fodster's first appearance in the Champions League goes well as Chris Smalling and Kieran Richardson both score vital away goals to put Everton in a good position in the return leg.

    10th August
    Charity Shield
    West Ham 0:3 Aston Villa

The season starts with a bang for Erkifino who retains the Charity Shield, winning it for the third time. His Aston Villa side ran riot at the Cardiff City Stadium where BobMem sadly just didn't stand a chance. It took just two minutes for Kwadwo Asamoah to score on his debut and the familiar faces of Wayne Rooney and Sami Khedira wrapped it up afterwards.

    12th August
    Intercontinental Cup
    Fluminense 0:3 Aston Villa

Just two days after playing in the Charity Shield, the squad was much changed for Erkifino but goals from Luciano Vietto, Jeremy Menez and a Khedira penalty confirmed another trophy for Aston Villa in Saitama where Peter Crouch had Fluminense's only attempt at goal. Massive congratulations must go to Erkifino for being the first Dream Team League manager to win the Intercontinental Cup!

    Inter-Toto Cup, Final, Leg 1
    Hull 1:0 Levante

Up against a Levante team without any professional players on the books, trunky will be disappointed to only win 1:0 with Matej Vydra scoring on his debut. Hull did get lucky though as Liam Ridgewell was sent off with 10 minutes remaining and Levante missed the resulting penalty.

    16th August
    Premiership
    Aston Villa 4:1 Arsenal
    Fulham 4:1 Derby
    Hull 1:1 Chelsea
    Liverpool 0:2 Newcastle
    Man Utd 1:0 Southampton
    Norwich 1:1 Man City
    Sunderland 1:3 Everton
    Swansea 1:2 Ipswich
    Tottenham 2:2 West Ham
    West Brom 0:0 Crystal Palace

The season gets going and there were some surprises in store and some that wasn't quite so surprising. The latter was certainly the case for Erkifino who smashes Arsenal 4:1 despite having Bernd Leno sent off after 38 minutes. Goals from Cesc Fabregas (2), Andres Iniesta and Arjen Robben means the defending champions start their Premiership campaign in style. Catching the eye were recently promoted Fulham as pyromyst defeats peaceboy 4:1 with the Derby manager's debut in the Dream Team League not going quite so well. In fairness, the scores were locked at 1:1 before goalkeeper Silvio Proto was sent of for peaceboy which led to three goals for pyromyst. Tarik Elyounoussi had scored for Derby but debut goals too for Alvaro Gonzalez, Mario Gomez, Ciro Immobile and Nani confirmed the win for Fulham. Elsewhere, trunky and AMC played out a draw as did AJ and BobMem as well as ebfatz and Jesus. Liam sprung a surprise on Redknapp69 with a 2:1 win at Swansea and Dermotron starts with a defeat to Janis89. Fodster also impressed with a 3:1 win over Sunderland as expected while Mark defeated vinjwoods at Anfield.

    19th August
    Premiership
    Arsenal 1:4 Norwich
    Derby 1:2 Aston Villa

Staying top of the league is Erkifino after a win over peaceboy as Robben and Rooney scored before a late Rodriguinho strike. Meanwhile, Joleon Lescott, Danny Welbeck (2) and Jordan Henderson helps ebfatz to a big win at Arsenal.

    20th August
Champions League, Third Qualifying Phase, Leg 2
    Everton 3:0 Zurich
    Galatasaray 2:3 Swansea

Everton win 5:0 on aggregate after Arturo Vidal, Jackson Martinez and Falcao score in a 3:0 win over Zurich to put Fodster into the Champions League proper. As for Swansea, Redknapp69 had a scare when Galatasaray led after just a minute but Lewandowski equalised before Holger Badstuber and Mario Gotze confirmed passage with a 5:3 aggregate victory.

