With Bolton sinking like a stone in recent years, you can bet that their supporters will be casting a jealous eye over the Vipers fortunes, having seen them rise from the Conference just three years ago to confirmation of Championship football next year, recording three back to back promotions.

Promotion is indeed confirmed but the title is not. As we all know, Sheffield United are only a point ahead of the Vipers going into the final game of the season where they'll take on Scunthorpe who reside in 8th place though they can no longer make the playoffs. Meanwhile, Bolton do have something to play for as they try to confirm the only spot left in the playoffs with Bradford three points behind them.

That surely means that it won't be easy for the Vipers but The Gaffer is certainly looking to go out on a high, knowing that a victory could see them win the title if Sheff Utd are held to a draw or even lose. Also, scoring two goals against Bolton will also see the club record a whopping 100 league goals!

Looking at his options for the game, The Gaffer was indeed given a blow when Baz was ruled out with injury. With trunky also out of action, that means asking Dermotron to play at left-back once again in a role that he performed solidly against Port Vale. PedroM had been the only player to register a 6 in that game but with no other options for centre-backs, he is asked to play there once again.

That of course, means that the team is unchanged for the last game of the season. Even the bench is unchanged as there is no spot for samsami and drkshadow1 to join the squad so they join our injured left backs in the stands.

As the whistle blew, here we are at last. The last game of the season, a long season indeed with this being the 56th game of the season for the Vipers but what a season it's been too. With promotion already assured, The Gaffer just wanted the team to bow out on a high and hope for the best at Bramall Lane.

It certainly wouldn't be easy. The game remains competitive with Bolton wanting a playoff spot and they also boast the fact that they beat the Vipers in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, as they won 2:1 despite Bevchenko scoring.

The Trotters certainly took the initiative straight away, pushing the Vipers back and won themselves a free-kick in the 5th minute. Up stepped Beevers who swiftly put it into the box and Madine got above ebfatz to head it into the net!

The Vipers were shocked but not shell-shocked as they immediately hit back with Bevchenko doing well to create space before a shot was turned away for a corner by Lastuvka. The goalkeeper though, was wise to Bevchenko's delivery and punched it clear before Beevers was booked for pulling back Redknapp69.

To make matter worse for the Vipers, Sheffield United had taken an early lead against Scunthorpe too.

The Vipers concentrated on their own affairs first though and soon, gazzas1uk progressed forward with a run and spotted movement in the area, passing it for AJ to power in as an 11th minute equaliser! Meanwhile, Sheffield United had made it 2:0...

Bolton were penned back now after their bright start. Redknapp69 teed up AJ for another shot but Lastuvka parried it away. Bevchenko's lifted corner was driven straight into the net by Redknapp69! After 17 minutes, the Vipers had turned the game around.

In the 24th, there was another goal at Bramall Lane but it was the home side scoring again to make it 3:0. I don't think the Vipers will be able to get the title after all.

Back to the Snake Pit, it was soon 3:1 with a ball from Redknapp69 for AJ cleared by Beevers. It was collected by gazzas1uk who passed into the area for Bevchenko to rifle into the net on a half-volley which was his 5th goal of the season!

Bevchenko then earned a penalty for the Vipers as he received the ball by Redknapp69 and tried to take it past Moxey only to be pulled back. The referee (Tom Jones!) awarded a penalty and a yellow card for Moxey. Kowalinho strode up the pitch to take the penalty but his spot-kick was saved by Lastuvka! It fell to gazzas1uk but the goalkeeper recovered in time to beat his shot away.

The half-time whistle came soon after another chance for the Vipers, Bevchenko having lifted the ball forward for hornbloweroafc but his volley was scooped well over the crossbar.

Victory was a formality now for the Vipers, though Jarvi had a chance go wide when set up by Madine. Bolton then made a change with Moxey replaced by Taylor before Scunthorpe gave us hope with Tom Hopper scoring in the 66th minute.

Redknapp69 hit a volley over the bar and a minute later, a poorly taken goal kick was flicked on by Bevchenko with the loose ball collected by AJ who hit it in from 20 yards out!

With 20 minutes left on the clock, the game was over for hornbloweroafc as ZanSnake joined the action and Felix did likewise in the 79th, London35 coming off in the process. Meanwhile, Tom Jones turned down a penalty shout for Bolton as Kowalinho looked to have brought Long down in the box.

Felix nearly had himself an assist with a lay off for gazzas1uk but it was blasted over the bar. ZanSnake though, did register one, after AJ had tried to play the ball past Beevers who stuck a leg out and saw the ball divert to ZanSnake. With no space to shoot, he fed it wide for Redknapp69 who blasted it into the top corner to make it 5:1!

The combination of Redknapp69 and AJ nearly resulted in goal number 6 but the cross for AJ was headed wide before full-time came. Sheff Utd had won 3:1 so they win the title but either way, it's au revoir to League One for the Vipers!

Think I made some effort by that sub, who knows if we would of won this game otherwise!

Great season for us, a disgrace we couldn't win the league but promotion was the most important thing. Let's sweep clean the championship now!

As far as I'm concerned that keeper cost ye the title. Not the one that didn't show up to training the other one that conceded all the goals.

Excellent match to see the season out. Shame about Sheffield Utd, but we did all we could. 99 points is normally enough to be miles clear!

I'm off to see a specialist physio over the summer about my proneness to injury.

I don't understand how come I haven't started lately? But oh well, nice to see season out with a large win and hope we'll continue that into preseason. Of course after a deserved break

A fine end to the season and promotion is all that matters

Delighted to finish off with a good individual performance and AJ seems to be telepathic with me

Phenomenal TEAM effort this season. I remember when the chips were down and for a number of games the gaffer struggled to get a starting 11 and we all played where we could to help us achieve the common goal

Well deserved break now to recharge but next season will be a toughie

Let’s start spending those attribute points!
