The form is coming back and squad depth looks good. With the injuries, are you thinking about bringing in another option up front though?

The narrow wins against Swansea were the result of our 4-1-4-1 formation which is very strong defensively, but we don't score easily. We'll have to use that formation against FC Bayern and perhaps one more game and then Fekir will be back and we can revert back to our new 4-1-3-2 formation again.

Agüero will be back two weeks later. We have Duelund as backup and Cristian Vera. So that should be enough. Vera is only 21 but he could be the most talented striker we've got!
    Spoiler!

Can Rovers stop revenge-seeking FC Bayern?

FC Bayern will need to win their final group match at Ewood Park. They have a superb team with Lewandowski and Müller as striker partnership but even so we held them to a draw at the Allianz Arena. So they will undoubtedly seek revenge!

For us the return match will be a huge challenge without our striker duo - Agüero and Fekir - so perhaps the main question is, can we hold FC Bayern to stalemate? Or can we surprise them and score an early goal so that FC Bayern will need to score twice?

Most football pundits seem to think that FC Bayern have the best chance, but some have said that they believe we can keep the German football champions to a 0-0 draw. Only time will tell. Tomorrow we will know!

Only one thing is certain. Our nearly water-tight defence line will be tested more than they have ever been tested before! Undoubtedly FC Bayern will put us under huge pressure. They will hardly underestimate us like they did at the Allianz Arena!

László red card kills Bayern game for Rovers

On Tuesday 10th November we played our final Champions League group match against FC Bayern in front of an enthusiastic near-capacity crowd who had expected so much, but the sending-off of Ferenc László and the penalty which was awarded quickly dashed their hopes.

We shall never know if we could have held mighty FC Bayern to stalemate at Ewood Park. The red card and the penalty were obviously the reason for our side's Champions League exit.

We started defensively but so did FC Bayern. But within fifteen minutes Clasie had to go off injured. We brought on Matic to replace our Dutch central midfielder and immediately FC Bayern started to put less emphasis on the defence.

Our lads were ready for the challenge, but when Müller escaped the off-side trap and advanced into the box László clipped his feet! A penalty was awarded and László received a red card for his professional foul!! We had little choice now, so Duelund left the pitch as we brought on Steele. And Müller himself stepped up to hit the penalty and he confidently sent Steele the wrong way to score!

After that fateful 21st minute the match was dead as a spectacle. We had to continue with ten men and without a striker we were toothless. FC Bayern halfheartedly tried to score a second goal, but they were not willing to take any risks and Steele showed safe hands when Lewandowski and Sanches attempted shots on target.

Our hopes had been raised after we defeated Swansea twice in a row, but it only lasted 21 minutes before our hopes were dashed again...

    What a disillusionment!
    Spoiler!

So all that remains for us now is the Europa League. And in fact we have already drawn Cagliari in the 3rd Round. Right now our lads could not care less, but that's football!

We shall just have to lick our wounds and remain positive as it's back to reality for our lads with fixtures against the likes of Charlton and Sunderland. But after having just played Olympique Lyonnais and FC Bayern it could be hard for some of them to find the motivation for these next few matches.
    Spoiler!

Clasie will be unavailable for almost a month, so Matic will get game time as central midfielder. We have enough good midfielders but we are desperate to get our strikers back from injury.

László has only been banned for one match, so that is no problem as it Steele's turn to play against Cagliari.

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooo!

In hindsight, for such a big game, should Steele have started? (even though Lazalo is the "cup" keeper)

That spoils the game for me as I really wanted to see if you could hold them out with 11 v 11

No shame given Bayern's team though!

Hey - still in Europe so take the positives and go win that. Calgiari seems a nice start

And even more postive is the next bucnh of games - all look winnable to get you going once more

Damn, unlucky against Bayern. Laszlo certainly going through a blip at the moment having been so reliable when called upon before.