    Premiership
    Chelsea 1:0 Man City
    Crystal Palace 3:2 Sunderland
    Ipswich 3:1 Fulham
    Man Utd 3:0 Liverpool
    Newcastle 4:1 West Brom
    Southampton 3:2 Tottenham
    West Ham 3:1 Hull

A huge win for Mark with goals from Pato, Hernanes, Bernard and Luiz Adriano sees Newcastle move to the top of the table but the game of the day has to be a 3:2 win for Dermotron over AJ. Ivan Rakitic had given Spurs the lead but Southampton rallied with goals from Dani Parejo, Kevin Mirallas and Mauro Icardi to win the game despite a late Fernando Llorente strike. Elsewhere, Jesus suffered defeat to AMC while Janis89 recorded a good result over vinjwoods, as did BobMem over trunky. It's also noted that Liam makes it two wins in two games with a 3:1 win over pyromyst in which Jordan Rhodes struck twice along with Keisuke Honda.

    22nd August
    Super Cup
    Leverkusen 1:4 Aston Villa

Leverkusen wouldn't be an easy game for Erkifino with Oliver Sorg, Wendell, Michael Dawson, Leandro, Shinji Kagawa, Adam Szalai and Mario Balotelli having been sold by our DTL managers to the German side. However, a third trophy of the season is won for Aston Villa already as they were brushed aside with relative ease as Robben and Rooney record two goals each. Again, it is the first time in the history of the Dream Team League competition that a manager has won the European Super Cup.

    23rd August
    Premiership
    Hull 3:0 Crystal Palace
    Norwich 1:1 Chelsea
    Sunderland 1:0 Arsenal
    Swansea 1:2 Man Utd
    Tottenham 2:2 Newcastle
    West Brom 1:0 Derby

A shock win for Janis89 at Swansea where Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba scored goals to beat Redknapp69 left him still searching for his first win of the season. An unfortunate 1:0 defeat for peaceboy at West Brom also means he too is awaiting his first three points this season. A third manager in AJ is also seeking victory for the first time after being held to a 2:2 draw by Mark in which Diego Souza and Danilo had scored for Newcastle but a Llorente brace got Spurs a point.

    24th August
    Premiership
    Fulham 2:1 Southampton
    Man City 1:2 Everton

Jesus becomes a fourth manager who hasn't earned three points yet after losing at home to Fodster. Kevin Volland had given Man City a lead and although Wesley Sneijder had equalised, a red card for Muhamed Besic put paid to any hopes of a win for Jesus as Falcao went on to score the winner. Elsewhere, Fulham are enjoying a great start having come up from the Championship and beat the odds to defeat Dermotron with goals from Ibrahim Afellay and Gonzalez.

    25th August
    Premiership
    Liverpool 0:2 Ipswich

Last but not least, playing in front on the TV cameras, it was certainly an entertaining game as vinjwoods was left with 10 men after just 13 minutes with a red card to Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe. That allowed Mikel Arteta to open the lead for Liam's Ipswich before he too, was down to 10 men with Honda being sent off just before half-time. Nevertheless, Liam made it 3 wins in 3 games with Rhodes confirming a 2:0 win over vinjwoods who will undoubtedly be unhappy with a winless start that leaves him rooted to the foot of the table.

    Inter-Toto Cup, Final, Leg 2
    Levante 0:3 Hull

Playing the second leg of the Inter-Toto Cup Final before the international fixtures kick in, trunky's team were much improved in Spain as Ezequiel Lavezzi, Morgan Schneiderlin and Edin Dzeko ensured that Hull won 4:0 to become involved in the UEFA Cup next month.

Just so you know mate, you put Ipswich 3-1 Ipswich...When it should have been Fulham. That had me a little on edge!

Great write-up Mark, I really like the 'live' league table updates. Gives us all something to talk about before we can look at the save

Decent start for West Ham once the Charity Shield was out of the way. Well played Erk, on that and your 2 other trophies.

Pretty happy with 9th with a game in hand, although it is against either Erk, Fods or Redders. Mind you Redders looks easy pickings right now!

Also, that's the first CM league table I've ever seen with Ipswich at the top which wasn't my own save, nice one Liam!

Hopefully will get a chance for a slightly longer review when I look at the save.
