    Blackburn Rovers vs Wigan Athletic

Sado Berahino is Wigan's star player. He is their lone striker and we will have to make sure that he does not get too much space. Other that our scouts see little reason to worry.

We will rest a few players and Vera will actually get another chance as striker. However, this is the EFL Cup Quarter Final so we won't rest too many players and Di Bari will be ready when we need him!

Aidan O'Neil (20) is one of the two talented youth players who were promoted to our senior team last week. With Nyambe leaving in January we will need another defender on the bench and O'Neil will get his chance against Wigan already!

Our other youth player is Alfonso Serrano (18). He will replace Pione Sisto, who will also leave the club in January. If we manage to get two goals up against Wigan then Serrano might also get game time.

Rovers to EFL Cup Semi Final

On Wednesday 8th December we played Wigan in the EFL Cup Quarter Final in front of a crowd of 36,986 and after ninety somewhat disappointing minutes with only one real highlight we qualified for the Semi Final.

It wasn't a bad game at all but without Agero and Di Bari we lacked creativity and killer-instinct. Or perhaps we took things lightly after the fantastic win at Old Trafford?

We played well enough and with twenty-five minutes on the clock Vera chipped the ball into the penalty area towards Surez who got up to head at goal and scored.

The crowd expected goals of course, but although we continued to play well, nothing of significance happened after that opener and the crowd got a bit restless.
    Spoiler!

In the second half we finally created a few more chances. Vera shot on the volley, but McJannet saved superbly and held the ball. Mahrez skipped past Amevor and smashed in low but he sent the ball inches wide of the goal. And just before the final whistle Vera unleashed a shot on goal and McJannet saved but could not hold onto it. However, Smith hoofed the ball clear.

So we outplayed Wigan but we only produced three shots on target in the entire match. Surez was named Man of the Match.
    Spoiler!

    Spoiler!

So we qualified for the EFL Cup Semi Final, but we will have to wait and see if we will meet Tottenham Hotspur or Leeds United in the Semi Final.

Meanwhile, Steele will be out for ten days or so with a strained neck. That's the second time now that a player we rest gets injured in training!

Easy win there. Serrano looks a good prospect but not too convinced about O'Neill. He didn't exactly shine against Wigan either.

Big blow to lose Steele, how many games will he miss?

I feel it's time for Mahrez to add some goals to his game.

    Just one probably.