Rovers bounce back and defeat Charlton

On Monday 16th November we played Charlton Athletic at The Valley without Clasie and without Agüero and Fekir, but particularly in the second half it seemed as if our lads had already fully recovered from the Bayern match and wanted to show our fans what they can do!

It took a while before we had picked up steam, though. Charlton came out with an attacking formation and Traoré was suddenly through on goal and scored with a simple finish! Fortunately, seven minutes later Praet already cancelled out Traoré's opener with a lovely strike after a superb 35-yard ball by Van Dijk!

We were by far the better team after that equaliser, but although we created plenty of scoring chances there were no more goals in the first half. However, Gardner and Pérez García had to go off injured and just before the break Van Dijk's part in the game was also over as he came off the field injured as well.

The second half started where the first half had left off. Mahrez was the next one to pick up an injury and he was replaced by Sisto. This was not good! But that did not stop us. With 61 minutes on the clock Duelund had a go on goal and he scored! And there were further chances for Praet, Duelund, Chirivella and Mahrez but it took until the 80th minute before Chirivella found the net. It started with Sisto who searched out Praet to his left and Praet flicked the ball out right to Duelund who passed ahead of Chirivella in the area. Our Spanish midfielder found himself with plenty of time and he hit a speculative effort and scored to cap a brilliant Rovers move.

In the final ten minutes or so we even brought on young Aidan O'Neill when Nyambe had received a yellow card.

A superb team performance, with Duelund named Man of the Match, but they could also have picked Praet or Wahlqvist or Chirivella or Van Dijk or Steele! All of them played brilliantly today!
    Spoiler!

A much needed win and a good confidence booster. Who knows what this season will bring yet? Although, Liverpool and Chelsea seem to be on fire and it makes you wonder who will stop them.

    Spoiler!

We will be playing Sunderland next. Another away game but this time Fekir will be available again so we can actually switch back to our two-striker formation with Fekir and Duelund as striker partnership, at least until Agüero is fully fit again.

Clasie is still injured and with Mahrez and Praet now also injured we may have a slight midfield problem after all. We still have Matic and we have great substitutes in Sisto, Chirivella, Chalobah and Grimes but arguably our best three midfielders are all currently injured after Praet got injured in training the day after the match!

Rovers win 'dreadful game' at the Stadium of Light

On Saturday 21st November we played Sunderland at the Stadium of Light with Fekir and Duelund as striker duo, but without any of our usual midfielders (Praet, Clasie and Mahrez) who are all injured.

But at least Fekir was finally back from his injury. However, the pleasure only lasted only eight minutes! It was a dreadful game with red cards, penalties and another injured player as well, but at least we won again.

With Fekir finally back from injury we could play with two strikers again and with just two minutes on the clock Fekir already made his mark when he skimmed one in hard but hit the post!

The next two chances were for Sunderland, but we easily withstood the pressure. But then an overzealous Fekir made a dangerous two-footed challenge on Crowley in his own penalty area! Fekir received the red car and a penalty was awarded. Cohen stepped up and nestled the ball into the back of the net to score his first ever goal for Sunderland. And to make matters worse, that very same minute Henley picked up a knock and he had to go off! We brought on our youth player Aiden O'Neill to replace him and so the 19-year-old made his second appearance in our first team.

Anyhow, this was the most horrible start we could have wanted. However, although we had to continue with one striker Duelund came to the rescue! After a perfect assist by Wahlqvist Duelund hit a hopeful looking shot and he scored the equaliser, barely two minutes after that penalty!!

Both teams played much more cautiously now, until the 38th minute when Amos clipped the feet of Duelund in the area and the referee had little choice but to award us a penalty! And Duelund calmly scored from the spot!

In the second half we brought on Chalobah for Besic, who had received a yellow card, and when Matic was also shown yellow we brought on Grimes to replace him as well.

And with our three subs we managed to survive until the very welcome final whistle so that we could leave the Stadium of Light with the three points in the bag, but it wasn't a very pleasant afternoon!

