Will follow this one right away! Good luck, nice restrictions.
Think this story has been done before but not finished by a couple of members soseeing it again!
This is my first ever CM story (barring a “pass the parcel” chapter) after all of these years on the site so I’m very much dipping my toe in the water here![]()
I like the way Samsami runs his stories of a daily update so I will be looking to do that and in not too much detail so hopefully people feel they can follow easily! (first couple of posts will be bigger)
Setup:
ODB - Start Year 2001
Tapani Patch 2.21
Saturn 1.4 Competition Renaming Patch
ODB £ currency
It’s the year 2001 and Swansea City have been through the mill from 1st Division high’s in the 1980’s to where we are today in this story
It’s 2001 and the club has been thrown into the doldrums and sold for £1! The buyer Is saddled with debt and agrees to sell the club to a number of local fans/businessmen for £100k
The club appoint a relative unknown in Redknapp69. A local boy given his chance in the “big time”. But the way the Swans are going he’ll have his work cut out to even keep them in the Top 4 English Division!
There wasn’t really a “press conference”. Due to a lack of interest in the club the only reporter present was from the local "rag"……………..
Reporter: So – Mr 69, what’s the origin of the surname then?!
Me: Let’s cut the chase. I’ve got a huge job to do here. Just call me “Redders” and we’ll be done with it
Reporter: Ok Redders. Why do you think you’re the man for the job and what do you expect to bring to this club
Me: No idea. You’ll have to ask the new owners! I plan to bring stability to the club which is well needed and to get the City engaged with the Club again
Reporter: How do you plan to do that?
Me: Christ – It’s day 1 and I’m 5 mins into the job! But firstly, I want to give local boys the opportunity so in every matchday squad I’ll have at least 3 Welsh players. This is something the fans want to see – “one of their own” in the team!
Reporter: Any idea on your style of play?
Me: Attacking. We’re not messing about here with the whole “parking a bus”. Goals win games! Formation wise – not sure yet as I’ve not seen the squad on the training pitch yet! I’m not doing any of this wib-wobbing shite that these "moden” managers are doing though. Tried and tested for me!
Reporter: Any backroom staff changes?
Me: Fecking ‘ell. Give me chance. I’ve not met the people that’s on the books so far so I’ll have a gander once I get out of this chuffing interview
Reporter: Indeed. Sorry Redders – We’ll leave you get on with things then! You do indeed have a mountain to climb but be assured that with the fans now owning the club and as I’m the only person interested in your appointment from a media side, we’ll all be behind you in hoping you can make this a success
And with that, I head into my office to check out how the squad and backroom staff looks……………….
Restrictions:
NO Wib Wob
3 Welsh players In EVERY matchday squad. If I cannot have 3 Welsh players I will lose 3 players from my bench/team
Will aim to bring in any Swansea players who played for the club from 2001 onwards – shortlist of those in next post. (But I am free to sign anyone)
No signing known CM 0102 "wonderkids"

Will follow this one right away! Good luck, nice restrictions.
Finances
• 285k Balance
• 100k Transfer Kitty
Stadium and Facilities
• 10k Stadium – ah the old Vetch Field![]()
• “Good” facilities
Backroom Staff
• Ass Man: Alan Curtis – Club LEGEND. He will stay and NEVER leave the club
• Coach – Only 1 of them – feck me! Offers are in for 3. 1 with good Coahcing Outfield, 1 with good GK coaching and then 1 all rounder – Gary Mabbutt the ex-Spurs player! If these 3 accept, I’ll prob bin the existing guy
• Scouts: 2 here with att’s around the 12 mark for scouting. Contracts offered for 3 free agents with 17 att’s. If they accept we’ll lay the other 2 off
• Physio – Contract offered to Alan Smith (don’t think it’s “Smudger” the old Arsenal player!) - £180pw and seems to be good with working with youngsters as well as obv a decent physio
Shortlist of Ex Swans Players (played between 2002-date) who are “Interested”
Couple of cheeky bids in! Very tempted to bring "Beast Mode" to Swansea and get Akinfenwa - but he looks poor att's wise but we'll track his progress in Eastern Europe!
Next is to look at existing squad and who can cut the mustard and who will not be in my plans. Also – will arrange a couple of pre-season friendlies

Bloody hell. Daily updates after just having a baby!!
Either you are not pulling your weight or the missus has got you on night feed duty!
Good luck. Neville Southall's regen for the win!
Like the idea of ex-Swans players! But you won't be a purist, right?
No - I can sign whoever I want but will certainly try and get in the ex Swans players
Ash Williams looks horrific but I'll play him every game if I get him and see if I can improve him
No cash to really spend either so on the lookout for cheap deals.
Have only got 1 GK as well so needs one loan cover or a freebie keeper as backup to the man mountain that is Freestone
Will do a quick squad write up today as was trying to pick an XI from this shower of . . . . .
I did something similar on ODB recently with Stoke and signing ex-Stokies. 'Twas good fun but ultimately, it was just full of ageing pros in the end
Good luck with this one, will be following
Also didn't know/forgot that Goodfellow played for Swansea!
The World of Football Management - Chapter 7 - Global Attraction
A tough challenge, turning Leamington Football Club from the smallest club in the English game to a worldwide name, all by building a squad of just one player from any nation!
Goodfellow was class on the ODB for the lower leagues, you've got to sign him mate!
Squad Review
GK – NEED Backups!
• Roger Freestone. 32 but will do very nicely at this level. Should have a few more years left
• NOBODY else – desperately need a loan GK or a cheapie!
Spoiler!
DEF – Look OK on the whole
• DR – Terry Evans is the only “specialist” but VERY average. Will have to make do. Kristian O’Leary could do a job there or DC or DM and he looks pretty good to be fair
• DL – David Smith at 33 is below average and not getting any better. Will sell when I can. Michael Howard will be first choice who at least as very good positioning
• DC – Jason Smith has cracking Marking and Tackling. He’ll play for sure and likely alongside David Theobald who is ok at everyting and young so hoping he can only get better. 20 year old Andrew Mumford should also develop well. This is actually a position we are well stacked in thank feck! Neil Sharpe not bad and another young ‘un as well. De Vuglt is young but maybe looks a better options as a backup DM
Spoiler!
MID – BIG changes needed here
• DM - Vuglt and O’Leary can do a job at DC if required. Gareth Phillips is young and OK but Lacey looks a BEAST of a DM in my eyes!
• MC – Lee Jenkins looks to possess the most quality. Reid and especially Murphy look gash and will be gone if/when I can get replacements. Jackson looks 2nd best which is saying something. This area of the field looks horrific and we’ll have to play DM in CM so this is my first area of strengthening needed!
• ML or MR – no real options at all but maybe not a bad thing as I’m thinking of doing 4-1-3-2 default with 3 CM
Spoiler!
STR – It’ll do for now
• John Williams – 33 and looks rubbish. Last in line and will be sold as soon as I can list him
• Jon Keaveney – 20 and has 14 for finishing – Will be backup and may improve
• Steve Watkin – Workhorse and should be ok at this level – will likely start with him if I play 2 up top as he’ll be able to handle the rough tackles of League 2 (4th Division)
• James Thomas – 22 and potential. IRL he wasted it IIRC but had a really bad injury which cut his career short. Forever remembered for keeping Swans in the Football League in 2003 with this goal -

Just added another restriction that I will not sign any known CM ODB "wonderkids"

Transfer Targets
Absolute pile of gash available now on a free/listed or on loan so I’ll give it some time and not buy any crap in the meantime.
I’ll give a decent chance to what we have and see how we get on. Hopefully more quality will become available as the season starts.
David Smith is my highest earner on 2k per week. Not really in my plans – he can get to shit and be transfer listed
Also – have 2 young dregs that won’t make it with me also up for transfer – won’t bring much cash in but at least if I can shift them it will cut the wages
Spoiler!
Transfer IN’s
Ashley Williams - £3k. Plan to give him as much game time as I can from the bench to start with
Trevor Wood – FREE. Decent enough backup GK
Alan Tate – FREE. This guy is down in Swansea folklore
Plenty of arrivals in backroom as well
Spoiler!
Transfers OUT
Some backroom staff leave with my best wishes
EFL Cup Draw made............
We play Bury. 21st Sptember. Away but same division as us. Cup run would be nice!
New Contract
James Thomas signs new 3 year deal until 2004
Next update will be the results of 2 pre-season friendlies and any more hagglinggggggggggggggg news![]()