We deserved the win though, and Duelund was named Man of the Match again.
    Spoiler!

Meanwhile, Liverpool dropped two points while Spurs defeated Chelsea to keep the title race interesting, to say the least, even at this early stage!

    Spoiler!

Now with these two away wins we would seem to be back on track and more or less ready to play Cagliari at the Stadio Sant'Elia.

More or less, because while Fekir has been banned for three English matches he will at least be available for our European games.

However, Henley will not be available. His fresh injury will keep him out of action for almost a month. Henley is our third injured defender after Van Dijk and Martins Indi.

This means that no less than eight of our 24 registered players - including our entire midfield - will be unavailable when we play Cagliari on Wednesday! A lot will be expected of Steele, Besic and Matic.
    Spoiler!

    How long VVD out for?

Wow - mad game but you came out on the right side of it which is the main thing

Everyone pulling togetehr at the moment which is great to see - you're very much up against it but always have a solid defensive unit to make you hard to beat!

In the away game against Cagliari our defence and especially Besic are very much needed indeed!

Van Dijk will be out for at least three more weeks, so he will miss a lot a games.

Cagliari too strong for injury-crippled Rovers

On Wednesday 25th November we played Cagliari in the Europa League Third Round First Leg at the Sant'Elia Stadium with no less than eight of our registered players unavailable!

Our midfield in particular looked very different from normal. Sisto, Matic and Chirivella had to replace Praet, Clasie and Mahrez and they clearly struggled against our Italian opponents. And the same can be said of our youth player Aidan O'Neill as right defender. He played well against Sunderland but today it became clear that he is not ready for the big games yet.

So it's fair enough to say that the injuries have crippled our chance of advancing in Europe.

Then again, we have not been eliminated yet. But hopefully some of our key players will be available again when we play the return match as we shall have to score at least twice at Ewood Park!

Southampton and Liverpool also had a bad evening and like us they will need to do a lot better in the return match.

As it was Cagliari played quite well and they created a decent number of scoring chances. Giovinco and Nagy in particular played very well and between them they produced quite a few shots on target. Steele, who is still getting better every year, is at the top of his form, though!

But with 65 minutes on the clock Giovinco finally found the net with a ferocious left-footed strike after he had skipped past the challenge of Akpoguma. This time there was nothing Steele could do about it.

After that goal Cagliari seemed to take their foot of the gas a little and Fekir almost scored when Sisto hit the ball ahead of our striker in the area. Fekir drove the ball low towards the goal but Cragno parried it. The rebound fell to Fekir who was clattered by Bianchetti, but for some reason the referee turned down our penalty appeal. And what's more, Fekir was even shown a yellow card for diving!!

We certainly miss the likes of Van Dijk, Praet, Clasie, Mahrez and Agüero! However, thanks to Steele, Akpoguma and Besic we conceded just one goal. But the return match will be a real challenge nonetheless!
    Spoiler!

Now unfortunately we shall have to play the return match without Besic, who has been banned for one match after to-day's yellow card. Hopefully some of our players who were unavailable today will return from their injuries in time for the return match!

At least Bruno Martins Indi has resumed full training, so he should be available again, but we still have six injured players while Fekir is suspended for three English games. So we cannot even take if for granted that we will defeat Bolton Wanderers in our next Premier League match...

Crippling SUNDERLAND chance of advancing in Europe?! Eh? Typo there?

Not unexpected result with injury crisis but no away goal could be huge

Wow - can't even fill the bench

Damn - Besic banned is huge. Will Matic be back to replace him?

1-0 v Bolton will do please!

Another ban too, surprised there wasn't an injury to go with it

Lack of available players gone against you there. Always bound to happen though at some point, you've coped quite well considering!

You can do it in the return leg at home

Undeserved loss vs Cagliari.. should have gotten a draw there imo.

Four home games in a row now, so if everything goes your way that would be 9 points and next round of Europa League.

That could be asking a bit much of a team with so many subs, but we'll see.