Swansea really did have some dross to begin with on the ODB
Freestone, O'Leary and Thomas looking like your best players. Theobald was decent in some version of CM (00/01?) when he was at Brentford, could be OK too.
Could sign some GK on loan that was once at Swansea?
Should have done ex-Swansea names in the backroom staff too![]()

Good call on backroom staff - not sure what site could easy provide that though!
Yeah - those 3 are decent players and will firm the spine with Lacey and Jenkins
Happy with 2 GK now but could be prudent to get a free loaner in just in case of injury
Take a look here Redders for the backroom staff history.. It's selectable by role.
Yeah definitely as a striker.
Swans unbeaten in Pre-Season Friendlies!
Arranged a couple of away games v Bournemouth and Bristol Rovers who are both in our division
Bournemouth first up and I play my anticipated “First Team XI”
A very pleasing performance in a game we had the better of.
A fine team performance and as I pinpointed it seems like we have a talented playmaker in Lee Jenkins
Spoiler!
Next up was those Tractor Wurzel Boys Bristol Roverssssssss. We played the rest of the squad in this game
A real tight game but great to see the fighting spirit to come back from 2-0 down to level the game
Solid enough from the more attacking players
Spoiler!
Super Swans crush the “Cherries” putting 4 past them in season opener!
First game of the season and away to Bournemouth. We take the confidence of the recent pre-season game. First choice RB Terry Evans is out for another 10 days so he is replaced by Alan Tate. Andrew Mumford comes into the side as DC.
Here is how the team line up! (For home games the full back and at least 2 of the central midfielders will have forward arrows). All other instructions the same)
An excellent 1st half where we completely dominated and went up 2 goals to the good. We didn’t even leave the opponents have ANY shots against us!![]()
James Thomas slotted one in nicely after being set up by Jackson. 5 minutes later after a mazy run, that man again lee Jenkins blasted one in the top corner from 20 yards!
2nd half and a stroke of luck for us when Bournemouth went down to 10 men when Tindall stuck the nut on Jackson the dirty fecker!
Seeing as though the game was best part of won I decided to take off Jenkins and Thomas who look key men and Mumford who had a niggle.
Thomas set up Jenkins for a volley for the 3rd and the icing on the cake for a 4th goal when O’Leary with a relatively long ball found Thomas who also scored with a volley!
What a simply stunning win!
Amazing performance from everyone involved!
Spoiler!
After the game I attended the post-match interview with the Bournemouth Herald leading the questioning
Reporter – Congratulations on a commanding performance on your 1st high profile managerial game
Me: High Profile? None of you could be fooked to turn up when I was announced as manager and now you’re all over me for some quotes!
Reporter - That’s because we live here and are the local press
Me: Ah ok – fair point! Next question!
Reporter: Fancy answering the original question?!
Me: Oh ayeYes – I’m delighted with how the lads performed today. But we wont be doing cartwheels as this is the benchmark for the rest of the season
Reporter: What are your thoughts on the opposition?
Me: Sorry ain’t got time to tak about a team we just pumped 4 zip – we’ve now got a chuffing 4 hour+ bus drive back to Sunny Swansea – Nos Da!
Spoiler!
Following this news 33 year old striker John Williams is placed on the transfer list

Good start to the season!
Grazioli, a favourite of mine from the early series of CM! Think he was at Barnet and Rushden & Diamonds!
Goodfellow joins, not much to look at in terms of stats but hopefully has potential.

So what's the difference between your home formations and your away formation, I wonder?
